Until I came across Pets in the City, a lovely little shop at the end of a row of shops on this little known road in North Kensington. My heart sank when the owner mentioned that someone had just been in to buy her entire stock of cat treats (how inconsiderate!), but luckily didn't also clear her out of cat beds. And there it was, amongst the usual subjects in granny colours a beautiful fluffy bed made from a shaggy purple and white (not beige!) fabric. Simple and effective, my cat loved it from day one. And what's better it looks like a scatter cushion and not out of place in a modern Notting Hill flat. A winner!

It's a reasonably large cattery (space for 20+ kitty enclosures and each one can be shared by 2-3 cats if you have cats which don't mind sharing). The spaces for the cats are larger than at a few other catteries I've seen. It's always clean and the cats are obviously well-cared for; walking up the main aisle with Lesley and Ray, they will talk to you about their latest arrivals whilst also pausing to talk to the cats as well. They offer a range of foods (different kinds of wet, dry and occasionally even real chicken!) and there are toys in most of the enclosures already in case you forget to bring your own. The enclosures are divided into a private and public area for each cat, where your cat can either sneak away and be unseen, or look at the goings-on in the cattery. There are heated pads for your cat in winter, so they won't get cold. The owners are responsive over email and the phone, and as it's their full time job, the opening hours are long, which is great. The last time I boarded our cat there, if you pick your cat up between 9 and 10am in the morning, you don't have to pay for another full day, which is often a blessing if you come home late one night from a holiday. Although catcare is generally quite pricey, their rates are good. There is also a collection service, which I think is within a 3-mile radius. I've never used it, so there may be a charge, but it's nice to know that if your car breaks down, or your cat has just got too fat to be carried, you can still get it there. Above all, it's a really superb cattery from the second you walk in, you feel like your cat will be in really safe, good hands. Could not ask for better.

They offer a pick-up and drop-off service which helps massively. My biggest complaint is that my cat came home smelling like a cigarette. I doubt that it was just a matter of the driver smoking in the car when she was being delivered because the smell is really in her fur. She's been home for nearly 12 hours and it still smells terribly. I never thought to ask whether the cattery was non-smoking! Of course, it's possible that my cat picked up a smoking habit while I was away, but I doubt it. However, the smell of smoke is very distinct and there is no way it was due to a faulty grooming product. The driver who dropped my cat off also smelled strongly of smoke, so it could have just been from the drive back, but it's hard to believe that a short car ride could cause the smell to be that deep into her fur that it lasted for three days. I think it's important to review the business as I experienced it.

Both my cats are patients at Kitten to Cat and my Burmese loves visiting due to all the attention that the staff lavish on her. You can tell that all the vets are cat-lovers and that makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable. My Maine Coon has stayed in the cattery on a few occasions and for a cat that can't abide being brushed, she always comes back looking extremely well groomed with her nails perfectly trimmed. Little touches, like the Christmas cards, health club and handmade reminders to book your cats in for a booster make this vets a touch above all the rest and after using them I could never ever go back to all animals vet!

I'm sure that because they are cat only, it makes a visit to a vet less stressful as your cat wouldn't see or sense dogs around. They diagnosed my cat Bolli of a urinary problem very quickly and gave him great follow up care after his operation. Fantastic little touches like Xmas cards, texting of reminders of worming visits and brilliant free talks on animal behaviour & dealing with senior cat, in the hall across the road, also make Kitten to Cat worth registering with. The vets & nurses are all cat owners too and have a very calming influence on the cats. I can't say that Bolli loves going there, but once he's out of his carrier, he wanders around the consultation room quite happily, so I wonder what all the fuss is about. I'm sure if he could speak he'd also give Kitten to Cat a great rating!

They also have a dog-walking service, cat stroking etc. We used Pals4pets recently and are very happy with the care and comfort a private carer gave our dog, who has recently undergone major knee-surgery. We went to visit the carer before going away so our dog could familiarise himself with the house and carer and so that we could talk about his habits etc. When signing up with the company you fill out a form with all a carer need to know about the dog, its health and diet. Pals4pets will consider your needs and try to pair you with a carer, who suits these the best. In our case a person who had looked after several post-surgery cases was chosen. We felt very comfortable throughout the process and had a nice time away without worrying about our dog. I would recommend this service to anyone and definitely use them again

We have used Pals 4 Pets numerous times, both for our cat to do a home-stay, as well as for her to be fed at home. The people that she has been matched up with have been consistently excellent and it is clear they really love what they do. Furthermore, they have shown real affection for our cat and it is likely that the cat gets far more attention staying with her very kind P4P hosts than she usually gets. She now has a number of dedicated fans across London, all of whom seem very happy to see her return when we are off on holiday! It has taken so much of the stress out of holiday planning and we recently contacted Pals 4 Pets when we were having construction done on our home at short notice and they continue to deliver. If anything I like the veterinarians taking their time to look at each animal ensuring they haven't missed anything. This time I was late by 5 minutes to my scheduled appointment. They refused to see my cat, and told me they are rescheduling me on Monday (today is Thursday). I am appalled that they have rejected to see my cat, I am worried for him and it is their job to see if anything is wrong. I would understand if I was late by 20 minutes plus. This just shows me, this place is a business and the veterinarians don't really care for animals but actually care about income. I'm not sure whether my cat will be ok or not but if he does get better it's no help from them. Would leave 0 starts if possible

Some were super expensive and didn't provide after care and other clinics were just too far. Finally I found St Helens. I phoned them up and they were super polite, helpful and answered all my questions. The night before her operation they called me to see how the cat was and to remind me not to feed her that night . The price of the operation was around £200 but the service was incredible. I dropped off the cat at 9 am, she had her jabs done, deworming, her operation and they kept her there until she was fully awake and they were absolutely sure that there is no problem to send her home. They gave me special food -like special post operation food- pain killers, meds, protection collar, next day free check-up and another free checkup after 2 weeks. The place is very welcoming and big, big windows- loads of natural light, there is a small waiting area, a little shop area as well and just incredible people working there. Very professional.
