Terrible online orientation. This school presents itself as a good choice for online students, but what they don't tell you is that you have to show up in person before you can register for classes AND before you can collect your financial aid. The in-person requirements make sense, but they must include that information during the online orientation. I had to drive three hours to this school, last minute, for identity verification. After I got back home, I discovered I had to drive all the way back to hand in my documents at the financial aid office. Communication with Counseling and Admission and Records is a slow process. There are too many issues to cover, but I'm left with a sense that this school has run out money to pay their staff. It's a nice looking school, but I suspect they may be going through some serious budgeting issues, because they seem to struggle to keep business moving. read more

I have stopped here twice. One was to look a night view. Because this school is loacated at a top of the hill, it has a great vista. Also nict to pass this place when biking Canada road Sunday (no cars!) The second one was to go to a live concert of Redwood Symphony. The main theater is a good venue. read more

There is no fitness center. BUT it is in the making. Tons of construction happening! Public transportation available w/ the local city bus I love the view here. It is so scenic and you can see so much of the Bay Area. It's beautiful. Sometimes you can spot deer as well around the campus. Many resources... Stem center, library, book store, counseling, a ceffeteria. All of the employees are so friendly and helpful. Many programs and 2 year degrees to chase, or if you are just looking to go the cheaper route before transferring to a 4 year college, this is a great place to start. No matter where you go to school, you get some good and some bad professors although I have yet to encouner a professor I dislike. Only thing I really wish for, is that they update the inside of the classrooms. The classrooms themselves are very out of date, a bit dirty and insanely crowded with old desks. Sometimes you can't even walk through the classroom because of how jam packed it is with desks. read more

Great school if you are a local attendee but if distance education is your path I would avoid them. They are unresponsive to issues via phone and email, even those of the simplest of resolutions. As a senior, I attended this school taking my last lower division class before graduation. I paid for the class at registration, took the class and passed with an A, only to have a hold put on my transcript as if I hadn't paid. I called and was transferred to three departments and my emails were never responded to. They basically held my last grade hostage forcing me to pay twice even though I emailed proof of payment. I believe that had I been there in person this issue would have been quickly resolved, however, as a distance education learner I was ignored. Again, great school for local attendees only. read more

Commuter college galore. A good place to take your classes and move on to a four year university. Some of the professors I had were quite good. If you're a good student, as I was, you can actually learn a lot from them as it seemed most of the students didn't care. Almost no social life here. This is the most gorgeous community college campus I've ever seen! I make the drive out from SF twice a week for my night class. 40 minute drive but I don't mind at all because 1) there's never traffic on 280S and 2) the drive is scenic. The 360 views from campus are amazing as it sits right in the hills of Redwood City. All of their facilities are pretty new and the school offers awesome resources for students looking to transfer into a 4-year college or grad school. I took Anatomy (BIOL 250) here with Jett Chinn and let me just say he is one of the most outstanding instructors I've ever had. The class itself was extremely difficult and requires a lot of dedication and time but Jett knows anatomy like the back of his hand and by the end of the semester, you'll know it like the back of your hand too because that's just how great of a teacher he is. I attended UC Davis for 4 years and I took some pretty amazing science classes there but I've taken more away from this class than any other that I've taken. I have friends who took Anatomy at Skyline and got As just by showing up to class. If you wanna be lazy, go to Skyline. But if you need to take anatomy, it's most likely because you want to go into a health profession..in which you will need to KNOW YOUR STUFF. This is by far one of the nicest community college campuses I've seen in a while, especially compared to the two other campuses in San Mateo County. Reminds me alot of UCI's Social Sciences/Social Ecology side of campus. I was particularly impressed by the number of Macbooks this school has for Anatomy and Physiology students. With much smaller and more personal classes, I'd recommend Canada to anyone post high school looking for an AA/AS or looking to transfer into the UC system. This is not a actually a review for the school itself... sorry! However, I had to comment that the views at night from the hill-side parking lots are GORGEOUS. You look out over tons of beautiful lights and see a great view of much of the Bay Area. You can just drive right up to an incredible view or get out of your car if it's not too cold out... I wouldn't recommend looking into other cars to see what people are doing overlooking that view though... sketchy! read more

I'm a full time college student at a 4-year, but I got started here, first as a Middle College student and then as a full-time 2yr college student. My professors were all, with few exceptions, MUCH better than my 4yr professors. They actually care, which is surprising as I paid $2,000 for a full semester here, and $30,000 for a full semester at my current school. S/o to Bob Lee of the Sociology Department! I love my school! Most of the teacher's I have had have been fantastic. There are alot of services there. Sometimes you have to get past the receptionists in Financial Assitance to get any real help however. The stairs suck, but I am totally used to them now. If you need to take a breather from class there is no better scenery than looking onto the mountain range or over Redwood City from the parking lots. It's really breathtaking. read more

My alma mater. Ok, not really. Just a pit stop here after graduating high school last century (yeah, you read that right). Let's just say that I didn't complete a semester. Haha! Fast forward - in my 8+ years playing for BAMBSL (look it up!), we've had the privilege of playing on the same diamond as one, Barry Bonds. Yes, Mr. Bonds spent some time here before transferring to Arizona State and well....we all know what a beast of a player he became. Just for the record, I'll always be a fan of his no matter what is said about him. Screw the haters. Back to the school - I would say that this is our "home field" as we tend to play a lot of our games here. Gone is the traditional grass and dirt. The field now boasts the lastest in artificial grass technology which I have to say is one of the more beautiful baseball diamonds I've played on. Kudos to the folks revamped the field and many thanks to the school for letting us borrow their field on Sundays. read more

The couselor sucks. I dont remember her name but because she couldnt remember how to do her job. I cant register a class because she forgot to override one of my placement tests. It was just a waste of time going to that orientation and meeting with a counselor that day. ....... UPDATE: i did speak with Kathy, a friendly couselor there and she was very helpful in assisting me get this problem solved and also getting back to me very quickly. I'm currently attending Canada and this is my first semester. I was really excited to be somewhere new and to meet new people. But, it's hard getting to know other people and make new friends when most of the people attend with their friends from highschool and a lot of people are so busy with their lives outside school. Also, I'm not even sure if my english teacher (Griffin) is actually certified. Her lesson plans consist of mainly sitting in front of a computer typing nonsense that she never grades. And it seems her mind wonders while she's trying to have a class discussion. I can't wait to transfer to SFSU though. Canada is great, but it definitely has a high school feel to it. AND IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE SMOKES. But I would like to know where the parties are though. read more

I go to a university but I have taken several classes here at this community college and I have to say, I love this cc way more than I like the university I go to.. WHY? Very very clean environment, classrooms, bathroom Quite easy to get the classes you need. Beautiful view because it's on a hill though it does get quite hot in the summer time but don't worry, those new classrooms with that updated air conditioning systems will make you want to wear a parka and a thermal to school in July just to wear in the classrooms. Fashion Design Department Canada College has an amazing selection of classes for people interested in sewing and design. Canada offers everything from introductory clothing construction to draping, tailoring, historical costume, millinery and pattern drafting. Teachers are friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and extremely enthusiastic. Ronda Chaney, the head of the department is a jewel. She has a complete knowledge of sewing and design and loves to teach!! The college is equipped with wonderful sewing machines, cutting tables, and other equipment allowing students to complete their work in a user friendly studio environment. Canada offers day, night and weekend classes. I have been taking classes in this department for 3 semesters and I have thoroughly enjoyed all my classes and the people I have met in class range in age from 18 to 72!! I can't say enough good things about Canada. Really. I started there at 16, in "middle college" high school, and continued until I transferred. At my current school, which required the 60 units to transfer into, I feel SO much more prepared for the tough classes and challenging reading than many of my peers do. The availability of counseling and awesome professors is almost unheard of, and I'm very fortunate to have taken my prereq's there. Oh, and fyi...I HIGHLY recommend Lezlee Ware (PoliSci), Anthony Perez (Communications/Humanities), Paul Stegner (Psychology), and Linda Breen (Dance/Phys Ed). It is hard not to feel intellectually superior to more then half of the students who attend this school. Most of the students seem as if they could give a crap about education, and goof off in class (remind you of high school at all???), whereas there are a good handful of students who are committed and want to learn. The class sizes are really great, and very beneficial. All of my teachers know me by my first and last name, and most remember me from previous classes. They are also very good at offering information and help all over the campus, you can do a drop in appointment and they will tell you everything you need to do, and help you deicide on a major. But if you are coming here looking for an avid social life, I say, look elsewhere. The only reason I am going here is because it's close to home and a hell of a lot cheaper for the same education you'd get at 10 times the price or higher. read more

Out of all the three community colleges within the San Mateo area, I love Canada the best. I think the professors here are much better than College of San Mateo. Plus the atmosphere and the scenery is gorgeous. However, College of San Mateo is stepping up with their remodeling... Anyways, the reason why I love Canada much more than College of San Mateo is for their satellite RN nursing program. In 22 months, (granted you already took your pre-reqs) you can become a Registered Nurse with a B.S.N. through San Francisco State University all while taking all your classes at Canada College. I simply love this program and have to saw that it was well worth the time and effort. Plus, you get bonus points to help you towards you application for taking classes at either Canada College, Skyline College, or College or San Mateo. Also, through San Francisco State University, I know they have a CAD (child and adolescent development) program to get your B.A. as well. I believe there is also another bachelor degree program from a different state school as well. Classes here seem to feel more personal than on the CSU campuses. read more

I've attended this college for over two years now. I came to this school because its the only community college that offers animation classes in my area, and they are really putting in an effort! All classes are being updated right now. 3D animation is using the industry standard Maya program. The 2D animation department has finally moved on from Flash and are currently using Toon Boom Harmony, and Painter to Photoshop. Some classrooms received flatscreen tvs as replacement for the old and flaky projectors, so now our viewing experience has increased tenfold. If a degree is too much for you, they offer certificates for the curriculum. We can skip general education and still get paperwork stating we completed a good chunk of classes. They have many certificates for different things, and they are currently under the process of implementing a new certificate for Video game development! Classes for this certificate will appear throughout the rest of this year as online courses only for the time being. When the process has moved along, hopefully some of these classes will be taught live. The campus is beautiful, or at least, it will be. The gym is currently gone, they are building a new one that looks like its going to have a pool. There's also a new building that will probably be used for science classes, but is still under maintenance. You can still access the library, but the building is all wrapped up, they have a lot of fixing to do. So unfortunately there is a lot of construction going on right now. The bus stop has been temporarily moved, there are construction workers everywhere and there was a bit of noise for a while. Its all in the name of making the campus better. I believe people are using the theater as a temporary 'gym' for now. This college can be very quiet and peaceful, if not deserted by the time the clock strikes 3 PM. The only place you'd find other students is the Grove, the Library, or another class with in-class working hours. I hope to come back to this college many years in the future to see how all the construction turned out! Aside from that, this place is very remote. You have a lovely view of the mountains, the Campus is up on a hill so towards the East you get a view of the City which is just amazing as it lights up at night. Do be careful, there can be a lot of animals that run around the campus. Deer especially. If you take the back road to the college, be careful on Cañada Road. I've witnessed foxes, bikers, deer, hawks, and quail scamper all over that road. I think its safer to take the Freeway home at night. There are vending machines everywhere, but those are just snacks. The only places to get food/drinks is the Starbucks Cafe and The Grove cafeteria. The Grove has 2 star food. Really poor quality. The food is sometimes undercooked or cold and my friend straight up found a tiny pebble in her sandwich. A lot of people have wanted them to fix the food quality there for a while. Its still nice to have a food source on campus with cheap food, but good lord people... I can cook better than the food offered at the Grove! Gradeschool lunches offer more quality than this College does. I hope this gets fixed sometime. Information is not always available easily. I rarely hear about clubs and where to find them. I didn't understand the student service center until recently. First time I attended this college, I only had night classes. The tents they set up for student helpers that morning were completely empty, so I had no one to ask for help. Some of the campus buildings are confusing, a lot of people have difficulty finding their buildings let alone classrooms. Beware the theater building, its incredibly easy to get lost in there! The police patrol the grounds nearly 24/7. I haven't heard of any crimes or thefts happening around so I feel as though the campus is generally safe. The closest town area is probably a 10 minute drive after all. If anyone is in need of gas, there should be a station in that town to fill up luckily. Teachers are either super fun, super eccentric, or super boring. That's a given for any college really. Some classes you may feel should simply just be online classes. But there were quite a few that I had fun with. I've made a lot of friends here, and we have a LOT of talented students. This campus is the only community college to participate in the Campus Movie Fest event which I believe happens almost every year. Students have a week to film / animate a 5 minute film about anything, and get a chance to win a spot in the Cannes Film Festival in France. Some of the students the past two years have made it in! The college has never been so proud to see how far their students have come! So this college has been improving itself physically and mentally. Buildings and classes are under construction, but that just means its going to be better than before! I've picked the right place, I love it here! read more

Canada is offering a great new program for working adults that they call, College for Working Adults. Through the CWA program you can earn up to 3 A.A. degrees in either Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Arts and Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences, or Psychology in 3 years, while working full time. All 60 units earned are fully transferable to public and private colleges and universities. They except students in 3 cohorts with Fall 2012 being the beginning of the next cohort. Benefits: -You receive priority enrollment to all predetermined classes set by Canada -Meet on the same days for the next 3 years -Classes are just twice a week or 3 times a week depending on if you meet the eligibility requirements: ( English 100 and Math 110) -Designated CWA counselor In a nutshell, you earn the first 2 years of a bachelor degree at Canada while only paying community college fees, which at the moment is at the outrageous amount of $46 per unit. Any dealing I have had with the bookstore, financial office, counseling and or administrative desk has been wonderful. i can only give a review of the fashion department, as i've been taking classes here for about 3 years now. the fashion teachers are awesome, know exactly what they are talking about, have a great in-depth knowledge of clothing construction, are really nice and are very dedicated. i have learned so much here, it's crazy. i like canada college because i like redwood city. i like the weather. and yeah, it is pretty much in the middle of nowhere (if i need food, i need to drive about 8 mintues to go to whole foods) but i sure pay a whole lot less at this place for reeeeally good education as opposed to some other expensive school where the teacher basically doesn't give a crap about you. read more

I love this school and the environment. The positive vibes with friendly people and the useful resources that this campus has is amazing. I love how this campus is not that big, and how there's a lot of involvement with the community. I've been going to this school for a year and a half and love it here! The vibes sitting outside is energetic while being able to do homework. The professors are really helpful (some more than others). I've taken a lot of science labs here and they are very engaging. They have cadavers and really good bones to study off of. The only downside would be finding parking during those 8:10AM-11AM classes because the parking lot does get full. Many opportunities of growth here. Recommended for those with or without a goal, those wanting to gain any certificates or degrees, and for those who want to enroll in medical programs. I especially love this school because it offers a nursing program connected to the one in SF state, so it's more of a convenient drive. Love this school! read more

I have seen the progress of education in San Mateo County and the Peninsula in general, Canada College located at 4200 Farm Hill Boulevard in Redwood City, California is the best place to continue your education after high school, to obtain an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Sciences, or Certificate, or maybe just to transfer to a four-year college and/or university. Canada College has many wonderful aspects and resources on its beautiful campus including outstanding professors/instructors who not only teach you their subject matter but give you the tips, advice, and help so you can succeed at the next level. Also the Counselors are wonderful as well helping you select the right courses and guiding you to help and service(s) when needed. The Library and the Learning Center are also one of the best facilities I have ever seen and utilized in public college education. Canada College does a great job serving the community in regards to helping people move on with their educational goals, career goals, as well as helping high school students try a different approach to education instead of the same basic high school classes and education system with "The Middle College" that is different in general for high school students. I also notice that Canada College has class locations all over San Mateo County and beyond they do serve the community with no hesitation. I highly recommend Canada College to anyone and everyone that would like to advance in their education, help in career advancement or would just like to take a course for the fun it. It's time to rate the one thing that's given me the most headaches this year. Canada College. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, there is absolutely nothing on this campus to make life even remotely enjoyable. There is no escaping the reality of being in a cheap community college here. The library is almost non-existent. The only food on campus is a small, and I mean small, cafeteria with an even smaller selection of food. There are a couple of vending machines; but, I'm not going to pay $1.50 for bottle water and $2.00 for a bag or four cookies. And then there is the constant driving thump thump thump of the construction on campus. Atleast they're building something new. The rest of the buildings look like they've been untouched since the 60s. About the only decent thing here is the tuition. It's still cheap. And, I'm sure that's why the campus is so sparse. read more

I've been pleasantly surprised with my class at Canada College. The teacher is entertaining, and clearly enjoys his work. The view from campus on a clear day is breathtaking--though I'm a little puzzled by the animal-shaped topiaries that populate the campus. Classrooms are kinda dim and depressing, and I probably wouldn't want to go here full-time, but I like taking a night class a lot more than I thought I would. read more
