The Dance Loft - Aurora thought I would share our TERRIBLE…read moreexperience with this company. Our child attend for classes on Saturdays at a recreational level. The owners demanded that parents spend around $150 in makeup using their link to a company for the end of year recital. My wife enquired of the necessity to buy this specific brand and the high costs just for a one time performance for a 5 year old. The 20 year old co-owner basically told her that if she didn't like their policies, that she could find another dance studio. We can appreciate the need for the kids to look the same for a performance. My wife questioned the high costs and the specific brand only, as she was willing to colour match and use a product she was comfortable with for our child. Nevertheless, the rude and discourteous co-owner was swiftly put in her place for the way she speaks to clients/adults. Shortly after, the business sent out an email allowing parents to colour match the makeup for the recreational performance of the small children It goes without saying, we do not recommend this dance studio with their immature owners and poor customer service. I hope this was a one off experience and no one else has to deal with this.

To provide a fair review, I attempted to interview the girls and get their feedback. Ummm, I didn't get far with them because they were quickly distracted by a squirrel pooping on our porch. With that, I would have to go with my opinion as a parent. We love it. Lorrie, the owner and teacher, is organized, methodical and fun. She's appropriately strict and the kids learn confidence and discipline (but not like the kind you learn in a Shaolin KungFu temple). The highlight is the annual dance recital that's held in a large theater. I was pleasantly surprised by the high production level, especially since the performers are mostly still wearing diapers. The dance studio is in the Junction and it's quite clean and comfortable. The classroom is large and appropriately padded. The waiting room for the parents has comfy chairs but could use some more current magazines. There's a change room and two washrooms. The bonus is there are a ton of things to do around the studio while your kid is in class. You can shop for organic food at The Sweet Potato, grab the best cup of coffee at Crema or indulge with a yummy Bronto Burger. We love it.

She has taken creative movers, tap, jazz, modern and musical theatre - but her favorites are definitely modern and jazz. She loves that each instructor she has had has given her plenty of opportunity to shine and she always leaves class energized. Creative Children's Dance Centre has not only enhanced her love of dance, but given her the opportunity to explore movement and gain confidence she carries beyond the studio. There are a good mix of boys and girls attending and the performances are truly spectacular to watch. Obviously I'm biased to love my daughters performances the most, the the tap and hip hop always get the audience excited and the ballet goes from adorable (the tiny performers) to inspiring as the more experienced intensive training or pre professional dancers grace the stage. As the previous reviewer said, the studio is clean and comfortable. The location is ideally situated among many distractions for parents (coffee shops, gyms, shopping) as well. The instructors are all lovely and the owner, Laurie is one of my daughters personal favorites.

They will even dance with you at the socials to ensure that you're doing the moves correctly and, most importantly, having fun. I would have continued the classes except there are more females than males so the school asks level 2 and above males to come in and volunteer. Dancing with some of them that were only at level 2 was more of a hindrance because they barely knew the steps themselves. Also, some of the male participants really needed to practice personal hygiene. My biggest turnoff, however, was Roger (an instructor in training). He would get really impatient and even kind of rough with us. I basically refused to dance with him during the classes. He should NOT be teaching anything with his attitude - can't stand that guy. I was going to give it three stars but then I thought of how great Mark, Natalie and Natalie's husband were.

They usually hold…read moretheir classes at a Royal Canadian Legion, so while they don't necessarily have their own studio/facility, the Legion rooms are quite big and have different floors so they can accommodate multiple classes at the same time. Their specialties appear to be in the Latin styles (hence the name), which includes salsa, bachata and cha-cha but they also do tango and kizomba as well. I have also attended their monthly social which seemed to be around 60% salsa and 40% bachata and cover is usually $15, which includes lessons for beginner and intermediate dancers. Their socials are held at another Royal Canadian Legion which is located right next to the Long Branch GO station. The socials go on for 4-5 hours with about 15-20 minutes of performances by their students and some pro dancers. The dancers were really good. Most of the people attending the social/party were friendly and were there to dance and not too many players/flirtatious people. I find that certain places that offer "Latin" dancing are more club-like as opposed to just learning to dance and have fun. All in all, I thought the party/social was fun and members were friendly. Will probably go again and might take some classes here.
