Jose was always there, attentive, hiking in front, back, side, showing us extra ruins on side trails. It was great! For the Amazon, we switched to great naturalist and super birder Jose Antonio and hiked and birded in Manu National Park. Jose Antonio has memorized 3000 bird calls, we tested about 50. He has a crazy ability to spot birds, animals and insects all over the place. Then we went to Nazca (lines in the desert), then an oasis for dune buggy and fun sandboarding. Next day in Paracas to see the sky darken with birds. Had an absolutely great time where we saw a huge sampling of Peru. I ate tons of carbs for the high altitude (you should probably get a Diamox prescription ... and chew coca leaves (San Pedro Market in Cusco), but with the hiking and activities, I lost 4lbs.

In 2007, Machu Picchu was declared one of the Seven Wonders of the World. We travelled to all 3 regions of Peru: The Coast- Paracas and Huacachina, Andean Highlands- Cusco and The Jungle- Amazon Manu National Park. The Nazca Lines were the same ones that were portrayed in the Indiana Jones movie (Crystal Skull). Huacachina Oasis is the only desert oasis in South America.

Total number of hiccups - ZERO.  Fred and John's attention to detail was impeccable.  Their customized tour books are comprehensive and answer every question you haven't even thought of yet.  Our private tour guides in every location (Gabriel - (BA), Sandra (Mendoza), Facundo (Bariloche), and Veronica (Iguazu) were knowledgeable, entertaining, adaptive and a pleasure to be with. All ground transportation was new, spacious and well air conditioned. All hotels were top notch, especially the Grand Malìa in Iguazu, where we spent two afternoons lounging beside the infinity pool overlooking the falls sipping cocktails. It was a great way to end the trip decompressing from a week of hiking, touring, boat rides, horseback riding and wine tasting.
