It's understood that all students have teachers that they don't prefer, but there should be more emphasis on empathy between this school's community to better the performance of both mentor and scholar. The environment here is appalling and there needs to be someone to step forward and take responsibility for the direction in which this establishment is headed.

My child was around 2.5 when starting his first "school" experience here. He was part time (3 hours in the morning) and attended maybe a total of 5 or 6 school days before they told me they needed to unenroll him. The reasoning was regarding his emotional regulation. I could definitely see that he was having a hard time with emotional regulation - even at home. They also advised me to get him evaluated. I have no issues with getting my son help that he needs, but it did shock me to have such a strong response after barely knowing him and without giving him a chance to acclimate to a new environment. I asked for specific things that happened to understand what he was doing exactly that would result in him being unenrolled and the examples they gave were like "running around" and "struggling with the routine". I thought they were going to tell me he physically hurt someone or himself or that he was destructive to the classroom. I took time to reflect on their comments and spoke to his doctor. He did not have concerns and said that at 2.5 we cannot expect toddlers to have a grasp on their emotional regulation yet. Since this experience, he has now been in different schools where he is thriving. It's not due to smaller class ratios - the school he is in now has the same ratio and he is so happy to go to every day. I'm not sure what was going on at North Shore that made him so distressed. I believe if they gave him the opportunity to adjust he could have done well there too. Unfortunately, I think they only accept specific types of children that can follow very rigid routines. I chose a Montessori school because I thought the philosophy was to follow a child's lead as opposed to rigidity. I definitely acknowledge that my child was having a harder time managing his emotions (especially at that age), but parents of toddlers who are still learning how to regulate emotions and need more fluidity to just be a kid should be aware of this before enrolling. I also want to note that I find it extremely odd that you can't find reviews on this school. Google reviews are turned off, and there are only 2 posts on Facebook.

Security: I was allowed to enter the school (after ringing the bell to get in) and could have continued through the school had I wanted to. Given what has happened at Sandy Hook, I'd say this is shocking. I stopped by the office to ask where a particular classroom was so I could pick up a child I babysit (this was my first time getting her here) they did not have my name on the list for pick up so they did call the mother and check I was able to pick up the child. She had forgotten to let the school know, so she was glad they did confirm that for her. As to the children who attend here. They seem to have real homework, not just busywork and the kids enjoy their classes and teachers. The teachers also make sure that each child is accounted for as they leave, which is great to see. Each child needs to high five the teacher and point out their adult picking them up before they can go. This way no child is ever unaccounted for. They go directly from the teacher to the parent. There are also after school activities, such as Girl Scouts available right in the building, so if you are a parent who has girls who would be interested and you need a little time after work before you could get them - Girl Scouts is a great option available to you without needing to worry about a babysitter or transportation!
