Essentially, that is what Gibson's is. There home. The resort used to be an old loggers house. About 20 rooms fill the top of the house, all complete with the exactly what you need for your stay - a bed and a dresser. No bathroom you say? Correct! That's what the outdoors are for.. Just kidding. There is a bathroom, but it is located towards the end of the hall. There is a men's washroom and a women's washroom, complete with a stand up shower and sink (and toilet). If you are looking for the following: *Luxury *Air conditioned splendor *Suites or executive style beds *Continental Breakfast You will not find those here. What you will find is peace, quiet and one of the most beautiful views of Lake Michigan you have ever seen, at an affordable price. As well as the rooms, Gibson's offers several cabins to rent as well, however, if you are looking to book a cabin, you better know you need one about a year and a half in advance because that's how far out the bookings are! If you just want to enjoy the beauty of Washington Island without breaking your bank, Gibson's is the way to go. It's old fashioned, it's beat up, but it feels like home.

They also have a number of separate cabins for rental. They have cute sheep in a pasture in back and a big pond nearby that is full of frogs who sing at night. It was like a little slice of private heaven. Top-notch amenities, hardwood floors, ceramic tile, quality, cookware, and bakeware. And the coffee was exceptional and I'm a coffee snob! Le Crueset teapot. What? The owners definitely take time to detail and have pride of ownership. There were even grilling options of a Weber gas grill or a charcoal grill. The sauna and indoor whirlpool was definitely a bonus. The outdoor pool is beautifully located overlooking the bay. Management office answers calls promptly and it was nice to be able to have bikes to ride around the area. I highly recommend this resort.

The owners told us about 13 different waterfalls in the area, and Pictured Rocks coastline which is gorgeous! We had a blast fishing and hanging out at Kemosabe and will definitely go back! The cabins have full kitchens right down to spices and coffee! When we arrived, there was fresh-baked cookies waiting for us that were awesome! They offer dinner home-made and delivered to your cabin---we had lasagna and loved not having to worry about dinner one night. This was homey and so cool! You rock Kemosabe!

Lake N' Pines Lodge was the choice after hours spent looking at spots to stay near Traverse City…read more My girlfriend has a great track record picking good places, and she did not disappoint this time. We were welcomed to LNP by the couple who own the small lodge. We stayed on the second floor of the guest house, with a deck looking out onto the water. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a calming, woodsy decor, and a lot of thought put into the details. The owners had left us a couple sodas in the fridge, and lots of nice soaps and stuff in the bathroom. They invited us to canoe on the lake, but I really wanted a nap after the drive in from Chicago, and my girlfriend found the hundreds of channels on TV. We filled out a menu card, and breakfast was brought up to our room in the morning. It was a really treat, and for guests like us who would rather eat a private breakfast, the best accommodation a B&B could make. The location was super close to Traverse City and the National Park, but also set off plenty, on back roads. Interlochen reminded me of the north woods of Wisconsin, and is home to a major NPR station. The stay at Lake N' Pines Lodge really put me at ease.

Since we wouldn't be getting in until close to midnight, we pre-arranged our check-in and had a cute welcome letter and breakfast card waiting at our arrival. This was our first B&B experience and it was the little touches that will have us coming back. There were complimentary bottles of water and soda in the fridge. The kitchen had several amenities such as: pots, pans, utensils, and even spices. So if you wanted to, you could prepare all your meals on site. We were here for a wedding, so we did not utilize this feature, but worth noting. Room service was complimentary every morning and the options for breakfast were expansive and delicious. I had the blueberry pancakes the first morning and eggs, bagel, and sweet potatoes the next. Both were served with Coffee and OJ and seriously good! The room itself was the perfect size for two people, but had a hideaway bed, that could sleep two additional people. The decor was what you would expect of a northern Michigan fish town, log furniture and a touch of kitsch. Outside, we had our own mini-deck, table and chairs.There was a decent sized flatscreen in our room with over 100 channels a DVD player. We just channel surfed in between our trip excursions, but they even had a new selection of movies in the main house that could be borrowed. The location is what really cemented our appreciation for this place. It is far enough off the beaten trail that nature overtakes the sound of motorists. There is an on-sight dock with complimentary boats, kayaks, and canoes that can be taken out. It is absolutely beautiful. Here you are halfway between Benzonia and Traverse City, which we found particular ideal. My only gripe was that the bedding and towels were both musty upon arrival. I am sure that our hosts would have taken care of it right away had we said something, but we were exhausted and it wasn't worth the hassle. This aside, it was still a great and hospitable place to stay. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

This review is primarily for the smallest cottage, the Firefly, built in 1948 by the owner's father and grandfather which my husband and I have stayed twice (2011, 2012). For those of you who haven't visited Door County, it is the "thumb" that juts out from the mitten-shaped state of Wisconsin. A peninsula, it's chock-full of nostalgia and quintessential locales that are down right Norman Rockwell. The Firefly cottages are situated just outside the largest city in Door County, Sturgeon Bay, WI. The property is on a very private lot with beach-side cottages in a quaint spot just north of one of the most picturesque lighthouses on the peninsula. It faces the lake side of Lake Michigan so the water is colder than the bay side and referred to as "the quiet side" of the peninsula. While it is perfect for a quiet getaway, it is not directly within walking or biking distance of shops or restaurants, unless you're an avid cyclist. We have stayed at this property 2 years in a row now, both times around the 4th of July. As I mentioned, this property includes three different rental options, so you will have other renters with you on the property however it still remains very private. The newest and most modern construction rental option and also the largest is called the hideaway (https://sites.google.com/site/fireflycottages3/the-hideaway-cottage). It sits the furthest back from the shore behind the firefly cottage and has more modern amenities. I have not stayed in this particular unit. It sits behind the firefly so may have more obstructed views of the lake but is bigger, more modern, and has a cool fire pit in the yard. The larger of the cabins, the Viking (https://sites.google.com/site/fireflycottages3/the-viking), is a quintessential summer family getaway. There is a big, open great room that includes living room, dining room, kitchen. It's very well maintained by its loving owner. The house also includes a bedroom and a lofted sleeping area with two double-beds. There is also a full bath with tub so it's great for families at all stages and of all sizes. I would recommend trying to rent the Viking if you have more than 2 adults or more than 3 people. The smallest of the cottages, the Firefly is just perfect for a small family, romantic getaway for a couple, or individual reflection retreat. We have had the most lovely time both times we have stayed here. There is literally no (AT&T) cell phone service so be prepared to be totally unplugged. Took me a day or two to get used to this and I totally recommend doing it. Hey, you only get away once or twice a year. The emails can wait. And if you really need access, you can go into "town." The Firefly cottage is basically a one-room cottage with a little porch on the front (see my pics!). There is a little kitchen that we found to have everything we needed. There is a queen size bed in the main room, and a small, non-working fireplace makes the place feel even more quaint. The front porch has a couch that pulls out into a bed. We brought along an extra camping mattress and put it on top of the pullout mattress the year the boys came along with us and they seemed to sleep very comfortable - and they are big teenage boys! The beach: sandy and beautiful. We spent many days just sunbathing or playing bocce ball along the beach. It is stunning! The only downside we found is that every few years the ale wife (minnow) die off. This results in a beach littered with dead fish (yuck). We still had a great time and just had to do a little tidying of the beach. There's no way to tell when this death of thousands of fish will occur so there's no point in trying to worry about it when you make your plans. The locals don't give it much of a thought. If you are a dog lover, this is a perfect spot for you. Irene allows pets and our dog had a stellar time chasing seagulls and snapdragons the entire weekend. Love. The Firefly is more suited for an individual or romantic retreat for a couple than for a family of 4 but could work for a small family if the children are small. The unit was very cozy with a large master bedroom with a king size bed, a fully equipped kitchen, a nice living room, seating area and a very pleasant patio overlooking the lake and the swimming pool. There was a large bathroom with a shower and a beautiful whirlpool bath. It had all the comforts of home. The staff was very friendly. We were served a complementary breakfast brought to our door every day with our choice of menu items.
