These guys helped me get everything I needed. And they got me taking care of fast, its so easy to get a hand gun and not have it be a prolonged for a week or more. There prices are pretty high but most of there guns are new. They have a small selection of guns ammo and more, and can place orders for you if they don't have it in their store. read more

The customer service was terrible. Not only was the employee who helped me rude, he was also unfamiliar with Colt firearms. I was offering to sell a Colt Defender 1911 in spectacular condition (200-300 rounds) and he offered me 300 dollars. When he came back with the gun he asked if 300 was my number to sell and I told him no, he just walked away. I asked if that was the best he could do and he said yep as he was still walking away. read more

I'm really torn here. I love Earnie, he's always been awesome to deal with, and completely up front about everything, as well as knowledgeable as hell, but some of the newer staff don't impress me. I took my son in about two months ago to holster shop, and was promptly helped by a staff member who later became involved in a joking conversation with another customer. To punctuate his joke, he grabbed a handgun out of the display case, inadvertently flagging my son and I, and cleared it loudly before slapping it on the counter. I took my son (who is only two years old) and walked out immediately. This has been my only bad experience there, but to me, that employee is careless, and I don't want to be in the same shop as him. read more

I completed my Iowa's Permit to Carry Weapons Course here recently. The instructor/owner (Ernie Traugh) of CVO was a knowledgeable instructor and kept the 5+ hour class interesting and engaging. He had fantastic examples and teaching techniques. I didn't have a chance to look around the store that night, but when the time comes I will be hitting this place up for whatever I may need. The "staff" are always crowded around the gun cases chatting. You have to ask them to move to look at the guns eve if its quite obvious that's what you're trying to do and they're in the way. When I asked to look at one, they take it out and start playing with it and then POINTED IT AT ME. Seriously? The guns are horribly overpriced. The same few survivalist wackos are always hanging around chatting as well. read more

As a female walking into a gun store can be pretty intimidating, but I felt right at home at Cedar Valley Outfitters. A friend of mine had told me to stop in there and I'm really glad I did. They offer a bunch of different classes. I've taken their Iowa Permit to carry class, (which was awesome, Ernie the owner knows his stuff, also a local cop), two basic pistol classes one just all women and the other mixed, weapon retention, and defensive knife class. All except the permit class taught by the guy that teaches all the CR cops. They are also awesome with helping choose firearms and holsters that work best for you and your situation. Prices are very fair. Staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. Store is way bigger then it used to be across the parking lot. Well worth the trip. read more

I like these people a lot. They are knowledgeable professionals. I have gotten some good deals here. They price them as best they can and don't usually leave themselves a lot of wiggle room but I have found some real gems that I felt were underpriced. You can have a meaningful conversation with any of them and they are happy to help you learn. They also get their people certified as Glock armorers. I have had a couple issues on Glocks straightened out by them or even just explained to me so I could go fix it. Ernie and I seemed to start out a little rough many years ago but have come to know each other better since. I especially appreciate that he listens to suggestions instead of just blowing me off. After asking various class providers to come up with a Minnesota CCW, it was Cedar Valley Outfitters that called me back first with an instructor engaged and a class scheduled. I took the permit to carry class from these guys and it was absolutely fantastic. Ernie is an enthusiastic and extremely competent instructor and the class was worth every penny. A few months later I didn't bother shopping around, just went to CVO and bought my Glock 17. In the future I'll be doing more price comparisons, but I'm quite happy to say I bought my first handgun from Ernie. read more

Ernest pushes inferior Glocks down your throat and belittles all other manufacturers. He is well versed in throw away guns like Glocks. The place is super high priced. Customer service is insulting. read more
