I used their indoor range and very happy with my experience. It was a little outdated and could used some cleaning up and changed the lights to something brighter, but everything worked and left very happy. Honestly happy to find an indoor range that I don't need a membership to use. read more

As others have pointed out the owner of this business is not a very ethical person to engage business in, I purchased a shotgun from him off Gunbroker. The gun had been modified by having the barrel slightly cut off in order to alter the choke. This was not visible in the pictures he provided, in addition it was advertised as having a 3 day inspection period which he will not honor. I don't know how this guy stays in business. Honestly, I really don't. The owner is not very nice to customers, at all. I'd rather go shoot outside in the dead of winter at an outdoor range, than give this guy a dime of my money for the way he treats his customers. I was in looking at rifles, and I tried to ask him a few technical questions (and I am by no means a beginner, I am fairly well versed in firearms, so I just wasn't another noob off the street that thinks a barrel shroud is 'a shoulder thing that goes up'). I was the only one in the shop, and you could tell from his demeanor that it was like pulling teeth for him to talk to me. When I asked him if I could see one of the rifles on the wall he said to me 'You buyin, cause if you're not, I'm not gonna waste my time getting it down'. I told him to forget it. He then went on to start blathering about a large stuffed lion that was mounted up in the corner, and how angry it made him because he thought it was poorly done. I honestly thought it looked pretty good, and that the guy was weird about complaining about the lion to me. He then went on to start talking about how proud he was of all his safari trips, and started pointing out pictures of the big game he'd taken. One of them was an elephant. I'm pro hunting, but I really didn't understand how the safari trophies had anything to do with his not wanting to sell me a rifle. Also while I was in there before I started talking to him, he was on the phone belittling the people that were in using the range to a buddy of his on the phone. And if you want to use his range, you'd better plan on buying HIS ammo, if you want to bring in your own, he'll charge you more. I've also heard he wont let you bring in your own targets, he'll demand you use his targets. One day when we were out at the Hawkeye Wildlife Shooting Range some younger college aged guys came up very excited with an AK and a box of ammo they'd just bought, we got to talking with them about it, and where they bought the rifle and ammo at. They said that they'd made their purchase at Sports Outfitters, and when they revealed the price, turned out they'd paid too much for the rifle, and about double to going rate for the ammo they'd bought. These guys didn't have a clue when they were making their purchase, and it sure seemed like these guys got fleeced, by the angry old man back at Sports Outfitters. read more

So I stoped in because they advertised if you buy two boxes of ammo you will get one free on all ammo. I tolded him I would like 20 boxes of 7.62x39 I was told we can't do buy one get one on these so I left . I came back weeks later to look around when I opened the door all the lights in the shop where off . The own comes out of the back room turns them on then try's to push a sale on me . When I told him I wasn't interested right now he says are we done here then turns off the lights and went to the back room . Lol great way to keep customers. read more

This is the worse gun store ever. I have shopped in gun stores everywhere and met jerks and knowitalls and seen all sorts of over priced guns and ammo. This store tops every category but managed to surprise me in one way. The owner refused me service because I am in the US Army. I came here while on leave prior to my next deployment amd needed a part so I could continue to use my new revolver. I am not certain how I could have purchased my gun at his store since I am not stationed in Iowa, but he told me he wouldn't sell me the part I needed even if he had it. I visited this store for the first time yesterday to use the pistol range. The man at the counter was helpful. He saw that I had my own ammo and just sold me a few targets. After I shot my ammo I returned to the counter and purchased a box of S&W .40 FMJ. The price was a little less than I paid at a local sporting goods store. Overall I was pleased with my visit. The guy at the counter was pleasant and got me what I needed. I plan to return often, even though it is a bit of a drive. read more

I just purchased a pistol there yesterday. They were very helpful and pleasant to work with. I liked the no BS this is how it is approach. Arlan? I think his name was? spent time with me going over the pros and cons of the different pistols I was looking at. I told him up front I have a few guns but don't spend a lot of time shooting or researching. Did I pay too much? Maybe Could I have run all over the state trying to haggle a deal? Like a previous reviewer had said before me, I don't know how this guy stays in business. So I walk in the store and start looking in the gun case at pistols trying to figure out which one I would like to look at/buy. I look in the case and find one i would like to take out and see, I look over at the owner and he is just staring off into space sitting on a stool. I decide to be patient and wait and continue to look at the different guns waiting for him to acknowledge my presence in his store as I am the only person there. Ten minutes goes by and finally my patience has run out and ask him to take the gun out so I can look at it. He comes over opens the case takes the gun out and hands it to me without saying a word. As I was a first time gun buyer I ask him a few different questions and he answers them all with either a yes or no with no elaboration, seeming as though I am wasting his time. I brush it off as he must get a lot of people coming in with no real intention to buy. So i tell him I would like to buy the gun, an hour of range time and a box of ammo etc. The only other thing he said to me the entire time I was there was "fill this out", "Your total is $807" and a few range rules. I finish my time at the range walk back up the stairs, put my rental glasses and ear protection on the counter and say Thanks and walk to the exit and he doesn't say anything.... ANYTHING! Not a "thanks", "have a good afternoon", "Come back soon", nothing. I just spent over $800 in his store not to mention the only person in the store, and he still pretends like I am wasting his time by being there. Besides the obvious lack of common courtesy to a customer everything that I bought there was over priced. cleaning kit there $20 gander mountain $10 CLP there $15 anywhere else $5, worst part he sold me $15 fiocchi ammo for $30. Gun was the only thing on par with what I would pay elsewhere but gander mountain or midwest shooting supply would have at least thrown in a free gun case with it. Never shopping here again. All my future business will go to midwest shooting supply- beautiful new range, great prices, even better people who really want to help. Don't give this guy your business or your time. read more

Like previous customers have said don't let the exterior change your decision to go in this place. I visited with my mom just the other day and I am a few years new to the world of guns and my mom doesn't know them that well at all. When we walked in we were greeted right away by Arlan. We were looking for a pistol for my mom to carry and Arlan was extremely helpful in helping us find a specific type of gun to buy. I was more than pleased with my visit and will be back. The only thing I was not happy with was he was constantly trying to sell us on the gun right then and there when we explained that we were going to wait and think on it. This place caused the worst Internet purchase I have ever made. I was sold a long gun in an original box supposedly in excellent shape. We had an agreement of a 3 day right to return less shipping if I wasn't satisfied with the gun. I opened the package at my dealer and never removed it from my FFL's location. The gun had a broken stock when I called them, they tried to make it appear as though it was shipping damage. UPS sent an armorer to investigate and he denied the claim since the packaging was not damaged. They said to bad about my luck and hung up the phone on me. Drove from dubuque to cedar rapids to use the 100yd indoor range. Was there about 15 minutes early. He opened the doors a little after 10 a.m. I notice the building was about 60 yds long, kept wondering if there was even a 100 yd range. Meanwhile i called him the day before asked for prices for the 100 yard range, he replied $20 per hr seemed a little high but it was better than freezing. Double checked the website $20 per hr also. So i go inside tell him i wanna use the range, He says its gonna be $50 per hr!!!!! I said WHAT! U told me $20 on the phone yesterday and your website even says $20 Per Hr. Needless to say I left and wasnt paying $50 Bucks a hr, So I drove to the Dyersville Sportsman Club a little outta the way back to Dubuqe and sighted my gun in on their 200 yard rifle range that only cost $25 a yr!!! I even looked at the reviews and went anyway. Live and learn im only out the $20 in Gas, This chump definately wasnt getting 50 or 100 For a hr or 2 of range time!!! 1-15-16 read more
