Thursday sunset hour tastings & nibbles. We made a reservation for the inaugural sunset wine tasting experience and enjoyed two, 2oz pours of wine with a small plate of nibbles overlooking the lake. The nibbles were delicious, but didn't necessarily pair with the wines offered, which was my only critique of the experience. The views are magical and we ended up purchasing a bottle of their Cabernet franc, which is a silver medalist and has a gorgeous, velvet texture. Cedar Creek wine was so so. I am not a wine connoisseur or a sommelier. I don't drink because I have that serious Asian Flush. So this review is based on what B told me. We had a bottle of wine shipped to us during Christmas. We cracked it open at dinner and from what B told me the wine was ok. It was not great. He didn't even want to finish it. He said I could use it in my cooking instead. I guess that sums up how good this wine is. B is from Kelowna and he said that Cedar Creek is over priced based on its quality. He doesn't recommend their wine. Also of course, the better bottles can only be purchased in Kelowna. I did have a sip of the wine and to me, it tasted like all wine. I guess if you are giving it to someone like me, it is fine. read more

The last winery on our trip was CedarCreek. Like Mission Hill, it was one of the more expensive tastings, at $22 per person (no discount with a purchase), but it was a nice, relaxed tasting. There were two tasting menus to choose from, the "True North" (Ehrenfelser, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, and two Rieslings) and "South of the Bluff" (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Merlot, and Meritage). I didn't like how you had to pick one or the other, instead of 5 wines of your choice, as I liked wines from both selections, but each person could select which menu they preferred -- the entire group didn't have to choose the same menu. A friend and I chose the "South of the Bluff" menu, and the three others in our group chose the "True North" menu, so we were able to sample a bit of everything. I enjoyed the wines, particularly the Merlot, and decided to purchase a bottle. I was shocked to discover it was $50! I also purchased a bottle of the Ehrenfelser. I would have purchased more, but at their prices, two bottles were enough. Overall a great time, but not one of my favourite experiences. 3.5 stars. Bad timing! We pulled up in the same minute as a tour group. We waited for awhile to be served, felt rushed during the tasting and then waited again to pay. Honestly the experience was probably a three star but when they waived the $10 fee because we'd waited so long, it gave them a little bump. For the tasting, you choose five from their extensive list. Overall the wines were quite good. The most interesting of which was 'M' a Madeira-style wine made with spirits. We didn't find anything we feel in love with but nothing we shook our heads at either. They have a lovely property that you can wander around and the sun was shining directly on them in the afternoon. My suggestion of course, watch out for those tour vans. read more

Fantastic views and beautiful buildings... unfortunately the wine tastings were very very poor. I had heard this winery was one of the top rated in the area so booked a reservation. Of all the wines we tasted only one Pinot noir would be considered "drinkable". The others were mainly sour or unfiltered/cloudy. I asked if I could order a glass of their merlot to try and they said that's only possible at the restaurant--- seems very silly. Certainly not worth $60 a bottle though. It's too bad but a $9 bottle from Target beats anything this place has. If this is the best the area has to offer, try other areas like eastern Washington etc. read more

Beautiful winery but it was impossible to hear ANYTHING in the barrel room. We went outside for the tasting, which made it much easier to hear information about the wine, which for me is the real reason to take a tour. WARNING - construction. You will have a blocked view... and hear the sounds of saws circulating. Sooo that goes the part about peace and quiet and amazing scenary... HOWEVER... this place has redeeming qualities 1. Unlike the Terrace at Mission Hills - usually you can actually get a reservation 2. The staff here is the friendliest, warmest, most customer conscious people I have ever met at any dining experience. 3. I had the on site made pasta - to die for. Ate here today for lunch for the first time, I'd rate it 4.5. Celebrating a special occasion. Very nice place, beautiful location. The look of the place and details are beautiful. Has a beautiful view of the lake as well. We ordered: glass of ehrenfelser and a glass of guwertraminer, oysters on the half shell, house made foccacia bread, artic char and house made pasta done vegan. The wine was really nice. We both preferred the ehrenfelser - very crisp, refreshing and kinda sweet. My fiancé loved his oysters and artic char. We both loved the focaccia bread with olive oil and balsamic and my pasta dish with tomato sauce and veggies was good. The pasta was a tad chewy and that could be something that they prefer just like how some cooks like to cook their salmon still medium rare in the centre and some like it well done. Our server was very nice, friendly, helpful and served us with a smile. Overall the whole experience was nice. What is it that makes doing wine tours so fun? What is it that makes it so special? Wineries like these have one thing in particular for me. That's the excellent food they create to help show off the qualities of the wines they pair each dish with. Even more so is the fresh legumes, the herbs the vegetables, the local ingredients they source out to create their culinary masterpieces. Each winery has their own style and panache in presenting their menus to the customers. Me I want to try the salads and the vegetables. Almost every good winery will serve a clean tasting vegetable dish and salads to go with their summery young tasting wines. Today I had just that. In season asparagus salad with lentils and seeds and a goat cheese purée lightly seated with lemon. What a perfect clean tasting dish! ( see pictures). I also had their Vegetables plate which consisted of heirloom radishes, BokChoy garlic ramps tossed in something that tasted like a light wine butter sauce that you could just barely taste so that it didn't change the simple flavours the veggies had to offer. Simply another 5 star dining experience with a view and I didn't even start on the wine yet. I'm sure plenty of others will write about that!! Would I come again? Of course!! read more

CedarCreek Estate Winery recently underwent substantial renovations. The refurbished facility and tasting room is immaculate and seems more fitting to a Mediterranean hillside than the Okanagan lakeshore. The interior wine shop is warm and features an array of other products in addition to CedarCreek's wines. Visitors can take in the view from the nearby rose garden and pavilion, where special functions are held, or they can enjoy lunch at the Vineyard Terrace restaurant, which features an array of Mediterranean and West Coast dishes. CedarCreek released its first vintage 18 years ago after Senator Gordon Fitzpatrick purchased an apple orchard that sloped towards Okanagan Lake. Since then, the winery has gained elite status and widespread recognition for its premium wines, and has expanded its vineyard holdings to a site across the lake at Greata Ranch and a site in the South Okanagan. One gets a sense of the winery's eminence upon entering the drive, where the Fitzpatrick family crest flag flies proudly. Wines: CedarCreek has three series of wine ranging from the premium quality Platinum Reserve Series to the more economical Classic Series. Varieties are varied, especially in the Classic Series. What a disappointment of its transformation compared to before it was owned by Mission Hill. It used to be classy and refined winery but now it's like high school kids party place with too upbeat music and too young staffs with two inches finger nails (so unsanitary for food/drink service industry) who constantly made mistakes and could not remember orders. There was a structural issue of the tasting room as well; its spacious concrete room echoed sound so effectively, and noise in that space hurt my ear and head especially with their bad choice of music. Quality of foods at the Home Block restaurant was disappointing too...looked good but taste was boring with confusing flavours. Miss Cedar Creek what it used to be. read more

The place is beautifully renovated w nice washrooms too, but the resturant was just.... not very tasteful. Both me and my friend ordered the 2 course lunch, we tried different plates so we can share. The salad was very sour and excessive dressing, the other one w mushrooms was weird tasting, the fish was good, but the mash potatoes were normal, the spinach was god, so sour I could hardly swallow it. I must be losing my mind. I clearly remember visiting Cedar Creek Estate Winery. But in reflection, I can't tell you anything about it. I remember us driving up to it. I remember the construction to one side impeding a normally spectacular view. I have photos of the exterior, as does my girlfriend. We found photos online of the tasting room, but they do not jog my memory. My girlfriend claims the photos on Google inaccurate, and they must have renovated since then. Still nothing. I must have been zapped by a neutralizer from Men in Black. I know you might be thinking that perhaps we walked up and decided for some insane reason to turn around, except I have bottles I bought from Cedar Creek, including a 2015 Platinum "Block" Single Vineyard Riesling sitting in front of me. It's real, in my hand, and it's good, confirming I bought the bottle under my own volition and was not kidnapped and brainwashed to think so. It's not like they pried my eyes open and forced me to watch bottles breaking while being unable to blink. I remembered Oak Bay, Summerhill, Tantalus before we arrived, as well as Monto Creek after. The photos we did take of the exterior reveal a breathtaking winery. Sure, the weather wasn't the best that day, but that didn't detract from the construction. Upon deeper reflection, I seem to remember diamond shelves behind the counter like those seen at Mission Hill. Did I suffer trauma? Seriously, this is weird. This must be one of those situations where because I forgot to take photos, my mind blanked on the event because it's so used to relying on them for mnemonic recall. I actually want to remember this place, unlike Summerhill, which I would have preferred blocked. The building looks amazing, the restaurant appealing. However, what I respect the most is their desire to sell actual wine, not their label or novelties or pseudoscientific mysticism. I've never seen, and I do never, a wine maturation chart on a winery website before. Every single bottle that is worth a damn is laid out with a recommendation of how long to wait in the cellar before opening. Seriously, why don't more wineries do this? We had been told that the deeper the punt, the longer it should age. Naturally, my Riesling has no punt, is not located on this chart, so I assume I can open it immediately and enjoy. By the way, I'll reiterate that I was "told" that, but that doesn't mean it's actually true. I do research these things. And you can also download images as zipped files from their website; have they thought of everything? They haven't thought of a mnemonic deceive so I could remember their damn tasting room. I will believe my girlfriend in that I entered said room and enjoyed a tasting. The bottle in my hand proves that, but I could not recall the gender or age of the host. Maybe it was The Shadow, and he altered my memory with some Jedi mind trick. Perhaps this is how they keep their secrets. You walk in, enjoy yourself, get sold on wine, leave, but then not remember why you enjoyed it, necessitating your return. There is a small chance, upon reflection, the location might have been boring; I must admit that is a possibility. Nah, much more logical to assume something involving aliens. read more

This was the first winery that I visited on my weekend in the Okanagan. There was a good deal of construction so it took a while just to reach an area to park. But once I was there I was very well received. Their manager, Marilla, was very informative and answered all my technical questions. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the wines. We had an unpleasant experience without even sitting down to dine. We booked one night prior from Opentable for a 6:15pm reservation. At 3:30 we received a call from the restaurant to confirm our reservation, and that was it. We arrived on time, but first of all, the host had trouble finding my reservation as my name was spelt "weirdly". I don't know how weird it could be, as it's just my own name from my Opentable account. Next, she pointed towards the high tables outside the door, which was right up the entrance stairs and completely outside the restaurant. She said that because we only booked last night, this was all the seat she can offer us. They can put an umbrella up for us if we want, because it is windier than usual. We told them that if we have to compromise, we would have appreciated to be informed during the phone call that confirmed our attendance. The host then asked us to wait to see if she can do anything for us. We waited at the wine shop (as it was the entrance to the restaurant), and after quite a while, she returned with another staff to tell us that they are fully booked. The (seemingly) more senior staff blames us once again for booking only last night via Opentable, and that if we book that way, the few tables at the staircase would count as available. I reiterated once again that we'd just like to have been informed with a phone call a few hours prior. We also said that the wind was not the biggest concern, but the fact that the seats were without shade and right beside their construction site. To our surprise and dismay, her replies were: 1. We booked too late from OpenTable, which prompted the restaurant to mark us for those seats. 2. Construction is all year round, it's "on their website, and everybody knows it." 3. A few hours ago (when they called to confirm), it wasn't windy. We just told them that if everything was normal and customers didn't need to compromise, we wouldn't be having this conversation at the door at the moment. We then left. We were appalled that she wanted to put the blame on us for "booking late" (a day prior) and not reading their website prior to dining. Why were we being shamed by a high end restaurant that we were going to pay money to dine in? Update: Two days after this review, I was contacted by the winery and received a personal apology from their general manager. Unfortunately, we are already out of town and back home. The gesture, however, was appreciated. read more

We stopped by for a Thursday afternoon tasting. The place in the midst of a major reconstruction project and getting to the wine tasting room requires the negotiation of some dusty rough dirt driveways and a short walk down a fairly steep dirt walkway. Once inside it's fairly nice and they have temporarily converted the old restaurant into a tasting room. The $5 price for tasting four wines is very reasonable. The ambiance is not as great as it will when the construction is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2018. They had several whites that we enjoyed and I'm sure it will deserve at least another star when the building is completed. The staff was friendly, courteous and very knowledgeable. read more

Went there on a beautiful August afternoon. Their website says they are pet friendly which is why we went there. Though they do allow pets, tying them to a fence post on a busy sidewalk with no shade is not "friendly", but at least they allowed them in. I tied mine to a big tree in the shade, but I had brought more than a leash so I was better equipped than the other dog owners. Of the four people having lunch, three of us had horrible meals. The pasta special was so salty and soaked in grease. Hardly touched it. The mussels had shredded chorizo sausage in it and instead of being mixed around in the sauce was two big clumps on top and is not a good mix to have with mussels. The chef should know better. Again, this meal was too salty to eat. The one meal that was edible was a salad with just watermelon and greens. There is nothing on their website that said that this restaurant is one big construction site. Nothing like the sound of electric saws and constant hammering during a very overpriced lunch. My greasy, gross lunch, a glass of wine and a shared desert came to $50 with tip. The only redeeming quality was the desert was very good, staff were very friendly and the view is amazing. I don't mind paying for the view and service, but at the very least, the food should be edible. Will not be back, and definitely do not recommend. read more

I'm not a wine connoisseur but I do have a taste for the good wines ... their wines ranked from vinegary to very acidic to a bitter and foul after taste. I ended up buying 2 bottles since I was shy to leave with empty hands.. next day I opened one of the 2016 Ehrenfelser... and I couldn't believe how acidic and bitter tasting that bottle was.
