Chesterbrook Academy - Newtown Square has been the worst childcare experience of my 13 years as a mom. In our experience, the environment was cold, harsh, and deeply unsettling. When children are sad or crying, they are placed in a so-called "cuddle corner" and intentionally ignored--no one is allowed to speak to or comfort them until they stop crying. Teachers follow a strict "no response" approach, meaning kids who are screaming, throwing, or clearly distressed are simply ignored. The level of rudeness, judgment, and lack of warmth from staff has honestly left me bewildered. My child came home crying many days, saying the teachers yelled at them--and I personally witnessed teachers yelling at children right in front of me. Leaving your child in someone else's care is already incredibly hard. You expect compassion, patience, and basic emotional safety. That was not our experience here. I can't speak to other Chesterbrook locations, but Chesterbrook Academy in Newtown Square is one I would strongly urge parents to avoid. If sharing this helps even one child have a safer, more loving experience elsewhere, it's worth it

They checked in when we started to make sure it was a smooth transition and went the extra mile to ensure everything was going well and our daughter was happy. As a parent feeling comfortable with those caring for your child is priceless. The facility is completely renovated, engaging and very clean. The teachers were wonderful and our daughter had a great learning experience. We currently attend Chesterbrook in North Carolina and we highly recommend this location, our current North Carolina location and Chesterbrook Academy as a child care organization.

They allow the students to explore; they encourage them to speak up & speak out; they take an interest in them inside and outside of school & they really foster a culture of diversity and understanding of differences. Prior to coming to Walden, my son attended K-1st grade at a school that just wasn't up to par academically & where we felt our son got lost in the shuffle. Here, everyone knows him by name, makes an effort to know us as parents and really digs deep to understand how they can best help each individual child. I especially love that the way they teach isn't just by lecture, sitting at a desk staring at a chalkboard, but through hands-on projects, exploration & using sensory and tactile items to accommodate different learning styles.

I was told directly by the enrollment office " Kathy" that the school "can't survive" by offering financial aid, which was very discouraging. After applying for financial aid, I never received a formal decision, even though I was told it had been mailed. Instead, I received a random refund amount with no explanation. Throughout the process, the enrollment officer frequently changed her statements and would not acknowledge the inconsistencies. To be clear: I believe the school itself is strong, and the teachers seem genuinely dedicated and hardworking. But the enrollment process, especially my experience with the enrollment officer, was disorganized and unprofessional. If you choose to apply, I strongly recommend documenting everything and keeping all communication in writing.

A short time after her first birthday I realized my child had developmental regression & sought out help through early intervention services who worked with her in daycare at this facility twice a week. She lacked in communication & also had some sensory issues which early intervention helped TREMENDOUSLY! Up until maybe a few months ago she started having some behavioral issues which her OT & ST were aware of & worked with the school tirelessly to come up with ways to help them HELP HER in the classroom but were blantantly ignored. Instead they chose to record my child which by the way is now only TWO, in instances where she may have been having a meltdown , not able to make her needs known or simply was having sensory issues that others couldn't understand & didn't try to. One of the ladies who works the front desk Christina referred me to another service which is like an IEP who can be present with my child everyday at school to help with her behaviors when her OT & ST aren't there. KEEP IN MIND, these services are not typically offered to 2 yrs old bc they normally work with kids 3 & up. They also would be able to give my child an officially autism diagnosis on eval. Well, yesterday 5/22/25 was my child's ST day & I read every note she writes when her sessions are done from 10am-11am. According to her my child had a great day! Spoke with her teachers about her behaviors throughout the week & was told she has been doing better with keeping her shoes on & instances of "scratching others." However, when I picked her up @ 4:30 I was told by Christina at the front desk that my child had two altercations with another child & "scratched them on the eye lid then scratched them on the side of the eye & in a nut shell tmrw is just going to have to be her last day." No prior meeting with me or even her ST/OT to discuss her behavior to say hey if it continues in a week or so I would need to start looking for other centers to send her to. Nothing in writing for me to sign her dismissal/termination. Just flat out she has to go. I've been getting the feeling they didn't want my child there & instead of doing it PROPERLY they did it EXTREMELY DISTASTEFUL & unprofessional. They also have high turnovers with staff & even have some employees who simply should NOT be working around small children! Ms. Chrissy was my child's main teacher this year & also the only teacher who seemed to understand my child's needs & also listened & learned her better by working with her ST & OT to implement their goals for my child in the classroom. I am also an LPN & work 7a-7p 3 days a week so I have to take my child to daycare by 6:30am those mornings. Usually Ms. Taryn & one other child is there that early but on a few occasions she was not & it was just Jon who is also married to Christina there watching that child. Again, my child can only say a few words & I NEVER felt comfortable leaving a little girl around a grown man unattended! I don't care if it's only for 5-10 mins while Ms. Taryn runs late or whatever the case may be it should NOT be allowed for everyone's safety! Marianne who also works the front desk is very rude & nasty! I hate to say it but it definitely feels as though race plays a big part in this daycare as there aren't many African American kids there. My experience in the beginning was great but over the last year has been terrible. I am a working mother of 2 & now have to seek alternative childcare because they literally just threw my child out with no warning. I am in the process of seeking legal action against them! Parents please don't let the "family owned & operated" slogan fool you. PLEASE be mindful when sending your little ones to these careless, money hungry people !!

Everyone seemed genuinely friendly, and it didn't feel staged. We've been extremely happy with the care that Lisa and her staff have provided, they are very caring and great with the kids. My daughter runs in to daycare with a smile every morning. They do a lot of fun and imaginative activities with the kids. My daughter is already starting to count, learn her colors and is recognizing letters. Lisa sends a monthly email with pictures from the past month, it is a lot of fun to see the kids in action. I've been very happy with the small daycare environment and I think that my daughter gets the attention that she needs. The daycare is spacious and very clean with a nice outdoor play area.

As a first time parent, I relied on them to help with many developmental transitions and as a full time working parent that was fantastic. Lisa and here staff provide an in-home and center experience wrapped up in one. The teachers are like family to us and my kids love each one. The meals provided are healthy and varied and the price is very reasonable for what you receive. Both of my children excel here socially and academically. Our first child is entering Kindergarten and he is starting with so much confidence and knowledge which is priceless to me. We went from a full time family to part time and having that option was great because I absolutely did not want to leave. They have become an extension of how we like to teach and parent our children.
