The efficient office staff fit me in the next day, as Dr. James explained all my options and we decided on two crowns. I was fitted for temporary crowns that day, and even though the procedure was relatively painless, I was uncomfortable. Dr. James nicely reassured me by a light touch on my shoulder that I was doing very well. A few days later, I returned for my permanent crowns and they were perfect! The light shade of color matched my teeth, as if they were my own. I highly recommend Dr. James for his compassion and expertise, along with very accommodating and kind dental staff members. However, after a Friday appointment (earlier in 2024) when I didn't recognize anyone working that day, I finally decided to stop the commute and sign on with Gayle's strongly recommended dentist - Dr. Unruh. Every time a new dentist or hygienist opens my mouth, I image the person to be Laurence Olivier in Marathon Man asking me: Is it Safe? And as far as Gayle's high marks for this dentist and staff? Trust, but Verify. And Gayle's right! Dr. Unruh is kind of soft spoken, gentle but thorough, while explaining things well along the way. His support staff works in concert with that very nicely. Even the "contract" dental hygienist during my last visit told me that I had made a great choice. At my age where new things may crop up more often, I tend to take his or the hygienist's advice to heart. So far, I've had a full "on boarding" evaluation, a cavity filled, a classic probe-based teeth cleaning, and a precautionary referral. Things are moving on a positive direction and my new Waterpik will be arriving soon.

We are fully nomadic for 16 years now so go to many different dentists wherever our travels take us and Dr. Ha is a real pro. He did a crown on one of my zirconium implants and did a great job and charged a very fair price...their hygienist Kathy is fantastic too...did many cleanings over the years with her as we would visit Tahoe to ski, and their front person Brittany is always very helpful and accommodating...I really would love to give all my business to Dr. Ha if our future travels bring us within close proximity to Tahoe and his office, especially since for my crown for example, he was willing to lower his price and almost match another dentist's estimate, which was great, because I preferred Dr. Ha to do it, because he is a real pro and truly does a great job and takes pride in his work, which is not always the case with other dentists, and we've been to many in many different states.

However, if you are considering this office for dental care, you should know that Dr. Cassidy sold his practice a while back (I'm not sure when). The new owers or at least the new management are not so great. The office manager (Janine) is NOT nice, she has no concept of customer relations, and as a result, we will no longer be using Tahoe Dentist. We switched insurance companies back in Jan (2022) and scheduled our annual cleaning a few months after. Once at the office, we gave the staff our new insurance information and specifically asked if the yearly cleaning and X-rays would be covered (as they had been for every cleaning we have had for over 25 years). We were told YES, of course, it would be covered. A few weeks later, we received a bill for $200+ each for the service. I called and had a conversation about the $400+ bills with Janine and was told in a very matter-of-fact and RUDE way that we needed to pay for the service because "it's not her fault that our insurance would not pay". BTW, Janine is not that great at getting back to you; according to the phone log, I had to call and text over 30 times to have this conversation. So I called our insurance and was told that "if we had gone to an in-network dentist, the serevice would have been covered 100%, and if Tahoe Dentist and checked, they would have been told that. Realizing what had happened, I called Janine back and offered to compromise and pay 50% of the cost. I did this because while they DID tell us the service would be 100% covered, I should have checked with my insurance myself (lesson learned). Janine got back to me a few days later with a 20% discount. Not because she or the office staff had done anything wrong, but because "we are good customers". She also wanted me to know how LUCKY we were to be getting that discount because WE were 100% responsible". NOTE TO THE NEW OWNERS OF TAHOE DENTIST: I know the customer is not always right, but we have been good customers spending thousands of $(out of pocket) at this office over the years, not to mention what was billed to our insurance. Janine is (in our opinion) not well suited for customer relations; she is rude, unnecessarily aggressive, and just awful for business. Also, I have not paid the bills yet because they still don't show the 20% discount.
