    Funghi Risotto

Cello is a nice and refreshing change of palate scenery after going on a Latin/Mexican food bender. Cello also provides a bit of a more romantic scenery perfect for couples on vacation. The quality, richness, and fresh ingredients really shine at Cello, starting with the bread offered. Our table started with the "Fritto Mixto di Mare", which was essentially a mix of lightly fried shrimp, squid, fish, and artichokes served with two wonderful sauces. For my entree, I had difficulty deciding, as I was torn between pasta and risotto. I went for the Risotto Funghi, which was absolute perfection -- rich, creamy and savory. Though, warning! If you get bored of having one dish and one texture, I would suggest sharing with someone as I grew weary of the risotto. Ladies, at the end of your meal, you'll get a sweet single rose as a token of their appreciation.

This Italian restaurant is phenomenon! The service is fast and very professional. Food is extraordinarily good with the rich flavors in all the dishes with fresh and high end ingredients. The restaurant is located next to the lake that makes the view and the overall dining experience very pleasant. Highlights of the menu: 1. Homemade bread - with butter, olive oil and vinegar 2. Crust bread 3. Risotto 4. Fettuccini Al Fungi 5. Catch of the Day: Sea-bass with lime and a different kind of risotto 6. Red wine 7. Sparking water - they'll ask for the option of cucumber, lime or lemon Perfect! I would recommend this restaurant for anyone going to stay in Banyan Tree Resort Mayakoba in Playa Del Carmen!

El Puerto is a refresh concept at the Fairmont Mayakoba. Serving Asian inspired food, we were…read moreintrigued and had dinner there two nights ago. The menu features ceviches, tiradito, sushi rolls, small plates, and entrees. I liked the fact that the drink menu featured a handful of interesting sakes, and decided on the junmai daigingo to start. It was excellent, very dry, crisp with a very smooth finish. My only complaint was that it was an incredibly small pour. Sake is similar to wine, so I assumed they would have given me at least a 4-6 oz pour, but it seemed more a shot. I started off with the hamachi tiradito, which was excellent. The hamachi was very fresh, large cuts, and seasoned beautifully in lemon, lime, chili, and peppers. It was quite a large serving, and likely shareable for two people. I would definitely order this dish again. We also tried the scorpion roll, which was a special that night. The roll was also quite large filled with a tasty tempura shrimp. For our entrees we ordered the steak and the duck tacos. I thought the steak was outstanding. A very lean and large cut of flank steak, but which had been seasoned well and was very tender. We also enjoyed the duck tacos, but the steak was by far our favorite. We ended our meal with the deconstructed key lime pie. This came highly recommended by our server and was outstanding. Very deep, bold, tart key lime with wonderful cream and a light crunchy crust. This reminded me of the delicious key lime pie we could only find in Florida. It was so good, we considered going back another night to get more! Overall we had an excellent menu at El Puerto. The service was great and I liked the fact that the chef came out at the end of our meal to welcome us and ask how we liked our meal. If you are looking for a good Asian Fusion meal in the Mayakoba area, I would highly recommend El Puerto.

Came here for last night at Playa Del Carmen and birthday dinner. I briefly checked the review and…read moreit looked good so off we went. Restaurant looked pretty busy and the waiter was able to accommodate 8 people at the last minute. Restaurant was clean and nice vibe to it. Staff was friendly and attentive. Waiter brought complementary bread and sticks prior to meal which was good. I ordered the Calamarata pasta with shrimp, baby lobster, octopus calamari, clam mussels, presh tomatoes and parsley. Others ordered homemade spaghetti with mussels and shrimp, homemade tagliatelle, carbonara, and Alfredo with lobster. Waiter was nice and brought sampler on the house, which was half meatball on top of some type of Chipotle sauce. Meatball was not too bad with the sauce. Dishes came and I was bit disappointed with the presentation. Even though it was the most expensive dish on the menu it was around $26 and in US this kind of dish could easily be over $40. The baby lobster looked pretty good, two clams tasted fresh, and mussels were ok. I took my first bite and the sauce had strong seafood flavor which was overwhelming, and it was not a good flavor. Fishy seafood flavor was over powering. I tasted the mussel and other lobster dish and sad to say the flavor was very similar. Half way through my dish, I flipped over the baby lobster and to my surprise the meat portion by the tail was empty. I was like what the heck happened to my lobster. I looked through the dish to see if it fell out and nothing.. So I showed the waiter my dish and asked him what happened to the lobster tail. The waiter said maybe then they cut it in half other dish got the losbter tail.. {Ok}. Then the waiter had the audacity to ask me if I already ate it. I said ummm no I just flipped the lobster and called you. The waiter then said he will take care of me later. Shortly after he came back with one full baby lobster split in half. This was a nice jesture and the lobster tasted good. Over all, the dishes were just average and service was great until he questioned my integrity. Finally the icing on the cake was when the bill came and I handed the waiter the bill, he counted the money in front of me. . After he realized I gave him a tip he said thank you. I was hoping this place would be so great I would want to come back. But nope, I left here going man, I wish Yelp had option to give 2 and half stars.

All of our dishes were wonderful, especially the lamb ragu with pappardelle. And the servers are very nice and helpful. The location of the restaurant at the end of 38th St. near the beach, away from the crowds on Quinta Avenida makes for a relaxing, quiet ambiance. A total winner!
