The other visitors were very nice, and my dogs (mostly) had fun meeting the other (mostly) friendly dogs. The park is private, and while it looks as though annual memberships are available, day passes are $3 for the first dog and $1 for each additional dog. Definitely worth the money. We Paid for the permit, read all the rules, waited patiently in the car for the training section, did everything by the book. My dogs not aggressive at all, they was excited to go and meet other dogs (I have two standard poodles a 3 year old and 1 year old). Then this old dude pulled up with his husky and mutt, he saw us getting out the car, my dogs was on leashed when he decided to let his aggressive dog out of the car off leashed and attack mine, drew blood! Caused a gash on her back. Incompetent, ignorant, irresponsible, illiterate human being caused pain to my dog! We will be back and I hope and pray I see him again so I can sue him for the damages he caused. I hope the city put that aggressive dog down before that dog cause serious injury! My dog now in shock and in pain. Sometimes it's not you, but other irresponsible people! Now we got a problem.

It's a HUGE fenced in space, divided into three sections - training, small dogs, and general. Plenty of space to play together or branch off by yourself. There is a gravel path that goes around the entire play area where human parents usually just walk laps to keep up with their fur babies. I've noticed about as much forgotten/missed poops as I have at other parks, but the backdrop of this one is so soothing. It's tucked back in Squaw Creek Park by the driving range, surrounded by wild grass and a community garden plot. The park is maintained by CR Parks and K9COLA, which hosts small events at the parks every so often (Halloween treat hunts?!)

Like it's sister park, K9 Acres in Marion, the park is divided into sections for training, small dogs, and general play. We prefer Cheyenne for the winding paths through the trees. It's a little more secluded and peaceful, even if the rugby players are out. Our dogs love chasing each other through the wooded areas around the path and the shade the trees provide on hotter days. It seems to engage them a little better and tucker them out quicker ;) There's plenty of water around the trails and an occasional sled serving as a pool. They have some play equipment - seesaw, tunnel, bridge, hoops - in the general area.

Also, doggie bags are provided and there is a water fountain for the pups. Being here you can forget that you're at a dogpark and walk around between the trees, enjoying nature. The only downfall is that the fence is old and since my dog is an escape artist he can get through both gates and into the parking lot. I like to think that I trained him not to do that anymore, but in reality he's probably just having so much fun with the other dogs that he forgets that escaping is still an option. We frequent this park multiple times a week and love it! The dogs are friendly and the owners are responsible.

There weren't any other dogs there when we stopped by (during the day on a weekday) so we let him run free in the large dog area. I recommend wearing good hiking shoes in this area, as you kinda have to forge your own path through the thick bush. I was able to do it in sandles but I wouldn't recommend that. My Beagles are hunters and love this kind of a park...and since I'm a wild child I probably would do it barefoot if i had to, since these dog areas are rare and always make my heart sing. Good quality doggie bags provided, some shade and a picnic table in each area. The water fountain is in the common entrance area of the three parks, so that was a little different, but it was thought out well and works fine. There's a porter potty for humans and a small parking lot. It's within a forested area and away from houses or traffic. I think it was built on $62,000 of donations and that in itself is pretty cool!

Instead of fixed benches the park includes movable lawn chairs - which is nice - especially if you need to sit apart during the pandemic. Our dog actually loved running round and round the chairs like an obstacle course. Admission is free and most pet owners are responsible for picking up after their pet and watching to ensure proper pet behavior in the park. We have 2 dog parks in our own town, but this one is our favorite one to visit - even with the extra minutes to drive from Bloomington, it is worth it.

I pulled up the Yelp app to find a park to explore and voila, there was Vander Veer Botanical Park. It was a toasty 93 degree day so we were quickly drawn to the plentiful shaded spaces found throughout this large park. In addition to a botanical garden (which we didn't visit specifically), they also have a rose garden, small pond with a fountain, long shaded promenade, and plentiful paved paths for walking. We strolled through the rose garden and then were naturally drawn to the long shaded walkway that leads up to a large and entertaining fountain at the end. This park has so many lovely uses for varying audiences and interests. Highly recommend giving it a visit if you find yourself in the Quad Cities!
