There's a picnic area at the inner trailhead as it's close to the small lodge I believe. I tend to use the access off of 31st St instead of driving through the park. I've seen more runners than dog walkers on the trail, but wayyy too much poop. It also gets really muddy and buggy when the weather is right, so it becomes unenjoyable for me. I'd recommend in dry weather during the daytime so you don't step in mud or poop.

The trees provide good shade in the summer. And I love that there's even an option on this side of town. But this park is too small. They have a little bit of equipment in each yard plus a bench or two and a trail looping through the trees in the main yard. I never see water out there, but the waste bags are usually stocked. Be aware that you park at the Boyson Rd Cedar Trail trailhead and have to cross the bike path to get back to the dog park. This could be stressful for some dogs when traffic is higher in the summer. It's truly just not enjoyable for me or my dog if there's more than one or two other people in the main yard. More often than not, humans and dogs end up clustering and clogging right by the entrance. This tends to result in doggie shenanigans and not enough actual running and playing. I've noticed that the humans tend to be less attentive or responsive to their dogs too, making it extra unpleasant. (Akin to letting your human toddler punch and scream at other children in the park so you can be on your phone and blowing off their parents when they tell you to watch your kid.) With more spacious options to choose from, I don't bother with this park. Unless it's an off time of day, the crowds that come here are just not worth it.

Like it's sister park, K9 Acres in Marion, the park is divided into sections for training, small dogs, and general play. We prefer Cheyenne for the winding paths through the trees. It's a little more secluded and peaceful, even if the rugby players are out. Our dogs love chasing each other through the wooded areas around the path and the shade the trees provide on hotter days. It seems to engage them a little better and tucker them out quicker ;) There's plenty of water around the trails and an occasional sled serving as a pool. They have some play equipment - seesaw, tunnel, bridge, hoops - in the general area.

We dropped the kids off at the playground - which looked amazing; I was tempted to play there myself lol - and we walked around the park for an hour or so. It is huge, and there is a lot of nature to admire. It was a bit confusing to find the entrance we needed since the park is so large. We turned into the wrong entrances a couple of times until her daughter's friend remembered enough to direct us on where to go to access the playground.

There's usually a handful of dog owners and dogs of all sizes on any given day after work. Watch out as you watch around, this is one of the messier parks we've been too. There's some people who unfortunately don't pick up after their dog. It could also use a few more lights in the area. It's not well lit in the evening.

There is a…read morelot that you can park in, and then travel down a path to a bunch of informational displays about the flood in 1993 that carved out this gorge, revealing all of the fossils. Then, you proceed down the path into a gorge, keeping an eye out for fossils. I saw a bunch of fossils on the bank to my right, before I even made it to the gorge. There were a few people scattered walking their dogs, although one group was actively looking to spot fossils and had the brochure from the Army Corps of Engineers about the different fossils present. All in all, this was a great spot to spend an hour walking around. I did see evidence that people have poached fossils from here, which is a shame. Look, but don't take!

Includes 4…read moredifferent dog areas: a small dog park area, a big dog area, a special needs dog area for training or dogs like mine that do not play well with others, and a wild "natural" dog area that is completely fenced in. I recommend wearing good hiking shoes in this area, as you kinda have to forge your own path through the thick bush. I was able to do it in sandles but I wouldn't recommend that. My Beagles are hunters and love this kind of a park...and since I'm a wild child I probably would do it barefoot if i had to, since these dog areas are rare and always make my heart sing. Good quality doggie bags provided, some shade and a picnic table in each area. The water fountain is in the common entrance area of the three parks, so that was a little different, but it was thought out well and works fine. There's a porter potty for humans and a small parking lot. It's within a forested area and away from houses or traffic. I think it was built on $62,000 of donations and that in itself is pretty cool!
