If you visit during low tide, make sure to walk across to the small island. It's a really unique experience, but be prepared because the rocks are much tougher to navigate than they look. I would definitely recommend wearing sturdy shoes as the uneven rocks can be slippery or uncomfortable. Whether you're there for the wildlife, the ocean views or simply a peaceful walk, Whytecliff Park is one of West Vancouver's hidden gems.

Mary is after only space for a few cars to park. But after a maximum of 10 minutes, depending on your fitness level, you arrive at a truly spectacular sight. The view of Howe Sound and the Straight of Georgia is beautiful and well worth the walk in. If you time you are arrival perfectly you will have one of the two really good spot at the end the trail to watch the sunset. It is a really romantic place for that. Is also an excellent place if you want to have a picnic or a family outing on a warm summer day as the breeze from the ocean made it quite cool.

The trees and greenery were absolutely beautiful and the weather was nice in July. Although the park has a few different trails within it, the lighthouse viewing trail only takes about 15 minutes to hike one way. The park is well kept as we saw staff on duty maintaining the foliage. This park is pet and kid friendly. Parking is metered so be sure to pay before you start hiking.

Last month I went to Cypress Falls Park for the first time with my hiking group. Cypress Falls…read morePark is described as an easy hike, but we were all surprised at some of the steep inclines. To be honest, I didn't particularly enjoy myself the first time due to the unexpected inclines -- while I am able to hike inclines, some members of my group were expecting an easier hike (as that was how it had been described in guide books and online) and found it too challenging. Also, the trails weren't well marked, so we ended up going on the wrong trail. We didn't get lost, but we did not end up where we were expecting, and as a result of the steep inclines and veering off course, we didn't see much of Cypress Falls Park. It wasn't a bad hike, but it wasn't one of my favourites. Because of the disappointing experience, I planned another hike at Cypress Falls Park a couple of days ago. Now that I was aware of the conditions, I was able to warn members of my hiking group that it was not super easy hike, and I brought my recently purchased hiking poles, which were very helpful. I had a much better experience the second time, and I had the opportunity to explore many more of the trails, so I felt like I actually got to see Cypress Falls Park. Cypress Falls Park is isn't big, and the guide books accurately describe it as a 1.5 hour hike. Including walking at a fairly slow pace, stopping for a break, and stopping to take photos and discuss the differences between lichens and moss, it took us 2 hours, and we purposely took our time to lengthen the hike. There's nothing wrong with short hikes, but the transit trip there is not worth it. There is one bus, the #253, that stops minutes from the trail head, but it only runs once an hour, and due to the winding route, what would be a 10 minute drive is over 30 minutes by bus (and this is why people hate transit!). And this doesn't even include the long transit trip to connect to the #253 at Park Royal Mall. Is Cypress Falls Park nice? Sure, but it's not long enough or challenging enough for me to transit 1.5+ hours each way. And the first time I went, we had to wait 45 minutes for the bus back, but the second time we thankfully had a driver who could drive us all back to Park Royal. In summary, beautiful hike, but very short and not challenging enough, and while technically transit accessible, it's a pain in the ass to get to by bus. I recommend Cypress Park Falls for people wanting a short, easier hike (but who can do a few short, steep inclines -- people with mobility issues would find it challenging), and who drive or can get a ride. Other things things to note: the only washroom is a disgusting port-o-potty in the parking lot. (Although not as disgusting as the port-o-potties at Lighthouse Park.) [Yelp collections: Hiking]

Hidden Gem in the middle of the city. What a find! Trying to…read morestay busy by discovering new parks around me and WOW! It does not feel like you are in the city at all as soon as you get here. Forest everywhere with a little river in the middle. There is a wooden walkway that leads you right into this magical place. To get to the walkways go all the way at the end of the park (closer to 22nd) and you will see the entrance. The walkway doesn't go through the whole park. It stays in a small section but you will not regret it! Only tip would be to maybe add a trashcan at the entrance.

Be sure to come early before the hordes arrive. The park is actually quite short. Can walk across it in just a few minutes. There is a picnic shelter, as well as a seawall walking area. John Lawson's house can also be seen here. No idea why they called him Navvy Jack. It's fenced off though. Hopefully they restore it one day. Worth checking out if one is already at Ambleside.

One of my favourite little spots is the pond along the edge of the beach, where I've spotted beautiful swans. It's the opposite of the busy seawall and a perfect place to watch nature. I especially love the nighttime here where you get to take in all the glory of the Lions Gate Bridge and the sparkling lights of the city. Ambleside Beach is a rare place that somehow still manages to make you feel peaceful in the middle of a very busy city.

nice cool breeze, squeals of laughter, a spray park, plenty of seating, public washroom, and a…read morelegit coffee shop. this, right here, is summer. there are two small 'in ground' trampolines, slides, a hammock swing, cushioned asphalt, and suspended netting, all inviting for big and small kids to play, explore, hide, or even have lunch. located on the corner of richards and smithe, this park is an oasis in the heart of downtown vancouver. it's further enhanced by a locally roasted coffee shop, kafka's, that serves all day breakfast, lunch, baked goods, and seasonal soft serve ice cream. it's evident that a lot of thought, planning, and investment has gone into this urban development. it's innovative, sustainably designed, and thoughtfully integrated into the community.
