FYI they refer to it as "Cam." This place is huge and I felt so cosmopolitan walking through the hospital. All of my experiences here -- to see a couple of specialists and to get some imaging -- were good. I don't know whether the cafeteria I visited was the main one or a minor dining establishment, and I can't describe where I was, but the transition time between breakfast and lunch couple have been better. I wish more of the offices validated parking fully. Only one did. The others did at 50%. read more

I always find my medical specialist at CAM. It is good to have in St. Louis. Parking and the PAYING FOR PARKING, can often be challenging. My specialists are excellent. A great attribute: live music is often performed in the lobby. It is wonderful to hear music that takes one away from the medical problems that brought you here. read more

Then they allowed my husband to stay with me while I waited to go back to the OR. My doctor explained everything so incredibly well and I had every confidence in her to do an incredible job. My nurse was amazing and helped me through the prep process knowing full well of my vasovagal syncope issues and she managed it like a champ. I went to see Emily Myers NP yesterday. The experience was terrible. First, I made an appointment with an MD because I wanted to see an MD. They called to cancel and reschedule it later. That's how I ended up with an NP. She could see me sooner. The experience was traumatic and dehumanizing. It was yesterday and I am still crying. I don't want to go back. I am considering risking my health and avoiding preventative care like physicals because I can't face being treated that way again. I don't know what I would do if I actually got sick. Die? I would prefer it to how I was treated yesterday. read more

State of the art center for advance medicine! I have recently became a regular here and will continue to be. The center is very clean and beautiful inside. The information desk was super friendly and helpful. The people I'm the pre op center was another story. I had came here for pre op testing and it was just horrible. Ok, it wasn't that bad but I would expect the staff to be a little more professional. The girl that registered me was on her phone texting and eating chips. Texting ok, whatever. But eating and handing my ID and insurance card yuck. While I was waiting the other workers were chomping on chips too. I know people need to eat but isn't that what a break is for? Anyways, as I was waiting to be called on, there was a lady that went up to a guy and asked him if he was "such and such" and the lady was rude saying that she called him a bunch of times. Now if you been here before the waiting area is pretty bit and if they don't call your name out loudly, of course you're not going to hear your name being called but not only that about 95% of the patients were the elderly. Cut them some slack! So after waiting for about 45 mins, it was finally my turn and the lady that took my vitals and asked me some questions and left was super friendly. The next guy pretty much asked me the same questions. He was nice but asked/noted medication weird. Like he asked do I take any medications and I'm like no. He asked not even tums or Advil ever in your life? I'm like I've taken tums 2x a year and Advil like a handful of times. So he jotted that's down in my "list of medications" I take. I'm just like wth it's not something I take daily. After that I had to wait for the nurse. which he said she's almost done and right next door. Umm ok. Another hour went by and she hasn't been in yet. She came in and asked me basically the same questions again (3rd person) and some more. She was friendly but was coughing up a storm. Then finally another lady came in to take my blood. She poked her head in and asked me if I was who I am and I'm like Um yes. And she replied "good bc the other lady smelled like pee" -again majority of the patients are elderly and it's sId their caretakers or family do not take care of them well but that comment was unnecessary. So having that be my entire experience for pre op was a big thumbs down. read more

Note: Since WashU has such a monopoly on healthcare in STL I know this is like yelling into the wind. I'm using yelp as what seems like my only outlet to potentially have someone at the medical group see what horrible care and service they provide to their patients rather than to deter anyone from using them since it doesn't seem we have much of an option in this city. I could email the doctor I was trying to schedule with directly I would, but unfortunately they force you to go through these operators/admins who couldn't care less. This is NOT what top tier healthcare should be like. REVIEW/WHAT HAPPENED: I moved to STL from another state and have been really struggling to find healthcare that seemed anywhere close to matching the comprehensive personal care that I have come to expect and need for the number of chronic health issues that require daily meds. Like many - I live a 'normal' life when I have the appropriate healthcare, but without reliable and responsive care it can cause major issues for me. After a ton of research I found a doctor who I was really excited to scheduled with. From personal and professional recommendations it seemed like Dr. Maureen Lyons would be a great doctor. *This review is not for her - I never got to even schedule with her. This review is for the awful office. When I called to try to make my appointment as a new patient the woman who answered the phone responded with such an attitude you'd think I'd have called her personal number in the middle of the night. She snaps back without missing a beat (which tells me she couldn't even be bothered to look at a schedule), "okay, well that won't be until like May." I pause waiting for some type of follow up that doesn't come and then explain that I'm new to the area in need of a primary care doctor. That I have some chronic health issues I need medication for and cannot wait until May. She snaps back again, "Well she has no availability until May." (for reference - it's February 8th. That's THREE MONTH wait!) I was so disgusted with this woman's attitude I decided to just give up on seeing this doctor and find another office. In what world can you not get in to see your doctor for three months? This is supposed to be on of the leading medical groups in the country, yet you need to know three months in advance if you're going to need to see your doctor? I find it more believable that this admin who answered the phone just couldn't be bothered to do her job. The nasty tone, the snap back remarks without pausing for even a second because I'm sure she remembers ever single doctors schedule in the practice? Give me a break. I should have thought to ask her name but I was in such shock over how rude and short this woman was I just shut down. All I can offer if any management reads this is whomever you have answering the appointment line at 12:15pm on 2/8 is a miserable, rude, incredibly unhelpful woman who left me close to tears with her attitude, lack of empathy for the patient and total disregard for her job/those she's there to serve. She certainly didn't serve anyone but her own desire to get off the phone. I am utterly disgusted by WashU right now and will do everything I can to find a practitioner not in this medical group if I can given how they clearly do not care for patients. This place is great!! I had a tumor removed here a little bit ago and I truly can't say enough good things about the staff. The nurses are amazing, during pre op the three women I spoke with made me much more comfortable going into surgery. One specially told me something that will be sticking with me forever, "if you're gonna pray why worry, if you're gonna worry why pray." After surgery, the nurse watching over me was also amazing. Always making sure I was comfortable with warm blankets, water, the works. I came all the way from Dallas to have surgery here because a relative of mine knew my surgeon and he too did an amazing job. The scar on my head/neck is very clean and everyone who sees it is blown away. The entire Barnes Jewish staff made this scary experience much less intimidating. read more

I seem to come here a lot. My internist is here, my medical oncologist is here, I get mammograms here and see a few other specialists here. The Center is part of the Washington University Medical Center and an element of Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Restrooms are abundant, and everything I've seen is pristine clean. Signage is extremely helpful and up-to-date, especially considering the construction under way. Valet parking is available, if you don't want to play bumper cars in the garage. I always self-park in the garage and allow extra time, because there's always some driver gummin' up the works waiting for somebody to back out of a parking spot to snag it -- or just not knowing where they're going. Hey, everybody has a first time and a second time . . . Just allow extra time, or your blood pressure will go up. Going to the doctor. Blood pressure up. Not a good combo. Parking garage elevators will take you to level 3 for the bridge where you can walk over to the Center. On level 3 is an Information Desk, and they're always helpful, accurate and friendly. Across from the Information Desk is a department/doctor directory. Elevator waits can be frustrating, but it's just a matter of volume and making way for the wheelchairs. There are express elevators to specific floors of the Siteman Cancer Center. Also on the "way" to the elevators are the pharmacy, vision center, radiation and gift shop. Most departments/doctors validate your parking ticket (no stamp) by giving you an extra ticket. It's blue. All tickets have an arrow on them, indicating which way to put the ticket in the machine to pay for parking. And you ALWAYS put your parking ticket in first -- NOT the blue ticket from the department/doctor. The blue ticket goes in last. Cash or credit cards are accepted. Last time I visited (June 27), I dropped my dad-gum parking ticket between the console and passenger seat. I COULD NOT worm it out. Heck, I couldn't even see it. After pondering this dilemma, I figured that over the years, some other dumbass has done something similar. So, I just went to the Information Desk, explained the predicament and she sent me to the first floor, Valet Parking Desk, where I was issued a fresh parking ticket. Level 3 of the Center is connected to the entire Medical Center with walkways and bridges. They're all enclosed, so inclement weather is a non-issue. read more

While The Department of Gastroenterology is a great medical facility, there are some issues with staff members that affect patient care. There are many doctors practicing here but I saw Dr. George Christophi. He seemed kind and caring but the lack Of communication was an issue. There are a few nurses here that are argumentative and rude. They are quick to make one feel dumb for asking questions, they speak to paitients as if they are children that need scolding. Worst of all, their lack of follow up affected my care. The entire support staff needs an overhaul. So pleased to have made the decision to change doctors. read more

After being in immense back pain last week and seeking medical advice, my doctor sent me to get x-rays. The clerk at the front desk was helpful and easily explained how to get to where I needed to go. Be careful with this provider. They will not abide by the contract that they have with your insurance company, and will charge you the difference between what the insurance company negotiated, and the full cost. This is NOT allowed by the contract with the insurance company, so they will mislead you and tell you that you can't have the (hearing aids in my case) unless you cover the remaining amount. You can push back against these people and get what you want with respect to your insurance. DO NOT GET RIPPED OFF BY THEM! read more

First, I was scheduled for an MRI back in June. I had to take time off work without pay to have this done. They told me to be there an hour and a half before because of the prep it required. I was in the waiting room alone for 2 hours and by the time they called me back I could not stay another 2 hours for prep and exam, so I had to reschedule. I rescheduled this and told them I wanted the first appointment of the day. They scheduled me for 7:15 a.m. and told me to be there at 5:45 a.m. for the prep. This required me to get up at 4 a.m. to get ready and drive as I live an hour away. When I got there and went to the MRI suite they told me I had to go back to registration to register as they were starting a new process. Registration did not even open until 6 a.m. After I was registered they told me I could not go back to MRI because they did not open until 6:30. I told them I was not sure why they told me to be here at 5:45 then because they acted like I needed to start the prep at that time. After waiting in the registration area for a bit someone from MRI came up and told me they should have never told me to wait there. They should have sent me back to MRI, then proceeded to tell me that they should have never scheduled me for that type of test that early in the morning because of the prep it required. However, they went ahead and did it. Second, after the test when I was leaving the garage the parking voucher Registration gave me for parking did not work. It kept rejecting it. I kept trying to find a call button on the exit station but the buttons were so faded I could not find it. I just decided to pay my $5 because I just really wanted to get home as they gave me medicine during my test that was making me extremely nauseous. I went to put in my original ticket I received when I entered the parking garage and it kept rejecting it as well. I finally just put my debit card in and it spit out another ticket telling me it charged me $15 for a lost ticket (which I obviously did not lose). I was only parked there for 2 hours and 15 minutes and was charged $15, and then the gate still would not open to let me out. I finally got a hold of someone who opened the gate for me, but they pretty much cut me off and acted like they could care less that nothing was working and that obviously there were issues. The next week I was down here and stopped by to tell valet about this. They told me I was charged $15 because I pressed the lost ticket button. Once again, I didn't press a lost ticket button! It automatically spit a lost ticket receipt out to me because it kept rejecting my original ticket. I even presented my original ticket to them and the ticket that registration gave me proving I did not lose it. I was pretty much dismissed and they said they could not do anything about it. I'm sorry but $15 for 2 hours and 15 minutes, this is extortion! Just overall an extremely bad experience with this place all around. Communication between scheduling, registration and the MRI department definitely needs improvement, and customer service in general needs work. read more
