Then you need to make sure they're enjoying doing it. Lastly, you need it done right. It's a skill. Philabundance clearly understands this and has the entire process mastered - from check in to departure. I arrived to work with a group of colleagues from my company. The volunteers have their own parking spaces and their own sign in and waiting area. Cleverly they have these little kiosk things that allow you to use your credit card and make an instant donation that adds to a total for your group. Nice. Tables, chairs, clear lockers for storing personal goods, heavy coats along one wall for those working in the refrigerated area. We had a brief orientation where they talked about the mission of Philabundance, then we were split into two projects. I was on a project making up food boxes for elderly people in need. They reviewed what each of us did and we were off. The boxes came along a conveyer belt and we all had stations. I kept thinking of the "I Love Lucy" episode and smiled to myself. We worked a total of 3 1/2 hours with a 20 minute break halfway through. We made up our goal of boxes - 600 - and helped the other team package pints of milk in the cooler area when we were done. Group photo on the way out, and we were leaving feeling accomplished and happy. They were professional, friendly and very organized. Impressed.

Moving to Bucks county I've become a huge thrift store fanatic, as there are many of them within 30…read moremins north or south. Sunday Bfast Rescue is one of the ones that started off kind of shabby and now has expanded and redone the whole place to really compete with the likes of AIDS thrift in South Philly or any thrift store found in the Lower East Side in NYC. They are easy to spot on a corner right next to Coffee Cup Cafe (hit them up for bfast first), there is always plenty of meter parking righ up front. Upon going inside you will find clearly sectioned areas for everything in your home to personal items. I think some thrifts are better known for certain things over others, I personally come here for homegoods and furniture. Most of the things are pretty dated, but in great condition and for excellent prices. This is the kind of place that if you know your way around antiques you could find a few treasures. Aside from homegoods they have plenty of clothes, sporting equipment and curtians etc. The best part is that unlike the larger Impact thrifts around where you have to wait for a special day of the week for a sale, here EVERYDAY they have a sale going on. Depending on the color of the price tag, you can take anywhere from 20-50% off! I personally found a carpet stain removing machine for $5 and tons of party decorations for pennies. They always have very friendly customer service too. Another added bonus is that they take credit cards and all your money helps to fund charity needs. Needless to say, I pop in and out to check out what new things they have, you should too.

My NP takes a lot of time to hear what's going on with me personally as well as lets me ask a ton of questions. Because of her care, she has figured out lurking issues and also collaboratively developed some really effective treatment plans with me. Also, Becky is knowledgeable about insurance (surprisingly rare for PCPs), which has helped my wallet a lot. The administrative staff and infrastructure are also really good and thoughtful. Mazzoni's online platform is great, and the team is highly responsive. I also love the way you get called into your check-up room once you're there. The buzzing disc system (like what restaurants use) helps protect people's privacy. Finally, the clinic is such an inclusive environment. I appreciate that they have their values hung on the wall of the center. The only things I wish Mazzoni had were more appointments (maybe on the weekend?) available and an answering service so you could call and make appointments outside of when staff are taking calls at the clinic. In short, everything about this place is caring and helpful. My PCP has gone above and beyond. P.S. they were great in helping me navigate insurance, too!

They make it easy to donate online http://www.projecthome.org/donate/, so you can do it often - you don't have to hurl over $100 at a time. They also have a great website dedicated to telling you all about their work, and publish a newsletter about the people they help. Men, women and children really have a voice, and these people really care. This is a great place to do your holiday shopping. This year because of the snow (it would have cost $100 to FedEx just before the holidays), and total lack of feeling like shopping for another craptastic gift, I opted to send my family members a note that said I gave such and such amount in your honor. Project HOME shoots you an e-mail immediately, so you can gift very quickly and easily. I think my mom was mad at first, but then she really loved it, and I bet next year I'll get something similar - instead of two pounds of See's candies... ugh. Also, they are always looking for volunteers, and have job positions open all the time!

I'm reaching out to bring attention to a serious case of child neglect at Community Concern #13…read moredaycare in Philadelphia. My 3 year old nephew has attended this daycare for almost a year. On Thursday, October 2nd, he came home with a broken collarbone and no one was ever informed by the staff that he was hurt until pick up at 5pm. When asked what happened, his parents was told excuses, lies, and accusations that my nephew was lying. He's repeated the same story since the incident. After seeing footage, it was confirmed that he was injured around 10:30 a.m. and told at least five staff members he was in pain for over an hour. Instead of helping, one teacher called him a "baby" for crying and brushed him off. Another teacher tried to comfort him but after a few minutes was forced to get up and told again "to stop acting like a baby." That same teacher later admitted to rotating his arm multiple times, claiming he was fine in which he wasn't . He was picked up six and a half hours later, he was slumped in a chair, running a fever, could barely move, and cried when touched. My nephew suffered  all day, and the daycare failed to seek medical attention. The staff have not been held accountable and only told to "follow protocol next time." His pre-K teacher, showed no concern for my nephews well being. This is unacceptable, and I believe everyone deserves to know how this daycare handled my nephews injury. I hope you can help bring attention and accountability to this situation.

And they don't heat lunches. They told me the day before I was to bring my son there. The teachers seemed really sweet. The turnaround I feel is bad. The administration is DISORGANIZED. How do you send an email Friday afternoon before a holiday asking if your child will be attending the following Monday- because some teachers wanted time off????? Please run from this place. As fast as you can. The administrators are crooks and they seemed to have an "attitude". I didn't want my child mistreated because I would not fall for a scam. They knew I was desperate...but not that desperate. Please look elsewhere.

Families who stay here have access to a large kitchen filled with donated foods, a gym, lodging, gaming room, shuttle services, indoor/outdoor playgrounds and so much more. It's a beautiful home, the environment is very warm and inviting. In the midst of dealing with medical problems, the Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable environment for families I'm still researching info regarding the Ronald McDonald House and I'm certain I will update this review with more info. Just a note, this was the very first Ronald McDonald House :)

I volunteered here as part of a University program for a year, and it was one of the most rewarding and eye-opening experiences in four years of school. You'll never meet more dedicated, warm-hearted individuals than at this place, and you'll certainly appreciate people, and everything they have to offer, a lot more after. You don't need to dump ice water on your head to make a difference here though, just maybe consider reaching out to them about food, clothing, or financial donation options next time you're feeling altruistic and want to help your community.
