Family member had to change pain management doctors due to insurance. She has been with the new one for close to a year. Since the new place was absorbed by APC it has been a miserable and PAINFUL experience. She has been without a needed medication for almost 3 weeks while fighting a potentially life threatening infection. Have called the number at least 50 times and get sent to voicemail, never a return call. They actually answered yesterday and said the medication would be ready by end of day, it was not and still isn't. Went to the office last week about this issue and couldn't speak to anyone besides the front desk due to "policy". This is incompetence, medical negligence, and mal-practice. Will be contacting the states attorney and a personal one for action. This "consortium" acts and feels like a complete scam with no regard for patients. read more

Dry office, wait time for doctor Bush is 1-40 min and 1-50 min. Dr Bush do not care about patients .

Communication with staff and/or doctor is almost impossible. Phone messages, texts go unanswered. Scheduling a procedure took one month of unanswered phone messages and texts. Appointment with Dr. Dorwart was changed to a NP which was OK but would have liked to have been notified of the change prior to walking into the office. Time spent with the NP was approximately less than 10 minutes for which I was charged the full doctor's fee. Tests that she ordered and the results have not been posted nor have Xray results been posted. And this is two months after being done at this appointment. Really disgusted with this organization. Dr. Dorwart was competent but the functionality of the organization is reflecting on him. read more

Do NOT go to this place! My wife was a long-standing (many years) patient of Dr. Gordon. Last Tuesday, she saw a nurse practitioner she had never seen before (in place of Dr. Gordon). The NP's name is Keiona Waller. NP Waller apparently doesn't know or doesn't care that the directions "every 8 hours (q8h)" on my wife's medications is NOT the same as "3 times a day (TID)". (My wife is a retired pharmacist, and she DOES know the difference.) NP Waller could not admit her error, and decided my wife was "rude, disrespectful, and demanding", and apparently got Dr. Gordon to drop my wife as a patient. Neither Dr. Gordon nor anyone else asked for my wife's side of the story. The moral is: If you want someone without a god-complex, and who will listen to you, you are better off seeking care elsewhere. read more

I didn't end up seeing a provider based on all the reviews. When I was called to schedule they used the name American Pain Management, and didn't mention that the name was different. Office staff were rude and did not give me all the information I needed. I had to call back to ask if they were actually American Pain Consortium because that's the name everywhere else and she informed me that that was correct. I asked if all the providers names in the review were still with the practice and was informed they are all still there. I told her I'll not be establishing care. She assured me it was cancelled and to call back if I changed my mind. I have trouble sleeping because of the pain, and was woken up by an automated call asking me to confirm my appointment. I called back and got a different and even ruder employee who had a massive attitude problem. It isn't my fault the person yesterday couldn't do their job, but that seems to be what this practice is known for; people not doing their jobs. Save your time. If this is just how the office staff respond then this practice is exactly what everyone says about it. Also, no, no one even once tried to tell me the reviews were wrong. Do not see Dr. Bush, she was late and very late and unprofessional and when she finally entered the room she rushed through the questions, took my vitals and did not really be concern about my pain and since she was already behind she only spent 10 mins with me, and sent me on my way, my PCP put in an order for me in August 2024 and I wasn't seen until December 2024 and it wasted my time, I asked to be transferred to another provider and Dr. Bush would not release me so basically I am stuck with a provide that is no help. read more

Been a patient here for awhile. Looking at the other reviews. I can verify alot is true. My issue is the billing department today. I've had the same two insurances. Since I started here. Over a year ago now. They pick and choose. When they want to bill both insurances. Making me have past due balances. I shouldn't have because their incompetent. Sent one to a collection agency. That I know nothing about. You'd think they'd get it right. But no they don't so now. I have to sort it out. Billing isn't in the building. I was told today it's in Carmel. Which I called left a message. For the supervisor and none. Have bothered to call me back yet. Since they couldn't get one. On the phone when I called in. Makes no sense when I called before. About this same issue was told. It was handled and it wasn't at all. Onething I've dealt with the long waits. Good providers I've had here. Two have left which I hate. Dealt with the rudeness. From the providers here also. The amount they charge per visit. You'd think they'd be happy. To see a patient. No haven't found a pleasant one yet. Since the last provider. They don't care if you wait an hour. Which shouldn't be ok. Since the longest I've had them. In the room with me. Is about 12 minutes if that long. So how they get over an hour behind. I can also highly recommend trying an SCS device. The parts that earned the one star are extremely important ones. First: HIPAA - So many compliance issues to count. At best the upstairs sign is mediocre at HIPAA compliance. However, upstairs the elevator has been down for three or four weeks and a makeshift sign-in desk is now flat out in the foyer with zero means to comply with strict HIPAA privacy requirements. The sign-in area and waiting room inside the Special Surgery Suite are all-inclusive. When someone signs in unless using the written word on paper or phone, it is next to impossible not to hear every detail of a patient's information. I share what I experienced below. The solution to these is unfortunately not an easy fix or low cost. In cases of noncompliance where the covered entity does not satisfactorily resolve the matter, OCR may decide to impose civil money penalties (CMPs) on the covered entity. CMPs for HIPAA violations are determined based on a tiered civil penalty structure. Every bit of my sign-in information could easily be heard by anyone in the waiting area. HIPAA issue. I was handed a clipboard of paperwork, and that was when I ASKED what my out-of-pocket cost will be. The secretary hurriedly called the billing department to get an answer. I signed in just prior to 12 PM that day and asked after I signed in on the day of my surgery... TRANSPARENCY OF BILLABLE GOODS AND SERVICES. At 39 minutes prior to my going back for surgery, the secretary tells me from across the room what my possible out-of-pocket cost would be. I felt put on the spot, and my family was present I felt I would let her down if I decided to cancel things, just minutes from my surgery. Surprise Billing Practices. HIPAA issue again. Not to mention overhearing another patient sign-in also. Could not avoid hearing it all without earbuds or headphones. HIPAA again. FTC - HHS - CMS - If Applicable The Joint Commission - IDOH these are some of the places to report issues like these. They cost no money to use, and while not able to get a monetary reward, they are the biggest chance to fix these issues for everyone. I went to the clinic yesterday for my first appointment at this clinic and my very first appointment at a pain clinic ever. The young lady at the front desk was very nice, professional and helpful. After filling out the paperwork I was called inside by a nurse that got my vitals. The nurse was very nice, she asked the questions needed of me. She was professional and kind and took her time getting my details as I had many. She never rushed which is a def plus. Shortly after she was done the PA I was scheduled to see came in, we discussed the issues I was having, she was knowledgeable about things that many doctors I encountered in the past did not know, so I was impressed. She took her time listening to me and informing me of my options. I went there very anxious because I had been in pain for weeks and did not know what to expect. All of the staff I encountered were wonderful and I had a very positive experience. I even got a call from them the next day to let me know that they had contacted my insurance about an issue and gave me an update so I can get my medication. I really appreciated that. Very impressed and very thankful to everyone there. A note to future patients, especially the ones inclined to leave 1 star reviews, be nice to the people taking care of you, they are people and being nice to your healthcare workers will make them not only do their job to their best but go above and beyond to be helpful to you too. I would not recommend. I was scheduled for a new patient consultation 8/25/20. I had high hopes someone would be able to help with my pain. After showing up 15 minutes early I waited for 70 minutes after my apt time and then I left. They called me 15 minutes after leaving saying the doc was ready for me. I have unfortunately had to go to a pain management clinic. I also have had to go to a couple different clinics before I found the right one for me! I also found the perfect providers... Dr Bush and her NP Caroline! They are constantly working to find what will work best for you! They care not only about what brought you to them, but how that effects your daily life! I have heard some complain that Dr. Bush runs a little behind, which is true. But it is because she is truly figuring out what is best for you. If your in a hurry make sure you make your appt early in the morning and if you can't plan that it will take a bit longer. When you can't get in with Dr Bush, Caroline is the best second option! I know for some they don't like having to come in every month. They just want refills. Well I believe that is irresponsible and I am grateful they do not do that! I've been coming here for about a year or so. I started off seeing Dr. Westlund and now see Dr. Gordon and his NP Kristin. All of them have been amazing. I had been to 2 other spine specialists before getting into here and my new spine doctor. I've seen other reviews saying they push pills but I don't feel like that was the case for me. In fact, quite the opposite. They did some injections the other doctors had done initially but as a requirement to fulfill for a different procedure and that procedure was a game changer. The other doctors never even presented it as an option. They fought for me with migraine meds but when I've brought up the migraines to other doctors none of them listened. DO NOT SEE DR. BUSH. She does not look out for her patient's best interests. She is unprofessional and more concerned with billing for procedures than treating patients appropriately. I was her patient for almost a year and wish I had listened to my instincts and found a different provider after my first appointment. Instead of referring me to different specialists that could help my condition she did trigger point injections until she said I needed a bundle branch block, essentially killing the nerve instead of taking care of the problem that was causing my pain in the first place. I trusted her as a provider and thought it was the best option. Since that time I've come across SEVERAL doctors and medical providers that do not think highly of Dr. Bush and have had professional issues with her. People with chronic pain deserve so much better. The day of my procedure was horrendous. I wasn't able to speak with Dr. Bush prior to being medicated and was unable to ask important questions and update her on a recent appointment with a different doctor. The center for special surgery seemed as much of a patient mill as this office. I was treated poorly because I wanted to speak with my provider and was causing hiccups in the schedule. Long story short I became very uncomfortable and felt unsafe. I tried to communicate with the staff and Dr. Bush multiple times what my concerns were. I was met with, "you can't talk you're moving too much", "you can't cry you're moving too much", and "you're on medication you don't remember things clearly". Well I clearly remember I wanted to withdraw consent and was instead given more sedation meds for "being an unruly patient" per Dr. Bush. Since this was during COVID I was alone and afraid. I had no one advocating for me except myself. Post procedure the nurses forced me to talk with Dr. Bush after I repeatedly said, "no, I do not want to see her right now". When she did come in the room she looked at her fingernails and said, "what seems to be the problem Ma'am" as if she didn't know me and I wasn't her patient for a year. She rolled her eyes and sighed throughout the conversation. Nurses and staff outside my room were discussing the incident as if I wasn't right there and other patients weren't able to hear. Sensitive information is NOT protected at this surgery center as the staff are gossipy and unprofessional. I heard them talking about and even laughing at patients for their questions and concerns postop. I ended up asking to leave because this was not a safe space for me. No one ever called to follow-up on how I felt after the procedure or assess for complications. The only call I received was 9am the next day saying I was released as a patient due to trust issues with my provider. This practice has the majority of pain management doctors in the city. I was dropped without a referral or medication refills (not opioids/narcotics/any controlled substance). I have requested my medical records via their medical records department and sent in an ROI. Originally I was told "they're still charting on your procedure" but was assured the records would be sent as soon as they were done. This was months ago. I have left messages and have gotten no response. I believe this is a HIPPA violation. I have been advise by several lawyers and doctors, both professional and personal relationships, that Indiana draws a lot of providers because malpractice insurance is low and patients hardly ever win a malpractice suit. One lawyer even said, "it's a fox guarding the henhouse" situation and the doctors overseeing malpractice cases almost always side with the doctor in Indiana. While it seems I can't do anything for myself in this situation I can at least share my experience and hope others don't fall into the same awful care I did. Know your patient rights, get second opinions, ask every question, and ask for a new doctor if you're uncomfortable. read more

Zero rating if I could! I had been a patient there for several years. I also had the issue mentioned earlier with my first appointment. I sat for a good 80 minutes or more waiting to be seen. I was "assigned" to Ted Westlund PA. Immediately, Mr. Westlund stopped one of my medication only to increase my opioid dosage. His reasoning "you don't take both of these together". What a long acting pain medication with a small dose of opioid for break through pain. This was not what I was coming here for, I wanted an alternative to the opioids that was the whole point of going to this office. After doing a simply steroid injection that cost literally thousands of dollars compared to just a hundred or two at the rheumatologist and the orthopedic offices. And MRIs at THEIR facility also had an extremely inflated price. There were no others procedures he could come up with for my issues!!! Just opioids. Pills. Pills. Pills. As for Ted Westlund as a practitioner......bedside manner and professionalism are horrible. After my first surgery I had post operative issues and called this office and left multiple messages. Do not expect a response!! Got ready to have a second surgery and wanted to discuss "his pain management plan" for post op since I had issues with the first surgery. All I got was some analogy regarding his male anatomy size and my female anatomy size!!!! This was completely unprofessional and very humiliating especially since I was having surgery on my FOOT. With my third surgery same thing had issues tried to call the office and left multiple messages. NO response! My surgeon tried calling as well as the ER staff.......no response!!! When this was addressed at my next visit with Mr.Westlund, I was kicked out of the practice!!! Mr.Westlund has a plan set for you and that plan is NOT to be deviated for any reason according to him. His arithmetic skill are first grade level at best. When a error had been made he "is not about to discuss this!" It's his way or the highway. Just FYI, beware and READ the other posts regarding this office! Don't let them bully you, better yet, find a different provider altogether!! You deserve better!! read more

This place ruined our lives. My significant other is now bent over, cannot function, and in serious condition. They gave shots, opioids, opioids, and opioids. Then used an old spinal stimulator that has not worked since installed three years ago. Please think twice, read reviews, go and listen to patients complain, look at patients look at their so called physical therapy room. They should not be allowed to practice medicine. Pass out pain pills rather than trying to treat the problem. I guess if you want to pay for prescribed opioids this is the place to go. I called one of the local stations as did a friend of mine who's sister was another victim. I needed so much backup information, I don't have the time to compile. Please please do your homework. They are getting rich from you and your insurance company. My spouse has suffered tremendously because of a doctor(once described by one of the other doctors there) as so shaky he shouldn't have been allowed to hold a knife for years. read more

Those giving poor reviews because they couldn't get enough of the pain medications they wanted and needed (higher dose opioids, certain muscle relaxers, benzo's), please understand that all doctors' hands are tied! They are so afraid of the DEA, with good reason to be! At least they prescribe 90-100 MME's instead of cutting all patient's off cold turkey! Those are the doctor's to complain about. Sure, for those who have been on these medications for years, getting cut down to these low levels is extremely difficult and may even seem like it's as bad as getting cut off, but it could be worse. The CDC and FDA clarified the guidelines (April 2019), and told doctor's not to cut patients off cold turkey OR force taper legacy patients due to the problems it can cause with these patient's, and how the guidelines are for new pain patients, but I don't know any doctor who has listened to that because the DEA isn't listening to that - and continue raiding/arresting doctor's every day, even if they are prescribing less than what the CDC has recommended (the recommendations are for new, opioid-naive pain patients being treated by a primary care doctor - not a pain management specialist and NOT legacy patients). The DEA is mainly looking at their documentation and plan of care on patients being maintained on opioids, so doctor's need to be anal about this! They can't simply write, "no change" (or similar statements) each month! Oh and they have even arrested a doctor and charged him with fraud for requiring pain patients to be seen every month instead of every 3 months!! You just can't please the DEA (they want all the assets they can seize from wealthy, older doctor's, then they share it with other law enforcement officers involved in the case). Oh and it's not the doctors fault if physical therapy doesn't work. They must suggest other, non-opioid treatments to cover their butts! I look at the doctor's bedside manner, do they listen to me, do they at least pretend to value what I'm telling them, do they believe me, etc. Some doctor's need to become a chronic pain patient so they can see and feel what we are going through. I believe it would teach them some empathy which is something that ALL doctor's need - especially in pain management! I really like Dr. Fitzgerald (splits his time between all locations), and Jennifer Emmert NP (only at the Lafayette office). They are both compassionate and have empathy, but still must follow the rules of this practice. I have heard that Dr. Gordon is also very compassionate (splits time between locations). Some of the other's need to work on their bedside manner (no matter how skilled they are), however, I have never met Dr. Kim or Susan Snipes NP nor have I heard anything about them. If you are not happy about having your medications cut, PLEASE contact your senator's or other local representative! Preferably face to face! This is the only way to effectively advocate for change. Also, join Don't Punish Pain Rally (your state), and the national group on Facebook. Just search for this on FB. We educate the public and legislators about what's REALLY going on - not the propaganda they keep hearing from the media, that the DEA and certain lawmakers are feeding them! We also rally at key locations (with media coverage) approx. every 3 months and need everyone to stand up for their right to humane treatment for their pain! read more

Awful. It took almost 4 months to get in after they received three referals and never called me to set up an appt. The office is completely unorganized. I seen Dr. Kihm. He was a new doctor and completely clueless. He stereotyped me for having a tattoo (with my children's names who happen to be biblical). He then dropped me for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Yes, seriously! I went back to my family doctor who finally found the source of my problem. I have had much trauma to my back and multiple surgeries. Dr. Kihm did not believe me and totally dismissed me. Turns out I have a legitimate disease that has caused chronic pain. Dr. Kihm never caught it not tried to. I am very happy with my family doctor. He believes me, honest, and takes the time to listen. read more

if i could give zero stars i would. my experience was so bad that i have contacted a lawyer. jocelyn bush is a joke of a doctor. she walked in with hello kitty shoes and told me, a patient with a rare chronic illness and a degenerative disease in my spine causing chronic pain, that i was an idiot for listening to my doctors advice. she tried to intimidate me and stare into my eyes instead of talking to me like a normal human being. iim not sure if she's autistic, but she is pathetically bad at talking to patients. never in my life have i dealt with a doctor this incredibly rude. she told me the specialists i'm seeing are wrong, that my treatment plan was wrong. i'm sorry that she flunked out of medical school and isn't a real doctor but dont take it out on me. this is absolutely malpractice and she deserves to have her license stripped. she implied that i'm an idiot for listening to my many specialist doctors. i never asked for pain medication yet she heavily implied that i was an addict (although i haven't been prescribed or taken pain meds in 3 years since my major spinal surgery.) i would never refer anyone i care about to her, she is not a real doctor, just a pill pusher/prescriber. i have never dealt with a doctor with such little compassion. all she cares about is her paycheck. i can't believe a 20 something year old doctor with HELLO KITTY SHOES told ME that IM the idiot. my primary doctor recommended speaking to a lawyer since this is unacceptable so i have contacted one. she is a pathetic excuse for a doctor. Avoid this place. They had horrible business practices (example, when you check out after your appointment, they're supposed to make your next appointment for you right then, knowing you're in pain, that's why you went there and you'll need to be seen as soon as possible. They failed to do this for me, my 1st time there, even though the desk staff assured me later it's "standard practice" and "always done". So I had to wait weeks for my next appointment.) The doctor herself, Dr. Bush, was professional and I had no problems with her. I was also intrigued by her pain suggestion for me, an IV infusion of pain medication, never having heard of that technique before. So I was actually looking forward to my treatments there. But the rest of the staff I had to deal with by phone or in person were very unprofessional, constantly contradicting themselves, giving me different information than what was given before, not having any knowledge of what an 'open MRI' is in reality - mine would've been actually only 6-12 inches from my face above and would've had slatted sides that I could see through, but they would still block my way & would've been quite close to my face, etc. For a dyed-in-the-wool claustrophobic, that wouldn't have been possible for me to do awake. The receptionist actually told me "...it's open, most people are fine with it..." showing no knowledge, sensitivity or open-mindedness to the fact that not all claustrophobics are the same or have it to the same degree. I was constantly given the runaround, treated rudely, interrupted often, bulldozed over by the person speaking, etc. When I asked them to speak slower once, because they were throwing a lot of information, all new, to me at once, she said ".. I am speaking slowly..." and kept going at the same pace, showing no comprehension of how people absorb information differently, etc. And no apology or manners. At first I was very satisfied with my service and really enjoyed meeting with NP Caroline and Dr.Bush. It appeared as if they really cared. But recently, I was just notified, 5 days after my last visit, that they did not get my urine specimen from the month prior and no matter what I said, they did not believe me when I said I left it (NP Caroline asked me during my visit). I was dropped from their service like I was a criminal. I have never given them reason to believe that I was not compliant and was told to just find someone else and make what I had in meds stretch out until I seek treatment elsewhere (keep in mind, they had just given me a prescription). This was a bit devastating because the first thing you do after they get your BP, is walk you to the restroom and have you leave a urine specimen before they even take you to the examination room. If I did not leave a specimen, wouldn't someone bring this to my attention prior to giving me my prescription and me checking out? All I heard was policy....isn't that a part of policy? Never once did they consider that someone there made a huge mistake in misplacing my specimen. For the record, the specimen was left and someone on their staff made a huge mistake. What should have been done, was the specimen should have been sealed in front of me and initialed by me and the collector. I do not drink nor do drugs and NEVER have a problem with leaving a urine, heck they can take my blood...I have nothing to hide. I work long hours, I have had a series of 3 injections (their recommendations) I have complied with numerous request that they have made prior to even getting treatments and now I'm being told I'm a liar! Not only am I faced with disrespect, left with chronic pain, not wined off my meds, but having this on my records. I thought they knew me as a patient, clearly this is not a part of my personally and have never had a bad result when tested before. They have tarnished my reputation with this and now have shown no sense of caring about my health and what I am left to deal with. What about the oath they took as physicians? They are being bias, It's cruel and unusual punishment ... they profiled me, called me a liar, and anyone who has been put on any pain meds know that you will go through excess pain and withdrawals if not properly wined off your meds. Where is the care for patient in all of this including following the oath they took as physicians. It pains me to say all of this because I truly thought they had my best interest and cared for me as a patient. I was referred by another physician who hand carried the records to their office twice, and they claimed they never received them. Dr Prince badmouthed my past physician who was a great doctor and was completely needle happy. He wanted to inject my back even though this has never worked in over 10 injections by other doctors, and is completely opposed to pain medicines. This is ridiculous for a pain doctor to not want to treat pain but wants to do expensive and ineffective injections to line his pocketbook. read more
