Terrible customer service I was referred by eye doctor in the area to Dr. Shoemaker For a follow up as I am a melanoma and PVD patient. Upon calling this office to make the appointment, the receptionist was very rude telling me I could not see an ophthalmologist rather, I could only see an optometrist. That goes against the previous providers that treat me including Dermatology as well as ophthalmologist. Very strange that she could not schedule me with an ophthalmologist. Sounds like this practice is not for me or anyone else in my situation. And then she hung up on me- sad. read more

My first visit...exceptional first experience. Everyone was warm, friendly and helpful. It was Saturday morning ...another plus that I didn't have to miss work to see a doctor! Met with Dr. Nelson, who put me at ease immediately. Patient, thorough, and very informative. He helped me through my eye issues and gave me so much encouragement and thankfully a positive diagnosis. Waited over an hour past my appointment time to be seen by the doctor, it's impossible to reach anyone on the phone and they messed up billing. 6 months later I'm still trying to figure it out and they are not cooperating. I do NOT recommend this office. read more

I was lied to about what was covered before my cataract surgery. I was told that by refraction after the surgery was included. They mentioned glasses and I told them I do not and have not worn glasses. When they went to fit me for contacts they told me I would have to pay for a refraction since the one included was only for glasses. I was fitted for contacts when I went to order contacts though 1800 contacts I asked about biofinity contacts but they told me I was only approved for Total Monthly 30. I would have to get the doctor to change the brand. When I called to do that I was told the doctor said I would need another fitting even though it had been less than 6 months. I personally feel like they are just could care less about my comfort and eyesight and only care about how they can get more and more money. Pamela Bailey read more

I had to wait months for an appointment. I received a text that my appointment could be moved up sooner so I took it because I lost my glasses and really needed a pair. The new appointment was over spring break. I explained at check in that I had my kids all day, would be driving a lot, and would be at an outside event immediately after the appointment so I wanted to pass on the dilation, I just wanted the vision test so I could get new glasses. Plus, I wanted to pick out frames without blurry vision from eye dilation. The check in girl made a big deal about this and said I probably couldn't be seen without dilation and the provider could refuse me etc. it was very uncomfortable and I left. I called and spoke to a nice woman at the main office and she said that I am able to refuse dilation and still be seen for an updated glasses prescription. She said the office manager would reach out to me. She never did. read more

Wow, all I have to say is wow. My first appointment since I moved. I was greeted and everything went smoothly. They all took their time to exam me, I truly felt like I was taken care of. She was outstanding and knowledgeable. My doctor was great, very knowledgeable, kind, and VERy helpful. They helped with my glasses and sunglasses. I have a tough prescription and they handled it! Update: I have previously posted two reviews on this clinic. One was 4 stars and one was 2 stars. This one is 1 star. I had left eye catarack surgery in 2020. Left eye has turned out good so far. But when Dr. Hunt and Dr. Souza did the right eye, they screwed it up and it is worse now then when I first went in for level 2 catarack with new long distance lens inserted. They did not get all the gel that is created in the lens sac, and when I went back in for a followup after surgery, Dr. Hunt treated me like dirt. He must have been having a bad day, but that is not my problem. He acted like it was a terrible thing for him to have to go back in and zap the gel floaters left behind from the surgery. My eye is now worse then when I went in and I caution people to be very wary of Dr. Hunt and his temper tantrums. Should be medical malpractice. Left eye is still good after 2 years, but the right eye is gradually failing from day one after the procedure so it is on you Dr. Hunt for screwing up my dominate eye. It is constantly blurred, has gel sac floaters left over from the procedure that were left behind by Dr. Souza. All this clinic is interested in is the numbers. Getting as many people through the door and paid as possible. If you use medicare, be aware, medicare only pays for level one which is basically cheap. To get a higher level of corrected vision, you have to pay out of pocket for level two and above. Level two is over $3,000 out of your pocket as insurance does not pay for it. And it only goes up from there folks. I now have to live with a damaged eye do to these incompetent Doctors. read more

You wrote a review for Center For Sight 4 days ago 1.0 star rating 9/26/2020 I was referred to Dr. Hunt at the Center for Sight by my Optometrist office as they are closed down till Tuesday. I had a contact lens stuck in my eye for two days and knew that it had to be taken out as it was getting irritated. So I called and they gave me an appointment at 11:15, this made me happy. We got there at 10:30am as I had never been there but was impressed as the office is very nice. I filled everything out and waited till 11:15. I kept seeing people called in and thought that I would be next, NOT! So I asked the receptionist when would I see the doctor as it should not take but a few minutes to take it out. She said Dr. Hunt will be right with you as he is finishing up with a patient. That was at 11:25, so then they took me to a room and continued doing as eye exam. I said I only need my contact lens taking out, what are you doing. Then she put eye drops in. So I continued to wait. At 12:30 I asked someone if they had forgotten me, then she said Dr. Hunt will be right with you as he is finishing a patient. It's already been an hour and 15min. At 12:55 I was irate and in tears as I felt that if they could not do these why did they take me in. I walked out with the contact lens still in and they kept yelling come back he will be right with you! So my husband took me to Lens Crafter at UTC, he had called them. They said come right in, what a blessing. The doctor there came out, took me to the room, looked in my eye and took the lens right out. It took all of 2 minutes. I went to pay them and he said no charge!!! Wow! What a difference. Lens Crafters you will have my business for ever! I am still waiting to hear from Center for eyes and why they treated me like that. Was Dr.Hunt not knowledgeable in taking a contact lens out? read more

Beware. They will not ask you before the appointment if you want you vision "refraction" checked. Then a $50 charge will show up. Medicare does not cover it and they know this. Another way to charge. Refractions are only necessary every 2 years and you can reject every time if you have no need. read more

I was impressed with the girls in the reception area. Their energy was very welcoming, everyone is very pleasant. My tech (forgot name) was excellent and thorough with my exam. And Dr was great at calming my nerves about my concern for the drastic change in my eye sight. read more

Worst doctor's office experience. The university office doesn't know how to use phones. I ordered frames and they said 2 weeks and it's now been 5+. I try calling, they send me to voicemail 95% of the time (thank god it wasn't an emergency) and when they do answer they will just say 5-7 more days and they will call. I had an eye exam with because I wanted new contacts and frames + lense. After my eye exam I went ahead and ordered my own contacts through a different provider that was cheaper. I had an appt for a glaucoma test and when I show up they say "your insurance doesn't cover glaucoma", yet nobody could call to say that before I show up? They said there was a note to call but shocker nobody did since they don't know how to use phones. Apparently my "glaucoma test" then changed to a contact fitting when I never needed that and never told them I wanted a contact fitting. All of the appt confirmations they send ahead of time (about 10 which is ridiculously annoying) said I would have my eyes dilated and everything. So they wasted my time even going to their office today when a simple phone call could have avoided it. Overall this place is a joke and not very welcoming. I will not be going back. read more

I was an emergency walk-in as I'd accidentally left a soft contact in one eye for maybe 2 weeks. Of course, the eye was irritated and hurting. Dr Petrino did a thorough exam looking for damage or infection. He gave me detailed instructions on treatment and care. I appreciated their quick, friendly, and professional response. read more

I took my daughter here for an eye exam. The doctor was not helpful and actually quite rude when dealing with us. I was very disappointed and won't be returning to this location. I took both my grandma and mother to a different location for cataract surgery and had a great experience. I doubt I will use Center for Sight at any location after my experience today. read more

A floater turned into a PVD within 12 hours, covering 1/3 of my right eye. 12 hours later, it was still spreading and I needed to see an opthalmologist ASAP to determine if I was dealing with a retinal detachment. After an internet search for an opthalmologist, I phoned CFS because they opened early. They saw me mid-morning, kept trying to do an eye exam and I kept telling them I already have an optometrist (one whom I trust and have regularly seen for about 20 years) - I just needed an opthalmologist to look at the PVD. By then, it was covering half of my eye. Finally, Dr. Hamilton came in and claimed he couldn't see a tear in the retina. After the exam, I learned he wasn't an opthalmologist - he was an optometrist. When he brought me to check out, he asked that I see an opthalmologist that same day, but their retinal specialist wasn't available for over 2 weeks. I consulted MY optometrist via phone and he suggested I find an opthalmologist elsewhere because a detachment (which would require surgery to save sight in the eye) is most apt to occur within the first week. When I went back into the CFS office to tell them I couldn't wait, I was told the manager waived my co-pay. I hadn't asked for that, but since they acknowledged services rendered were not services requested, I suggested they don't even bill my insurance since I only went there to see an opthalmologist. The young woman said she would discuss the situation with her manager later. As it happened, I did see an opthalmologist elsewhere later that same day. His exam was MUCH more thorough than that of an optometrist and he said he needed to monitor the PVD during that crucial first week, so he saw me again 6 days later. So far, so good. In the meantime, I saw that CFS had billed my insurance company. Next, they sent me a bill for the co-pay and that prompted me to call their manager to complain. Beth Dixon is polite, as was everyone else at CFS, but claimed she never told the employee to waive my co-pay. She said she'd investigate the situation. In her voicemail, she said she listened to the scheduling call. She confirmed I asked if they handled retina detachments and asserted that I was told I'd have to see a doctor first. Well... Isn't an opthalmologist a doctor? Wouldn't an opthalmologist need to see me before potential surgery/treatment for a detachment? They certainly never told me I'd have to see an optometrist first. Had that been the case, I'd have gone to my own optometrist! So, in the end, their failure to communicate effectively and their failure to "hear" the patient led to what I feel is a bait and switch. I would highly suggest you seek a different practice if you're ever in a situation similar to the one I experienced. I certainly will never trust them with any facet of my eye care! read more

Dr. Hammond is thorough, knowledgeable, and a true professional. Recently when I needed glasses, she introduced me to Dan Moffa who helped me pick out both sunglasses and regular glasses. He is so patient. He explains everything thoroughly. He is an absolute pleasure to work with. He and Amie have made it a joy to go pick out my frames and help me adjust to progressive lenses after 25+ years of having mono-vision contacts and lasik correction.
