Washington Heights offers dance, porcelain, theater, painting, pottery, and children's art classes, among the many offerings at this hopping little cultural center. The building doesn't look like much either outside or in, but the instructors are consistently talented and accomplished, and the students have nothing but good things to say. If you have children in the Lakewood area, look into Washington Heights for summer camps where they'll have enough fun they'll forget that they're learning something, plus be out of your hair! For yourself, many adult arts and performing arts classes are held here- expand your horizons.

Went Wednesday night with a friend to "paint your pet". You…read moreemail them a photo of your pet, they sketch it on canvas, and you paint it! It's one of the best classes I've seen out there since the painting is so personalized. It's also a bit more expensive than other classes because of the extra work that goes into it ($50). I think this class is better suited for people who have painted a couple times, or more. Next time I'll try a class where we're all painting the same thing, so it's harder for me to mess up. When all the pets look so different, it's hard for them to help you mix paint colors and walk you through every step. Some of the paintings were AMAZING and you could definitely tell these people had inherent artistic skills. People were looking at mine and smiling politely... haha. My painting is no masterpiece, but it sorta-kinda looks like Izzy. My fiance laughed at it when he saw it, but it was the first painting I've ever done! The instructor was helpful, and she went around to everyone giving them pointers and tips. The class included a drink, and they had little appetizers (mini meatballs, cheese, crackers, grapes, peanut M&M's!!!!!, hummus). It's a really cute space, and a fun thing to do with friends. Definitely recommend! P.S. There is a garage with free parking right behind the studio.

It was a very relaxing experience, totally open-minded, and a lot of fun! Highly recommended to anyone in the greater Denver area for a visit to try the "open studio". I was surprised that the cost was so low when let you take your canvas with you, which is moderately sized. This would be an absolute blast to come with a group of ~10 people. They have a "paint your date/mate" night - where you can do a portrait of the person you come with. Sounds like a blast - I fully hope to get back there. Beer/wine is available for purchase too, at less than restaurant prices. My only complaint, is that it's hard to find. If you enter from the main street, there's minimal street presence. There's a small sign out front, so don't look for a large window near their address. You need to follow down a hallway before you arrive at the studio. I think it's possible to get there faster from the back side of the studio? Anyway - give yourself time when trying to find the studio. I was surprised to see that other reviews posted were less positive. Reaction to other reviews: --"better suited for someone with painting experience": I've never painted before, and was entirely not intimidated by the environment. I felt no qualms trying funky patterns! --"cancelled birthday party": this definitely sounds like a nightmare. My experience was very unstructured (dropping in to an open studio), so this was not a problem. The staff was very friendly and provided help whenever needed.

This is for the Lakewood location…read more Came here for the $35 beginner class. You will not be going home with a done piece; it is much more challenging than it seems. So much fun. You are given step by step instructions on how to prep the clay and use everything. If you want to get good you need to dedicate some time. They have many classes you can take as well as open studio time once you become proficient. Shhhh...
