I told her that my goal was to use the doctorate I recently earned from UMass. That is, I live by my mind. Ms. Bocker gave me a drug that causes brain shrinkage--irrevocable brain damage--for insomnia. The Washington post has a very excellent article which states that inexperienced psychiatrists sometimes give this drug for insomnia, and a lot of people have suffered for their incompetence. I almost suffered from Ms. Bocker's lack of experience and training, which she didn't even warn me about--she presented herself as something she isn't: She has delusions of actually being a psychiatrist. She's a nurse practitioner. This woman could have (and would have, if not for my care of myself and my research) made it impossible for me to ever work again, after I came to her in the hopes of being able to get a full time job soon. Whether this was incompetence or malice on Bocker's part, the result would have been ashamed. I should not have to go to someone I desperately need to trust only to find that this person was going to see that I damage my brain. I threw out what she prescribed for me immediately and I'm searching desperately for a doctor who won't think it's not a problem to damage my brain because I'm an attractive woman. I didn't like the vibes I got--I had the distinct feeling that Camille wouldn't have felt too bad if she damaged my brain. After all, I have a Ph.D. and she is a glorified nurse practitioner. I should not have to cope with concerns and questions like this when I'm crying with pain (from literally not sleeping for weeks). I need a real doctor that I can trust to some degree. If I had gone on trusting this woman, I may have lost much of what makes me who I am. I can think of nothing that better defines my personality than my brain, and I'm not going to jeopardize it because someone else has responsibility she shouldn't have, not without much, much better training. Since when are we treating glorified nurse practitioners like doctors? Especially doctors who have gone the extra four years for the psychiatric specialty.

This treatment facility doesn't even deserve one star. I have wanted to write a review for a year…read moreand half since my stay, but the trauma they caused still gives me panic attacks when I just think about my stay there. As a 20+ year sufferer of bulimia and a veteran of the Marine Corps, it is important others know about this place before deciding on inpatient treatment. This is NOT the place if you are over 30, a veteran, have PTSD or any other mental issue or addictions besides anorexia. If you are looking for treatment, you know the struggles of your coping mechanisms being taken away. The staff is not sympathetic to this. The head psychiatrist changed my meds drastically and never consulted with my VA treatment team. I know this because my VA psychiatrist and therapist told me they put in numerous calls and emails with no response from Renfrew. I also called my team repeatedly asking for them to confer with Dr G at the center and Renfrew never did. Unless your family is there, there is no family conference calls or family therapy. They don't even offer unless your family travels. (THIS PUTS A STRAIN ON LOVED ONES LIKE MY HUSBAND who is working to pay bills while I am not working). I had a hard time and after an incident with some flashbacks, med change issues and PTSD ( and a DAY after the incident), I was sent to the office, humiliated, not allowed to talk to my husband or therapist, handcuffed by the police.. who took me to sit for hours, alone at the nearby hospital psych unit. They didn't even TRY to contact or find a VA hospital. That caused a lot of problems in billing and follow up care which I am STILL dealing with! There are so many other problems and issues I don't even have the ability to describe without having a breakdown from the memories. I found excellent help at RIVER OAKS in New Orleans last May. River Oaks offers treatment and groups run by College Degree professionals in their field. Renfrew has mostly interns running their groups. River Oaks also does family therapy twice a week via Conference call. They were in communication with my VA team weekly. They were so kind and caring and are a facility able to handle patients of all ages and co occurring disorders and addictions. I had trouble with the outpatient facility in Nashville, Tn Renfrew also. They put me and my VA treatment team through unneeded stress and time. Please consider your options carefully when deciding on inpatient treatment! Renfrew is not the caring kind place it promotes itself to be.

During a recent visit, the PA/Nurse was curt when I raised and expressed the need for review of other related issues. She mentioned it was a follow-up appointment and that those issues were not part of the visit, and she would need to consult the doctor for further review. The point is that the issues were directly related to the follow-up need. Despite needing only 30 minutes, I received pushback, and the doctor seemed annoyed when I asked questions and expressed concerns. This made me feel as if I were being talked down to and treated like a child ultimately the visit was rushed when there was no reason to do so. I was on time and their was no fault on my part and when I scheduled I noted exactly what the need was. I understand that being a practitioner is challenging, especially in a teaching institution, but it is never acceptable for a provider to show the disdain that this provider showed. I will seek healthcare elsewhere and caution others that the care provided by UCF lacks quality, compassion, and care.
