I was taken to the cath lab where they discovered several blockages (50%, 70% and 99%). Ended up having a triple bypass. The second time they scanned me and found a 12 cm cancerous tumor on my liver. They took the entire left lobe. I am alive today after 2 close calls that could have turned out very differently if the folks at RWJ Hamilton hadn't taken the initiative to delve deeper. A special thanks to nurse Jennifer Wood who refused to let me go home to shower

Think twice before coming to the ER here. There are plenty of other hospitals in the surrounding…read morearea and next time I will go to one those hospitals. They have a racket going with the way they bill for services. I went to the ER one morning because i was experiencing chest and abdominal pain. The pain subsided shortly after I arrived and was put in a room. The doctor came in and explained that I would be there for three hours because i would need my blood work checked twice and spaced three hours apart to make sure it was not a cardiac issue. Sounded reasonable to me until I received my bill. I was not only charged for the ER visit but the doctor who I only saw twice (once for triage and then to release me) charged me an additional code for a high level of care. there was nothing high level or out of the ordinary of a regular ER visit done. As a matter of fact my husband who was with me had to remind them that i was due to have blood drawn again. I also have a friend who had a similar experience with chest pain and has the same insurance plan who was seen at a different hospital and was only charged the ER copay. It is really disgusting how the doctor can get away with up charging for services i did not receive. Needless to say I (or anyone in my family) will never use them again!!!

If you need same day help with your cardiovascular system, cataracts and/or compulsive eating disorder this is where you come in a very modern, non-hospital setting. Since my Primary Care doctor is affiliated with Capital Health this is where she invariably sends me for an oil change and transmission work which is always performed in an efficient and professional manner although the sheer size and one stop shopping aspect of the facility is almost too modern and bloodless for my lingering notions of medical nostalgia. However, these types of integrated, large scale operations are the present and future of CFO driven medicine and are known by many different conglomerated names around the country and as a consequence, they do have significant drawbacks. First and foremost, they are creatures of convenience and may not be the most cost-effective option whatever your insurance. Call your insurance carrier and see if there are other more cost-effective providers in the areas, and don't fall for the "we don't know what it's going to cost until we submit the bill." They know, because they can submit it on a test basis beforehand... meaning you could save hundreds in out of pocket costs if their clerical staff bothered to break a sweat. Second, even if the facility is approved by your insurance, not all employees are. Sure the ultrasound may be covered but the technician or physician who performs or reads it may not be, perhaps resulting in separate bills from individuals you never heard of. Ask questions upfront and insist that out of network employees be excluded. It's a pain in the ass but you could easily vacation on the savings. Take it from someone who has been burned, the onus is always on you to clear these issues up beforehand as medical pricing and affiliations continue to be beyond opaque. But back to this facility, it's generally first-rate so my complaints are minimal. Just do your homework, no matter where you live. Your blood pressure will thank you in the morning.

The online portal helps get messages through, though. The doctors and nurses are great and I've been an established patient there so I continue to go, but almost every visit I question why I keep going. ** the OB is just as hard to contact and front desk is equally unfriendly but the midwives are TOP NOTCH and nurses are great as well.

She recommended doing a biopsy of 3 areas. I thought that was routine procedure. As she does the biopsies, she noted most people wanted the areas checked over time. Good to know now that I'm in the middle of the procedure. She cauterized the areas. When home doing wound care, I find she removed the entire area that looked odd. The wounds still haven't fully healed after over 3 months and they will scar. I have 2 areas in the back of my calves that look horrible. First, reviewing all options with me should be done. Telling me that the entire discolored areas will be cut out and how slowly those biopsy areas will heal, and that they will scar, would have influenced my decision. I didn't have enough information to make an informed decision. Now I have still healing wounds on my legs. Yes, I did go to follow-up appointments and was told legs heal last and slowly. My summer was ruined due to these wounds and I'll be scared. Not impressed at all with the care.
