He didn't use any examining devices. I didn't feel completely safe when he dismissed my concerns and said everything was ok. I saw another dermatologist about two weeks later. The doctor did a complete examination of my body. One of the spots I was worried about is pre-cancerous and is being treated with a cream. The other was biopsied and the results came back today: squamous cell carcinoma! I called Dr Kessel's office to tell the manager what happened and she said someone would call me back. No one did! She did a full body assessment while she discussed the two marks on my shoulder and nose (she said they were no problem right away), and then just carried on. I had mentioned this was my first appointment with a dermatologist, and I am very fair-skinned, have tons of freckles, and am 40 already...so I just thought she would have spent some time discussing some aspects of my skin I should focus on. I highly doubt I am doing great on all fronts of melanoma prevention. Anyway, maybe they were super busy that day or something, but it just wasn't the experience I hoped for.

Second, there were 4 students in the room plus the doctor which felt intrusive and overwhelming. They put you on the spot and ask do you mind but it was very uncomfortable. Third and worst, they referred my case out to a surgeon and said they would be in touch with me. Three weeks later I heard from no one. I called left a message and when someone got back to me a week later, it wasn't about the referral, it was to ask about how my experience was! I asked them about what happened with the referral and why no one called me back and they said they didn't know and they were calling me from their home so they weren't in the office! That made me feel great about my HIPAA info being used outside the office in someone's home. She finally got in touch with doctor who said the surgeon doesn't take my insurance but there was no follow up from there. I had an issue that I could have addressed almost a month sooner if they were organized enough to provide patient care. And then today they call my wife to say they've been trying to get in touch with me because I have an outstanding payment!!! Which feels like a complete violation and my wife is listed as an emergency contact not someone to call so they can get $68. PS I paid this the day after they sent the invoice in April!! It is now July 21st!!! I didn't get any emails from them since the original invoice. Completely disorganized and frankly bizarre management! I would not trust them with your care.
