Although I had a bad experience with Home Service Plus before (with my dishwasher) my recent experience was phenomenal. My furnace went out on one of the coldest days of the year and they showed up promptly and brought some electric heaters (which were good enough). Then a couple days later they replaced my furnace and I could not be happier with the new furnace. If you need a furnace replaced consider calling them. They were thorough and careful and it works beautifully!! read more

i asked to get our wine cooler fixed. Engineer came out with just a flashlight no diagnosis, nothing. Guessing it was a relay then said part was unavailable the next day even though exact same model fridge available today. Looks good value until you try and make a claim they won't fix sealed Freon units which all modern fridges are, so you will be wasting your time and money and they don't replace your item on their coverage they give you a small donation compared to the price of the appliance. Just a license to rip you off until you realize how worthless it is. Have a money pot to get repairs and replace appliance you will be better off. read more

I purchased a furnace from Centerpoint Energy during the winter of 2025 that retailed for close to $24,000.00, before discounts. Upon completion of the install, I noticed that Centerpoint had left the old HVAC filter box and filter in between the installed new furnace and new plenumns/duct sections. When I pulled the furnace filter out it was the dirty furnace filter. I had just bought a new $24,000 furnace system and found a dirty filter and decades old beat-up furnace filter box stuck between the new sections of the installed new furnace. That upset me. When installing a new furnace, Contractors frequently include new filter rack/filter box transition pieces, nearby plenums, short connecting duct sections, as part of a "new furnace install." But not Centerpoint Energy. I complained to the install manager, and he agreed to the remove the old filter box transition piece and replace it with a new one as should have been done on the original install. He said he would have that done in the spring when the air condition/heat pump unit was installed. In the spring when that unit was installed, they failed to replace the beat-up old filter box transition piece as promised. On April 22, 2026, I spoke with Patrick in sales at Centerpoint and he promised to send a person over to take care of the problem, but no one showed up. Centerpoint Energy is a fortune five hundred company. It is so large they are not impacted if one customer is dissatisfied with their work. A fortune five hundred company that engages in poor workmanship, does not follow through on promises to fix poor work has little to no impact to their bottom line. If you are shopping for a new furnace or appliance, think twice about going with a fortune five hundred company. Find a local company with good reviews that cares about making sure you are a satisfied customer. read more

How can you complain about a monopoly? Extremely frustrating! I called Home Service Plus yesterday. Had them installed a new water heater and when the team left, they have not turned the gas on. Let the pilot light Nord fully turn the water back on into the water heater. They did remove the old tank and put a new one in place, but that was about all they did. CenterPoint has absolutely awful customer service. Need help with something? Don't expect CenterPoint to come through for you. Did they make a mistake which then caused them to charge you a fee? Had my service reconnected earlier in the day but they didn't light the pilot or even check to make sure it would work and said everything was fine and left I called back and got another appointment window of 2 to 6 for a "courtesy" check and its 20 mins past 6 and still no tech. I called customer service was told the job is still open but they cant contact the tech to find out. Requested service for furnace out. Its an onging issue they cannot fix which is getting worse by the day. Dreaded lockout no other codes. REQuested service Fri they didnt make the appointment and without notifying anyone rescheduled for Sat 7am to 10am. Now I just cheched and the time slot has been expanded to 11pm. So now I to keep screwing with the furnace to get it to light. When you have to constantly overide a lockout thats not good. I sugest if anyone is looking for a service plan to avoid Centerpoint unless you want to be your own HVAC TECH there are other companies you can go with on a service plan. read more

There's no doubt in my mind this company would be out of business if anyone had any other choice. They have the worst service, technology and systems. Most of the time the app and website are unavailable or fail halfway through a transaction. I am a HSP customer with the entire house covered. Tech visited to repair KitchenAid Range; parts were needed. (Covered by CP) 2 days later: called and told "parts were not available any longer and I could choose to send it to manufacturer and have it rebuilt." I have found the parts online right at the KitchenAid website...((they total about $525) Promised by CP that they will be reimbursed. We'll see. Terrible service from tech that came out to reconnect our gas. Had to waste a whole pto day and wait around all day for them to show up. When they did show up they seemed to make no effort to let me know. Heard no knocking no pounding, no vehicle doors. Just to find a "sorry we missed you," note on my back door. I had surgery made arrangements to pay, 300 on a 500 dollar bill, I was literally going thru hell, I paid it just like I said I would, they took 1500 out, said it was an error on their end? Advised me to contact my bank, I did and the bank fixed it. The bank returned my overage 1200 dollars minus the 300 we agreed on, Then after centerpoint said they could not reimburse the money back they did but the amount still owed was taken out as well which was on a payment arrangement (they made sure to take there money) even tho it was NOT authorized by me. Acting like it was a error. I don't believe it. I believe it was on purpose because you have the agreement in the system. Now all my banking is totally messed up because the arrangements that were made with centerpoint they didn't keep. They took all of my money and the bank came up short. I had to go borrow the money so the bank could get what was owed to them. God knows and he will deal with crooked people. How unfortunate and unprofessional of a company. Consumers can NOT control your computer glitches and you don't give a D**n. I belive in paying my bills but to be treated this way is unacceptable. Taking money that is not authorized by the consumer is theft! Not that this will help at all because we all have to use this ahole of a company but one day to whom ever has the control to fix this shit, they will need something? One day! My furnace continued to shut down during winter. It was over the course of several years. The tech kept changing the fuse and leaving. Even I know that if the fuse continues to blow out it is another underlying problem! Well, finally another Tech Jose A. Centerpoint Energy has a monopoly on natural gas service and policies that are meant to be ineffective, frustrating, and difficult for all. I was in the hospital much of June and with the stress of my son having 2 brain surgeries, my husband forgot to pay them. They come out to disconnect and I call to pay it. Even though I was actively making the payment they went ahead with disconnection, and had me make an appointment to have someone come back. This is an incredibly stupid, money making process they have with zero exceptions. I got an "I'm sorry" by the woman on the phone and I said that means nothing when they don't make changes like accepting payment instead of disconnecting. It would be easy for them to accept payments and save their own company work with two trips. Absolutely disgusting practices and there are no other companies to switch to. read more

Great value! I've had HSP since purchasing my home in 2017. All appliances were old or aging. I have the basic plus replacement (a set reimbursement amount per type of appliclance), and it's been fantastic. I've had four major appliances seemed unable to repair at some point (most were 30+ years old) as well as water heater replacement which was steeply discounted after the set reimbursement which they applied on the front end. quick turnarounds on the reimbursements as well. Technicians have always been timely and great, and the customer service support/scheduling are fantastic and very helpful. It's been a great service for the types and ages of appliances I have. For others, maybe home warranty options would be better. You determine the value add. For our home, this has been the best service. read more

I've been in my house for 37 years and counting. Have had Centerpoint Service Plus the entire time. Have had 2 Furnace installs, several Hot Water Heaters and a Cental Air Conditioner Install. Just had an absolutely horrible experience with centerpoint energy so I called them. They had shut off the gas because I had renters here at my townhouse apparently had fallen behind on their bills they notify me which I was listed on the account as the owner of the townhouse, I should've been notified. I was not notified. The renters had moved out. I had moved back in and they had shut off my gas while I was at work. I called them took me like 45 minutes to set up an appointment got hung up on twice. Got transferred like five times finally was speaking to somebody who supposedly knew how to do their job. They told me that I had to be home between Noon and 6 PM so I left work early drove an hour home from work sat and waited. they never showed up so I called them to see what was going on because my house was freezing and I was concerned about a pipe bursting didn't have any hot water. I called them. They told me they didn't even have a ticket set up for today Even though I left work early had to get transferred five more time sat on hold for another hour as a landlord of a property, if the tenants are behind on bills I should've been notified. This has been an absolute nightmare, and I have literally wasted my entire day trying to fix this problem with them. If I have any reconnection fees, I'm gonna be extremely upset. read more

I have full coverage for appliance repair. They came out to fix my washer and then told me they couldn't fix it because they don't have the part. When I called to sign up for the replacement I simply had to wait a month before using it as long as I had the proof it couldn't be fixed. Now the way it sounds I still can't use it because the washer broke down, which they didn't have part for, before the coverage began. What on earth am I paying $80 a month for? Never heard of so many excuses, every time I call though customer service tries to sign me up for something else. Will go to Excel for coverage. read more

We mistakenly made two utility payments, one day apart from other the same month and when we realized this, two days later, we called Centerpoint Energy customer service. The respect and service we received from a phone rep named Tricia was horrible. She wouldn't stop talking over me nor would she stop talking to listen to me. We were asking for a refund to our bank account so apparently they can charge our account instantly but are not able to refund the money! I had HSP for my rental in Minnesota. Now that I have cancelled that I feel comfortable in writing a review. This service is horrible. I have had 17 calls over a period of last 3 years. In all cases but 1 they could not fix the issue at hand. For a simple water filter for the refrigerator I had to spend a half an hour listening to the tech tell me that they cannot fix allot if issues with LG refrigerators. I finally demanded to order the part anyway and I would test it before calling another tech out to replace it. In another case we had repeated calls on a dishwasher at the same residence. After 6 or 7 attempts they said that they could not fix the two year old dishwasher. Finally it can to a furnace and AC tune up. It was all working before they started on the AC. Then it did not work and now they claimed it was a compressor. I ended up buying an AC unit from another company. I would never used this service again. read more

Terrible customer support system. I cancelled my Home Service Plus account many months ago on the website. It took it off my account on the website. I have continued to be billed however. I was told that I should have called instead of cancelling it in the website. Whatever the problem is, their support system is dysfunctional. They reps were supportive and apologetic (expressing their own frustrations as well) for the systems in place, but could do nothing. Xcel Energy is even worse. Centerpoint subcontracted with Miller Pipeline to replace gas lines throughout our neighborhood. Huge mess, but we understood that old infrastructure has to be replaced. Long story short, Miller turned off gas to several houses and Centerpoint had absolutely NO arrangements in place to reconnect people's service or light their pilot lights. WHAT kind of idiots do this on a Friday and don't have a plan in place to reconnect the gas?? It's not THEM going without hot water, so why bother with something trivial like customer service? Of course, when you're the only game in town, you don't have to worry about things like customer service or ethics. Center Point Energy SUCKS. read more

We have HSP for basic service. A tech came to check our fridge. He said he would order 2 parts and we found out the next day he didn't order until the next day. We waited 3 more days w/o a fridge. Another tech came out and "condemned" our 8 year old fridge. We then bought a new fridge today. When I called to cancel our fridge from the basic plan, the rep said we owed $440.00 for canceling early. Evidently the tech upped us up last night for another year of HSP resulting in this mistake. Both techs were poor. The phone rep today was rude asking me if I knew what "condemned" meant. Buyer beware! read more

CenterPoint Energy provides the WORST, mediocre service you could ever imagine. They broker with third party plumbers and service contractors to do the job. We are on day 3 without our main drain being unclogged due to tree roots. We pay for an emergency drain cleaning service, but that has proved to be useless since they won't come out! They had A-1 Emergency Rooter in Stillwater, MN to come out Friday night and the tech said their machine was too big to fit through the door, so he said they will get something in the books for the next day (yesterday) to get someone who has the break apart machine. We had an 8am-4pm window and just in case we've called CenterPoint several times during the day to make sure someone was still coming out. Finally, one of the representatives said "Yeah not sure how you managed to get an 8-4 window. They usually come out between 7am-11pm.". So now we waited on day 2 only to find out at the last minute (around 7:30pm) that we were never in the schedule to begin with! And at this point, it wasn't even with A-1 anymore, it was with "DC"? So now they said they'd call us back this morning to get something scheduled (SURPRISE! They never did.). I called CenterPoint back again and now we're back to square one, finding a plumber to come out today to fix the main drain that SHOULD'VE been fixed on Friday! After this main drain cleaning service, we are reconsidering the "Home Service Plus" coverage, because the representatives and contractors are USELESS and the service is a WASTE OF MONEY! read more

My initial request was marked completed around mud August, when in all reality it was not even close to complete. I contacted them AGAIN and they put in a new case number. I logged onto Centerpoint energy to paid my gas bill. The website had a pop up stating Main Drain Emergency Cleaning Plan Get optional sewer coverage from Home Service Plus for $7.95/month. I thought that sounded like a good price and clicked Enroll now. In the 2nd screen the price jumped to $9.95/month. I called Centerpoint energy to ask about the price difference and they stated the price was $9.95 and that their website does not say $7.95. I offered to send a screenshot but they did not want it. Center Point Energy is the only natural gas provider in my community as well as many others in the metro. Their fees are exorbitant an God help the person who struggles to keep their home warm in the winter. There is no other alternative so I pay the bills. My big mistake was to sign up for the Pipe Protection Program. I thought of it as insurance , there for an emergency. After all, they tell us that, as a utility company, they are not responsible for what happens between the meter and the mechanism which uses the gas. Having the plan for almost two years now I thought it was time to ask for assistance with pipes leading to my furnace. Big mistake. I was subjected to intimidation and ridicule by the service person. My call to CP was a repeat. There was absolutely no "customer service" friendliness. Instead I was the culprit, I was on trial from "hello". Cancel the service? That will be a $120 charge for cancellation mid-contract. And, we want you to tell us why exactly you feel entitled to the cancellation. I told the entire sordid story in full detail (much more than divulged here) and there was dead silence. And a "my supervisor will contact you should there be more details needed". My experience with Centerpoint makes me realize why their review rating is so low. Their employees leave trash on your property when doing work and leave it for the customer to clean up after them. Then when you call their so-called customer service representative and file a complaint, you get ignored. Their relationship with customers is one sided, they screw the customer around and charge you a very high rate, especially for poor service. If there was a different company competing with them, they might treat customers somewhat decent rather than like crap. read more

I am a very long time Service Plus customer who has been sitting in my UN-AIR-CONDITIONED home for 5 days waiting for Service Plus to complete the repair on my air conditioner. The technician's inability to remove the fan blade from my old air conditioner fan motor has resulted in a 5 day wait for Service Plus to repair my air conditioner. While here last Thursday the repair technician called in the part order and reported to me that the part was in fact already in town and should be delivered the next day, last Friday. The repairman told us there was currently no service backlog and he should be able to stop by and finish the repair on Friday. No part came Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and finally on Monday not one, but two identical parts came by courier. We immediately called to schedule the completion of our service call and we told there was now a backlog and the technician would not be able to come until today. It is now 5 pm of the 5th day without air conditioning, it is just under 100 degrees outside and almost 90 degrees inside my home, and although all the parts necessary for the repair are sitting here, and have been since yesterday, there is no word from a Service Plus technician. In talking to the customer service representative, they are apparently not able to give me any idea of the technicians estimated time of arrival, nor are they able to contact the service technician or prioritize service calls in any way. I know this is untrue because my service technician told me Thursday, he could be called away for a gas leak at any time. Per the representative, "everything is an emergency". When I asked if that was the case, why would I have Service Plus for all these years? Her reply was "because it doesn't cost you anything.". Bought a new A/C unit for my house through the Center Point Home Service Plus program. Spent 6 grand on it and it quit working after 48 hours. They told me they couldn't send a repairman out to look at it for 4 days. This is after I waited a week for the initial repair of my old unit that was beyond repair (I bought that one through Center Point and it lasted only 15 years). Then waited another week for a new AC. And now more waiting for repair of the new one that quit working after 2 days. read more

We have service plus which is supposed to give you priority service and free parts labor is charged however. Our air conditioning went out when the temperatures were in the 90-100 ranges. They couldn't come out for 4 weeks!! This happens a lot! I am considering canceling all service plus services they come at a high price! Total inconvenience. read more

This review is for Service Plus. At over $400/year, it's a good idea to have as an insurance policy when appliances break--as long as you can get service. I have had Service Plus dating back to the mid 1990s. Back then, I always received same-day or next-day service on any repairs. I have used them two times in the past several years, and been disappointed both times. I waited over a week for service, then over a year for handles for my stove from the previous visit. Today, I called for service on a gas dryer and was told that no appointments were available for over two weeks. That is not acceptable and extremely poor service for the $400 cost. Yesterday they were supposed to do a furnace tuneap, I received a confirmation text the night before. without informing me they changed my app't from 9/16 to 9/26.
