I've always wanted to check out the Vineyard Farmer's Market and just never made it over. It was my lucky day as I snuck over while my fiancé was at his appointment. The Vineyard is beautiful and it was a lovely sunny day, just a bit windy. I was surprised at all the vibrant and quality produce offered. There were other vendors selling honey, flowers, food, coffee - even La Boulangerie bakery from Fig Garden had a booth! I honestly felt transported elsewhere for a bit. It felt like a genuine Farmer's Market and easily my favorite in Fresno now. Everything I purchased from this quick visit- I loved. The pastries from La Boulangerie, the coffee from Fabiano, the strawberries I actually purchased from 2 farmers, notably Maos Farms were the sweetest we've had all year and the produce was beautiful and delicious. I eyed some grape leaves sold by an older couple- the last one was purchased before I could say, hello, lol. They looked delicious. Great quality items from local farmers and vendors. I can't wait to return again.

Their stand is in the back lot area towards the center near the Ghandi statue. Currently, the citrus season is winding down (mandarins and tangerines) while yellow peaches just became available and other stone fruits will follow shortly. Apricots were available when I walked by yesterday. My go-to here are the kishu mandarins when in season but we are already past that season. They also sell both types of persimmons, fuyu (crunchy and crisp) and hachiya (soft after ripening). This stand is manned by multiple people, sometimes a gal, and sometimes a guy. The guy has been here recent weeks and they do accept credit cards for payment.

The August day we came toodling down a dusty road looking for them, they were busy at their packing shed filling humongous orders to ship off to SF and places beyond. This happens twice a week, on Sundays and Thursdays, something the Blossom Trail brochure did not exactly explain. Oblivious to their strict schedule, we found ourselves staring at a tightly closed, little farm store which is located right next to their home and a very unhappy dog that insisted we should not be there and should not get out of the car. Hey, I've watched Cesar Milan, Dog Whisperer. I got out of the car, stood firm, showed no fear, then wisely remembered I wasn't Cesar and slowly retreated to my open car door and hastily jumped in. Dog=1, Wendy=0. What that dog didn't know was, while Mr. B was too chicken to get out of the car, he was still unrelenting and hell bent on getting some great fruit. So he called their listed phone number. I have to say, Fran, wife, was most gracious and very accommodating. She even jumped into her car and drove us over to their packing shed where she introduced us to her hard working son, Brian, who dropped everything to help us. We left the dog in our dust. They were currently processing several delicious varieties: OHenry peaches, Snow King white peach, Bella Royale peacotum (an interesting peach apricot plum mix), Flavor Grenade plum, and the Elephant Heart Plum (my personal favorite, a most delicious turn-of-the-century plum developed by Luther Burbank). While still not quite ripe, they had delicious aroma that convinced us we were getting something special. We came away with about $20 worth of beautiful, unique fruit. Their products can be found at many Farmer's Markets in the SF Bay area. Make sure you look for the Blossom Bluff Orchards label. Or if you find yourself out in the exciting (jk) Fresno area and want to buy from the source, call first to make sure their little farm store is open.

During summer Months farmers Market is Friday's and Saturdays. We have met so many amazing vendors which my favorite is the honey vendor! Sweet just like her honey and organic honey no sweetners straight from the comb. Delicious! Wild flower and Orange Blossoms are my favorite! There's also vendors that sell cherries during Cherry season, almonds of various flavors and in candy form too! Very sweet vendors too! Plethora of vegetables and fruits to choose from. They have music going, street blocked off A LOT of businesses that were once closed now open again. Some vendors were selling masks too! Although about 20% of people were wearing masks A LOT wasn't. Since Clovis lifted their stay at home orders and not enforcing some measures it was packed in the farmers market. They did have hand washing stations and hand sanitizers. Overall, I love going to the Farmers Market to find yummy treats and support local businesses and the community. Overall, ALL vendors were wearing masks and gloves. However no one was practicing social distancing so if you don't mind that definitely come out and support your local farmers market!!!

The answer to the question? I had to…read more The question? Why would anyone in their right mind be driving out in the crudely paved back roads outside of Fresno. I am assuming you think it's incomprehensible. It was 100 degree plus weather in August! Based on a tip from another local fruit grower, we weaved zig zag through country roads lined with fruit orchards and occasional farm houses. GPS was our guide. And then we saw it. A dusty driveway. A modest home. A small, unmanned fruit stand shaded by a bright red pop-up. A table set up with wooden crates filled with plump, freshly picked peaches, nectarines, and plums, labeled with homemade signs. A stack of brown paper bags, just big enough to hold maybe 6 peaches, each the size of your fist. And a crusty, homemade lock box with a slot on top. In the background was a packing house and an orchard. This is a DIY operation. You don't get to pre-taste their offerings, but you do get to "cherry pick". And what you do get are beautiful, tree ripened stone fruit at prices that are far better than most. You are on the honor system here, so if you are seduced by the siren call for peak season, fresh fruit, be considerate. Pop the correct number of bills in the slot before you walk away. You will be rewarded. And you will look forward to the next time, doing the exact same thing.
