Great park. Unfortunate that I went so early. Most of the small dogs that showed are pretty old and my dog really wanted to play.

Central Park is a wonderfully large park, with Central Bark (dog park) located on the far right of the park nearish to the basketball courts. It is a bit of a walk if you just park near the entrance of the main park. Half the dog park is sand/dirt and the other half is covered in grass. There's always a few loose balls laying around. Everyone seems to pick up after their dogs. I do not recommend going on a windy day. The place turns into a freaking sand storm. I've been here twice with my little buddy. He's a pretty quiet ex-shelter dog who just wants to keep to himself, but I'm working on trying to give him some socialization. As with all dog parks, its a mixed bag of who will show up. Some days its pretty chill dogs he's interested in playing with, other days it's a lot of dominant dogs he's running away from constantly. Sometimes, I just walk around the park itself if the dog park is sketchy. There are lots of things for the little buddy to explore. read more

Dog park is open with plenty of room to run. Downside is the aggressive dog named Puma. First time last week this dog bit at my 13 month old female Rottweiler and I had to intervene. Today, 10/18/2021, same dog Puma, bit at my dog again. This time swiped at him with a leash and not so politely told the owner to control his dog. One woman proceeds to tell me that he's only a puppy and my dog is being submissive and should be there. My dog and I ha e been here over 20 times and this dog was the only one to show aggression towards mine. Second woman, a Karen, says stay away from my dog. Lady, your dog is not aggressive and interacting with mine, look. Apparently my anger scared this Karen. To end this story, I waited for the sheriff's to arrive, told them what was going on. Deemed no crime was committed by me defending my dog from a threatening act. So to woman number one and the Karen who just couldn't stay out of it, I will not hesitate to protect my dog from any threat, human or animal. Like I said, it's a good size dog park. Be on the look out for Puma however. Black dog looks like herding breed mixed. read more

My dog loves it here. He's such a chicken, but he actually loves the common dog area where the big dogs are allowed. People here are friendly. Of course in the future there will be a possibility of meeting someone weird, but so far, everything has been fine. The common dog area is a decent size. However, my little dog doesn't need much space. If he gets bored, we can go walk up on the trail, so I like there are different options. Parking lot is big so that's also a plus. read more

This once fairly grassy area is now a field of dirt. This, I understand, is due to the California drought. The main problems I have with this space are: People not picking up the poop after their own dogs, even though there are bags provided for that and its one of the rules of the park. Bringing extremely aggressive dogs that come through the gate with an attitude. Owners not paying attention to their pet when it seems they are not quite people friendly; my wife had to repeatedly ask one guy to please call his boxer as he nonchalantly sat in his lounge chair, seemingly oblivious to the dog's growling at her. And people continuously bring their small puppies, terriers and toy breeds to the over 25 pounds yard, when there is a separate yard for smaller breeds under 25 pounds directly adjacent to it. An accident just waiting to happen. There is a lot of room for your pet to run and play though, and a place to give them water when needed. As for rattlesnakes, I've never seen one in the yard but have heard them rattling outside the fence in the surrounding brush. read more

Hi everyone! Hope this review helps somewhat. First off let me just say, I'm not here to review the people that go to this park, so let's just get that out of the way. (Crazy people are everywhere if you haven't noticed yet, welcome to earth). So first off location. Location is "meh", I feel like crossing the soccer fields just to get to the park can be a bit annoying as there are times when games are happening and you sort of have to weave through parents sitting in their folding chairs. I think it would be great if they had made a walkway or even a parking area just for the dog park. However, it's not a big deal, just a thought. As for the park itself, size is o.k. , I think it could be a bit more expanded. It can get crowded in there sometimes and dogs need more space to run and play. It's all sort, so needless to say my dog gets really dirty after a long play session. It would be nice to have grass, especially during the summer where the dogs can just cool off on some cold grass. Shade.... there is none. I mean, ok, there is SOME shade, but it's not great. I have read people complaining about where to sit, I try to move around the park so my dog doesn't get used to me being in one spot, so the whole sitting thing doesn't bother me too much, also, moving around helps keep an eye on my dog and making sure I'm close enough if something happens. Dog brawls, ok a lot of people have mentioned dogs getting into fights and people as well. Dogs will let each other know when enough is enough and tell another dog to leave it alone, however, yes there's the occasional dog that just bullies all the other dogs. I don't like to meddle with other owners and tell them how to train their dogs but you'll run into those people and dogs everywhere, which is why I trained my dog the "leave it" command. You may not be able to control other dogs, but with good training you can get a hold of your dog and so on. Sanitary? Hmmm... well dogs are pretty gross so what do you expect? I always clean after my dog and for the most part, everyone else does too. There is a communal water bowl right under a water faucet for dogs to hydrate. Some owners decide to bring their own water and water bowls and to each their own. It's good to make sure your pup is up to date with shots for this reason. Overall experience, it's been fine to tell you the truth. My dog loves it there and that's all that matters, as long as he is happy. Yes there have been a few alterations but nothing crazy. I give it 3 stars based on the overall look and space of the park, it needs more of an update. Hope this helped, oh! First visit to Central Bark yesterday with our pup and it was great. Two large fenced in areas, one seemed to be for smaller dogs and one for larger dogs. It was very clean. Wish there was more grass but understandable as the area is super dry. read more

This is our go to dog park. We love it. For the most part we take our dog to the small dog side but sometimes if the large dogs look friendly we go over and let her socialize with the big dogs. everyone is friendly! There are some people who are regulars at the time period we go but that makes it so much better. read more

I have been going to Central Bark since the day we cut the ribbon, first with my old dog and now with her replacement (a bad choice of words since no dog could replace her). Fortunately my lab will have nothing to do with an aggressive dog except to play. If another dog wants to fight he'll just walk away so I never have to worry about that. Some of the comments here are totally correct. An owner NEEDS to be able to differentiate between agressive playing and fighting. It's sometimes a thin line but one should know their animal. Yesterday a dog ran up to mine very aggressively and his owner politely tried to call him back but I told him to let them play since I could tell his dog wasn't being mean, just playful. Dogs know the difference better than we do. Central Bark may be small compared to many others but it is a TEMPORARY park (at least it was built as a temporary park). Canine Country Park is even smaller but it, too, is a temporary park. The new, permanent park that is planned for the Sports Complex will be much larger with many more amenities. I find that the size of Central Bark lets me socialize as much as my dog. I rarely use the benches since I am always watching my dog as well as everyone else's and I can play with the dogs as well. Personal note: don't go to a dog park if you don't want to be licked, jumped on or knocked on your butt by playing dogs. read more

Drove on by 1 park in the area that was tiny, empty of anyone and just dirt. Then we found this one on GPS, walked a few hundreds meters through a beautiful grassy soccer field to get to this dirt lot. Not a stitch of grass, no shade and thanks to the Yelp reviews, I was on high alert for rattle snakes (appreciated the heads up!). I wasn't about to not let my dog go in and play when we had driven 90 minutes here to come check out the area. So, in we went and said our prayers that there would be no "incidents" as we could see lax owners just sitting in chairs and visibly paying no mind to any dogs, let alone their own dogs. Big dogs at that, some with aggressive attitudes. (there is a small doggie lot next door, nice to see) We brought our chuck-it ball and stick and tried to keep mostly to ourselves on one side. Some of the people we spoke to were quite nice and we wore our pup out after an hour. My eyes however from the dirt in the air, stung for a day. Not on our must-return-to list. I am not thrilled with this dog park. I started going to the park because my dog was bitten at the Balboa dog park. While we have had no incidents like that at this site, there are some things that do need improving. For starters, Central park is huge and they cram the dog park into the tinniest little corner; It should be at least twice as big. They only have a small dog and all dog section. We need to get a third option. My sister has a small dog that plays great but she's nervous to put him in the all dog section. The crowd seems to be hit or miss as well. Sometimes its good, and sometimes not. Either way, there are not that many dogs. Recently, I have found a lot of kids coming to the park. Normally I would not care but they like to chase the dogs, and pet/pat them. They try to play with them as they from that herd. I have a large Saint Bernard, and while I know she would never bite anyone she can knock them over easily. The last thing I need is some parent yelling at me because they never taught his/her child how to approach a strange dog. I will say that the owners are all very much aware of their dogs, and if any trouble breaks out it is quickly taken care of. Despite my ranting, it is better than a lot of other parks. Not in terms of location, but owner responsibility. Never have I seen a poop left UN-scooped, which it a big problem at the parks in the valley. I wish they had a community bulletin board so that we could post play dates or neat events going on. It will continue to be the dog park we go to until I can find one with more shade, more space, and more dogs. read more

Central Bark has changed a lot since it first opened up. Today when me and my doggie went there was a lot more shade and a lot more benches and even some picnic tables for owners to hang back and watch their doggies play. I like the improvements! As mentioned, there is a small dog portion and a big dog portion. Small dogs can go in either one, but the big dogs aren't usually as welcome on the small side of the park. Everyone is pretty good about picking up after their dogs and is pretty friendly. One of my biggest pet peeves about going to dog parks is those annoying "dog people" who are crazy serious about their dogs and if another dog so much as looks at their's wrong they scream bloody murder. This park has its share of those crazies, but most of them are relatively normal. This town doesn't really have many dog parks to choose from that I can remember, so it can get pretty busy. Weekends are especially crawling with puppies. On today's Wednesday late afternoon it got pretty busy too. It's a fun little park to watch the dogs run around and play (or just follow you around like my dog does). Now that I've moved back I'll probably frequent this place again. read more

Chill spot with benches. First time here was about 5 years ago, and it's the same as how I remember it. My dog prefers walking instead of socializing, but when needed, I can relax a bit while he's forced to open up to new dogs. The water bowls are in a grassy dirt area. The place is clean and bathrooms are just a 2-minute walk away. There is an entrance to small-dog zone and one for all-dog zone. You have to exit one zone and walk a couple steps to the door to the other one. The two sections share a fence though. Simply put, it is a carefree place that welcomes all dogs and their responsible dog-owners. read more

The PEOPLE HERE SUCK. I got shunned out for my dog having an outburst. (He is super energetic and his excitement spilled into an aggressive altercation). He's been socialized his whole life. Maybe it's the quarantine that got him over emotional? Ugh. I just feel horrible over what people, PEOPLE, at the Central park said to me. I apologized to the lady who's dog got spooked by mine and she replied with "Yeah, apologize 20 minutes later" (had not been even 5 min later) Um sorry, I had a grown man yelling at me about what just had happened so... I feel awful. Just completely awful with how I was treated here. My dogs are still puppies so I brought them to the small dog side and we were completely alone until the one dog showed up. People should be understanding about how dogs are unpredictable AT TIMES. I shouldn't have gotten yelled at by anyone. Go to Five Barks on Golden Valley instead. This is where I bring my dog to play. It's the closest to me at the moment. In addition, I have a plot in the new community garden nearby, so the park is doubly convenient. I'll judge the park on facilities, hours, etc. I don't think it's fair to judge it based on the dogs people bring to the park seeing how different come in and out. I've been to several parks and there will almost always be a dog who does not act appropriately. Hopefully that owner will act appropriately. In addition, the city does have volunteers/community service individuals who pick it up sometime in the AM/early afternoon. Not perfect, but I don't think it negatively affects the 'experience'. I wish people would clean up their dog's poo, but I have seen MUCH worse. Size: Small - medium (appropriate for my dog since her style of play is not limited to running) Shade: Seeing how hot this city can be, I'd say it's lacking. Not enough seating. I would have loved to see seating close to the shade as well. Some people have adjusted by bringing their own chairs. Distance: It's in the back past the soccer field. There is a path that leads to the park, but many people cross the field since it's more convenient. It must be annoying to play in that field, since many dogs do their 'I'm-so-excited-to-go-to-the-park-I-can't-contain-myself' poo there. Seriously, if your dog has a constipation problem, spend a day here. Hours: all day BUT THERE ARE NO NIGHT LIGHTS, so most people leave by 6-7 depending on the season. Ok sized, was really busy but perhaps it was b/c it was a Sunday afternoon. My pups had fun for the most part, but I had to pull them out of some potentially aggressive situations a couple of times. Finally when a lady came in with a large dog that she (admittedly) did not have control over - and didn't let it off the leash until she was well inside the main area and had ~10 other dogs around her and the large dog (full back hackles of alarm were raised on that dog) did she finally let it off. Of course it ran right over to me and mine who were standing back waiting for that situation to diffuse so we could leave. I wasn't going to risk an altercation. So, a few yellow warning flags but the Jury is still out on this one, i'll give it another chance, but not on a weekend afternoon. Side note is that there is a TON of open space around the park. With how popular it seemed, they could extend the area by quite a big and comfortably still leave room for the soccer players. read more

I have been coming to this dog park for about a month now and really enjoy it as well as my little Ellie. I'll start with saying that the dog park is pretty big. There are two sides, the common area which any dog can go into and the 25lbs or less area for smaller dogs. Right when you enter the park you will see poop bags and a shovel just in case you have a bigger load to pick up and at the corner is the water station. There are plenty of benches and two tables at the very end of the park to sit and relax at. Though the rules say no food or drinks people bring them anyway so don't be surprised if dog jump up and try to eat your things. The park is mainly dirt with trees around the edges that provide some shade. People also leave toys behind like balls, frisbees and ropes so you really don't have to bring your own unless your dog is picky. My little Ellie has so much fun here with all the dogs that come, best days would mostly be the weekends or when people get off from work usually the place gets more busy around 4 on a weekday. I didn't give this 5 stars for the fact that there is no grass and that some but not many dog fights break out and sometimes the owners don't leave which just makes things a little uncomfortable. Other than that I will continue to come here because dogs will be dogs and Ellie loves letting all her puppy energy out there. read more

What can I say, its a dog park. The space is great in the common area. No grass just dirt which doesnt really bother me as much as other dog owners for some reason. Plenty of seating for humans. Benches placed all throughout the fencing. Plenty of tennis balls and frisbees are just sitting their waiting to be played with. Has a big water bowl for your thirsty doggies. Best time to come is in the afternoon on weekdays typically between 2-6. Thats when ive seen most dogs. And on the weekends around 11-3. My only concern which has nothing to do with the park itself is other dog owners. Today for instance, an older lady came in with her BIG dog and it immediatly jumped on another smaller dog and started humping her. The poor thing tried to get the big dog off her and resist but then thats when he got aggressive, bit down on her neck ,and continued humping her. The worst part is the big dogs owner wasnt doing anything!! Just standing there watching! The other dog owner was trying so hard to get the big dog off but he was just too heavy! Thats when she literally hit the big dog, hard. Even though it got him off thats a Big no,no. Dont ever hit someone elses dog! Not until then did the lady with the big dog run over and leash him and then started arguing with the other lady about hitting her dog. The woman with the smaller dog left while the one with the urge to hump stayed. 2 minutes later, he was at it again with another dog! Literally humping and once again his owner wasnt doing anything. And then again. Three times!!! She was making it uncomfortable for everybody. There must have been 10 -15 dogs and then there were 4. My pup and i were only there 20 minutes but i made the decision to leave like everybody else due to her carelessness. POINT IS: Take care of your dogs . Dont bring them just to satisfy their need to hump. I understand dogs have the urge but this lady simply just didnt give a s***. Not all people should own dogs. read more

Hmm, what to say about this god forsaken dog park. Seems like EVERY time I go a dog fight breaks out or an altercation between owners. Last time I went a dog bit someone and the guy went to the hospital to get stitches. The Owner of the dog kept saying, "On the gate it says enter at your own risk." Ummmm wtf? Second, all the owners stand around and mingle and pay no mind to their dog. My boyfriend and I watched a dog, follow an OLD disabled dog for almost an hour, humping it non-stop. What, a terrible habit that I refuse to let my dog pick up. Third, half the dogs that come in are NOT SOCIALIZED properly and WHY would you bring an aggressive dog into the dog park! Also if you have a little dog keep it in the little park! It's not funny when your aggressive little dog is following my dog around barking and nipping. Now, the park itself is nice. Big and nice. As for the people and dogs, about 80% of them are idiots. read more

I live in Northern Cali and took my Maya pup to Central Bark while visiting my sister. We arrived at the park and had to walk through 3 huge green fields before we saw the dog park. It was obvious that there was a 'small' dog park and a 'large' dog park. But when we entered the large dog side, there were small dogs and puppies as well. I thought it was strange, but now it makes total sense if it was an 'all dog' side. Not that it mattered because my maya pup is a 50lb. si husky. My maya pup ran, chased, and played with other dogs and a small puppy. Maya played with the small puppy until the owners took him away. The people there were friendly. We were there for a good hour and people started to leave, so I picked up a ball & played fetch with her. My Maya pup goes to dog parks because 1.) socialize 2.) socialize 3.) socialize read more

I don't see where one can rate a dog park too much, but here goes. Bowser loves coming here. It's divided up into a 20lb or less side, and an any (big) dog side. The people who come, while sometimes a bit on the odd side, are generally very pleasent. I've seen a few mild fights break out between dogs (no, not playing, I can tell the difference), but one has to expect that sort of thing. They provide shovels and bags for your dogs business, have running water available, and a few toys about. I wouldn't mind a few more benches and trees for shade, but if you want to bring your dog out to socialize, this is the place. Usually a good number of dogs to be found. read more

On the small side. Few trees, limited to no shade. Seating is scanty. I go to socialize my dog, but it's not my favorite place to take him. For some reason, when I go there's always someone with bad dog park manners who lets their dog run wild to the detriment of other dogs. That, or poo all over the place and not clean it up. (It's amazing the attitude people have over their dog's inappropriate behavior...drives me nutty!) That's my personal experience with this park. I recommend it to people who have well-socialized dogs. If your dog has any sort of issues, it may be a little stressful to them, but obviously that's for you to determine! read more

I liked it at first but I don't go anymore. I really miss the grass that was there originally and I don't like the dirt. Overall the size is OK - I wish it was larger like the dog park on 17750 Victory blvd in the SFV. The dog owners seem to obey the rules. I literally drive from the San Fernando Valley once a week to come here! It's definitely not the biggest park in the world, but my dogs love it more than any park they've ever been to - and despite its small size, our visits are always Saturday or Sunday, during what is normally prime time for dog park over crowding, but we have yet to feel like there were too many dogs to enjoy the park. Our usual trip is to go to the park for a few minutes, then go hiking on the trails around the park, then back to the park for a while when we're done. My dogs love the fact that there's a tree area on the side (good for hide and seek) as well as a nice grassy area, and a long expanse of fence, by which they can race the big dogs. It's a beautiful, clean park, and the people there have to be the most normal people (overall - obviously there are some lemons anywhere you go!) I've ever shared a park with. The dogs are generally friendly (a reflection on the people), and the view is spectacular (versus a dirty concrete ditch in Encino, or power lines and dirty apartment buildings on Whitnall). Also, unlike any of the parks I've been to in LA, the COMPLETE list of dog park rules is on the fence, including safety rules left off the signs on the other parks I go to that have started big fights (like people who allow their children to run through the park unattended - even the least aggressive dog can get excited by a running child and knock them over, or nip at their heels in play) - with the rules right there in plain sight, it's much easier to say, "Didn't you look at the sign when you came in?" if someone tries to start crap. From what I've seen in general, it seems like most fights between dogs and/or owners breaks out when they aren't in control of the situation. You wouldn't let your child play rough until another child ran away crying, so why let your dog? At any rate, the only one complaint I have is that the only water bowl in the park is under the faucet, directly on the other side of the chain link fence from the big dog side, and while my dogs like playing with the big dogs, they do not feel comfortable drinking water next to them. Other than that, I look forward to my visits to this park every time, and so do my dogs! read more

I use to enjoy taking my two yorkies here (never had any problems). It's been a few months since I last brought them to this park until recently, about a couple days ago I decided it would be nice to have them spend some time at this park again. Which now I'm 100% regretting, due to both my dogs have ticks and I know it's results of them playing at this dog park. PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS ABOUT HAVING YOUR FUR BABIES IN THIS AREA! It's been a horrible experience not just for myself and my boyfriend but for our pups having to go thru the process of removing these ticks. read more

Beware... if you having a loving pet that you care about, be careful of the other dogs that are in the park. I made an almost life-threatening error of taking my dog into the all dog park with remorse lingering until my dying days. Central Bark is partitioned into two areas. The all dogs area and the small dogs area. The all dogs area is for, you guessed it, all dogs, small and big and while it is predominantly mid-size to big dogs, I would say 10% would be of the smaller kind. The small dog area is strictly for small dogs. No big dogs can enter period. This park is nothing out of the ordinary for my dog. We've been going on a weekly basis since it had opened in December and I've always encountered friendly dogs and likewise owners. On 5/24/2008, this all changed. I had entered the all dog park and unleashed my Shih-Tzu to go for a walk around the park so it can get acquainted with the bigger sized dogs. My dog was greeted by a handful of dogs 10 times his size and there was absolutely no problem. Walking about 15 yards, a predominatly pitbull mix comes from nowhere and lunges at my dog. My dog dodges him the first time and jets away with all his life. The pitbull chases after my dog across the park and eventually corners him. Everything was a blur happening faster than what my mind can process. This entire time I'm chasing after them, trying to get my dog out of harms way and then the upspeakable happens. The pitbull grabs my dog on the neck and starts to shake him like a ragdoll. My dog is now yelping for help and I finally get in there to get him. I tell you, it was not easy. This was a 100+ pound unsupervised pitbull that had blood in its eyes. I picked my dog up and cradled him into my arms while he was crying from the pain. The owner was no where to be found when this all occured and finally showed up to leash the dog to leave. The entire park was watching this occur. I hand over my dog to my GF and went up to the lady... blond curly hair, english proficiency of a sixth grader, an attitude of a wasp, pick-up truck yet to be determined. I ask her why she's leaving her dog unsupervised and she goes off on me about how it's my dogs fault for running away and that her dog never bites any other dogs. I reply... well apparently he does bite because he almost killed my dog and why the hell would he even have a choke collar if he's so friendly. She then says it was another dog that started it and told me I shouldn't bring my dog into the big dog park. Then two people that are listening tell her it's not a big dog park but an all dog park and every dog has the right to be in it. I leave the park and inspect my dog. He wasn't injured too badly but he couldn't walk for 3 days. He's been traumatized by the whole event but I do see a little improvement in his personality and the old playful Ken is coming back slowly yet surely. In the heat of the moment, I wasn't able to get the lady's information. I should have called Animal Control right then but my only concern was on my dog. I sure hope this doesn't happen again because no one should bear the pain that my dog and I went through over the worst Memorial Day Weekend ever. read more

Anytime you mix people with opposing ideas you're bound to have problems. So rather than reviewing the people and the problems I'm going to review the park itself. As dog parks go this is definitely one of the smaller parks out there, compared to 5 acres in Sepulveda. There are two separate areas the small dog area, and the "all" dog area. I love visiting because I've never been here without running into someone I know or someone who has adopted from me in the past. The reason this dog park is only a three star dog park is because it's just not quite there yet. There is little to NO shade offered by the tree's planted in the interior of the park so on a nice summer day bring a hat and some sun block. I've been on multiple occasions where the water in the park had been shut off, patrons often thought ahead and brought out big jugs of water. There aren't many benches so expect to be standing if the park is in high use when you come. No pooper scoopers? I know they hand out little blue bags but in a central location such as this wouldn't it be more green to not wrap poop in a bag THEN throw it away? Other than that it's a fun place to go. If there was a little more time and effort put into the implementation of the park I would say it's a worthwhile dog park but this is just a grassy fenced in area, really a glorified dog run. read more

Not enough shade or seating. Pretty small dog park in size but I have 2 chihuahuas so only stay on the small size only side. There is a small dog park in Canyon Country now so prefer to go there. Closer to home and less dogs. read more

This park used to be one of my favorite spots to take my oldest small dog, but recently its become a place for people to socialize their angry unstable dogs! I have a new a 7 month old terrier who is shy around dogs and so in the evenings there's usually less people and less dogs, so she can feel comfortable. Today someone brought in a medium sized dog to the small dog section, which this dog had the spikey chocke collar on it (already a bad sign). The dog ran to the middle chain link fence & started yapping,crying & barking aggressively at the big dogs next door. Apparently, it's brother was on that side. Long story short, this medium sized dog saw mine as bait, & my poor puppy saw his aggressive eye's & ran, that dog got my puppy & shook her in his mouth like a toy (trying to kill her) thank GOD we separated them. But that the hell!? Don't bring your aggressive, unstable dog to the dog park!!! Let this be a warning for everyone, speak up to anyone who brings a big dog to the small dog side. And look for the red flags that a dog might be aggressive and GET OUT of there! read more

This place has the charm (and the smell) of the Castaic Animal Shelter. I can't believe I got in the car and traveled for this experience. Its a few large dog pens that people get to share with the dogs. Stinking dirt small fenced in area. The large dog area seems to have a large collection of regulars with their a$$ end firmly planted on the picnic table. As a long time SCV resident, this place has the feeling of something in the middle of Reseda. Guess this is the new Saugus I don't recognize. read more

I am also writing a review to defend "big dogs." I totally agree with the dog professional below. The first reviewer was lucky his dog was not killed. I was actually at the park on the day of the aforementioned incident and as the owner of the Shih-Tzu said; there were about 90% big dogs there that day. However, the predominant pack at the time were extra big and included my Rottweiler mix, several bulldogs, a few pit bulls, and a 185-pound great dane. Any idiot would not put his dog in harms way in this obviously hazardous situation----even just getting stepped on accidentally by an 185 pound dog could have killed or seriously injured a dog under 10 pounds. Like the dog professional below said, dog park incidents like this are the fault of irresponsible owners that do not understand "pack behavior." The Shih-Tzu was insecure and giving off negative energy, so many of the large dogs that day viewed it as prey (purely by instinct). The writer of this review neglected to mention that three to four other dogs also went after the Shih-Tzu after the big dog in question had already been detained. This proves that it was the little dog (NOT the big dog) that initiated the chain of events. By the way, my dog plays with this so-called "killer dog." It is very well trained and NOT AGGRESSIVE. I have seen it several times at the park without incident. Also, the owner is very attentive to her dog and she had her dog leashed and off the Shitzu as quickly as she could. So the fact that the dog was "unsupervised" is an out and out lie. Also, just so you know the dog is not a pit pull, it is a lab mastiff mix and anyone that knows dog characteristics can attest to the fact that mastiffs are called "gentle giants" by the AKA and are a passive breed. It is a shame that owners like that of the Shih-Tzu ruin the park by not using common sense. Had he just put his dog in the "little side" which was far more appropriate none of this would have happened. read more

Sorry, I read the last review on Central Bark and couldn't contain myself. Any dog respecting and loving owner would know better then to take a 10 lb dog out of the small dog side and put them into harms way by putting them in with the larger dogs. Whether a sign says "small dogs, and all dogs" or not, it is NOT smart (and anybody with half a brain would understand this) to put a 10 lb dog into the area with larger dogs. None of the dogs read signs, and many larger dogs view the small dogs as prey animals. This is not the fault of the large dog, purely instinct, It is the duty of the owners to protect their dogs. That includes not putting them into harms way. If the larger dog was getting along with all the other dogs, and suddenly a small dog appears and suddenly there is a problem, it could have been related to the fact that this owner put a 10 lb dog in front of a lot of larger dogs. And honestly, as a dog professional, while I know there are benefits to a dog park, there are also downsides as well. Safety in a dog park comes from responsible dog owners. Dog owners who pay attention to their dogs behaviors, and take the time to LEARN dog behavior well enough to know when there's a potential problem. If an owner follows the rules and does things correctly, they are still placing their dogs care into the path of other owners who may not know before. And most people that know pack behavior know it's not a good idea to put a small dog in with much larger ones they don't know. Many times this is terrifying to a small dog, and the small dog will act improperly, and set off a chain of events like the one the last reviewer described. Something that could have been avoided had the owner kept their small dog on the small dog side. Also, people should take the time to learn the unspoken rules of good dog park behavior if they're going to take the risks of going to a dog park. I personally will not go to a dog park, there are far too many "unknowns". I have however been to Central Park and for a dog park I find it to be decent. It's always people that create the problems however. You just have to know you're running a risk in any situation where animals are involved. read more

Taro and I had a good time here. A fight did break out but the owners were swift and cool with it afterwards. I was quite happy with that. Owner responsibility is very good at this park, and everyone's really knowledgeable. Hell...an owner went on watering the trees. There are pickup bags available but my only complaint is lack of grass and the heat. Why won't they grow grass here? read more

I'm still a fan, but, I'm afraid I have to update my review somewhat. I have encountered a couple of whack-a-doo people here; in my earlier review I mentioned I had yet to meet anyone truly inappropriate. I guess I wrote too soon. No thugish people, just some crazy older folks probably off their meds. Anyway, don't let that stop you from coming here; it's still a nice place. read more
