Too many aggressive dogs with owners who don't stop their dogs from being mean. I would say if you want to go here stand out side the fences for a bit and watch the dogs and people to judge if it is a good crowd or not. read more

I take my puppy here all the time and he loves it! There is plenty of space for him and any other dogs to run around. I like that have balls for the dogs to play with, which is nice when there aren't any dogs with whom my pup can socialize. We enjoy taking a picnic lunch with us sometimes and eating at the table they have inside the small dog area. I do wish there was more grass but it's probably hard to upkeep grass. I've heard that there is a lot of "cliquey" behavior among the people who come to this park but I've never had any issues. I've always found everyone to be very kind to my puppy and friendly to me. Probably my biggest complaint is that there aren't really any signs to direct you to the dog park and that makes it very hard to find your first time out. My husband and I had never been to Central Park at all before coming to the dog park so we had a difficult time finding the dog section. We were about to leave when finally we saw some other dogs and followed them in the hope that they were going to bark park. I'm glad we made it though because it's definitely one of my puppy's favorite places to visit! I wish there were more off leash parks like this around SCV. read more

Great place to run the dogs. They love to play with the other dogs. Could use some more shade trees and seating. Unfortunately, there are some people who don't scoop their dog's poop, but most people are more conscientious. Love this park. Only problem is all the tennis balls brought in and left along with other toys. The ground is filled with bacteria from feces and urine, and these permeate the toys. If your dog gets sick with giardia or other illness, it's not the water, it's the toys. Take time to toss the toys if you come early. If you come, come armed with an air horn or a computer air duster in case there is a problem and you need to break up a situation. Use the air duster near not on the dog(s) for most altercations, and the air horn as a last resort. Trust me I have broken up two pits fighting as well as two chows...it works. We dont go on weekends, just weekdays. read more

This dog park use to be great. Now it's just a field of dirt and no shade. And when it's warm out there are too many rattle snakes for my liking. I haven't taken my dogs here in a long time because of that. How about some grass again?? Or a snake proof fence??? read more

Central Bark is a great place if everyone uses common sense. I was actually at the park on the day of Shitzu incident that the first reviewer discussed and the predominant pack at the time were extra big and included my Rottweiler mix, several bull dogs, a few pit bulls, and an 185 pound great dane. People need to remember not to put their small dogs in obviously hazardous situations----even just getting stepped on accidentally by an 185 pound dog can kill or seriously injure a dog under 10 pounds. Dog park incidents are the fault of irresponsible owners that do not understand pack behavior. Small dogs are often insecure and give off negative energy; so many large dogs view them as prey (purely by instinct). Owners need to be able to read their dog's behavior. Plus if you go to any dog park the little side is ALWAYS far more appropriate and SAFER for small dogs than the all dog side.....even if you think your dog can hang with the big boys. If everyone remembers these things then Central Bark will continue to be a great place to go with your dog. read more

If you've got a dog that you want to be able to let off the leash then this place is for you. Insanely friendly community of people. To get to Central Bark you'll need to walk through the park and have your pup on the leash, but once you're in the dog-park facilities they're free to be off the leash. Great spot in my opinion. And if you've got a strong dog you'd like to tire out while simultaneously getting a workout yourself you can go on the hiking trail directly next to it. A very convenient spot for those in the Santa Clarita Valley. read more

Really nice and lots of space. Never crowded and always very clean with lots of tennis balls and toys already there! We were forced to come here because our apartment community's dog park (Craphomes at Lost Canyon) is a feces-infested, soggy, smelly dump that is unusable. read more

Love this place the people here are great , when I got there everyone was in the small dog sized and they say my mom and I alone one the other side with our husky and cocker spaniel , so they moved over to where I was. There was also plenty of shade to go around and on our way out we got snow cones and they gave us free ice for our pups. read more

I have been to this park multiple times in the morning and really have mixed feelings about the larger dog play area. It does have the basics needed such as poop shovel and poop bags, fresh water and bowels, some shade towards the back and plenty enough room for a dog to run about. It is all dirt with some rock which does make me concerned when one of the dogs falls and slides when playing but all and all they're fine. There is also a great dirt path where you can take your dog around the park. I think its a 3 mile loop in total. That in my opinion makes a good location for letting the dogs release some of that energy. I do not agree with alot of the peoples feelings about proper dog play at this park. I read a comment saying something about how dogs will be dogs and that they make their own rules when it comes to play. DONT AGREE! Granted, there is a dog heirachy that is made but It would be like lord of the flies with out proper rules. Thats not saying to stop them from wrestling and playing like a dogs but there is an energy level that dogs can get too that I feel brings them to close to that animal side of them. Dogs can get hurt when that happens and i've seen it multiple times at this park. I have heard comments made by owners on multiple occasions saying "one at a time". While I agree dogs should not gang up on eachother it reminded me of a street fight. I have also heard owners making comments about how they had to buy wide leather collers to protect their dogs neck becuase other dogs will bite hard enough to draw blood or leave scars. I have seen on multiple occasions where a dog is getting to high energy and the owners either were not able to get their dog to stop or not making a move to intervene. All in all its a dog park so you cannot expect a perfect visit everytime you visit. There will be personalities that you will agree and disagree with when it comes to both the dogs and the owners. In my experience here people do mean well but I simply disagree with most of thier approaches to dog play. I have had good and bad days here and have simply learned to scout what dogs and owners are there before we go in to give us the best chance at a good dog romp. Be prepared to have fun when you come here but also be prepared to address some of the personalities that you may not agree with. Best wishes. read more

Frankly, I don't see how any of the dog parks in Santa Clarita get good reviews. Perhaps there are so few good dog parks in general that people have learned not to expect much. Central Bark is small, the surface is nothing but hard pack dirt, has no grass and little shade. What seating there is is located around the park perimeter, no where near the shade. Access is difficult, needing to cross a soccer field to get there. The Canyon Country park is even worse. There are no rest room facilities anywhere convenient to either dog park. It's very surprising that an area with so much open space has such poor dog facilities. Google "best dog parks in America" if you want to know what a real dog park looks like. The park on Mulholland Drive in Studio City is probably the best in LA County, but even that could be improved. At least they have some Andy Gumps in the parking lot, which is immediately adjacent to the park. I and my three dogs now opt to stay home and enjoy our large, grassy yard, even though the socializing aspect is missing. read more

You know what. I was at the dog park today with my two blue Pit Bulls and they have been going there for their ENTIRE LIFE. They ARE the sweetest dogs and I can't stand anybody talking crap about them and judging them! I go there and they are both playing good with EVERY dog as USUAL and then comes some old bitter man with a boxer with a bad attitude. You know what, I remember this man! He is a horrible person, he put my puppy on a leash when he was about 5 months old! FOR NO REASON... he said BECAUSE ITS A PIT BULL! I YELLED AT HIM telling his take my dog off the leash!!! HE WAS CHOCKING MY DOG!! I said let go of hiM! Your hurting him!!! Today when I was there, my dog was playing with his trying to get his dog's toy and accidently, he bit the boxer but it was a tiny little bite. This man just blows up at me telling me my dog is aggressive then starts talking crap about pit bull history!! What a dog hater! I hate this man, then he goes off telling me if i go there again, he will call the police! There's no way in hell this man will tell me what to do. They are dogs, it happens, if hes so afraid, he could leave because my dogs are GREAT with every single dog there but HIS dog... I WONDER WHY?? My dog was trying to go play with his boxer again and I was trying to keep them away because that old man was afraid being a little b**ch. He kept holding his dog up and his stupid dog kept barking at MINE... My dog didn't like that but he DIDNT attack back, his dog started attacking mine did NOTHING. This man is horrible person. He needs to stop bringing his dog to the park if hes so afraid because I know so many people who know my dogs and know they're the sweetest dogs. If they weren't they wouldn't be there. I travel the country with my three dogs and this is by far one of the worst dog parks we have been to. It is in the back past a huge field that you have to walk around. It's super inconvenient to walk 5 minutes to get to the gate with 3 big excited dogs. My dogs are great on leash but if you had a puppy or a dog who likes to pull I can see this being a huge hassle. Then when you get to the gate there is a huge sign warning of rattle snakes. This park has lots of children's areas that have no such warning signs. Why can they keep the snakes out of those areas but not do the same for the dogs? I bring my dogs to the park so they can play and relax I don't want to have to be constantly on the lookout for snakes. Also that huge field you have to walk around is all grass but the dog park is all pea gravel. There is not even a small patch of grass for the dogs. For such a huge park the dog area seems like an afterthought and it was extremely disappointing. read more

the park around this dog park is great with lots of paths and trees to walk through.The dog park itself is a decent size. There are actually two dog parks side by side. One for large, one for small dogs. I've been going for 3 months now and haven't had any real issues. I go mornings as I was warned early on that the afternoon crowd is less attentive to their pets. The morning crowd is super social, friendly and tend to be older and mind their pets. There is always the occasional humper, but I'm not shy and will defend my dog. There is no grass and few trees, but recently the park started building a shade structure. There is a faucet with a stainless steel bowl to hydrate your dog. I've never seen rattlesnakes, but there is a sign warning of them... read more

I bring my dog to Central Bark a few times a week. We love going, but I'm always a little nervous that something will happen. I've seen fights between dogs, but I actually see more fights among owners than anyone. My main complaint with this place is the overprotective and uneducated owners who know absolutely nothing about dog play vs. dog fighting. My dog is about 55-60 pounds, so I keep him on the "all dogs" side, however, I think this should be reserved for large dogs only. Every time a small, SUBMISSIVE/Timid dog comes to this side, problems occur. Why should small dogs get their own park, but the big dogs have to share with the mostly obnoxious and wimpy small dogs? They ruin it for everybody. People forget that dogs are animals, not humans. They don't behave the way we would in social situations. Humanizing your dog is very bad for them, and it's very frustrating to see SO MANY people doing this. My dog does have some issues with aggression, but it depends on the dog he's dealing with. He could be playing with 20 different dogs with no problem. All of a sudden, a new dog will come in, and he'll go after it. When I say go after it, I mean he plays rough or wrestles with them or he humps. He may even bark at them. Sometimes it's because they may just be sitting there by the bench, and he really wants them to play with him or chase them/be chased by them. He NEVER attacks or bites. Many owners understand that my dog's behavior is the nature of certain dogs, others have a problem with it. I haven't had any major fights with owners, but I have had a few that could have escalated. I don't know what it is about certain dogs that sets him off. He could sense that they're too aggressive, too submissive or an unfixed female. I never know. But ultimately he may push them around for 2-5 minutes, and then it's over. And he's never hurt any dog. So I bring him there knowing that he will not hurt anyone or any dog, but that some owners could have a problem with his personality. I always correct him, but if he sets his sights on a dog, he will keep doing it until it's out of his system. And yes, it is just playing, but it can come across that he's trying to cause harm. I definitely feel like most owners there are clueless. They treat their dogs like babies, and they send out this energy that they themselves (the owners) are scared that something will happen. Dogs sense this, and it makes them uncomfortable. That's when bad energy between dogs can occur. When owners are calm, generally the dogs will be. I love my dog so much, and I know he is a good boy. He does have some issues that I am working on with him. But I get very angry when anyone addresses him inappropriately. I have had a few incidents where people were swatting at him like they might hit him, while he was maybe playing a little rough with their dogs. I became very angry at those people. If you hit my dog, YOU will have a problem. I can promise people that. We know almost everyone there, and we get along with most dogs/owners there. But there are the occasional few who really get under my skin. And what drives me crazy is when someone brings in a dog who starts something with him, and then he gets blamed for defending himself. Because he may be louder than that dog, he gets looked at like he's the one being aggressive. Now, if he were to ever start a fight, of course I would break it up and scold him. But that has never happened. He has actually been attacked once by a Golden Retriever. I didn't know he was bleeding until we got home, but he had been bitten all up and down his leg. I've never seen that dog again. I would probably say something to the owner, but I wouldn't get too mad or make him feel bad. I would just let him know that this happened so that he can be aware that his dog has these issues. But my dog barks, and some people can't even handle that. It's very annoying. We'll still go, because overall he has a lot of dogs that he loves to play with and who love him. But I am considering looking elsewhere. But beware of the overprotective owners who have no idea how to differentiate play vs. fight. And yes, there are those who do not supervise their dogs which can also be annoying if something is happening that needs to stop. I have heard that there is a pitbull who attacks, but I haven't seen it with my own eyes. Just enter at your own risk, I guess is what I'm trying to say. I have mixed feelings about this place, but am trying to work with my dog on his issues so that his experience can be pleasant each time, not just 95% of the time. If he's always good, then maybe other misbehaved dogs and owners won't affect him as much. read more

I feel compelled to speak.....since this is the only dog park in the area, we are a captive audience. Besides having no shade, minimal seating, no grass, etc., the biggest issue I have observed is "owner attitude". Owners of aggressive dogs are either blinded by their love for their animal and do not see the potential dangers OR they enjoy observing dogs biting, fighting and otherwise not getting along. The dog park is supposed to be for "good canine citizens". Children who misbehave in school can be "expelled"...why don't the same set of rules apply to dogs that misbehave. Dogs and owners with bad attitudes need to be expelled from the park! read more
