On our way out Captain Will briefed us, I sat up there to ask questions to see how I can up our odds of catching. I really wanted my kids and wife to catch. Will was very confident we will have a great time. Well I'll just put it this way. He went way above and beyond. The first 10 minutes lines were in the water we were already bent. 100lb halibut, yellow eyes, more halibut and even big lingcod are coming in. All fricken day. What a great time. Well, this is kind of a different review I am writing…read more I actually never took a fishing trip out on the waters of Homer, Alaska with this...North Country Halibut Charters. But... I was walking along the boardwalk area of the downtown Homer Spit section and a boat tour cruise had just completed their expedition. Now afterwards, the passengers were getting a firsthand glimpse into watching their freshly caught king salmons being fileted. Little did I know that after you go out on a fishing charter for the day...it's only customary to then return to the pier and clean and filet your catches. Lol, I have zero fishing experience. So...in getting to watch a professional fisherman/woman do all this for their passengers and witnessing it all with my very own eyes was fascinating! I even recorded it live and added it to my YT Channel...for entertainment purposes only, lol. It was a terrific little exposition, in just how easy it was for the girl to cut open the salmon while efficiently demonstrating her knifing skills. And there was a huge crowd standing around and watching her too. I asked the fisherwoman if I could take a few photos and record a little of her precise fileting and she said that would "be okay and it's fine"...pretty normal for what tourists like myself typically like to do when being exposed to such a cool demonstration. In fact, the girl had a tip jar situated right beside the table counter and of course I happily left her $5 for allowing me to watch. I was quite impressed with her experience, comfortabilities and technique handling such large fish! You could just tell this fisherwoman has been out on the high seas plenty of times and appearing so natural at it all. Unfortunately, I never did take a fishing cruise while in Homer, but after enjoying this fileting demonstration, I started thinking that maybe I should consider participating in a charter in my future travels to all these incredible Alaskan seaports...where they're famously known for catching some of the best fish in the world! In the end, I just appreciated how the tour group caught 5 salmon on their adventure and were now going to enjoy a fresh seafood dinner. Also, the fish they caught were king salmon which I believe are the most prestigious type of salmon you can find. This fileting demonstration was such a pleasant surprise as I was leisurely walking the boardwalk area of downtown Homer Spit. I'm glad I got to experience it.

There were just two other clients, and we quickly settled in for a one hour ride to the hot spot. The seas were rough, and we ended up in the lee of the islands across from the Homer Spit. We quickly boated a few smaller kings, then nailed a nice 20 pounder. Deckhand Cody worked like a maniac to keep five rigs in the water at all times. He changed up the gear multiple times to pinpoint what the fish were hungry for. Three limits of winter kings later, we sailed back to port. If you are looking for a quality fishing trip at any time of the year, look no further. BAA will be fishing winter kings until April, then switching to combo halibut trips starting in June. I highly recommend Josh and his crew.

Captain B was excellent from the minute we got on the boat to when we disembarked.. a true pro with 33 years experience he said. We had beautiful weather and started out going for King Salmon with down riggers. The Deckhand Randy was also good and started out by stating he had "Saved 8 men overboard" & "I got the biggest balls in Homer". We started catching right away and Captain B would come down to net the bigger fish and mutter "Randy.. your a disaster today" I think it was all part of the act! We caught the KING limit and silver limit in no time without losing many fish at all.. maybe it was the walking stick?? Captain B then took us to a beautiful cove.. complete with a BAR to finish the day fishing for Rockfish! After about an hour we had the limit in Rocks and headed to the bar but the Captain couldn't find it? Nice ride in watching Randy filet all the fish! Great charter/ great time.. highly recommend. Captains Clint and Max did their best to get us on fish while still keeping us safe. Deckhands Ethan and Riley were knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. Obviously captains can't control the weather and the way fish bite, but the effort put in to giving us a great experience was evident. We went out during what is considered "post-season" and still managed to limit out on halibut 2 of our 3 trips. Memories made for a lifetime, and I'm sure we'll be back someday.

We made a day of it, driving to Homer from Kenai, making our way through beautiful country, till the vista opens up and you see the breathtaking 180 degree view of the Kenai Mountains - jagged iron black mountains covered with snow and glaciers over the blue Kachemak Bay. A short drive through town and you end up on the Homer Spit, reaching far out into the Bay. With tours and artisan stores abounding, we opted for our reservation on the Danny J. The staff, many of whom are talented artists in their own right, were friendly, talented, and knowledgeable. In addition to skillful ocean navigation, one of the deck crew navigated around a full fledged two-year-old tantrum by carefully working her through wearing a life vest. The one hour ride across the bay to Halibut Cove included a full circle of Bird Rock, where Murres, Cormerants, Gulls, and even Puffins abound. We also saw sea otters playing. Hike and picnics in Halibut Cove if your budget is tight, or go ahead and eat at the Saltry - the food is fresh, home grown, home baked, with a big focus on sea food - but a bit spendy. Many artist studios and stores are within walking distance - all on the multi-level board walk - so enjoy and buy a few things. Get back on the boat at 4 pm for a quick half hour trip back to Homer (sans bird tour). This adventure as up there as one of our most memorable, most perfect travel days ever. Can't recommend them more!

He is a former wildlife and marine biologist, and knew a lot about the history of the area, something we were really interested in. We saw bald eagles, puffins, otters, seals and many other types of birds. Also got to visit Halibut cove and Gill Island. Glen also followed COVID-19 protocols, which was extremely important for us. A highlight of the trip was a great salmon dip that Glen had made for us, and also all the his stories. We would definitely recommend Glen if you want to do a wildlife tour in the Kachemak Bay from Homer.
