And picked the specific location because it was convenient. When I saw that the clinic had reopened from being 'under reconstruction' (in December and January), I phoned and made an appointment. The facility was "shiny new" in appearance for my appointment -- exceptionally bright, neat, and clean. I was quickly processed, and within a few minutes was inside one of the inner offices to see the RHIP (Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner). She explained - in a very cordial and professional manner - what the testing would encompass. The testing was conducted in her office, and within an adjacent soundproof room. And when completed, I was shown graphical results, and explained what they meant re: my hearing. She then volunteered to forward results of my tests to the doctors seeking this information. I was very impressed with the courteous, and professional treatment received at Hearing Life, and direct a big 'thumbs up' to anyone seeking the same.

This review is about my visit and Colleen Poole, who conducted the test and interview. Colleen was friendly, clear, extremely competent, very helpful, and very informative but not pushy in the least. At their request, I brought a friend who knows me well, and she was equally impressed. Should I decide, or perhaps I should say when I decide, to get hearing aids, Colleen and this office of HLC will be on the short list. Katarina did a thorough exam and to my surprise put in a demo hearing aid at the end of my exam that enabled me to hear all the sounds I had been missing all these years! How could that be? Well, I looked into it and Katarina is an audiologist while the person I saw (twice) at the other place is a Hearing Instrument Practioner (HIP). Most customers may be well served by a HIP but for those of us with a bit more complicated situation, an audiologist like Dr Katarina is needed. Of course she can help those with more common hearing issues too. Within a week or two after my assessment I got my own customized hearing aid. Over a series of complementary appointments Katarina slowly increased the volume of the hearing aid and showed me how to care for it. Right from day one it felt comfortable to the point I forget I am wearing anything - no problems at all. I found Katarina to be very professional, kind and personable. Her competence is obvious as soon as you meet her. She told me her oldest patient is 102 (!) and her youngest is in her early teens. Her new office is bright and attractive. The location is convenient and comes with easy, free parking under the building or on surrounding streets.

Don't be confused as I was, at first, when she refers to your having an appointment for plugs (earplugs). A simple setup where for a pair of sleeping earplugs (super comfy without a measurable decibel rating which isn't encouraging), a stirrup of cotton is placed into both ear canals with the injection of a liquid putty material which prior to setting in 5 minutes, your advised to open and close at least five time to help form any allowances of canal movement. You then choose from a few colour options, are led up front to pay, and advised they'll contact you in two weeks. Fingers crossed. Referred by my boss at the dental clinic (her husband was a huge snorer prior to two operations to help relieve it or at least reduce)

NexGen told me that sometimes they had to redo molds for their custom ear plugs…read more After 90 days of waiting for 3 mold remakes, NexGen was never able to make a pair that did not hurt my ears. Every morning I wake up with at least one sore ear, but the reason I didn't accept their offer to return my money is that I need these ear plugs to block out the sound of my noisy next door condo neighbours. It's either pain or sleep deprivation. So I wear them, but wake up in pain every morning. It is now obvious to me that the reason my ear plugs are painful is: - the material used for the ear plugs is silicone which is quite hard - the edges of the ear plugs are not smoothly rounded in some places, and these sharp edges dig into my ear while I'm sleeping on my side I honestly think I could do a better job than NexGen. When I can stomach another attempt at getting custom ear plugs, there are other custom ear plug manufacturers in the Lower Mainland, and at least one uses material different to what NexGen's ear plug manufacturer uses. Another negative I experienced at NexGen is that each time I had to return the ear plugs for a remake, I was given an appointment with a different technician or audiologist. Four in all. Four. It was extremely annoying because I had to re-explain the situation each time and redevelop a sense of trust with each one. One claimed that I had been to her before, which I had not, as if making me out to be a "problem" customer. And one of their receptionists was rude towards me from my first visit. I really felt disrespected by NexGen. Although I deserve a refund, I need these ear plugs to counteract my noisy neighbours even though they cause me significant pain. It's a bad situation.
