I recently had a home inspection done by Mike with this company. Initially I felt like he was OK but was put off by the fact that he did not include estimates for potential repairs in the report. I have recently purchased other homes and this was part of the report. He stated he had been out of the business for too long and couldn't make estimates which I thought was weird because there are plenty of websites that you can reference for approximate costs. After purchasing the home a neighbor came over and was telling us that the cabin is not winter ready. Apparently the plumbing should run under the crawlspace and ours runs shallow in the ground meaning that it will freeze easily. Neither did the seller disclosed it nor did Mike happen to notice that there was no plumbing running underneath of the crawlspace. I asked him to come out again and take a look at this issue so that we would know if our cabin could be used in the winter. He never responded to my emails or voice mail and this is definitely something that we needed to know. If you're in Michigan, most of the year is winter. To get the plumbing run through the crawlspace could be several thousand dollars. Now instead of enjoying a year round cabin which we thought we were getting, we have to spend tons of money or adjust to the idea that it's a summer home. read more

At the time, I thought Mike had done a good and complete job on inspecting the house I was buying. After closing, we found a water leak problem that he had missed. It ended up costing me $1895 to get it fixed. I filed a claim with the insurance, as Central Home Inspections told me to, they were a joke. I then had a conversation with Mike where he told me that that must have happened after his inspection. As no one was living in the house I found that hard to believe, especially after the repair person and the plumber both looked at the problem and agreed that the problem had been present for a long time. Mike told me he would look into it and get back to me. He never did. Now after several call, he has not responded. If he would have found the problem the seller would have paid for the repairs. So now I am out almost $3000 for an inspection and repairs and I don't know if there are other problems he missed. If he had just responded to me I wouldn't be so perturbed, but he didn't and I am. read more

we had mike come out to inspect our home and he was very in depth with his inspection and very informative throughout the entire inspection he went above and beyond looking through the house, i asked him what he thought getting rid of the baseboard heating and installing a furnace and as he walked through showing me where everything is routed he had found a spot where copper tubing was pushed against the floor joist and had actually started to smolder while the boiler was heating up he had quickly shut all the thermostats off and grabbed some water to put out the what could have been house fire. i would recommend using central home inspection. read more

Mike Raines was polite and quick and a nice guy but failed to put many problematic items he spoke of into the home inspection that he mentioned verbally. He also missed many many items that would have prevented the purchase of the home. Items such as doors that did not shut, cracks in walls, mold under sinks, lights that failed to work, kitchen counters that drained water to the walls, windows with broken seals, leaking pipes, improper electrical wiring with open junctions etc. I understand you cannot capture all defects but many were very basic a home inspector should have caught. He also gave my information to some company in Texas who spammed me with warranty request for months without my permission. read more
