They removed the former bricks, dug down and put a base down. Then they graded everything to make it level. The next step was to put the bricks down and add more bricks to go all the way to my patio. But the result was much more, the variety of flowers, shrubs and trees, (some bearing berries for birds) is the envy of the entire neighborhood. The plants have matured into a planned "painting" of contrasting foliage. My experience is that money spent outside of the house goes further than remodel money spent inside...maybe it is the "alive" thing that plants have.
