Even after I read the reviews I tried to give Collin College a chance. The few staff members I interacted with were helpful, prompt in getting back to me and gave insightful advice. They also added some information that needs to be updated along with information on who to ask for what. This is the most the most draining and absolute worst time applying at this college. There is a huge lack of coordination and experience applying to this college. They request so much information... repeatedly. It's ridiculous. Worst application process ever! Not sure what to say about the admissions, tech support and the veterans office, except all around, very little to non existent engagement, along with a huge lack of coordination on doing anything that I spoke with them about. These people seem to like to pass their roles onto you for applying as well as on other departments. Plenty of repetitive emails about the same issues. No one in these departments seem to keep track of any information related to my transcripts that had already arrived or the one that they needed for which I gave them the response I received from CCAF. They also never passed this information on to another department who contacted me about this. I was not aware that the veteran's department at any college did transcript evaluations. I thought that was the job of the admissions department. Here it seems to be a different case. So for that matter why doesn't the admissions staff get with the veteran's staff and send one email to include all staff who needs to be involved in one email to me? I had to suggest this approach to them to streamline the process. This information I gave to them went nowhere, since I was still contacted from the veteran's department on what I already emailed to admissions. Now, it does not take having a degree to use common sense on how to get things done efficiently, but apparently at Collin College it seems to be that way. Once called the veterans department and asked what services they offered and the young man basically said what questions do you need answered. This your department's job not mine and you need to know what you offer or just find another job somewhere else. The other times were just emails between myself and the veteran's office. I already have a higher level degree from a very reputable university here in Texas. This same university already did the work of seeing what credits from my lower degree would transfer to eliminate taking the same prerequisites. The other universities for which I left due to changing my degree plan we're also looked at for this same reason and I was able to complete my BAS degree. But at Collin College, where I was seeking a lower level,AAS degree to accommodate my current degree, experience and job options, they requested transcripts from the other universities I left and never returned. How does that make it any logical sense? It does not make any logical sense. You saw my BAS degree where those other places I left were already evaluated on the transcripts and still thought it was a good idea to ask me for those transcripts to evaluate. I have to wonder though if this is some planned attempt at getting their acceptance numbers up on paper to justify job security and to get VA money. Also it's either laziness, a lack of competence or who knows what to try and understand this place. From the beginning and still dealing with uncoordinated departments, robotic replies to the same questions I have asked, I am disgusted and no longer going forward in attending. I will contact the appropriate people on the process of applying to this place and the lack of helpful engagement to prospective students which it does not provide. Also, remove my name from the acceptance list, since I am no longer attending. If down the line this issue with Collin College comes up as to why they made it seem like I dropped or stopped applying to make it seem like I am unaccountable. Our daughter goes to UNT but was advised that if she completed 2 math classes over the summer she could graduate early. She found the classes she needed at this McKinney location, registered and enrolled online. Easy! The campus is very small. We had to use Google maps to find its physical location. Theres no obvious signs that this is the McKinney campus. We drove around the circumference of the property trying to figure out which building is the main building. We gave up, parked, and walked in. We figured out where we needed to go and then figured out where we needed to park. The library is an independent building, not connected to the main campus, but it is walking disance. The outside elevation of this library is exquisite! The inside is just as impressive, definitely a great place to study. They offer many services to students like computers, printing, as well as renting GoPros, video cameras, etc. Theres an a area next to the library currently under construction. I couldn't find anything about it. My guess is more classrooms. Also under contruction is a Starbucks and Cafe that might be up and running by Fall of 2022. The Computer Lab at this campus is state of the art! Looks like they got new computers this semester -- by the smell of it, lol. There were approximately 55+ Dell & 10 Macs, not counting the computers in the classrooms next door. They also have printers for students (FYI: $30.00 spending allowance per smester). Nice! The campus in general is very outdated, but they have invested a lot into updating the furniture, new flooring, paint and equipment. If you rely on an elevator, I only found one. The campus has many many many, wide, open stairwells but no elevators nearby. There is a call button on the wall if you need help specifically your wheelchair. I have no idea how that works? Looks like the latest addition to the campus is the parking garage. I'm sure during the Fall & Spring semesters the parking situation is insane. Still haven't been helped at this college. They don't have a catalog with classes you have to find everything on line or make calls. They can't find my transcript which has been mailed twice to them. They don't transfer you to the right people, no one knows anything they want your money, but won't help you. The clerks try to act like they are college educated but give you wrong advice. The clerk I talked to over the phone told me to email a copy of my unofficial opened transcript that it would be sufficient, not true it did not help at all and they don't know who received my email or even look it up. They keep telling me to send emails and leave messages but no one responds. Their bookstore is run by Barnes and Noble so there is no one you can talk on the phone at their bookstore. I do not want to pay for anything till I have reassurance that they received my transcript and processed it. Never had any problems like this with two prior colleges I have attended in the part. About to give up on this place and find another college that knows how to handle simple student registration procedures. read more

When I was a kid, this was a great piece of farm land to go hunting for small game. I don't hunt small game anymore, but do hunt dangerous storms and tornadoes and this college campus hosted this year's Collin County SKYWARN Training provided by the Ft Worth National Weather Service office! (The training teaches the latest information on storm spotting, safety and methodology which in turn, helps provide critical information to governments and agencies to protect others.) The facility is well maintained and allows multimedia to be shown to many! The restrooms are immaculate, the parking lot is huge! The foyer is large which allows many exhibits! The location is near many restaurants and fast food places that didn't exist 45 years ago or I might not have needed to hunt small game. It is ironic that where this facility now sits, was next to the pasture where I got caught out in the open by a golf ball size hail storm. I am wiser and less bruised these days. My only complaint is I wish the padded chairs had more padding and more curvature as after 6 hours, they leave one with a flattened derriere. read more

If it wasn't for the Campus and admissions staff, who have been wonderful, I would have given a lower rating. My child (dual credit student) signed up for a specific section based on the professor's high rating. That professor was changed without anyone being informed. The new professor has a horrible rating and all of the complaints about her on rate my professor are correct. Had we been informed of who the new professor would have been, we could have looked her up and tried to switch classes or at least drop it before it was too late! She is condescending and makes inappropriate remarks regarding people that have religious beliefs. This did not seem to be a problem with the department. However you can read here, they claim to have an anti discrimination rule regarding religious beliefs specifically (https://www.collin.edu/hr/boardpolicies/june2023/FFDBapproved.pdf#search=Religious%20beliefs) I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion. But have some situational awareness and keep your bigoted commends to yourself. This is a place of higher education. Ridiculing people for believing in God should not be tolerated. She was unclear about her expectations on assignments and exams from the start. She experimented on the class with a new exam format, which 28/30 of her students in that class failed! She told the kids to ignore certain instructions that were written but somehow the unwritten instructions they should have figured out on their own! I watched her turn students away who were trying to understand why they got their grade and what they could do about it, with little to no feedback. The department did not seem to show much regard for the complaint brought forth by my child. I don't know if any of the other students came forward to complain. They expressed concern in doing so. I can't blame them, the professor had the full backing of her department and it felt like a fruitless endeavor. Even though it was admitted the exam format was not ideal it fell within the professors right to experiment on the kids. In the end my child ended up with a W on her transcript. It was either that or attempting to transfer her to another professor's class, who had similar complaints against her. So she would be going from one bad situation to another. Make sure to double and triple check who is teaching the class, last minute changes can happen and can be costly to your child's education and pocket! read more

It's getting a 5, because the facility was nice and had everything I believe you could ask for that a college student needs to learn. The medical side is the best, by far, in my opinion. Now, our tour guide pushed me away once he started talking about what he has to pay for tuition and this is not a collegiate school. This is a 2yr program except for 3 degrees you can now get your bachelor's degree in. If you have the bread, good luck to you sir/ma'am and I hope your child knocks it out of the park. read more

Well...the enrollment staff people I encountered were very nice and helpful to the degree they could be, and thy are the ONLY reason for the second star. The Collin College application and registration process is insanely and maddeningly antiquated. In the end, after numerous phone calls and with the help four CC employees, I did get enrolled and am very pleased with the class and instruction. It just may not be worth the time it takes to enroll. It is worth noting that I've located, signed up, paid for and attended classes in Dallas CC with minimal effort; but as a Collin Co taxpayer I should not have to drive to another friggin county to take classes just because Collin's technology is so inept. Since the administrators earn in the $200k range they should be able to hire someone whose frame of reference for good technology is somewhat current; otherwise the money we spent on the technology campus is, well, just absurd. Talking with a friend who has teens and is a substitute HS teacher, the dual credit enrollment process is just as frustrating for these students and parents. For the purpose of this review, I'm reviewing the college bookstore ONLY. If I were reviewing the professors and/or overall educational properties, it'd be 4 stars. The bookstore at this campus has a notorious reputation for milking it's students and I honestly believe it is committing financial aid fraud. This semester, against the advice of several students I rented a math textbook from the CPC campus bookstore. They had advised me that they had never been able to return a book; the bookstore head honcho, a woman who refuses to come out and speak to you (coward), will find any excuse to make you pay for the book. They all rented the book using financial aid, and then when it came time to return, they were told that they needed to pay full price because of "water damage", "indentation" or some insane thing. One girl actually used those little sticky tabs to keep pages organized, and even though she removed them the coward in the back said she could tell that there were indentation spots from them. Here's the good part: they won't refund you the rental fee, so they keep that AND get you to pay out of pocket. I rented a book for $118. When they said I needed to pay $219 for the book, I asked to have that money refunded towards the purchase. Nope. That's how they get financial aid money AND your money. So I'm supposed to pay $118 and $219 for the book? The book was not damaged. It hasn't been used. They said there was water damage. There were two spots that might have come from a rain droplet. Nothing impeded the book's use. Here's what I don't get: the book would have to be marked "used" no matter what for the next person, yet it needs to be returned in brand new condition? Also, they offered to buy the $219 for $18. Really? I'm mostly concerned because this is super common for them. I've yet to meet someone who didn't get scammed. Will never ever do business with them again. read more

The teachers are great. i'm giving it three starts because their advisors are flat out rude, useless and disrespectful and ridiculously slow. I go to this campus for my classes and another campus for the advisors. It ridiculous. read more

There are good professors here, but the school has limited resources for students and they're not too concerned about it. There's no tutoring, no accommodations for disabled people, the veterans office is absolutely useless and the women in charge is professionally unequipped to do her job. If she doesn't like you, she won't do anything for You, and that in itself is unethical on so many fronts. They want you to shut up, go to school and pay them. Some of the teachers are increasingly mean and jaded so don't expect much in the lines of having your voice heard. I will say the enrollment staff is very good and the student advisors are also very helpful. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend anyone go to this school. DCCCD blows them away on every checkmark. Don't waste your time going to Collin, ESPECIALLY if you're a veteran. They're no help and they don't care at all. read more

My favorite Collin campus!! It's huge, beautiful, very close to a lot of places nearby (there's even a back bridge to walk over), and I love the professors. The library is wonderful and so is the health department, and tons of parking and scenery! One thing I like the most compared to Frisco's is the ceilings aren't so short and the interior's just better kept, and it's all very easy and connected. I'm from the Frisco area so I actually like not being around so many people I know and can meet more. I've gotten great opportunities and scholarships here. read more

I would just like to say that I love this campus of Collin College. The buildings are nice and classrooms are a good size. The library is such a nice place to go and work on homework or to just chill out. However, the one thing that I would say is that they need to get some real on-site food at this campus. All the food that they have, the students have to buy from a vending machine. There is no cafe or any sandwiches that you can buy. You would have to go to Racetrack next door or get in your car, lose your parking spot, and go across 380 to get some food. I have been to the campus at Spring Creek and they have some little cafe's for the students to have actual food. Very disappointed in the food contract the college has. read more

Wow this review is left for the amazingly helpful women in the advising department at the Central Park Campus. First, Sonia Castillo went above and beyond to help me. She cheerfully answered my questions over the phone and warmly greeted me with a smile upon entering the advising room asking me what I was needing today. Even while waiting for my advising appointment she went out of her way to answer additional questions for me, gave me helpful material, and even asked admissions personnel in the room next door (A lovely Miss Shay , who was very kind and helpful) for answers/advice for me! The smallest of questions/concerns that I had, Sonia made sure I got a final, clear answer! When dealing with staff in an academic setting, I have truly NEVER been treated with such respect and a genuine interest in wanting to help a student. I then had the PLEASURE of advising with Lisa Gibbs who was extremely helpful and patient with me for my entire appointment!! Lisa answered all of my (many) questions and concerns with a clear answer, took the time to go through my transcript and explained all of the options to me, gave me additional helpful tips/advice, and genuinely made me laugh/smile with her positive attitude/interpersonal skills and true willingness and desire to help me! I just want to acknowledge and thank these kind women for not just doing their jobs, but for doing them the best way that they can. I have been through multiple academic institutions and I have NEVER been treated with such respect and a willingness to help the student. Also, the teamwork and positive attitudes that I noticed amongst the staff as a whole is definitely worth noting. Very impressed. I didn't have time to speak to management in person to say this on these ladies behalf because I had to go back to work. The Spring creek campus truly needs to take notes from Central Park. The nursing program is a joke. Don't be fooled by the sparkles of the new health science building, and the "Center of Excellence" designation. I spent a semester in the program, and had the absolute worst semester of my life dealing with negative professors treating and talking to us like elementary school kids! Not to mention their testing environments were ridiculous, and grading is purely subjective! Especially for the skills tests. Professors do NOT advocate for students like they claim, and just because you turn in your work... does not mean you will get a grade. I've had professors lose my stuff, then call me a liar during a meeting with her and the level coordinator while listening to them tell me how I'm irresponsible, then turn around days later and find my work, then not apologize!!! Check your work. Most likely you got another student's work back by accident since they have no accountability for the professors. Integrity?!?! Forget about it! The Dean and the Provost completely dismissed our issues (yes more than one student, and issue). If you have a second choice... Please do yourself a HUGE favor and go somewhere else!!! My positive and exciting time in my life turned into a living hell in this one semester here in nursing school!!! I am transferring to a bachelor program, and refuse to go back. read more
