After several purchases and great experiences, they began shorting me books from every other order. Today, they've shorted me another 3 books. Often times I'd order and pay for hardcover books but receive a paperback. I notice that the higher end or collectors editions magically are unavailable and tend to be credited back to your payment method. I'm done with them. Tried to support the library system and feel a bit taken advantage of.

Chartered in 1744, many of the buildings and houses were built in the 1700s and are now part of the town's historic charm. Population of about 200, Port Royal sits next to the Rappahannock River in the Northern Neck of Virginia just off of the James Madison Memorial Bridge. While exploring area, be sure to check out the Port Royal Museum to get a snapshot of this town's significance. It was here that James Wilkes Booth was shot, and also had some Civil War action as well. Tool around the roads off of Route 301 to capture the feel of PR. You will not only see some cool colonial architecture, but you will find a wildlife refuge and some other points of interest. There are several restaurants on the main road, and Horne's is a great travel pit stop! There are several antique shops and a trading post dotted along the highway along with a produce stand and a municipal pier. It won't take long to explore this location but it will linger in your mind as a memorable experience.

It was very easy to find close to Colonial Beach VA in the same area where other famous people were born. Its close to George Wasington Birthplace also. The Visitors Center and actual House now museum was closed due to Covid-19 but the Grounds and park was open. There is plenty of signs and its a very very nice park to check out when visiting the area. Great to learn history with the kids and walk around the hiking trails!! Beautiful area! There are live human guides around but they do not walk the place with you but are available to answer any questions you might have. The recorded tour was very good with many options to hear the story of the place and its inhabitants. The enslaved and indentured folks who lived and worked here are well represented in the tour. We really enjoyed it and highly recommend a stop. We spent 2 solid hours inside the Plantation house and walking the grounds. You can stay as long as you wish. Located in Callao, on Route 360, this place offers everything you'll need for a tour of the rural Rivah life! I'm so glad I meandered to the back of the store and discovered the small office in the back. The clerk welcomed me and drew my attention to various points of interest in the area! I grabbed a couple of brochures, magazines and maps to enhance my visit to the Northern Neck! They have an official visitors guide which highlights nearby events, dining options, tours and landmarks. I signed the guest book and was surprised to see other visitors from all over the country! This little corner of the world certainly draws people to the beautiful scenery, the serene river views and the exceptional wildlife. I can't wait to explore more history and sites! If you suffer from "gephyrophobia", fear of bridges, the Downing bridge may help you conquer that…read morefear! Usually, I'm scared out of my "bridges" when I approach a bridge, whether I driving or a passenger, but this bridge gave me courage to "get over it". Although this is a steel stringer, narrow bridge with no shoulder, it's not too long nor too steep. It's just over a mile long, connecting Tappahannock and Warsaw. The water views across the bridge are quite pretty, especially nearing sunset. Cross the water, you'll see flocks of water birds resting on rustic pylons...they ap-"pier" to be herons, cranes, seagulls, and ospreys. If you pull over underneath the bridge by the Tappahannock side, you won't "egret" it. Weeping willows align the small field with a picnic area and there's a historic marker, a plaque and map describing the history of this part of the Rappahannock River. You can park and climb the rocks or even cast a line for fish. The Warsaw side of the bridge isn't quite so scenic. This bridge was named after a state senator, Thomas J Downing, who lived from 1867-1927. The bridge was constructed originally in 1927 which was a welcome change from the ferries that used to usher people across the River. Then in 1963, it was modernized to the bridge seen today carrying thousands of vehicles per day. As of an inspection in 2017, this bridge was deemed in poor-fair condition but needed some upkeep. Let's give this bridge some support!

It spans over the Rappohannock River, connecting the small town of Tappohannock to the even smaller town of Warsaw. Way back in the day, when we were invincible and clueless, aka, high schoolers, I had friends who seized that dubious double dog dare ya and went plunging into the river below. At night. All survived, but I would never recommend such folly. I know people who have bridge phobias. In my unprofessional opinion, I would rate this drive over as a level 4 on the anxiety scale (based on 1-10). Maybe a 5.8 if you are riding a motorcycle. * . If you are crossing over from the Tappahannock side, look to the tips of the barren trees on the right as you reach the end. You might catch sight of a Red Tail or an Eagle! The club house is also very well mantained as well as the pool. There are Tennis courts and a screened in Barbeque area as well. The staff are helpful and very friendly and especially welcoming to new neighbors/members. It is certainly the "Hidden gem" we were promised by our realtor when we were shopping for a vacation home.
