    The main administration building.

Late last month a longtime friend of mine passed away. As he was a veteran, there were three choices for his interment at a military cemetery here in Texas: Dallas, San Antonio, and Killeen. Dallas is a bit farther away from Austin, and San Antonio was out (he did his basic training there in 1963 and hated it!). So that left Killeen, which is likely the most peaceful of the three. The countryside is full of small towns, open fields and rolling hills, which he'd have enjoyed. I did not attend a full funeral ceremony here, so can't comment on that aspect of the place. However, it seems extremely well run, professional, and profoundly respectful to those who served our country with honor.

Laying of the wreaths 2017 - The first Saturday every year after Thanksgiving - Come and volunteer
    James W.

Another year has passed, and another laying of the wreaths has come and gone. We have made this event now for the last four years, and every year I see more and more volunteers showing up. Each year has seen between two and three thousand volunteers. This year was less than last year, but it was the weather, or was it? This event is held rain or shine as thousands of wreaths need to be laid on thousands of graves for the brave men and women who have fought for our country and our freedom. I was very honored, and very privileged this year to personally meet, Jean Shine, the Founder & President of Wreaths for Vets http://www.wreathsforvets.org/ .. Her story of endurance, hope, and faith is an incredible testimony. This is an awesome event that brings veterans, non-veterans, ROTC Cadets, Boy & Girl Scout Troops, soldiers, families, friends, and individuals together for ONE PURPOSE, and that is to HONOR OUR VETERANS who have gone before us. Every year, on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, this event takes place. Mark it on your calendar now, to attend next year. The ceremony starts at 10 AM, and last for about 15 minutes, then the wreaths are placed, one on every grave, and sometimes two, if a spouse is laid to rest with the veteran. There are between five snd six thousand graves currently in this cemetery, and sadly, growing what seems like daily. But come early !!! Around 8:30 AM, hundreds of motorcycles from the Veteran Riders Clubs, drive in, escorting the two fourteen wheeler trucks carrying the wreaths. They sale t-shirts and caps as a fund raiser, or you can donate on-line. It's a very moving, and great event, and I would love to see hundreds of Yelpers volunteering next year !!! Until then, God Bless our Veterans, and God Bless the U.S.A. !!!

    Graves of Soldiers

Was there for Brother in Laws Funeral. The place was immaculate, nothing out of place. Everything was explained so nothing would go wrong. From the playing of taps to the soldiers folding of the flag and the presentation to my sister. Everything was precessions and excellence. I had seen it done on TV before but never experienced it first hand. Gave me chills as we as naturally brought tears my eyes.

My sister and i were really hurt when our father went home to glory. Mr. Leon Chisolm arrived about 1am but we were waiting for two family members to arrive. Mr. Leon introduced himself and said, "Take as long as you need I'll wait in the lobby." Mr. Leon explained to us the process and told us, that we could cone visit our father anytime up until the service. That act of kindness made us feel good. We met at the funeral home and made the arrangements and Mr. Leon made sure we didn't over spend. Mr. Leon and his staff made sure that we did not have to do any of the leg work. The staff made us feel like family and happy we used their services. Amazing group of people. Thank you on behalf of the Fields Family.

I'd like to start out with the fact that I was veryyyyy close to giving this place a full 5 stars…read more A couple of things affected the rating: we didn't get any deadlines for items we needed, and there was some untracked communication. For my mother's obituary we were told we needed it pretty much the day before and we didn't have much time to get it together. I also got called early morning to iron out some details for the limo ride set up. Later on all the information was repeated to me at a call like it was brand new information. This was incredibly frustrating and knocked a star off of my review. Now for why I loved this place. I visited here with my dad while my mom was in ICU still. They sat us with a coordinator, and he guided us through all the available options we had with them. At no point did he try to upsell us anything. If we wanted to look at certain upgrades or features, we were welcome to ask and take a look, but he was always clear about what was necessary and what wasn't. This place had staff on site during the visitation to guide people to the correct rooms, ensure masks were being worn (We didn't have a problem with this.), and to answer any questions. In addition to this, they were with us during the mass and the burial. I could tell my mom was well cared for, and so was my family. They treated us so well and were incredibly understanding while we were going through this tough process. I would actively recommend this Chisolm's Family Funeral Home & Florist if you are ever in need of it.

We had to repeat answers several times. Contracts weren't ready for us to sign, she had to keep going out and coming back into meeting. Spelled my mother's name for her...she misspelled it twice on the paperwork after that. Emailed her the obituary we had written, she didn't even bother to check her email before asking us for it. We had requested a private family service before a memorial service, but she posted the private family service in the newspaper instead of the memorial service, and she spelled my mother's name wrong again. When I brought it to her attention she blamed it on the newspaper. I spoke to the newspaper and they informed me that the funeral home sends the obituary to them directly. When I came to see how she had prepared my mother for viewing, no one even acknowledged me when I entered the building. I stood in the lobby for at least 10 minutes before funeral director came out of the chapel and said she was ready for me to see my mother, even though there was a lady sitting in an office in the lobby area. I don't find them to be very professional nor compassionate. I would not recommend this facility for your loved ones final preparations. Kimberly Eakin

From the moment we contacted them, the team at Crotty was professional, compassionate, and incredibly responsive. They treated us with genuine care and made sure every step was handled thoughtfully. They were attentive to our needs and also provided services specifically designed to support parents with younger children, which meant so much to our family. Every person we interacted with carried themselves with grace and professionalism. They were organized, patient, and kind -- traits that are so important during such a vulnerable time. I truly felt like they cared about us and about honoring my daughter with dignity and respect. I can't express enough how grateful I am to Crotty Funeral Home. They brought some peace to a situation that felt impossible. I only wish we had gone to them from the very beginning.

But unfortunately my family had already made the decision. The deco resembling that of a sleazy night club/lounge set in the 1970's. The owner Adrian did not seem to have any care or concern for my family's loss. Praying with the family seemed more formality than anything. This is a place that should have never existed in any community let alone central Texas. The empathy shown was only for his his bottom line. If you are looking for a professional do not come here. There was no checklist nor outline given to the family that detailed what to expect for the next couple of days prior to the funeral. The only concern was when the payment would come. Who was paying and how much money they would receive. Then and only then, would we receive more information. They did not deduct the items that we asked them to remove. They charged us for a plastic floral arrangement, that the owner (Adrian) picked out. I should have expected nothing less, from an individual wearing purple shoes. Then when we naturally complained they took it off the bill. They stole the design I created for my brother's program and video and repurposed it for their use. This was done without my expressed consent or written permission. This is illegal for individual, company or other wise. They told us the night before the viewing they were closed. Which was confusing, as if they forgotten the viewing was the very next day. After that call we were called once more and asked if we could come at 8 p.m. to bring his clothes. The next day, the viewing was so unorganized, we had a video prepared that we wanted shown during the viewing. Only one individual was present and he knew nothing about technology nor the computer. The individual was just there to open the door we were informed. The owner was MIA the entire time. Some other individuals arrived and rudely told us that we could not accompany them to the back to retrieve the files from the type c drive. Just when you think the cleanup has begun for the wreckage. Cut to the next day, which was even worse. My brothers funeral, I arrived at the church to make sure everything was ready to go about 9:20 a.m., they were late bringing my brother to the church by almost an hour. On our way back from the burial the driver was lost and was unable to follow his own GPS. This was absolutely a nightmare nothing Serene about this establishment for my family nor my brother. They made a difficult situation even worse. Maybe if you get the "Deluxe" packages with the fake angles, horse and carriage this is where they shine. But since my family didn't want to "Super-Size", this is the treatment you receive. This place is solely based on the bottom line, the amount of money that's spent. How they could be the number one sought after funeral home in Central Texas (Per The Owner) is lost on me. But America does love fast food so maybe that's the appeal. In closing don't take your loved one nor anyone else you care about to an establishment that has packages, with the description of a fast food menu. (I would have posted a photo but my camera was offended and refused.)
