I always had the idea what they do but to be in one is a lot different for yourself. My experience in therapy has helped me so much mentally. For once i feel heard with no bias and to understand why i think and feel those feelings. Talking with friends or family can be hard because you'll never know what you get. Most of the time they dont know how to help, and can be bias. Having a therapist they are professionally there to help you and listen. I filled out a required packet of information that took over an hour and a half to complete and scheduled an appointment. They then called me to say they don't accept my insurance. I told them that they already stated they accepted it. The caller said, "Well we take your type of insurance, but not your specific plan." I said, "Why didn't someone tell me that earlier?" She said, "We're not required to check until a week before the appointment." If that's the case, then what you should tell people who are calling is, "We may take your insurance, but we are not certain - you should double-check yourself by calling." Not a blanket "Yes, we accept your insurance." Total waste of time and the lady on the phone did not seem apologetic at all.

Despite having therapists from Hispanic, Caucasian, and Black backgrounds, there appeared to be little understanding of cultural competence or inclusivity. Considering the significant Muslim population in Fresno, it is disappointing that they do not have even one Muslim therapist on staff. While they accept Muslim clients, my friend's experience felt dismissive and culturally insensitive, all while being charged extremely high fees.
