From the time I made contact with WSPH, I was given the "red carpet" treatment, even though I'm not a regular client. I decided to do all the follow-up appointments with them since who better to evaluate progress than the ones that did the work. Ruby, the beagle, has not only recovered, it's like she's about 3 years younger, and the drive from San Francisco has been well worth it. Thank you to all the doctors and staff!!!!

Finding a good vet that is at a privately owned hospital has been a challenge and after reading their website and hearing good things from a couple of colleagues, I drove over an hour each way for appointments with each of my dogs. I saw Dr. Cauvel and was very impressed with his knowledge, he recognized it was better for me to handle my super excitable malinois vs have her go into the back for her vaccination, and most importantly, when I presented him with a more complex issue on one of my dogs and I presented my thoughts, he didn't treat me like my background was somehow a threat like I have experienced before. He went out of his way to review some information and photos I emailed after the appointment and we decided on what to try. I was really thrilled with my experience with this vet at this practice with both of my dogs, and despite the drive will definitely be coming back for future needs.

I've had good experiences and not so great experiences here…read more I had to get follow up tests done for 2 of my pets after they ingested too many supplements and they were quick, responsive and able to get us in on time and handled it well. I got a phone call from the vet with the test results and recommendations and appreciated it a lot. My partner took our cat here when they were sick and not moving - they played a huge role in the care for them and suspected potential cancer after x -rays and helped direct us to the right tests we needed. After the fact they helped us get prescription medicine to keep our cat comfortable as they deteriorated. We also had to bring him back to be euthanized and when he was at his worst. The experience was professional and I appreciated what they did for us that day. It was one of the worst days of my life and I lost my first pet and had to go through this for the first time and they helped my baby get through the experience. Now coming back for appts for stray kittens - they took over an hour and 20 minutes with them when there was only one other dog that was there for general checkup - they got 2 tests, said they gave them the flea medication, vaccination and dewormer. We got asked to get a stool sample and got a quote for spay/neuter for about $1400 and $1500. The pricing was pretty expensive with a lot of extras but if I declined some of the optional work it would still be over $800 each. We later got a call from the vet tech that they forgot to give the flea meds to the kittens and I could pick it up when I dropped off the stool sample. I found that super frustrating and unprofessional - I didn't get to go inside with them since they're doing construction on the lobby so I'm assuming they were having too much fun and cuddling kittens. Just an assumption though - can't prove anything - I was just frustrated. I'm back again for my other dog for a general checkup and an allergy medicine shot - they told me I'm the first slot of the day at 9:30am but when I got here there were 2 other families here and they got taken in first. Then they forgot about me and didn't come out and to chat with me and the check in didn't get printed when I was on time. They didn't come out to me until 10:15am and finally took him in. Today was especially frustrating and I'm confused since they've taken care of my other pets before. They definitely have a lot more availability than other vets in the east bay and it's helpful to be able to come here still. I would say their pricing is a little more expensive - things like the 3 IDEXX tests here are all separate and cost more whereas the emergency vet had a 3 in 1 test that was more affordable. The internet says average pricing for spays and neuters are $300-$500 for cats and $400-$1200+ for dogs - so their estimate is much higher than both of these general range of pricing.

The senior dog began having severe health problems due to a heart murmur and seizures. There were a couple times we almost lost him and they brought him back and then monitored him over several days - giving us frequent updates. With medication and close monitoring, they extended his life past his life expectancy and we are so grateful for the dedicated care. Our 5 year old (very healthy) Labrador began foaming at the mouth and vomiting blood. We were able to get her seen RIGHT away - which can be critical in these situations. They were very thorough - they even checked for chest and abdominal sensitivity as well as her temperature - all of which were abnormal. But that's how thorough they are. When pets are family, choose a vet that will treat them like family.

She suffered from kidney disease. The first time Dr. Hedge came to our house, while she examined Ashie, she kept telling me "talk to her; keep talking to her". And that is when I knew that I had found the right Veterinary for my cat. Dr. Hedge understood the bond that exists between a beloved pet and his/her owner. For the next three years plus Dr. Hedge consistently demonstrated her knowledge, dedication, responsiveness, sensitivity, and compassion. She practiced good sense medicine without the need for frequent expensive tests as I had been used to with my prior Vet; she was always there for Ashie in her time of need - coming to the house within a couple of hours even in a day when she had a flight to catch that evening going on vacation; she was never rushed during her visits and patiently waited as I tried to calm down my temperamental kitty; and finally, the day that I released Ashie, she allowed me as much time as I to say goodbye. When she left she told me I could call her if I needed to talk. A few days after, I took advantage of that kind offer. Dr. Hedge listened to me and reassured me that I had given the best life to Ashie. I was struggling with the fact that during those last moments I had carried Ashie from the sunny spot in the our backyard where she was sitting to the table where her life would end. I was regretting that I didn't think of just going to her and sitting with her while the sedative shot was administered. I felt I had robbed her of a final moment of sunny awareness. I could not get over that regret. Dr. Hedge reminded me that Ashie's life was not just that day; that I should instead think about all the days of sunshine I had given her during 17+ years. It was a simple statement that offered me so much comfort. Ashie was my last Kitty. But if I was younger and had the opportunity of having more little companions, Dr. Hedge would be their only Vet. Thank you, Doctor!

We adopted our kittens, Basil and Perilla three month ago, and immediately had to deal with severe…read morediarrhea. A local vet tested them and found Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Our first vet was way too "textbook". They had us trying to wash the cats' back areas and using less litter to keep their medical cones clean. We were exhausted and stressed. We did two fecal tests there. The first said Perilla had more parasites; the second said Basil did. So, the first time Perilla got more doses and second time Basil got more doses. It was very confusing. Plus, Azithromycin didn't work. When we switched to Dr. Hegde, everything changed. She is incredibly practical and truly understood our pain. She explained that fecal tests are like "treasure hunting" because parasites are not evenly distributed in a sample. Instead of chasing test numbers, she suggested we treat the symptoms. Since Basil's stool was already solid, she told us not to worry and prescribed more doses for Perilla. Her patient explanations gave us so much confidence. She prescribed Metronidazole, special food and supplement. With this plan, Perilla's stool gradually started forming shape, and her latest fecal test just came back completely negative! We are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Dr. Hegde is very busy, so she cannot always respond to every single text or question. As a result, we learned to prioritize and only ask our most important questions during appointments or via text to respect her time. However, she still makes a point to follow up and check on Perilla's progress, which means the world to us. Additionally, ordering her prescribed food and medication through her website is incredibly easy and hassle-free. If you are a new pet parent looking for a realistic, deeply caring, and highly professional vet, we recommend Dr. Hegde!
