Ive always had a great experience here. Everytime I bring my 16y/o pup during an emergency they always take good care of him. And for that I am so grateful. I brought him here a couple times one for eating a pack of pistachios at 14y/o, and the most recent vomiting and dehydration. They recommended surgery for gallbladder mucocele but I opted out given his age at 16. They explained everything to me and they let us visit him during his hospitalization. I agreed on comfort care and they gave me enough knowledge and resources so make decisions. They were so compassionate and informative. Front desk staff are very attentive and pleasant. The doctors are honest and knowledgeable. The nurses are very empathetic and compassionate. They kept my pup comfortable the entire time he was there. Nothing more I could ask for or complain about. A week later I brought him back in to put my puppy to sleep, he was on comfort care for about 1 week, and again this place was so good to my pup. We were planning for in house euthanasia so my pup can be in the comfort of his home but everything happened so quick one day and he was having seizures almost every 2-3 hours. And around 11pm we brought him in here and the doctor was so sweet and gentle. Explained the entire process to us. Very heartbreaking but it's nice for her to take the time to inform us of the entire process. I'll never forget how good this place was to my puppy. read more

They are simply amazing! We had an accident with our four month frenchie, he fell and broke an elbow. They saw him immediately, got the X-rays and surgery all scheduled in less than 24 hours. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, I think they loved my puppy too much as he was sad to leave them. Worth Reading Before Bringing Your Pet Here Our boy, Mochi, needed emergency surgery after fracturing his right elbow. During our consultation, Dr. Fitch told us Mochi had elevated liver enzymes and recommended ruling out a gallbladder mucocele, explaining that it could be a silent killer. He ultimately recommended performing both the gallbladder removal and right elbow repair during the same surgery, and we trusted his judgment. Although Mochi also had protein in his urine, we were reassured that this would be a relatively straightforward surgery and were not made aware that his condition could significantly complicate his recovery. Less than 24 hours after surgery, everything changed. We received a call that Mochi's condition had rapidly deteriorated. His kidneys were leaking protein, his blood pressure had dropped, and we were told to come immediately. Seeing our boy suffering was absolutely heartbreaking. When we met with Dr. Appel and Dr. Watson, we felt there was very little compassion during one of the worst moments of our lives. Dr. Watson's first words were, "What's up?", while we were standing there in tears. We understand that veterinary medicine is difficult, but empathy and communication are just as important as medical care. I also felt that once I mentioned we had pet insurance, the focus shifted toward discussing additional treatments and costs. Whether intentional or not, that was how it came across during such an emotional time. Sadly, Mochi passed away at Beacon. We brought him in hoping he would recover, but instead we had to say goodbye. The only reason I'm giving one star is because of Missy, one of the nurses. She showed genuine kindness, compassion, and patience with both Mochi and our family. We will always be grateful for her. I sincerely hope no other family has to experience what we did. read more

I was very disappointed by the service and attitude received by Dr. Appel, and I will not be returning here. I brought our dog into urgent care because he suddenly started hard swallowing. I had told the staff that our dog eats a raw diet, since they asked. This is something that while it is less common, was recommended to us and has worked well for him for years. When Dr. Appel came in, the first thing she asked before even saying hello was "Why did you put your dog on a raw diet? We do not recommend that." I felt caught off guard and put on the spot, especially since that had nothing to do with our visit. She kept making comments about his diet and everything wrong with it before even checking him for his actual issue. When she did check his gums, she was very rough with him, and she mocked him for barking when she knocked on the door. I asked what to do if the hard swallowing happens again, and she cut me off to say "Don't give him any home remedies". That was not why I was asking that question. As a pet owner, nothing is scarier than a medical emergency. Rather that reassured, I left feeling judged as an owner for something unrelated to why I brought him in. We are not stubborn and are open to modifying his diet if we need to, but we'd prefer to discuss this with his actual vet in a professional manner, not to be judged by someone like that. The rest of the staff was very nice, but because of Dr. Appel I will not be returning to this urgent care in the future and would encourage others to avoid it as well. read more

Referred by our vet and I am so thankful we came. From the first phone call the team was very friendly, helpful, and incredibly patient as I asked about their doctor and procedure for orthopedic for our dog. Upon arrival we were instantly greeted by the team and everyone was very helpful, and seemed really happy. Most places are understaffed but this team seemed to be more of a family who genuinely care about their clients. When we got to the exam room Jaycee helped us and she was very sweet. Asked questions about our dogs past and current concerns. She took the time to get to know our pup before grabbing the doctor. We saw Dr. Fitch and he was also amazing. Very approachable, listened to concerns and did a very thorough exam. Both Jaycee and Dr. Fitch got down on the ground with our pup and made sure she was comfortable as they examined her. The Xray found what the problem was and I was not pressured to make a decision but provided options. Based on what was going on with our pup we decided on surgery. While my review doesn't include the surgery portion, I can already tell the level of care our pup will receive. The front desk team made the check out process a breeze and also stuck up for our pup when someone that came into the office asked if it was safe. Our pup is a very friendly pit bull and it was nice to have the team stick up for her and reassure the person how friendly she is. I am shocked by any reviews that is less than 5 stars. By far this has been the best visit we have had for any health visit for our pup. I can't recommend Beacon, Dr. Fitch and the entire team enough. This review is LONG overdue. My sweet, Winston, ended up at Beacon for eating 3 out of his 4 dog boots while I was out of town. Beacon staff was communicative, empathetic, and relieved my anxieties even while I was trying to travel back to the Bay Area. Winston remained in the ER for about 4 nights and he was well loved and taken care of while this dog mom was panicking. Even after he was discharged, the staff checked in on Winston via text, phone, and always welcomed us back if I had any concerns. Shortly after his recovery period was over (at home), he was having some GI issues and ended up testing positive for c diff. Dr. Amy was truly my saving grace and helped this dog mom from spiraling yet again. Dr. Amy was and is amazing! She helped us get an appointment immediately and we were able to get the appropriate medical attention and treatment. We are SO lucky and grateful to have had such a positive experience with Beacon in such stressful and scary times! Aside from these two scary incidents, Beacon is always a phone call away for a quick consult if/when something happens and lets us know what the next steps should be to make sure my boy is okay. The only good thing about this place was the help from Shana and Marie. Marie helped me throughout the visit and she was really sweet. Shana was very helpful at checkout. Otherwise, should have listened to the reviews. This place is a joke. Checked in around 6pm. Wasn't seen by a doctor until 8:20pm. I get it. They go by acuity, fine. They took my dog to draw some labs around 9:15pm. It's almost 11pm and no one has provided an update. Nothing. A "Hey we're just waiting for his labs to come back. It should be about x amount of time but the doctor still needs to see a few patients and then they'll go over the results with you." Seriously nothing. It's so incredibly frustrating, especially at these late hours. Also, I'd like to mention that the front staff can be quite unprofessional. I heard them take some calls and one of the girls made sarcastic comments about how that call didn't need to be made because whatever the pet owner made a call about was common sense to just monitor. As a pet owner, we're obviously concerned and want a professional opinion. Secondly, there are pet owners in the lobby that can hear you and are observing this completely unprofessional behavior. Clearly the front desk staff here don't care about the well being of pets. They'll just make sarcastic comments once they hang up the phone. Never taking my dogs here ever again. Would rather just make the drive elsewhere. Edit: To make matters worse, the doctor thought I had gone home. I had to ask the unprofessional front desk techs for an update about my dog. No less than 5 minutes later, the doctor arrives. She explained that she thought I had gone home and was going to call me with the results. Why would I have gone home when no one explained ANYTHING to me? Secondly, so you're saying that had I not gone to the front desk to complain and ask for an update for my dog I would have just been sitting there until who knows when? Completely not okay. We are deeply thankful to the entire team at Beacon for caring for Kumo over the past three weeks. He was diagnosed with aplastic anemia and required numerous blood transfusions and tests. During his stay, he was cared for by nearly everyone. Kumo's case was very challenging, and despite his strength and determination, his condition continued to worsen. We made the heartbreaking decision to let him go, but we take comfort in knowing that he fought so bravely and was surrounded by so much love. My husband and I took in our Sphynx kitten on a Friday night at 11pm (we were there till 330am) worried and panicked they attended us and got us in a room quickly. ok fine. Staff was friendly BUT our kitten who is 2.5 months old was brought in because she was looking and feeling dehydrated was hot cause she had a fever (confirmed at the ER VET), was lethargic and weak. They did blood work and other tests. $800 later.. Fine. Anything for my baby. BUT I'm UPSET N FRUSTRATED BECAUSE the obvious signs were there the dehydration and fever and they gave her NOTHING to help her become comfortable. The bloodwork came back with an abnormal BNP for heart disease that freaked us out because maybe her heart rate was high due to the FEVER and dehydration, but they weren't 100% sure without doing other tests, and they wanted to charge $6k-$10k for hospitalization! Obviously who tf has that type of money right now ! I paid $800 just in tests n the exam plus the emergency weekend fee and to top it off! They sent her home with a prescription medication that was a dosing for a 20lb cat that's supposed to help slow down their heart rate MY KITTEN IS 2 lbs !!! This was later confirmed at another vet we took her to called Ark Veterinary in San Jose. I love them!! The amazing staff took their time and paid attention to get symptoms, work up sounded legit very knowledgeable doctors there! My indigo is feeling so much better cause ARK VETERINARY actually got what was actually wrong! Yes that staff at beacon are okay nice yes, but after that one n only visit there I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE they will come for your money and do nothing to very minimal to actually help your beloved animal. My friend/petsitter was watching my 3 week old kitten and brought her in for constipation around 4pm and didn't leave until 2am. The place was busy which I understand since it's an emergency vet and open 24/7 but the staffs communication was very poor. My friend had to sit there and was instructed not to leave because my kitten "was next" and they continued to tell her that for several hours. They had my kitten in the back and my friend in the waiting room and she would ask for updates and they would say she would be done in the next 30 minutes to an hour and that continued to happen until I called. I was on vacation with a 3 hour time difference which isn't the worst but it sucks that I had to call and be a Karen for them to take some initiative to talk to my friend. They ended up taking her over night which I felt like could've been avoided if she was seen around the time that she came in and that I had to pay the overnight care fee for no reason. There were many dogs and cats that came in after my kitten and were able to leave wayyyy before she did. I complained to the people on the phone and all they could say is that they're sorry and that they understand when I was vouching for my friend who wasn't able to leave to get food, to sleep, or to charge her phone despite letting them know she's not a far drive from them. All they said was "well we could've given her a charger" which rubbed me the wrong way because we were patient and they seemed to have no compassion for her. I don't understand how they expect my friend to continue to care for my kitten if she were to have went home the same day without any sleep and I tried to explain that to them and all they could say is that she's still next and should be done soon. I'm not sure if the timing was intentional to rack up the bill or not, but I would definitely not go to this place unless you really have to. read more

My family brought their cat here and had a pretty negative experience. I would avoid going here if possible.... For one thing, they kept communicating that our cat was "next" repeatedly, and kept saying that it'd be another 30 minutes over and over while my mom was waiting there for almost 6 hours. I understand that things come up and emergencies take precedence, but you could at least be honest and tell us how long it's going to be. It's not like this is a fluke - many other reviews have complained about this as well. Next, after that crazy long wait, they ran tests and hours later, they tell us that they can't do anything to help our cat, and gave us numbers for euthanasia. And of course , the big bill. End of story. Sent my family home. No suggestions on alternatives, not even anything to help give our cat some comfort while my family figures out what to do. They sprinkle in some "I'm sorry"s and other platitudes, but we didn't feel any sincerity in their words or actions. We were left distraught. We ended up going somewhere else shortly after, and they actually gave us several options to go with and the pros and cons / risks of each approach. They helped narrow down to two of the most feasible options given our cat's condition, and we came up with something we were comfortable with. And they were also confused on why Beacon totally skipped over some tests that would have helped with diagnosis or why they didn't offer the tests at all. Although long term treatment is still TBD, our cat has now stabilized after some of the medications that were prescribed (she looked like she could have left us any moment when we got her checked out) and injected on site, and is finally keeping food and drink down and having an appetite again NO THANKS TO BEACON whose only advice was to consider euthanasia.... And didn't even consider her immediate needs. read more

These folks are really good. My lanky and goofy 1.75 year old had some kind of accident. Not sure where it happened exactly or when, but as I have a German shepherd mix I thought hip displaxia. It turns out the knees went out and needed surgery. These fine folks were terrific and after 2 weeks he is actually in a much better place. The amazing thing was a cancellation the next morning so that Xena could get the surgery done. Everything went very fast. Update: After 1 week she is healing nicely though not putting any weight on her leg yet. She is in great spirits. We monitor her meds especially for pain. Megan the vet tech was also super amazing she knew how to explain everything to me in a way that would help me understand and was so good at giving me so much information on meds, home remedies and even pet insurance. And last but not least the receptionists were sooooo FRIENDLY!! I loved talking to them as I waited for Maggie, they had such a great vibe and are definitely girls girls !!! Hehe :) Pricing wise obviously they will be on the expensive side because it is an emergency vet but honestly the quality service I received today was worth every penny. Dr. Fitch performed FHO surgery on my little foster-to-adopt Corgi. Unfortunately, she had been attacked by another dog under the care of her prior guardian and was referred to Beacon to help her get back to having a pain-free life. The surgery went extremely well, and my pup is recovering beautifully. Having not stepped foot in a veterinarian hospital in years, I felt so at ease with my dog being in the care of Dr. Fitch and his staff. Everyone was incredibly kind and caring no matter if I was in contact with them face to face or over the phone. The team informed me of everything I needed to know regarding the surgery and were completely welcoming of all questions pre and post op. There was never a point when I felt out of the loop or in the dark. Around 1:00am, a bit more into recovery, I woke up from sleeping to discover my dog had gotten to her stitches. I was able to get in touch with Beacon's team immediately via phone and email over a photo for a veterinarian to review to see if she would need care. Luckily, she was healing well, and no repair to the stitches was needed. Beacon's staff got back to me within 30 minutes. I cannot imagine how challenging it must be for the veterinarians and their staff to do what they do every single day, especially when running a 24 hour emergency hospital. Having friends working in animal care, I know the ups and downs that come with working in the industry. I am grateful to have had the chance to work with Beacon's doctors and staff for a surgery that initially really worried me. SHORT STORY: Dr. Johnson and the incredible staff at Beacon saved my senior golden retriever Abby's life. LONG STORY: We have a beautiful tree in our yard that, for the first time since we moved in a year ago, shed hundreds of seeds. One night, we let our pups out in the evening as we always do, and Abby decided to eat as many of these seeds as she could before I could get her to stop eating weird things. That night, Abby began dry heaving, vomiting, and had diarrhea, so we rushed her to an ER across the peninsula. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with her, suspecting that she had probably just eaten herself sick. The next morning, Abby began having severe seizures. We rushed her to Beacon at the peninsula ER hospital's recommendation, where the Beacon staff was waiting for us with a gurney. They began treating her inside immediately. Dr. Johnson spent the morning calling me hourly as she investigated the culprit for the seizures. She offered a creative idea to post photos of the plants around the area she was eating in our yard to a Facebook group devoted to poisonous plant identification. Within minutes, the Facebook group had identified the plants in our yard, the culprit being a brunfelsia pauciflora tree, which is highly poisonous to humans and dogs when parts of the plant and seeds are ingested. With this new information, Dr. Johnson spent hours devising a treatment plan for Abby with poison control. Throughout her treatment, the staff sent us regular photo and video updates, and eventually allowed us to come visit her in person. They did everything they could to make Abby feel comfortable, including allowing her to spread out on a mattress pad outside of her kennel, and gave her an eye mask and cotton balls in her ears to help her sleep more comfortably in the bright ER. They were compassionate and kind, and were super communicative about every step of her treatment process. After 72 hours in Beacon's care, Abby has pulled through and is now home and resting comfortably. Even though she was off shift, Dr. Johnson followed up with us to make sure Abby was doing well, and to make sure the cotton balls had been removed from her ears before coming home. The team here is compassionate, kind, communicative, and gave us incredible, focused care. It's safe to say without Beacon's rapid response and creative resourcefulness, Abby wouldn't be here today. They treat their patients as if they were their own pets, and I am so, so grateful to them for saving my fur baby's life. read more

Our Maine Coon (Bobo) started having nose bleeds on a Friday and Beacon was our second stop because she needed more diagnostics than the first clinic could offer, specifically a CT scan. Of course this all started the Friday of the 3-day weekend, so I was pretty worried about staffing, wait times, etc... We live in Mountain View and the drive to Fremont was well worth it. Dr Appel was AMAZING !!! She and her team immediately triaged Bobo and let me be in the area with them/her since Bobo was in some distress. While doing an ultrasound, she showed me a mass that shouldn't be in her abdomen. Even I could see on the ultrasound that it looked pretty big (5cm by 5cm). We ended up doing a full body CT scan because the leading diagnosis was lymphoma, so wanted to rule that out. Needle biopsy of neck lymph node showed reactive (not cancer), CT Scan findings confirmed the mass so Dr Appel took the lead and contacted an oncologist at another clinic (Sage Campbell), spoke Dr to Dr, and secured a quick appointment for us. Her sense of urgency was appreciated and helped us understand that time was of the essense. At this point, the nose bleed was on the back burner and it was all hands on deck re: the mass.
