Now that the case against me was dismissed, I can finally leave this review. I hate leaving bad reviews, so when I originally went in July 2021 and had a bad experience, I wasn't planning to publicly share about it. However, the terrible experience that followed led me to need to share this here to hopefully prevent others from experiencing the same. tl;dr: Doctor was rude, made me feel uncomfortable, the science is against xrays for most chiro patients, they screwed up billing/insurance, then sued me for it. Look up Dr. Holland on dhp.virginia.gov In July of 2021, I had twisted my ankle and was receiving care from Ortho VA (who I'd definitely recommend!), and that was going so well I wanted to see a Chiropractor to make the rest of me feel just as good. I saw the good rating on Google, but unfortunately did not read much further. I called them up and they gave me a same day appointment. Now, since this was nearly 2 years ago, I'll have to describe the rest as best as I can remember. When I arrived, I wasn't sure I was in the right place as the building seemed almost abandoned from the outside. Once inside, I had to wait for quite a long time even though I was on time for the appointment I had made just an hour earlier. Dr. Holland was quite rude the entire brief time I spoke with her. I was sent to get x-rays, which most science shows is not recommended for chiropractic care unless an injury is suspected. The only thing I enjoyed about the visit was the massage, but even that was not worth everything else that went down. After my visit, they tried to convince me that I needed to come in multiple times per week. Of course, that was definitely not true. I never returned and I'm doing fine now. In September (nearly 2 months after my visit), they sent me a bill for ~$40 after insurance which I paid 2 days later. I thought that'd be the end, not a great experience but oh well, I'd move on with my life, but no... After that, I didn't hear from them for quite awhile until they sent me a bill for ~$350. I called to ask about this, and even though I had just received it from them, the employee said it was "a good thing I called because she was just about to drop my paperwork off in court." I spoke with my insurance, and they told me to have them reprocess the claim, so I told them that. From then on, I did not respond to their many phone calls, because there was nothing else I could do. Fast forward to this year, and nearly 2 years after my singular visit, they filed a warrant in debt against me for the alleged balance. When I went to court to disagree with this, I was horrified to see that I was one of many cases they had that day. Unfortunately, only 2 other folks showed up, so the remainders had default judgements entered against them. Me and one other fellow wanted to argue against the alleged debt, so we had to show back up to court today. Of course, both our cases were quickly dismissed. They had sent 1) an employee 2) with no personal knowledge of the situations. After talking to the other fellow, he told me he had paid cash at time of his appointments, when months later they also claimed that he owed them money. This unfortunately seems to be a pattern, as many yelp reviews say the same, and Dr. Holland lost her license many years ago for similar behavior, which is publicly available information. In summary, I'd highly recommend you not do business with this company. I'm so glad for this finally to be over nearly 2 years later. Going there was truly one of the worst decisions I ever made. I honestly think the only reason they have good reviews is because they constantly mail anyone who's ever gone there (including me, who they actively had a suit against) to leave them a google review for a chance to win something. If anyone else has been sued by this business: stand up for yourself! Don't be intimidated to show up to that court date. The judge will decide the truth, but if you don't show up then they automatically win. read more

Rude person answering the phone at the front desk. They try to force you into litigation and suing people. They used shady practices and do not follow any type of code of ethics, in my opinion, that I feel I've experienced in my life. Once again this is just my opinion, but it seems like something directly out of the movies or something that your friends tell you about and what to watch out for. The doctor seems nice at first but it's all a facade in my opinion. She tries to talk you into speaking to her lawyers and personally gave me false diagnosis. All I've got to say is there was absolutely nothing wrong with my back within a couple of days and still isn't a few years later. Dr. Holland and her team are amazing. I started seeing Dr. Holland on July 24. I "hobbled" in with a pain level of 8, taking pain medication daily. I have been treated like family since the initial phone call through my maintenance schedule. Dr. Holland developed a treatment plan that fit my schedule and budget. Her whole body/life approach to medicine is comforting, reassuring, and professional. I do not feel rushed; if I have questions, they are answered. Her therapists are the best. I have a treatment plan that keeps my pain at less than 1 and exercise plans to reinforce her established core strength. I tell everyone I can, "You need Dr. Holland!" Please do yourself a favor, call and schedule. You will be glad you did, I promise. read more

Dr. Holland is running a scam out of this office. Will tell you they take your insurance. Then call and say they made a mistake and then force you to pay the full amount. Then sue you for the full amount and refuse to take any responsibility. Also, went there 5 times and my back got popped once. This is the place that acts like they know what they're doing and never really try to fix you. Just want you to keep coming back as much as possible to take as much as they can. Wow. I owed almost $400 for two back to back visits because front desk girl couldn't even tell me my total after my first visit. Apparently, the doctor had stepped out so she didn't know what to charge me for?? Doctor has shockingly terrible bedside manner and is constantly rushing you- she even told me to "hurry up we've godda roll" when switching exam rooms! Very pushy and guilt trip you into making more appointments. The doctor herself even called me to ask why I had only scheduled one more instead of 3 and proceeded to end the call with "well you won't get better." The only pleasant part and reason for my two stars was the woman, Tori, who performed my tissue massages. She was super sweet and did a phenomenal job! No wonder this place is a Walk-in, they probably can't keep patients from Walking-out. read more

** PLEASE PLEASE READ ** I truly don't even want to give this place one star. I went here because it was recommended to me and due to my job I was experiencing very severe back pain. The people there were so so nice to me however, looking back it felt like a huge scam and a waist of money. Right off the bat they wanted to do X-rays which was fine but they quickly put me into massage therapy which only made my pain worsen and inflamed, they also adjusted me every-time as well as put me through physical therapy which I thought was helping. They had me coming 3 times a week because my back was "so bad." I left every day hurting worse than I did coming in. They constantly tried to get me to buy things I "needed" and told me I would never get better if I didn't purchase them. The only reason I kept going was because they had me believe they were truly helping me and supposedly my insurance was covering everything except the copay (which was still $40 a visit = $120 a week for me) for a recently graduated college student I don't have money like that to throw around but I trusted them. I started to talk to a family member who was also a chiropractor back home and he said a lot of what they were doing was not correct so I decided to leave. Before I left I made sure ALL of my balances were paid off and I had nothing left to do before leaving. Once I left my back quickly started to heal and I have not had any issues since I left, which was over 3 months ago. Recently they sent me a letter in the mail telling me I owed over $700, I called because this did not sound right to me at all and they told me my insurance only covered a certain amount and supposedly they told me this way before I left that place which was NOT correct, they gave me no documentation nor did they mention it to me when I SPECIFICALLY asked them if there were any other charges I needed to take care of before I left. They are now forcing me to pay over $700 on top of the several SEVERAL hundred dollars I already gave them for a short period of time I was there. I'm very disappointed and very dissatisfied with this place and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND not going. I would've given this place 4-5 stars for actually doing my body good with adjustments & the 1hr massage but alas, I've been scammed, and they're suing for $908. They said they accepted my insurance ($50 copay) treated me for 2 months, then basically said 'whoopsie, we put in the wrong insurance name, please pay the rest of the out of pocket cost of $135 a visit'. Wait, WHAT!? YOU made this mistake. You admitted it, and u want ME to pay for it? I didn't sign up for this NOR would I have stepped in ur building if I wasn't covered. You did the SAME thing to a coworker BEFORE me. Not sure this is a mistake anymore. BEWARE my local friends... history is repeating itself. Google "Dr. Mary Holland license revoked". One would THINK you would stay as far away from the appearance of fraud given your history. A good business would eat the loss for their mistake and move forward. Tis very short-sighted & unethical to try & stick the little guy with the bill. I already pay $300+ a month for ins. Paid my $50 copay every visit, had a $0 balance. I am 8 months pregnant with our first. I started having massive back issues in my second trimester. I kinda brushed them off as "pregnancy pains" and even my midwife just told me its from the baby and my hips adjusting. I ignored it until it started getting worse and worse as I got farther along (I started puking from back pain). Again, I pushed it off as pregnancy because I have been sick the entire time. One of my friends recommended to see a chiropractor in my third trimester. I finally made the appointment. Being from the north I'm used to people being completely blunt. Ever since I moved south people seem to tip-toe around things (especially doctors). Dr. Holland honestly shocked me. She was completely blunt with me and extremely straight forward. I LOVED IT! This is probably why you may see reviews of "she has terrible manners" or "she was so rude". She's not rude just blunt. If your from the south I can see how you would feel rushed or feel that shes very abrasive. I apparently sprained my back at some point. She told me what to do to immediately start feeling better. This isn't the type of doctor that will give you a temporary fix. Dr. Holland really tries to do her best to get you better. She told me exactly what she wanted to do to get me better. I left the first day feeling great! Went in the very next day for an adjustment and could not believe I actually felt better than the day before. I honestly left wondering how long I've had problems and never knew. I was just living with unknown pain thinking it was completely normal. I have never been to a doctor who doesn't just want to temporarily fix me. It was a breathe of fresh air knowing I have a doctor who wants me to get back to my active self. After the second visit (my adjustment) I went home and told my husband "this may be crazy but I feel like I can see better. Also, I am no longer worried that I won't be able to play with our kids in the yard. I actually feel 23 instead of 23 trapped in a 60 somethings body". It no longer hurts to stand and do the dishes (after just 3 appointments) and I now know what to do if I do start to feel pain. I tend to be a busy body. I am always up and doing something around the house and I have realized that my body needs to rest (especially while pregnant). I used to be in terrible pain after doing a few house chores. My husband and friends even noticed that something was different. My entire attitude throughout the day changed. I wasn't physically exhausted by midday or randomly "moody" because I was in pain. I have recommended this place to all of my friends and family in the area! If you want to actually get better - this is the place to go. It is also important to recognize that when working with your bones it isn't a one and done type visit. A chiropractor isn't a walk in clinic trying to get some antibiotics for your back. Things will not be fixed immediately on the first time. You have to start slow and slowly work towards the goal just like physical therapy. I have read many reviews talking about how they were upset that "my back still hurts after one visit". I think there is a lack of knowledge of how your bones and muscles work. You cannot snap your fingers and everything be fixed the next day. Your back doesn't have a virus - it is bones, muscle, and tissue. Dr. Holland pushes you to come back regularly because it is like physical therapy. You have to slowly work on your body and they longer you wait between visits the more work that has to be done on the next visit and it will take longer to get better. Dr. Holland works in such a way to get you better faster, while also not causing more damage in the long run. Some just see the weekly visits and everything else as a doctor just trying to take your money. Whereas if you look at the bigger picture she wants you better faster so you are not spending money to see a chiropractor for the rest of your life. I am really shocked to read the two negative reviews at the top of this page, why is Yelp not posting all of the positive reviews I'm reading below and that I personally see in the office on a consistent basis??? I have been seeing Dr. Holland and the staff at Central Virginia Chiropractic Center for some time, and their care and service is impeccable. After being in a traumatic accident, I needed an experienced and compassionate doctor to treat my physical injuries, I am so grateful I found Dr. Holland and Dr. Adams to provide that care when I needed them most. If you are looking for doctors that truly care about your well being and the outcome of your health and wellness, you need to pay them a visit. You won't regret it. From adjustments and nutrition to rehabilitation and massages, each service is personalized specifically for your needs. In my case, I needed all of the services above, the entire staff has always maintained a high level of professionalism, while making you feel comfortable in an "at home" environment. The offices are always clean, and I am always greeted with a friendly smile in a down to earth atmosphere. This eased my fears tremendously as I was initially apprehensive, and in an enormous amount of pain when I first walked through the doors. But, thank God I did. What a difference they have made in my life. I'm confused as to why the comments below are so poor. We recently moved to the area from NOVA, and went to a chiropractor up there for more than 5 years. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, and we felt we were getting better moneys worth because the cost of adjustment and massage therapy was the same as just the adjustment as the other office we used to go too. I immediately felt relief after my first visit, and Dr. Holland was honest with me and told me she didn't feel comfortable adjusting me on the first visit because it would cause more pain (I suffered from a freak accident and could barely move my upper body). She recommended I came in 3x for only two weeks, and each time I've gone it's like I've walked out feeling closer and closer to my normal self. I think people expect this to be a "one and done" type of treatment, but it's not. Healing takes time, especially if you've suffered severe injuries, or are trying to fix something that you had since childhood. As for the insurance comments, people should know insurance itself is horrible, and takes time to hear back sometimes. It's also the patients responsibility to monitor and know what their benefits are; the office notifying you is a courtesy. We are paying off a deductible so we have to pay the full visit until we reach it. The staff is so, so kind and patient. Dr. Holland is so funny, and it's refreshing to have a doctor be blunt and open instead of making you feel like you don't know what's going on most times. Tori and Heidi are amazing, Adrienne, really the whole staff. They've never pressured us to "buy" something we "need." They say "hey, try this for a few days. If you don't like it, bring it back no charge." I'm really confused by the comments below and it just seems like they didnt know their insurance policies, and the time after to which they received their bill from the office. After 3 years, my New York doctors declared me as 75% permanently disabled, with Chronic Pain. Dr. Holland and her staff have given me a new path in my life. My first session, I rolled into her office in a wheelchair, by my 3rd session I was able to leave with my cane. I am slowly getting better, the chronic pain is no longer as it was. I was averaging a 8-10 for 3 years, now I am a 3-5 in my pain level. In less than a month, I have been able to bathe, dress myself, cook and wash dishes. I am starting to feel normal again, if my New York doctors could see me now. I just want to Thank Dr. Holland and her Awesome Team for helping me to get my life back, being independent means the world to me. The Central Virginia Chiropractic Center Team, especially their Massage Therapists have improved my life so much, I can't wait to see what happens in the coming months. Thank you guys, I would highly recommend Dr. Holland to anyone, especially if you were told you had to continue living in extreme pain. The services I have received at this office have been fantastic! I love the various personalities of the staff. Don't let the outdated decor and tiny x-ray room fool you; the services they offer (including massage!) are fantastic and great quality. I went in for a massage offered on Groupon, and I decided to stay a patient and get adjustments weekly. They work with your schedule and even work with you monetarily, if needed. Meeting Dr. Holland was a Divine appointment for my husband!! He has a labor intensive job to put it lightly and has suffered with back pain on and off for years, not to mention issues with his posture that aggravated the problem. He went to another local Chiropractor for a time and got temporary relief but the personal service and extended interest in his overall health was not part of the treatment; he was in and out of the office in a matter of ten minutes!! No exaggeration!! Well one Friday evening my husband slipped while working outside and caught himself before he fell but as the night progressed he began to display symptoms that pointed to a very serious back injury and very possibly surgery. Dr. Holland was the only chiropractor open on a Saturday morning, so I called and explained the intensity of his pain, the symptoms and that he could not walk hoping she would show mercy and take him in immediately because there was no way he could wait until Monday and we DID NOT want to go to an emergency room Doctor. And she Did! She took him in the next morning and was so thorough in her diagnosis! She was careful to take X-Rays and explain to both my husband and myself that his healing would be a process but she was willing and capable of providing the best care. And she Has!! She also revealed to us a curvature in my husbands spine, she fitted him for specialized shoe inserts that balanced his posture and stride and he feels 100 % better!!! She is not only an amazing Doctor who is passionate and top in skill in her field but she has a genuine concern and love for her patients that shines every time we see her! We have nothing but the utmost respect and regard for Dr. Holland but we also love her straight forward honest personality and that her sincere goal is to educate and heal every soul that walks into her office! I had a car accident back about a two months ago. I was going to just not bother with the expense of seeing a Doctor. But the pain started to persist and I did not want to use pain medication so I look for a chiropractor that specialized in car accidents. Dr. Holland pin pointed all the areas that needed adjustments. Here was neck, back shoulder and arm pain. I realized it was a good thing I got early treatment for these injuries. The xrays revealed many of the areas that greatly needed adjustments. The effects of whiplash were extensive and the relief I got from message therapy were amazing. I didn't realize how much this would help and that it is no only useful for stress. I thought I would have to undergo months of treatment but Dr. Holland and her staff assisted me greatly in my recovery. STAY AWAY!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!!! Central Virginia Chiropractic Center is absolutely one of the worst establishments I have ever set foot in. To begin, their office is dingy, dirty and in disrepair. Their entire office is in desperate need of a thorough cleaning, while much of the chiropractic equipment is in need of an update. The office staff I encountered, which I have now learned are the owner/partners, delivered the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I will explain the short version: Their company gave away complimentary massages at a local fair. My significant other and I were among the recipients of said complimentary massages. Last weekend, my significant other was left to wait in their dirty, antiquated waiting room for an hour and a half past her scheduled appointment. She was never given the complimentary massage. Instead, they offered her and I an additional complimentary couples massage for the inconvenience. Today was supposed to be Central Virginia Chiropractic's opportunity for redemption. Unfortunately, the practice's controlling partners, Darlene Holland and Peter Jones completely ruined the opportunity to re-establish a chance to earn my business. Ms. Holland claimed, as we greeted her while walking through the front door, that our appointments had been cancelled earlier in the week (not true, she eventually reconsidered her position on this issue). She took receipt of our complimentary couples massage coupon and we filled out paperwork. My significant other was called back, at which point we were extremely surprised to learn that they would not, in fact, be honoring the complimentary couples massage and would only be willing to honor the initial complimentary massage from the festival. She then, RUDELY, proclaimed to the entire waiting room that their office does not provide a couples massage ( or 'Only on Valentine's Day'). She welcomed me to leave if I was not going to be happy with them not honoring their company's word. WE SHOULD HAVE RUN AT THIS POINT! I gave them the opportunity, yet again, for redemption but they continued to disappoint. As I attempted to leave after the massage, Peter cornered me and asked me to join him in a procedure room to discuss my questionnaire(the 'paperwork' I filled out in the waiting room). In the process of my politely attempting to draw the encounter to a close, I was given the opportunity for a closer look at a dirty, worn, and completely outdated chiropractic facility. Needless to say, I was unimpressed and ready to leave. Upon exiting into the waiting room, Peter decided to announce to the waiting room that "they had adjusted MY 'BAD ATTITUDE' ". His audacity to proclaim the company's policy toward me, my family, and their complete lack of tact in the situation is astounding. We, of course, immediately left. I left Central Virginia Chiropractic speechless, a rarity for me. There was absolutely no reason for the abhorrent customer service we experienced. Fortunately, the internet provides an outlet to express that this company has absolutely destroyed the opportunity to earn a single dollar from me. Thank you for accepting and treating Tina Rivera. No other chiropractor in Lynchburg, VA would accept Tina because her Workmen's Compensation was out of state (New York). Tina's previous chiropractor tried to declare her totally disabled and said that she would be wheelchair bound for the rest of her life, but Dr. Holland was able to get Tina out it. Since Tina started seeing Dr. Holland, she has been able to walk without assistance more and more! She can live a better quality of life thanks to Dr. Holland and her incredibly gifted and friendly team. read more

The staff is rude and the doctor is not nice and has no tact. I went in there for a spinal consultation and left not wanting to ever go back. I was desperate for anyone to adjust my back because of pregnancy. When I arrived I talked to a brand new Dr. and was told they weren't sure if she was in network with my insurance but would still file... I didn't care. I was still desperate and said OK! I spoke with her and told her where I was in pain. LITERALLY, no adjustments were made and all we did was talk briefly. Instead, they sent me with this gentleman for a massage... NOT what I was expecting. He was completely unprofessional and I was uncomfortable with him the entire time. They wanted me to come in the next day for an adjustment but I left in tears hurting more than I did before. Almost a year later and I didn't hear from them until December 2016 when they decided to send me a bill HA!... I was then sent to collections less than 2 weeks later because I didn't pay?!... These people are completely dishonest and sketchy. This was the worst experience and I do not recommend. I went ahead and paid the bill but DO NOT GO TO THEM. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. read more

My daughter has been going there since she threw her neck out, they were able to see her the same day I called. Her neck is in good working order now and we just do maintenance on her neck/back. However her allergies are really back and she will not do shots, so we do the Sinus Massage and it helps her a great deal and limits the medication she has to take. During the really bad pollen seasons she looks forward to the Sinus treatments. read more

Do not go to this chiropractic office. These people took advantage of my young age and manipulated me into spending $200 when all I came in for was a simple adjustment. I've never been around such unprofessional behavior, the way the doctor falsely declared how unhealthy I was just to trick me into giving her money.
