This state university wasn't really well recognized in the 1980s, in my opinion. After seeing the campus and the transformation now, I am impressed with the campus, buildings, and labs they now have. The bar has been raised at this higher education institution. Even parking enforcement staff were friendly and forgiving with not possessing a parking permit. I would recommend this university to those who want to study in a small town environment but with great tools to learn from.

Science building at CWU, set among beautifully maintained grounds.

Gorgeous campus in a semi-rural community. Nice large gym, recreation facilities, and indoor rock wall all located in the student union. There's a separate office also set-up for outdoor activities like river-rafting and snow sports. I noticed quality athletic facilities in other parts of the campus too. The new student union itself is impressive with a better-than-average food court (unfortunately, it's largely closed down between terms). Many new, well-designed buildings throughout the campus for instruction. Not many schools have their own airport and teach avionics/piloting. The music department is well-known. The roof-top observatory in an area with a full night sky is a plus. The grounds are well-maintained and the Japanese garden on-campus is a surprisingly nice touch. The university has it's own police department with regular patrols throughout the morning, afternoon, and evening. Student housing is well organized and affordable compared to private housing options in the surrounding area. University apartments offer decent furnishings and all utilities, basic cable, and WiFi are included with rent. Parking is also included for most complexes. Other unique features I noticed include a well established study abroad program with unique groups of international students coming in for exchange, degrees, and ESL study. The rodeo/fairgrounds are also just walking distance from the university and have some fun events. The program that works with chimpanzees who communicate through sign-language is remarkable, although it's a shame they had to move the last of the chimps to a private habitat this month and now largely use videos of them for instruction. I can tell I am going to enjoy the time I spend here.

Hey I went to school here! I am a big fan! 1) A small college town, CWU, pretty much walking distance to anywhere you need to go. 2) Great housing on Campus: dormitory or apartments. 3) Nice facilities: Gym and a very nice swimming pool 4) Friendly faculty and staff 5) low cost of living (if you don't party and drink)

Professors spend time forming cliques with young students rather than providing education. Thousands of dollars for what?

I was driving home to Seattle when I stopped in Ellensburg and realized my fender was hanging off…read more I called a few shops before finding University Auto who said they could help me. I got my car there, and within a few minutes he had fastened it back on and told me it would be fine until I got home (and it was). He was pleasant and very helpful. I tried to pay him for his time, but he didn't even charge me. Having car trouble in an unfamiliar city is always very stressful, I will always be grateful for his help.

University Auto Body shop is great. They are very busy and it can take a while to get your car,…read morebut the staff is excellent. My son is at CWU and had a little mishap with his car. It was originally towed by CV Auto, and they recommended University Auto Body Shop. I called around, and University Auto is the one that got the most referrals, so I decided to roll with it. It is always a little scary when you have to use people you have never used before. I work in the car business so I am pretty particular about where my cars go. This transaction has not been easy, but it has been by no fault of UAB. They have handled everything with humor, thoughtfulness and kindness. The insurance company hired a local adjuster and they were a bit of a disaster, and frustration, and the beuracracy of my insurance company, and their complete inability to communicate with various departments etc were my challenges. Actually they were Paul's challenges, he handled EVERYTHING! In this situation it is in the best interest of the company to find everything possibly wrong and get the insurance company to pay for it, they had an opportunity to make a lot more money than they did. However, they chose to only fix what was actually broken and needed fixing, didn't try to upsell me. (this fact may not sit well with their bosses, but Paul listened to me when talked, money is tight, and my son is a very poor college kid trying to work, pay for school etc.) They considered me first and then their pocket book. It has taken well over a month to get my car, but that, again, is no real fault of UAB. They were clear from day one the earliest possible date they could get to work on my car, and with the insurance drama, and another shop schedule (for the mechanical issues) involved. it took as long as it took, and now it is done. While I certainly hope that my son will avoid boulders in the future, if the need ever arises again, or if anyone ever asks where to get body work done in Ellensburg, this business has my vote of confidence.
