I've been a member for about a year since after my cardio rehab from a congenital heart valve repair. I like this place. There seems to be many Coronary patients there, many of who I have gotten to know. However, much of the equipment is in need of replacement. The machines are just plain worn out. The pickle ball contingent are taking over the courts and it annoys me. Great professional and knowledgeable staff. Never too crowded except for Saturdays when all the wannabe bodybuilders infiltrate. Don't understand why so many naked seniors hanging out in the locker rooms for hours. They seem to be mostly retirees with no other socialization outlets. Too many of them using cellphones in the locker room. Cell phones are banned from locker rooms but these older gents don't seem to think they apply. read more

This place needs another based bench platform (only one in the entire gym), only one Smith machine, no ez bars for curls, no fixed preacher curl machine, no calf machines at all. There are 3 racquetball courts which takes up so much room. I have been a member for several years and have only seen 1 court ever being used. for the expensive cost I will cancel my membership and go to better well-equipped gym. GOOD DAY! read more

I joined for a month and canceled for a variety of reasons but mainly cleanliness. I had toured this place when it first opened up years ago (I was a child then) and I remember it being really nice. When I joined in December 2023 I didn't bother with a tour because I recalled it being nice and had still heard good things about it here and there. My mistake really, I should have toured it first and not bothered joining. I mainly joined for the pool, I prefer to swim. That said both pools were always very crowded and the therapy pool was full of children doing cannon balls, which was perplexing to me being a therapy pool. I figured I just needed to find a better time to go. The place has all the things you'd want in a full service gym, sauna, steam room, pools, lots of equipment etc. That said, the main facilities seem original to when it first opened. The tile everywhere is straight out of the 90's. I've seen more modern and well maintained faucets in a gas station restroom, these things are crusted over with minerals and look like they belong in a museum. The wood in the sauna for the benches is rotting away - once I reached down to grab my towel and a chunk of wood came off under my nail, very splintery as well. The water fountain in the locker room also appears to be original, no bottle filler and the water comes out cloudy and warm. In fact I could only find one bottle filler fountain out by the cardio machines. My main issue and the dealbreaker for me was cleanliness. The month I was a member I never once saw anyone cleaning in the locker room. I saw towels and soaps etc being replenished but zero cleaning being done. The toilet area had dust in the stalls behind the doors, caked on the floor. The carpet in the locker area was full of stains. The hot tub had nasty blackened grout in many areas and really could have used a good scrubbing. The showers had mold at the bottom of the panels. The last time I was there the mold was so bad I could also smell it. Granted I do have allergies and mold bothers it but the concerns listed above really speak to the overall lack of attention with cleaning. It was shocking to me that a hospital owned gym has such poor cleaning and maintenance standards. All this was for the low price of like $94 a month. They didn't give me any issue canceling, and rightly so based on the condition of the place. But I wouldn't have paid $1 had I known. read more

I've gone to Centre Club on and off for a decade! Consistently when I lived in the area, and now seasonally when I am in the area. This gym was the creme de la creme. Excellent deli, cute clothing at the pro shop, and the locker amenities were refined. Going back for the first time in awhile, this gym needs to return to its roots and undergo a face lift! The bones of the gym are great! Nicely designed, able to look at the pool and full basketball court/racquetball courts from the lobby. I think that if the healthcare owner updated the carpet, paint and locker room hygiene products, it would really elevate the place. I appreciate their group fitness classes and exercise machine variety. The send floor track is also very helpful for non-treadmill interior running. Staff has always been friendly and helpful and they take great care of individuals coming in for PT or individuals with mobility accommodations. Hopefully Centre Club is moving towards updating the interior and putting something where the deli use to be. The substantial monthly dues call for that! read more

Management should call this place the Pickleball Club. Mgt caters to their every whim. Pickleball players have full control over the entire basketball court from 8-10 on Tue and Thursdays, instead of 9-11 now. Did Mgt ever ask the other members if this would be a problem? Heck No... Unless you play pickleball, you don't matter in this place. I have submitted many suggestions in their suggestion box, and commented on their online survey several times to no avail. It is a sad state of affairs when a few pickleball players can have so much control over the entire club. I mean, the last time I looked this was a basketball court, not a pickleball court. read more

Not a good gym. They make you book a time to use the therapy pool, yet there are people in it when it's your time. They were not like that before. I guess with Aurora Advocate taking over, it's all about the money. Which is why any hospital or affiliated location is so terrible. Advocate hospitals are the WORSE! Some of the clientele act like they are so entitled. Its not cheap and certainly not worth the money. I can find much better gyms at a better price and without the attitude! read more

Let me preface my review by saying I've never been a member. I did take a tour years ago, and tonight I went to get another tour to see if anything has been updated since then, as I was in search of a new gym. I got there tonight around 8pm; they close around 10pm. The guy at the front desk (Lee; nice guy) I guess wasn't able to give tours, and couldn't find anyone else to give one, as I guess all the 'tour givers' had already left for the day. They also won't let you just walk around by yourself to look around (for liability reasons; understandable). It was also VERY quiet; it felt near empty, so if you like that, that's a plus. If you not only go to a gym to workout, but to potentially meet people as well, you might not like it as much. But, I was also there after the usual gym rush hours, so I may have gotten the wrong impression regarding that. Last tour I took back around 2005 I'm guessing, it was super clean and nice, and the little bit that I did see tonight, it still looked well taken care of, though I only saw things from the front desk and walk-in area. Long story short though, the price of around $90-$100 a month was enough to put me off (for the second time). I ended up registering over at the Waukegan Field House for about half of that, and no long term contracts. Since I couldn't fully tour the place, and the high cost, I'm only giving it a 3 rating. Perhaps it'd be more if it were cheaper and I got to check out the cleanliness, etc. read more

Steam room is not hot - Luke warm. It should be 110-115. It feels like 80s. Worry about sanitary. There is no temp gauge on wall. No maintenance men on weekend - they'd have to be called in. Very disappointing when I drove over just for the steam today. Hopefully just a glitch. Its an expensive club and you expect better than this. read more

Wonderful amenities, pools, saunas, whirlpool, massage available, classes included with membership, towel service & toiletries provided. Day care available, even a cafe with healthy fare! I joined after my other fitness center closed. I noticed there were several low-impact classes and was really looking forward to starting a new adventure. In the months since, I have written comment cards, surveys, and talked personally to the staff about the classes being too fast. They added a Zumba Gold class which proved to be more of the same fast pace. At least three of us have developed physical problems which we never had during years of the Gold classes at our previous fitness center. The same story is given - stick with us, things will get better. On my exit meeting, the person/manager I spoke with claimed he never heard any complaints. They supposedly had several meetings on this so who attended? Moving on to another gym since my 7 weeks of physical therapy are done. read more

Staff is unprofessional! I brought my daughter swimming here when she was 6 weeks old. They have a very warm therapy pool that is perfect for a baby to get used to the water. I continued bringing her here until she was 6 months old. The aquatics manager commented on how she thought it was awesome that I brought my daughter in the water at such a young age and management gave many tours of the facility while we were swimming, waving and smiling at us. When my daughter was 6 months old, a staff member came down to the pool and told me you have to be 5 years old to swim in the pool. I informed her that I have been using the facility for 6 months and both staff members and management always smiled at me and told me to enjoy the water! After she told me I had to leave I talked to one of the managers and he was saying things like "well.. it depends what day you come" or "you never paid the guest fee." You dont have to pay for a baby to get into a professional sporting event, I didnt think you had to pay for a 6 month old to get into a gym that I was a member at. I also didnt realize that rules are only applied on certain days or times. I took my daughter here about 10 times so staff is clearly not on the same page or know the rules of the facility they work at. Also, they advertise swim lessons for kids as young as 3 so I'm not sure how 5 and up as a rule even makes sense. read more

I went to this health club to try it out since my health club closed in December. The monthly membership was close to $100 a month for an individual. This is pretty steep so I was expecting great things and was very disappointed. For the price of membership, I would expect new or some updated equipment, clean and well-maintained fitness floor, along with other updates or projects in the works. I asked the woman that was showing me around what updates the club is putting into place to accommodate the 400+ new members (this information she told me) from my health club closing and the new year resolution members. She was pretty rude with her response and told me, "nothing happens overnight here". After the tour, I was given a week-long pass to try out the club. I stayed to work out and used a Stairmaster. I was immediately disgusted by how dirty the machine was. I then started to look around and notice how dirty and dingy everything was. The wall next to the stair master had hundreds of drops of sweat on it which had not been wiped in a very long time. I then looked to see what was next to the Stairmaster and the wall and there was a dirty, dusty bandaid on the floor. I got off the machine and started to really notice how gross and outdated most machines were. I also noticed that there had not been a fresh coat of paint anywhere in a long time. I went into the women's locker room and found the carpet to be very dirty and in need of a vacuum. The steam room had an off odor of urine, and the floors, in general, I would not step a barefoot on. For the amount of membership, I would expect friendlier service, much cleaner facility and equipment, and updated machines. I worked out for only 20 minutes and left. I immediately went to another gym in the area and found the conditions much more sanitary and updated. read more

This gym is the best! It has everything. I was a member for several years and never thought to write a review until recently. I went to cancel my membership (personal reasons, nothing wrong with the gym) and they were so professional. Most gyms give you this huge run around if you need to cancel, but they didn't. I filled out 1 form and was done. Anyway, about the gym: Hot tub, steam room & sauna in the locker room is a really nice touch. They have just about everything, so if you don't see what you want, ask. For example, they keep the TRX in a drawer. They have a good variety of classes & extras. My favorite feature is the heated therapy pool and all the equipment for use in the pool. Love this place! read more

Great gym. Rarely ever a wait for equipment. Locker rooms are big and clean. Also, the locker room provides towels and lockers that lock, which is a big plus. The Steam room and Sauna are well maintained. Good pick-up basketball 3 days a week. The only downfall is the guest policy. For the price you pay a month ($75-$100), you would think you could get a couple guest passes a year (this used to be the case, however, a few years back they stopped adding guest passes to your account). Currently it is $15 a day for a guest pass and they now limit a guest to only 3 guest passes. This puts a bit of a damper on people who occasional bring friends when in town to play basketball on the days they get pick-up games. read more
