I have been hearing terrible things about their emergency hospital but when I was told by my vet that I would have to see a specialist and that the closest one I could find was at DMV Lachine, I was concerned but didn't feel like I had a choice. First, I will start by saying that all staff members I interacted with were friendly, helpful and seemingly competent. My complaint seem to be administrative procedures and pricing practices unambiguously heavily driven by corporate greed. They exploit the circumstances of people who are usually there because they have literally nowhere else to go. After a 10min (at most) examination of my dog, the specialist was done, left the room and was replaced by a tech (?) who came back with an estimate of $6000 for the surgery. I declined to schedule the surgery at that time (have to somehow find $6000 first, you know) but went ahead with the blood work done. In less than 30min there, no actual treatment received, the appointment was over. When I was told my bill was $910, I was surprised and kind of confused and having not yet been given my itemized bill, I couldn't figure out how it could come to that amount after 30min (at most) of being in the clinic. It was only once I had paid that the bill was handed to me and I sat in my car trying to fugure it out. In addition to the fee for the consultation ($225 - I'd love to make $225 in 10min!!) and blood work ($340), there was an additional $230 charged for medication. This seemed a lot to me, considering two of the medications were simply one dose. I did a quick search online on 2 Canadian vet pharmacy websites and I was extremely upset, disappointed and angry by what I found. The 2 single doses (Trazodone 5mg charged $30.67 & Cerenia 24mg at $35.14) are sold online for $0.06 and $03.45. But it was the 3rd drug, Gabapentin 50mg, which seemed extremely expensive at $163.40 for 90 pills (1 month supply) that was the biggest shock. The price for the 100mg Gabapentin was $0.05 per unit. 90 pills would have cost $4.50 for a 2 months supply or $2.25 for 1 month. That's $161.15 upcharged for a single prescription. All 3 of them together, I paid $223.45 over what I would have paid from a vet pharmacy, possibly close to that amount even in a human pharmacy. If you're curious, that's over 2760% markup. This greediness and predatory pricing tell me that this corporation's priority, like any corporation, is PROFIT. It shows me that they will enthusiastically exploit their clients' attachment to their animals as well as our almost complete reliance on what they tell us our animals need. They will target our ignorance of any other options available to us, ***specifically that we do not have to purchase meds from them and are entitled to request a written prescription we can have filled by an online vet pharmacy and that for a huge number of meds, we can even purchase from our own pharmacist. I know for a fact that not all vets engage his these unethical types of deceptive practices and that many greatly value our trust. I know it's possible to fill a vet prescription at a human pharmacy because it was a vet a few years ago who suggested it when prescribing medication he told me would be more affordable if I got it from the pharmacy. I'm sure the vets at DMV are as invested in maintaining client's trust in them. But unfortunately, they are bound by the corporation that employs them which makes it clear to me that I cannot blindly give my trust to the DMV Lachine, and certainly not when there's $6000 of money I've yet to find that is on the line. I no longer trust their pricing, estimates,dog's or their priority on profits. I no longer trust them. I will be requesting my dog's file and results in order to start searching for a specialist. If I have to drive to St Hyacinthe, Ottawa, or Quebec city, I will. But DMV, never again, I'm done. Read around, so many horror stories, so many people being charged outrageous amounts, stay away from there. They are thieves. read more

Specialist Healthcare Professionals, full stop. Everyone was awesome. Helpful, caring and effective staff. Every step of the process was communicated clearly, with costs, benefits and options discussed in an empathetic way. This is not easy to do, but they do it very well. Care for my pet was tops, with a great outcome. Costs for veterinary emergency care are often difficult - particularly for us healthcare-blessed Canadians who aren't used to medical care having direct costs - so emergency vet bills can seem alarming. On occasions when I need to take my pet to the vet emergency, it makes me appreciate our healthcare system all the more. For what it's worth, having recently relocated to Montréal, DMVs costs were lower than I expected based on what I had previously paid in other cities. I NOT would suggest coming here, even as an emergency vet. They take your "reserve" 200$ money, make you wait 2-5 hours (5 hours for us) , although I know it's on an emergency level basis, our animal was in not good shape. They mention being "24/7" but I would not suggest coming after 7pm, because they have maybe 2 vets by that time. FYI, if you're a native English speaker (wether or not you speak French) they are not too keen on you. Maybe just a hunch, but over the 5 hours of waiting, we noticed that the auxiliary vet came to check all the pets of French speakers and never to the English. (3-4 French people got their animals check in the wait area while 6-10 English speakers did not see her once). (Another example, two groups of 2 people, who waited from 9:30 pm on a Friday night were told at 1:30 am to either wait another 6 hours or go to another vet (their other one in Blainville) to get treated faster) Lovely read more

This is the worst experience I have ever had. They take your money up front prior to giving next to no help. ($258). Then had us wait 2.5 hrs to charge us another $600 and threaten by not keeping her overnight we were risking our pets lives. I'm in utter shock and disturbed with how my dog was treated at the DMV Lachine. This place should not be allowed to care for dogs. I brought my dog in because she had blood in her urine(keep in mind my dog is blind and hard at hearing which they were told that multiple times, her vet was closed because they had covid cases). They wouldn't allow anyone to be with theirs dogs so we all had to wait outside(I understand why, now, so you don't see the abuse they cause on your animals) we were there for 8 hours! I kept asking how she is doing and they told me "she's stable", I asked if she's been given water because we've been here for so long...the 3 people I spoke to including the vet said "yes, of course". Well...I see my dog, she's historical, dry throat and it's CLEAR!!!! she needs water!!!! I said wtf is wrong with her!?!?! The technician said "oh, she's not like this at home?" I look her like, really? Your going to lie to me now? I said obviously not!? She needs water!?!?? Did you give her water? "Yes, of course". I said clearly not!? And why is she full of dirt!?? "Oh we bring them outside" okay then why is her stomach full of dirt!?! Where was she!?!?! "Oh we have them in a cage" so I said outside? Because she's full of dirt on her stomach this makes no sense!!! And I said you had her in a cage for 8 hours, she's blind and old age and gets confused, how big was the cage!?!...she didn't respond and looked at me like deer in the head lights....my dog flopped over in needing a LOT of water/relief to see me. I started to cry, this was very hard to see how mistreated she was for 8 hours and they pretend like everything okay!. We got home at around 4am, she drank two full bowls of water, I noticed this morning that under her nails have been "shredded" a bit, as if she was trying to get away, her paws are red/some swollen. Her breathing is different as if they were choking her. This place SHOULD NOT BE OPEN!!! DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMAL THERE!! This is absolutely disgusting that an emergency vet clinic is open for these poor animals! Everyone needs to know about this! Put it on the damn news!!! Very poor customer service and not helpful at all. Went there with my pet last year due to a nighttime emergency, not much was open around so had no choice. Was very disappointed with the service in general. Gave them another chance last week; had an emergency at a time that it's hard to find help. Let's just say not much has changed. I understand they're open 24/7 but their employees seem fed up, irritated and tired and it certainly reflects the quality of their service and the efficiency of their overpriced "help". Nobody ever wants to go to an emergency vet. The very idea that you need one is pretty terrifying for most pet owners. That said, this place is the place I will always go to for my pretty emergencies. Friendly, courteous staff kept us up to date on where we were in the queue, and when Wed finally got to see the vet he was straightforward, professional, and compassionate - everything you can ask for. Two warnings though: 1) Expect a long wait, especially if your concern isn't life threatening - you will be triaged. Bring something to read, and eat (you're in the middle of nowhere) 2) You will likely see some horrific animal injuries while you're waiting. There will also be alot of crying people. I visited this clinic 5 times for the same problem with my cat and spoke to 6 different veterinarians and received a different diagnosis every single time. They take almost no time to deal with you and the waiting times are ridiculous. Terrible follow up and communication. They did all the wrong tests and charged a fortune for them. We performed 2 useless procedures that just made my cat suffer more for no reason. 4500$ later and they could never find the problem. I was here for the first time on Sunday. My daughter's cat needed attention so we found this place, which does 24/7 emergency animal care. Wow, does it ever come at a price. It was double our regular vet's prices. The place is beautiful and all of the staff was extremely nice but almost $500 to see a vet and do a blood test and check his throat is rough. No idea what was wrong with him, they were unable to tell us so he couldn't be treated. He sadly passed away the next day. Go if you absolutely cannot see your vet and it's an absolutely emergency, otherwise go to your own vet during business hours, the prices here will destroy your wallet. read more

The building is modern and clean. I was greeted immediately and served efficiently as the front desk employee went over the issues. Without too long a wait, I was able to see the vet. While no definitive issue was found, blood tests were done and some problems ruled out. I like that all the results will go to my regular vet for our scheduled visit. Yes, it's expensive. When you look at all the staff they have, you can easily understand why. Where else are you going to go when your usual vet can't fit you in? The pain is still very present in my heart. But it's sort of therapeutic to write for me. I had to euthanize my best friend yesterday due to a condition she had called cardiomyopathy. She was a doberman. The sweetest and most gentle companion that i have ever and will ever have... Anyways, on with the review. I took her to the dmv at 10 pm and they took her in right away. Scan, x-rays, meds, oxygen...LOVE, PATIENCE and TENDERNESS, COMPASSION were all parts of the treatment Lyloo had. They knew how to deal with a distress human, me. The vets, the technicians, the receptionists...everyone was so nice to us. They took the time to explain everything to me. They reassured me as much as possible and were so gentle with Lyloo. They respected my choices and tried to console me as much as possible. We had a room to say our last goodbyes and had all the time we wanted. We could of stayed two days if we wanted to. I'm sure of that. Everything was done with respect and my precious Lyloo was treated with love and dignity. I am thankful for the what they did. Yes. It can get expensive real fast. But keep in mind that this is more like an emergency hospital/vet. They do regular stuff too. Very high tech and they also have a FULL team of experienced staff from vets to receptionists. read more

DMV left pieces of wood in my dog requiring her to have an operation My dog got a nasty cut and needed urgent care. I immediately took her to DMV as my regular Vet wasn't open. I paid $200 for an emergency appointment and they took her in for an evaluation at about 11 a.m. At 1 p.m. the Vet asked if they could give her a sedative, I agreed. I asked how she was and they said they hadn't had time to look at her. At around 4 p.m. the Vet told me she needed surgery and provided me an estimate of $4,000 to $5000, that there would be a $200 surcharge if she went into respiratory failure. And I needed to make a $2000 deposit for surgery which would happen the next day. Take a look at the estimate. $200 surcharge in case she goes into cardiac arrest? Costs may vary? Not responsible for her personal belongings? Understand the technical aspects - how can any client understand the technical aspects? We're not vets. Anyway, I paid the deposit. The following morning, I keep calling to find out how she was and when the surgery would be scheduled. Finally, the reception gave me their email address to send my questions to. The Vet calls me and said, good news she doesn't need surgery; the surgeon has just looked at her. We only need to stitch and staple it, and the cost is now about $900. What? You said she needed surgery yesterday? How can you tell me my dog needs surgery and charge me a $2000 deposit when the surgeon never saw her? No response - dead silence from the Vet. Anyway, I want to get her out of there. So I tell them, okay do what needs doing to make her well, and I go pick her up and get a partial refund. I follow their treatment plan, see my regular Vet, and along we go. I keep sending my regular vet photos of how it's healing. It seems to be healing BUT then it isn't healing. My Vet says bring her in we need to take a look and they look and say nope something isn't right we need to operate. So operation happens, and what do they find left in my dog from DMV? PIECES OF WOOD THEY DID NOT REMOVE. Not just a few as per the photo, note that TWO OF THE PIECES ARE ALMOST 1/4" IN SIZE! Thankfully she is now recovered due to the care of another vet and my bill was less than $700. How can DMV charge $4000 to $5000 for an operation that should be $700? Yes, the Ordre des medecins veterinaires du Quebec has opened an inquiry. Yes, I have sent DMV notice that to refund the care they took of my dog. Yes, I am suing them. We had both our pet rats euthanized here due to age and mammary tumors on separate occasions. The first experience was better than the second but nonetheless was good overall. Note that if you're having your small rodent euthanized here, insist on them using an acrylic box and isoflurane to anesthetize first before giving an abdominal injection. If they say they will do an intracardiac injection (directly into the heart) insist on them using isoflurane and abdominal injection. The first time, the preferred euthanasia method was used without a problem, the second time, the front desk person said neither they nor anyone else knew about the acrylic box, so after settling on them using a mask to anesthetize our rat (out of our view, which added stress to the process), they eventually did find the box in the pre-op room. Both times we were allowed to view the whole procedure and have the rats die in our arms. Cost was a few dimes over 32 dollars for pets under 1 pound without cremation. read more

Please contact me, I had a horrible experience, I am completely traumatized and disgusted with the level of unprofessionalism and greed of this veterinarian. I had brought my 9-week old husky puppy there, who needed to be put down after choking on a treat on June 1, 2021, heartbroken, we put our baby Gracie, down. We dealt with Dr. Maud Leleur at the DVM, in the Lachine centre. We paid for her treatment. and to have her put down and disposed of her body in a respectful matter. Today Saturday, June 26, 2021, my husband receives a voice mail from this clinic 25 days later, asking what to do with our dead puppy's body. I cannot explain the shock and horror we feel. As we were both there, when they put Gracie, down, my husband held her in his arms while we both cried, we were assured that her body would be disposed of by being turn into water and sprayed over a forest, which brought us comfort, that her death might help something else live. We have tried to reach the clinic numerous times today to no avail to find out what is going on. We hope this was a mistake on their part. This experience has left me completely disgusted and mortify with this veterinarian's behaviour and disregard. I don't want to believe that this vet is still trying to extort us for cash 25 days after our puppy is dead but this matches our experience with her. From the time she, got our credit card number, she was only interested in what they could bill us for and showed no care or interest in my puppy Gracie's well-being. As I previously mentioned, my puppy choked on a puppy treat, I was able to remove it and do CPR to bring her back to Consciousness. But notice, she was struggling to breathe, so we rush to this vet who was the only vet open. I told the vet, what had happened, 3 hours later of hearing nothing from this vet, was when I threaten to take my dog to our vet in the morning as something didn't feel right to me. At that time we were made aware of the fact that my puppy had saliva or blood in her lungs and couldn't breathe. Since she was so young that she would probably die, as her lungs were not developed, even why my puppy was dying and she knew it she was still trying to get more money out of us. She should have told us this immediately instead she chose to make us wait 3 hours in our car, as she was only interested in billing us while our puppy struggled for air. The only reason we found out this information was that I trusted my gut and insisted on getting my puppy back. At that point, she told us that we should put her down. I was on the fence about writing a review about this as it's extremely painful and still a very fresh wound in our family. Until they contacted my husband, today, June 26, 2021, 25 days after they were supposed to have disposed of the body of our dead puppy, they asked us what to do with the body. First of all who would leave a message like that on somebody's voice mail on Saturday. Why hadn't this been taken care of immediately after we left, when we put her down which was our understanding on June 1, 2021? Why did it take 25 days to contact us? That's when I knew that I had to warn others about this Veterinarian. Your action and carelessness have caused my family a tremendous amount of unnecessary pain and harm. You should be ashamed of yourself. Since I cannot get a hold of you please contact me directly to let me know what is going on. It is truly shameful that the only way I can get any information from you is to write a google review. If you love your pets please don't go here, I am crying as I write this review knowing my puppy suffered because of this vet, please don't bring your pets here. Imagine that you come to see a doctor for a diarrhea and the very first thing you're told is that it's extremely important to exclude the cancer, so they recommend a full medical exam. Then you're offered an option: xray for 400$ and eco for 600 and you're immediately told that the chances are high that cancer will not be seen on xray. So you accept the eco, already feeling you're manipulated but not having a choice, because you've been under a strong stress for the last 2 days. Do you expect your family doctor act this way? After the eco you're told that everything is OK, that they did everything they could (and nothing has changed) and that in the next 24 hours you will have a strong diarrhea. The technicians are not able to tell you anything else that is not on a standard booklet they give you. They are not able to answer any of your questions about the services having been given to you. You spent 1000$ for nothing. That what happened to me and my cat. I picked him up in a worse state that he was when we went there. I found the most incompetent technicians and the most cynical doctors that manipulated me extorting money for the most expensive services. The worst thing is that they don't even know how the cat body function! When the next day I went to my regular veterinarian who was finally back in the city, he told me that it was very dangerous not to feed my cat during all these days. The poor animal's digestive system stopped and the small blockage he had just didn't move. He showed me how to force-feed my cat to restart his digestive system, he increased the dosages I was given at DMV. Why didn't the DMV doctors tell me I must force-feed my cat ???? Did they expect his health deteriorate to the point when I have to leave him in their clinic overnight for 600$/day? At DMV they told me how the state of my cat would evolve in the next 2 days. Nothing of what they said happened. I received an adequate affordable service and a competent advice from an immigrant veterinarian working in a small old office, whilst the brand new shining large DMV locations employ only ignorance and orientation to profit. read more

We are switching over to the hospital in Brossard as this place is not trustworthy and their practices are very poor. I have no idea what to write, I wish I discovered this site before taking our dog to DMV Veterinaire in Lachine. We had the WORSE time of our life there. This is our story: Our 8 year old beagle that was a very healthy dog woke up one day crying and refused to move. We took him to our vet, after examining him he recommended an X-ray on his back. The X-ray showed he is suffering from a disk hernia. He told us that he needed surgery the sooner the better. He sent us to DMV Veterinaire in Lachine, and I WISH WE NEVER WENT THERE. Once we arrived, we had to wait about an hour, and we were the only one there! After they asked us to an exam room, they examined the dog and said he needed surgery as soon as possible. We agreed immediately as we wanted the best for our dog. They said the cost would range between $3,500 and $5,000 and they took a $3,000 deposit. They called us about 2 hours later to tell us that the surgery went well and the dog is in the recovery room. We went immediately there and we saw our dog with a big scare on his back standing on his front paws. The surgeon came and told us, that time will tell if he regain sensations in his rear leg, and said his condition is not a life threatening and should do well. The following day, our dog was doing badly he could no longer stand, we told the technician that he is not well, she said he is fine, we insisted on seeing a vet, and the vet came and said it is normal after a big surgery. The next day he was WORSE, he was just lying down, we again insisted on seeing the vet, we told him he looks hilarious, bloated and seemed in pain, he said no he is fine, the vet did not seem concerned or knowledgeable, he was just talking big talks which was all bs....until I received a call that night at 3am saying my dog was dying...Nobody told us what he died from. The staff is inexperienced, careless and not knowledgeable about our dog's condition. There is ABSOLUTELY no communication between staff members. We would inform them at least twice a day that something was wrong, but they always had an excuse saying this was normal and didn't seemed concerned. He became paralyzed, delirious, his body bloated and his heart could no longer take it. Doctors can't give us a reason why this happened. All their supposedly theories and they were "just theories" make no sense. After extensive research and seeking opinions from other vet's an infection would have caused his death. STAY AWAY FROM THIS INSTITUTION IF YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR DOG ALIVE. I wish I read all these reviews before taking our dog there. We spent $4,704 and our dog died. We just filed a complaint with the ORDRE DES VETERINAIRE DU QUEBEC and in the process of filing a lawsuit. read more

If you love your pet, stay away from this place. With the amount of money they roll in, they can easily pretend to care for your pet. They will give you every excuse in the book to have you believe that they've done everything in their possibility, and will behave very charmingly, but the incompetence that happens is beyond words. And even then, some vets are not so charming. DMV is a stressed environment, and the veterinarians are even more stressed, yelling at the clients. This will naturally impact upon the pet as they vent out their frustrations upon the pet. After all, it's not their pet. When the pet dies due to their incompetence and technical mishandling, they'll let you grieve for a couple of months then have brazen audacity to think they can put their accounts up to date and send you another bill for what they think they need to maintain their facilities. They don't care about the client or the pet. Those are just commodities for them. Due to this, I'm presently placing a lawsuit against them for personal injury and to make aware to the public that DMV has many horror stories. People need to become aware of this place and understand that whatever positive reviews they read, are totally unrealistic to the DMV environment. The receptionists are trained to be diplomatically friendly, but this doesn't mean a hill of beans when your pet has a possibility to survive, and you witness first-hand the bungling mistakes and incompetence that these people do, from vets to the technicians who chime in. When you're left with the trauma of your pet having died due to their mistakes, and you know very well that you're not in emotional denial, you will NEVER find closure in realizing that the circumstances could have turned out better if they would not have been so incompetent. i'm sincerely discussed by my experience, they gave my dog an IV and a few meds for 850$ They wanted to do more tests which at the end of the day would have cost me about 4000$ if not more. They take advantage of the people in an emotional situation and empty their pockets. If you refuse some treatments well they write in their report that the ''owner does not seems to be understanding the situation" I don't think they meant for me to see the report but I did. What was supposed to be a non life-threatening operation turned into us watching our dog suffer a slow and painful death. The staff was inexperienced, careless and never seemed knowledgeable about our dog's progress and condition. Serious lack of communication between staff members.
