A word of warning, around this time the HSC students are cramming through the doors - but good on them because this place offers some really good HSC workshops. Downstairs you can book out study rooms for groups and they're so high tech now that the rooms are even sound-proof. The fiction section is tucked away in the corner, but they have a big selection to choose from. You can always get them to order in from other libraries as well if they don't. Good thing about borrowing books is it's free to register (you need an adult to sign for children), and you can avoid late fines up to a limit of $20 before you're unable to borrow from them again (not that I encourage this). They also have an online catalogue you can check out before you head over to save you some time. Their renewal system works this way too, all you need to do is log on. They have a special room designated to find the history of the Kogarah area, right down to colonial times, which helps if you're trying to find relatives that far down the track. The staff here are pretty resourceful, the kind that don't make you feel like an idiot for asking them questions.

There is a great number of large print books and audiobooks. I love that new modern libraries have got on the technological band wagon and have ebooks and eAudiobooks and even emagazines. The staff are ready to help and train the non technologically minded. There are numerous leaflets on the resources available for the library. This library really extends itself within the community. Lane Cove Library delivers books, DVDs, audiobooks etc to people who are disabled, or frail and live in the area. There is not a problem in organising this service. The library is located in the middle of the village of Lane Cove. A short arcade of shops is alongside the library. So have a bite to eat before a relaxing time in the library. There is very easy access to people who have mobility issues. And....the library is quiet!

Yes, it's obviously quite old but to be honest by the end of the day I'm quite smitten. Located in Sydney's busy west, even if you're a local you'll need to fight your way through the traffic to get there but once into the course itself there is a certain country feel to this small metropolitan track. Not as big as Rosehill or Randwick you feel up close and personal with the horses as they race by whilst you try locate the number on your beasts saddle cloth. If you're like me, it's usually one of the ones towards the end. There are enough food options to suffice, there are obviously enough places to place a bet and there is a nice relaxed feel to this day and place. Sure it's old and run down but I've enjoyed my day out at 'The Farm'. I'll be back!
