It's quiet since we were the only guests for our last 3 days. We enjoyed the Bohemian Lair suite which had a full kitchen, nice seating area, king bed and huge bathroom with rain shower. There is a community kitchen and large dining area downstairs. The hosts were extremely accommodating since our flight landed in Merida at 8am, we arrived at 9:30am and were able to drop our luggage and headed for brunch. Alyssa texted at 11am and our room was ready! This is definitely a place to stay while in Progreso! Thank you, Alyssa and Christopher, for a wonderful stay. We are planning to return soon!

Phenomenal place!…read more My wife and I stayed here twice in September 2019. We came back because there's nothing better for the price in Progreso and it is SO peaceful and comfortable! My wife had to stay in the local hospital for two nights due to salmonella poisoning that she had gotten in Cancun two weeks earlier. We had already spent three nights here before things went sideways, and there was nowhere better for her to recover than here. Alyssa the host/owner made sure a room was ready for us and had someone meet us at the door for an early check in. The hotel is beautiful and tranquil, and Alyssa speaks perfect English and Spanish. It's almost like she grew up in Southern California. (She did, lol.) There is one large studio apartment style room and several regular rooms. The rooms and grounds are in the style of a large Merida home. The attention to detail is astounding. The entire place is maintained to U.S./Canadian standards. The fixtures, the decor, the inner courtyard, the pool. Plus, it is essentially an art gallery as well, with high quality art done in every medium and decorating everything. And it's all hidden behind an attractive low key building front. What a find! We paid $75US (off-season) through the hotel website. No TV's and no bathtubs. (But bathtubs are virtually nonexistent in Mexico anyway. Shame.) A/C in every bedroom and hot water always available. In this area those two things are NOT guaranteed. The hotel is away from the craziness of downtown Progreso, if that's what you like. No bar and no restaurant. Full access is allowed to the coffee area and kitchen. But restaurants and bars and tiendas, etc., are all within easy walking distance. The beach is one half block away. One more thing: The sounds are part of the stay! Soft classical or jazz or Sinatra is playing indoors, while a fountain tinkles and birdsong is played outside in the courtyard by the pool. (Oh ya, and the landscaping in the courtyard has flowers and plants all meticulously maintained.) Even though most guests are out early and all day exploring everything there is to do around here, if you get stuck like we were, this is the place!

Located on the Malecon, SIL and her husband were generous enough to book us a room facing the…read morebeach. And it was convenient that their room was right next to us. But before the pros, let's do the CONS first. 1. No elevators, so if you have issues going up and down the stairs, try to book a room on bottom floor. 2. The water pressure on the showerhead is so weak, so taking a shower will take longer than usual. It didn't help that the showerhead was installed incorrectly (see attached video.) 3. There are no phones in the rooms, so if you need anything from the staff, you'll have to speak to them at the concierge. 4. Our safe didn't work, but they alleviated that problem by giving us the key to use it manually. 5. It took a minute for the AC to work, but when it did, it was great. 6. I found a lot of crap under the beds, which told me they don't clean the room as thoroughly as they should. This prompted me to clean everything we used in the kitchen. And on to the PROS: 1. Complimentary bottles of water. And they came in handy! 2. A rinsing station right up front to clean off your feet if you were coming from the beach. This is a clever idea. 3. Staff was always ready to help when you need them. 4. They provide towels for whenever you need them for the pool or the beach. (They give each guest a card which you turn in for a towel and get back once you're done with it.) 5. The kitchen has all the basic equipment in case you decide to use it. (It came pretty handy when we wanted to reheat some of our leftovers/takeout from eateries we went to.) 6. Beds were clean and comfortable. Nothing to complain about that! 7. The TV works! Basic channels, but still. IT WORKS! 8. And this tops all of it: the view is AMAZING. Once you step out, you forget about all the CONS. It is incredible, breathtaking, and just... you know what, just book a room with a view, and you'll understand. ;) We had a wonderful stay. I would consider staying here again given the chance. I'm hoping for upgrades by then. (But they got time... I know it'll be a long minute before that next visit.) Definitely something to look forward to!

I'm torn between giving the Playa Linda Hotel a 3/5 star rating or a 4/5... On one hand, GREAT…read morelocation and beautiful views if you're facing the beach (which we were). We also had a balcony which was so fun and exactly what you picture having for a beachside stay. Also the friendly staff were welcoming and present most of the day - although a bit of a language barrier. My hesitancy on a higher rating ultimately comes from the noise level. I can understand the logical amount of noise from the street- it is after all a busy area and a vacation destination. However, within the hotel there's a lot of noise that comes from other guests. The walls must not be very insulated as we heard other guests' music all night, conversations, crying babies, and doors slamming very loudly, so much so it startled us repeatedly. Also, I don't know if it was just that it was the end of our trip and we were just exhausted or needing the comfort of our own space back home, but we simply could not sleep well at Playa Linda. The beds don't seem too uncomfortable but we tossed and turned every night. Also they didn't provide comforters which made it hard to keep the AC on without getting cold, yet too hot to not have it on. I think maybe I would've enjoyed the place more had we just had a 2 night stay, but after 4 nights we were ready for somewhere else. (Also, we noticed a lot of bugs accruing in our room by the end which was bothersome. Maybe we left our balcony doors open too long or our bananas were just too good :P fruit flies en masse, and the occasional mosquito who love me) But truly I would recommend the Playa Linda, especially if you snag a balcony room or just have a slightly shorter stay. We loved strolling down the boardwalk first thing in the morning and sitting out on the balcony midday for a rest and ambiance.

Ok, I'm gonna start:…read more The staff was friendly. That was ok. The location was pretty good, just in front of the beach. Good too. My room. AWFUL. I don't gonna talk about the awful decoration because I don't really care about that, but my room (number 6) had A LOT of humidity. It was THAT bad that my laptop mac stopped working the second night. Yes. My mac book. Gone. I told them and they changed my room, this time to a better one, but still, no window, a lot of noise of people screaming on the stairs at night, nobody said anything to them. Well, at least it had an A/C and the bathroom was better as the number 6, witch was a cave. Somebody told me that the hotel was pretty new, that they opened a year ago or so. I can imagine that a building in front of the beach in Yucatan can get a lot of humidity, but this was another level. I can't imagine 5 years from now. I'm sure you would be able to snorkeling the floor. Oh, did I mention that I found water under my bed? Well, if you travel to Yucatan, congratulations, because it's amazing, but DO NOT leave your computer on that hotel, and if you do, put it in a plastic bag with a rice package inside to trap the water. Have fun!
