Century 16 and XD - Cinema Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

Century 16 theater is one of three options it seems in Anchorage. Dimond and tikatnu are your other ones. Dimond is Regal and Century/Tikatnu are Cinemark. I don't really have a preference. At Century, you pick an assigned seat when you buy your ticket so it's best to do ahead of time to get your group together. The seats also recline and are heated for short spurts, which is lovely. Just don't fall asleep. Not always free of popcorn when you come sit down. Seems to be hard to find a time that works sometimes for your schedule depending on your availability. They have two sides of concessions that are the same. Standard popcorn, small medium large, some fun buckets depending on the promotion. Not sure about kids box. They also have blue raspberry, cherry, and coke slushees. I opt for coke. Nachos which are a packaged cheese sauce with a small bag of Tostitos chips. No more cheese sauce you pump from a box onto your chips. Works better for everyone probly. Your variety of candies, but I wouldn't pay for them. They used to have the self serve gummies in bulk but not anymore. I'm not even sure I've been to a movie out of state that I remember, so comparing ours to other chains is not an option. I rarely visit Century 16 and XD anymore, but we recently visited to watch the new "Wakanda Forever," Thursday night premiere. Since a highly anticipated movie was premiering, the parking lot was packed like the good ole' days. It was refreshing to see. I remember when every cashier would have a long line in front of them, but thanks to Fandango those days are over. Scan your tix and keep it moving. The majority of the building looks original. The concession area is still kept relatively clean. Century 16 had signage that they no longer give free refills on the large size popcorn FYI. Prices are the same - expensive. It's the movies, you're paying for an experience. Our movie was showing in the XD theatre. I always prefer the spaced seating areas towards the middle, where you have space to breathe on either sides of you. The sound and picture were both crisp in this XD theatre. The recliner option on a lot of the seats are noticeably worn. I prefer Regal Dimond or Regal Tikahtnu when I'm willing to travel across the world, but Century 16 is great too. read more

The Accountant 2. Worth the ticket and time. It is a little scattered in the beginning as you try to grasp the objective of the chase. On the way there are some truly fun sequences. Chris (Ben A) figuring out the pattern for line dancing, drama when a favorite character loses a fight, but by the end it is wrapped up well. Light for a dramatic movie but it moves along well and has just enough blood shed & fight scenes to stay in dramatic mode. Thoroughly enjoyable. However I warn you I do not care for overly dramatic movies. I figure if I want my blood pressure raised I will go back to my day job. Go and enjoy it - it is so worth the time. read more

We used to make the trek to Tikatnu to watch movies but when we experieced the recliners here why drive 2 Times the distance! The last 2 movies here have been a real treat, 007 No Time To Die and yesterday House of Gucci! We use their website to order and pay for the tickets. When we get there we just scan the QR Code from our phone and get our snacks! Very conveniant! Cinemark has made a ton of improvements since my previous review. Chiefly among them: Better seats: They recline. They heat. You reserve them ahead of time. I was a little nervous about that last point. I like showing up at a movie unplanned, at kind of the last minute. I now have to plan a little: for a popular movie I go over and buy my seat(s) in advance. But guess what? Because I have a RESERVED seat, I can procrastinate EVEN more! I can roll in 10 minutes after the start time of the movie and still easily get to my seat (thanks to the luxuriously wide rows). Protip: Best kept secret in Anchorage is that, on Tuesdays, the movies here are SUPER CHEAP. I just wish they had better food and drink. Perhaps something local? Maybe some beer? read more

I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody last night ! It was one of my best nights at the movies ever ! Cinemark is celebrating its 20Th Anniversary this year and they are celebrating grandly ! They have just remodeled the entire theatre and it's wonderful . The seats are state of the art as are the screens and surround sound ! It was nice to be able to easily go from upright to full reclining positions during the movie . Did I mention the recliners are heated ? That is worth several stars in my book ! I was so sad that I might not be able to watch this Japanese anime playing in the theater since I wasn't in a bigger city, but you proved me wrong. The lounge chairs were super comfortable and I didn't have to toss and turn during 2 hours of sitting there. Good selection of snack available for purchase. Restroom is also very well maintained and clean. Loved the experience and would return for future movie viewing!! Parking lot is crammed and you will have to park on the side parking area if too busy. The new seats at Cinemark at terrible compared to the ones at Regal Theaters. They're much more cramped. I do appreciate that they're heated, but there is no way to turn the heat off if you don't want it. There's no space between the seats to put down your snacks like there is at Regal, but you're still not close enough to snuggle so meh... and the seats don't Truly recline , so I got a backache sitting there. The Regal seats ACTALLY Recline and are incredibly comfy. The Cinemark seats are kinda like a cheap imitation and they crammed a lot more seats into each theater. Very disappointing. read more

Like many travelers in Anchorage our hotel check-out is Noon & our flight isn't till 9PM. What to do with the Family? Hey how about killing a few hours at the movies? Except this theater isn't interested in your business. Like many travelers we all had small day packs, except they're not allowed. No ability to check them, no lockers to store them and refused our offer to inspect the contents of each one. Really killed our day after spending $25 to take a cab to this location. I have never been in another theater with this policy. Not sure what they're realistically worried about. The Manager seem delightedly smug in his refusal. They offer no possible solution except "Get Lost." I'd didn't realize that Cinemark Theaters were profitable that they wanted to throw away $100+ business. This theater chain won't be getting any of my business in the future. read more

Time sure flies, whether you are having fun or not! Has it been over a year since I stepped foot in this theater? Could be, and the reasons for that don't all center on the pandemic. The only time I can remember having a really good time here was when "Avatar" came out, so that can give one perspective. Quite frankly, I have had more negative experiences here, than positive, but that is due mainly to the mixed bag of patrons that flow through here. One doesn't really have to live in Anchorage for 40 plus years (as I have) to come to the realization that Midtown attracts all types from both ends of the spectrum. There are those that are considerate and mindful of their fellow seatmates, then there are those that are downright rude, and worst yet, creepy. Come to find out, having gone to see a movie at Century last night, nothing much has changed about this place, except the seats. Oooh, automatic reclining seats. That are not very clean. And look more comfortable than they actually are. Nice idea however, I suppose! Sometimes the movie times are more convenient for me here, than at any other movie theater in town. But if it weren't for that, well. I really wouldn't bother coming here at all. read more

A group of us had a private showing of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and it was great. The private showings really are a good deal, and it's fun having a whole theatre to your group. It's fine to get up, move seats, talk to people, whatever! We had a great time. Of course we got all the usual goodies, like popcorn, soda, and sour gummy worms, too. The whole theatre was clean, people were friendly, and service was great. I highly recommend private showings at this theatre for occasions. read more

If you're wanting to watch a 3D movie, make sure your glasses are good. Mine had oil and scratches on them, even if it came in a package. I'm thinking they just take the glasses from where we discard them and repackage without sanitizing or washing them. I didn't want to miss any of the movie so I just had to hold my glasses at an uncomfortable position the whole time. Plus the person I asked for extra butter on the popcorn only used one layer and didn't give extra butter. We asked for layers of butter, too. read more

Cumulatively, I've spent more time in this theatre than any other on the planet. I saw A Bug's Life here back when they had just opened and watched Power Rangers just this week. Many, many films have come and gone in the years between but the establishment has, overall remained the same. Enough history... it's a movie theatre. It's not the newest or nicest in town but it's up there and has aged well in the nearly 20 years since it was built. The symmetrical layout pleases my OCD and, having undergone a recent seating overhaul, I rarely have complaints about comfort. (Except for the occasional seat-kicking jerk, but that's less a symptom of the theatre itself as it is of questionable parentage.) The snacks available are about what you'd expect for a theatre: smothered in salt, sugar and hilariously over-priced. I'm a little ashamed to admit how often I partake in the $7 "Super Nachos" but artificial cheese product has always been a weakness of mine. They rarely disappoint. Sound and picture quality are top notch. (If you ask me, 3D movies could go extinct and I'd miss them about as much as the Chicken Pox but 3D is an industry trend unlikely to go anywhere, anytime soon.) This location holds its own well among other, newer theatres in town and I wish it many more years of success. (And shout-out to some of the crew that has kept her running since the late 90s - always nice to see familiar faces!) read more

I came down here with a friend last night for a free advance screening of Criminal with Kevin Costner. Cinemark, Century's website, sent me an e-mail offering me free passes for the movie just for being a member of their website. This is one of the awesome benefits I get for the theater from time to time in addition to coupons once a week for free or discounted snacks or drinks. We came in a little before 7PM, the time the movie starts. Normally, the place is packed, but it wasn't so bad when we came in on a Tuesday night. Popcorn and drinks were still pricey at under $20, but we made an exception for the free movie tickets. Otherwise, I usually just grab a bite to eat elsewhere and skip the concession stands and the long lines that come with it. The seating area was a full house, but we were able to catch a couple of seats off to the side overlooking the balcony. Most people tend to go for the center seats, but these seats offer a clear view of the screen away from the crowds even though we were seated at the far right side and there was no one obstructing the view of the screen since we were behind the balcony. We enjoyed the movie and it was a pleasant surprise to see a great film like this for free. It was a good way to spend a Tuesday night. One of the promotions for any Yelpers who love to watch movies are their monthly classic film festivals. Every Sunday and Wednesday, Century will show older films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, Full Metal Jacket, Goldfinger and countless others on a limited basis. They have now lowered the discount package to $30.00 from $35.00 if you want to see all seven classic films for the entire month. Another worthy note is that they hold special screenings of music concerts, two hour TV show movies, the Academy Awards, UFC bouts and video game tournaments that will be announced in future dates on their website. read more

Enjoyed a matinee movie on Valentine's Day with my husband. We were pleased to finally go back to Century after the OYE and being introduced to all the new features. I'm a planner by nature and when I saw I could buy tickets on the app two weeks in advance for the movie, I was pleased! Easy peasy, picked our seats and we were good to go. When we arrived, I opened the app and the nice young lady scanned my electronic tickets to give me the paper stubs. We looked at the ticket and it said theatre 10, however the marquee stated #16... we went with what was on the marquee stated. The theatre was empty and we quickly found our seats. We were settled in an a gentleman mentioned that we are in his seats. Hmph! It wasn't confrontational or anything, just a matter of fact. We were indeed, all four assigned to the same two seats. With assigned seating, it's not like you can just move over anymore. So we made our way out front and the ticket gal and manager were confused. Apparently when we purchased the tickets online, the movie was slated to be in one theatre and then they moved it; however they didn't move the purchased seats. Not major, just a small annoyance. The reclining seats are such a great addition, along with the seat heaters. We did find the theater to be uncomfortably cold, even my husband who is rarely cold was and used his seat heater. It was nice to go to Century again; it's not our usual theatre due to location. read more

This theater is great, the seats are comfortable but do not recline. The movie screen is super clear HD, totally love the movie quality and the sound was great too. The seats are not assigned is first come first serve. The tickets were cheap too, it was $30 for 3 people. The snack area is pretty well stocked. There is Starbucks coffee available and then your usual movie theater snacks. Free ice water . Overall, very pleased with the theater, we are in town for vacation and watches the Beauty and the beast. Which by the way, is a great movie. read more

We went here during a snow day in Anchorage! They have three different prices, one for "the movie of the day" and then the matinee price, and then the normal price. They do not give you a senior discount unless you ask for it specifically (my dad). I love the concessions set up, you fill your own soda and pick up any candy or extras you want. I do wish you could put your own butter on the popcorn as I definitely like a lot of butter. read more

This use to be THE theater to go to. The Scooped ice cream to have at any movie is reason enough to come here. The arcade is decent for what we have in anchorage, it's even better than the new theater. The screens are great. Location is suburb being in midtown. So why the three star review? Firstly I have yet to be here out of the past ten years and have yet to see the second concession line open, you have to make sure you get here a bit of time before your movie so you can stand in this slow line. If you forgot something after your movie has started you better prepare yourself to miss at least ten minutes of your movie. Secondly, the seats are horrible, if they would just replace them. While you can lean back in them at the same time yiubalsonget the concrete behind you to dig into your back. The arms don't raise in the chairs (at least not in theater 2). You could font infinite and get recliners, Tikahtnu for nice new plus comfy seating, or totem for better seating to see a 2nd run film, even bears toothsome old grungy seating is better... I do love how they just played "A Nightmare before Christmas on Halloween :) read more

Went to Avengers Endgame and the 3 hours flew by because of auditorium 9. Nine has soft recliner chairs. Nine has reserved seating. Nine is AWESOME and always worth the extra $$$. Century 16 also has pretzel nubs with warm creamy cheese - I always get the pretzels. So good. read more

The movie theater managers here are the worst! They have a 'no backpacks' rule which I understand. But they gave us no option. We are in town for 1 day and have been walking all over the city. We walked 2 miles to the theater to catch a show before our plane leaves tonight only to be told we couldn't come in because we had backpacks. We told them they could search our backpacks or we would put them aside and get them after the movie, we would do whatever but we had no vehicle to put them in. At least give us an option. They turned us away. They were so rude. read more

What a great movie theater! I always go to CineMark in Washington but this is the first time I've been to one with heated seats! Fantastic! This will be my go to theater when I visit in the future. Staff is friendly and everything clean. I also want to note that I've noticed promos offering free popcorn and tickets in the mail! Be sure to download the app and get yourself points if you're a movie goer! Can't imagine that there would be a better theater in the area. read more
