Went for breakfast ahead of some shopping at cross iron and man, what an absolute let down the service/food was. Waited almost 5 minutes after we sat down to get acknowledgment from one of the two servers. First one came over and brought menus and didn't ask if we wanted beverages, and then disappeared. Second one came over and asked if we wanted drinks, took the drink order and vanished. First guy came back to take our food order and as he was doing that the second came back with our drinks. The gong show didn't end there. We watched tabled that were seated after us get their orders, all while the servers seemingly avoided our table. When our food finally did come, it was very obvious that it had been forgotten by our server cause the plates were scaldingly hot and the shredded hash browns were crispy and dried out. Not once did a server come ask how things were, cause we would have let them know, but they just wandered around and left us feeling like we were an inconvenience to their day. Got our bill, and waited for them to take our payment, but they vanished yet again. It took one of us going up to the bar to have our bill settled. The lady at the bar asked how things were and I was quite honest with her and said I was really disappointed in both the food and the service, compared to how other people were getting treated and how great their food looked. Had the all day breakfast this afternoon, i had ordered my eggs over easy, got my eggs which were very well done and my toast was burned, when I brought it to the servers attention, I was told to take the bacon off my plate, I had said the bacon would be very cold when the rest of my meal was completed, told it would be fine, my bacon was ice cold but wasn't offered any thing to better my meal. Saw the menu online and was impressed by the ingredient combinations that seemed like the entrees would be stellar tasting. Tried this restaurant. Our server was either new or just slow. Place was not busy mid week a bit after lunch. Took forever to get the menus. Server didn't know anything about my inquiry about an entree and didn't offer to ask the kitchen. A long wait for the meal. Then long wait to get the bill. Ordered fish with scallops over a kohlrabi mash that wasn't even lukewarm. Caesar salad was ok, but the celery sticks served with wings were limp and translucent, like they had been frozen prior to a thaw. Had the smoked ribeye tonight and it was probably the worst steak I have ever had. Ordered medium rare and it came out raw. The herb butter on top was ice cold and no chance of melting. Sent the steak back and thought I would get another one grilled properly, but no, they brought back the original steak. Ended up not eating half of it due to grizzle. My wife and I are seniors and don't get out as much as we used to. We looked forward to attending the racetrack for the first time in years. We had no idea that there was a big event going on. Although, we were looking forward to sitting outside and watching the races, we were stopped at the exit and told we weren't allowed! Ended up sitting in a crowded eating area and watching the races on a television. The worst part though, was the betting app. I had used the mobile betting app to place all my preliminary bets before the race started. It proceeded to lock me out and I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to open it back up. At the end of the day I was able to withdraw the balance, but have no idea what I won on what race. There is a restaurant located inside the Century Downs Casino called The Derby. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays they have "specials". We found this out by accident. So on Thursday evening, after some shopping at the nearby Cross Irons Mall, we came here for dinner and their special this evening was Prime Rib for $8.99. It's a 6oz that comes with gravy, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, and a Yorkshire pudding plus horse radish. It was delicious!!! Everything on the plate was perfect!!! I'm not one to eat beef especially rare and still any pink to it, and I seldom do, so I requested mine to be "well done" and "tell the chef to burn it and I won't complain". When my plate came, I could see those beautiful criss cross markings on it and it was indeed cooked well done. Although people cringe and say I'm ruining a good meal by requesting my meat to be cooked this way, it by no means ruined it. In fact, it was one of the best prime rib dinners I've had in my life!!! It wasn't at all chewy but still tender to the chew and the sides were a bit charred to give it that slight crispiness and flame broiled taste. The mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, Yorkshire pudding, and gravy were all really good as well. We ordered a side of garlic toast to share and it was also tasty and delicious. There was a bit of a line up to be seated but only ten minutes for us. It seemed like it was a popular night for people to come out and get this deal because the line up was longer by the time we finished and were leaving. Service was exceptional. Friendly servers who were quick in getting drink orders as soon as you were seated, refills on water, checking up on how the food is and so on. For an extremely busy evening this is appreciated. The restaurant is clean and where we sat, it has large windows looking out to the racetrack. After dinner we played some slots and it must've been a lucky night for me because I sat down and played 2 cents slots for only 3 or 4 minutes... and I got the Bonus thingy and won $202.40!!!!!!!!! A delicious prime rib dinner and instant winnings at the slots! What more could a girl ask for on a Thursday evening after a hard day at work?!?!?! My mother brought us here (I say here because I am still here writing my review) for a Fathers Day "brunch" buffet with my 91 year old grandfather. Brunch, they kept calling it. Brunch they said. $20 a head - cash only. We arrive. It's not brunch. It's less than 10 dishes none of which are - OK I'm going to pause this for a second to tell you that as a person with eating things (gluten free, vegetarian) I DO NOT IN ANY WAY expect a gluten free vegetarian buffet. I do, however expect to see some items that are fitting with "brunch" at a brunch this was NOT the case. It was like a luncheon for a board meeting, two meats, green beans a soggy veggie tray and some desserts. I thought, OK I'll have some salad and a cup of coffee and accept that my eating needs aren't typical BUT WE HAD TO PAY $2.50 for a cup of terrible drip coffee. AT A BUFFET THAT WAS $20/person. No water was offered to us. Just a cash bar with an unhappy bartender and expensive beer. $7 for a grasshopper for my Papa. So, I went down stairs to the grill where they have "All day breakfast" according to their menu - which is not true! That's their OLD menu. I just wanted some god damn eggs. And then out of the heavens arrived Pam who is currently hooking me up with two scrambled eggs that she convinced the cook to make. Pam is a real champ. She's a good manager and I truly felt for her and everyone working at this godforsaken place. As I'm writing this I know that I sound like an insanely entitled yuppie, who is sad for missing her eggs Benedict, but really what I am is a customer who is pissed at false advertising and LITERAL HIGHWAY ROBBERY (it's at Cross Iron Mills) 20/head for a brunch that ain't a brunch, with no coffee, no too sweet orange juice, no tap water in a plastic cup. Just warm bottles of pop and cans of beer. Don't advertise something you're not doing. Don't take advantage of people looking to celebrate Father's Day with a brunch. What a joke! An example of total chaos and disorganization. It started right from the opening, with patrons being totally confused on the procedures for registering and entering contests. The casino seems to be much smaller than other casinos in the Calgary area. By 1:00 PM the casino was over crowded with no vacant machines. Once the racing opens the parking lot is way too small. We had the misfortune to go to the restaurant, which was well appointed and looking out upon the race track. Although at this time, 11:15 AM, the restaurant was not busy, it took 20 minutes to place our order. We left after 2 hours and had not yet received our meals. Promises that our meals were on the way kept us waiting. Because our orders never arrived it is impossible to comment on the foods presentation and quality. This is easily the worst casino my friends and I have visited. My friends and I agree: "We won't be back"! I wish them luck! They are going to need it. read more

I've been to this casino a couple of times and every time I go, everyone looks depressed, like they rather play Russian roulette! The machines don't pay like other casinos. I even asked the security guard if this casino pays big and he said No, it actually never pays big!! Couldn't believe it, that he wouldn't even stick up for his place of work. My wife and I have been to this casino 4 times, and the 4th time was our last. We thought we would give it one more try, and there was really no change in the service at the restaurant, the staff are so unfriendly except for the bartender. Food quality was disgusting, the wait time to be seated was 15 minutes, and we waited 35 minutes for our food to arrive. We played some video games for about 2 hours, spent $100 each, never won anything and did not see anyone win any type of jackpot while we were there. The casino is quite a drive from where we live in SW Calgary, so we will enjoy our local casinos rather than return to Century Downs in Iron Mills. read more

I've been to Century Downs about 6 times now, and it's time I reviewed it. Century Downs is a small casino located near Cross Iron Mills, just north of Calgary. The casino itself offers a range of slot machines and digital blackjack and roulette, as well as local and remote race betting, featuring its own track for harness racing (with more types of racing coming in the future). Parking is decent, and since its off-reserve, it's one of the non-smoking casinos in the area. This place is also rarely crowded because of its somewhat remote location. The lounge area features a number of big TVs, and most major sporting events get screen time for those that like to sip on a beverage while they take a break from the slots. The restaurant at the Casino is pretty tasty, as well. With regular specials with things like wing night, it's a nice alternative to some of the busy pubs around. The waitresses are all very friendly, if somewhat inexperienced, and very willing to make your visit pleasant. The drink selection has also improved considerably in recent months, now featuring a number of local brews in addition to the big brands. The only downside to the menu is that the prices are a bit high compared to some casinos, and you will need a player's club card to take advantage of the specials. That being said, the club does offer addition coupons and freebies, so it's not a bad deal since a free membership anyway. Even if you're not a gambler, this is worth a trip to grab a bite and see the race track during the warm months. read more

We went to see the new attraction and couldn't believe how unorganized the whole place was. The set up for getting to the bar or waiting to be seated for the restaurant was not planned out well. We waited for what seemed like for ever in line for dinner and didn't even get acknowledge by any staff. Finally when the hostess appeared she wasn't pleasant to the customers at all and notified us it would be at least 45 minutes for our dinner order to be cooked. At this point we left! Waited 30 minutes for a seat, to find out half the tables were empty. Ordered a coffee, and was served a dirty cup, no cutlery to stir my coffee. Had to take some off another table. Had the century burger, nothing special or filling, but I guess what do you get for $11 these days. End result is not to bother wasting your time and money eating at the casino. Was in this evening with a group of 5 friends. The service was standard but efficient. The food sounded great when we placed our order. Well the clubhouse I ordered was dry and lacking any turkey. My sister was not impressed with her grilled chicken burger as her fries were ice cold. Ate today at the Grill here at Century Downs. We were seated quickly and got our drinks soon after. My hubbys reuben sandwich came out hot and good. My cobb salad left a lot to be desired. It was a large bowl of lettuce with along the sides: hardboiled egg, 3 slices of avocado, 4 slices of tomato and same of cucumber. Now it didnt look appetizing at all, more like a cheap house salad (altho i have had better house salads than this). Then i realize its missing the crumbled blue cheese. It was brought out separate after i pointed it out. But then after i finished it, was still bugging me that something else was missing. Pulled up the menu online and yep they also forgot the maple glazed walnuts and dried fruit. Wow you actually forgot to put 3 items on my salad!! Horrible quality control. That was a $13 house salad. Our first visit to Century Downs was good. Took a few minutes to be acknowledged to be seated, but once we were, service was good. Our waitress was Claudia and she was attentive as she could be as she was the only one working the restaurant. Food was good and arrived quickly. Any new establishment needs time to work out the bugs, so for people to be as critical as they are is unfair. read more

We have been in this Casino numerous times playing VLT, having lunch and dinner with friends ; we all enjoyed the atmosphere and services there, but today the encountering with the front desk personnel was best described with only one word " AWFUL". We were in the casino at about 5 pm on Sept 13, 2018, my wife and myself have invited 2 couples to meet us in the Casino for prime rib dinner , we took our friends to the front desk first to sign up for membership , we have all retired this year with lots of leisure times, visit to the casino is another leisure activity for us. The two personnel working at the front desk were very COLD upon approaching , unfriendly is the appropriate word to describe their attitude to us during the membership sign up process . We were very polite and calm despite encountering the rude , unfriendly attitude by these two personnel "Tracey and Michelle"working at the front desk. I voiced my concern afterwards to Michelle and asked to speak to the manager, Michelle replied stating she is the manager, she continued to say she is a serious person in response to my complaint with the unfriendly attitude,implying to me that there is nothing much she could do because she is a serious person in nature and she is the manager in charge, there was nothing wrong ...........laughing inappropriately with no eye contact with me and was looking at the computer the whole time during my conversation with her. Tracey was very abrupt and rude as well, she threw the ballot paper on the counter with no explanation to our friends, starring at my wife when my wife told our friends that she was very rude by throwing the ballot on the counter , furthermore, she did not show our friend with no introduction of how to use the membership card machine, her attitude was changed immediately when she heard I voiced my complaint to Michelle. Definitely smaller than other casinos in town and selection in slots and food are very limited and there are no "live" table games. I forgot my ID entering the casino and without a doubt was told that I could not stay. I understood the procedure and agreed to leave immediately. However, when I told this VERY rude security guard that I needed to find a family member before leaving he told me angrily that "this is not the exit," I responded to him saying that if he did not trust me he could escort us to find the family member and we will all promptly leave. Instead, he put on a scary demeanour and forced me to remove myself from the premise. I understand the policy and made absolutely NO fight to leave and accommodated to them, BUT the staff has no right to be exceptionally rude and to take it past his role into power tripping us to leave and then standing outside the door like a guard thinking that we will sneak back in. I felt extremely wronged, and obviously (reading the comments of other costumers talking about a rude security guard) this problem has not been dealt with and the security team is still a bunch of staff that has no regards to costumer service and respect towards anyone.
