I love the renovation they did a few years ago to the Century Rowland theater. I don't go to the theaters frequently, but when I do I come here. The seats are leather and they recline which is very nice. There are several screens so it's a decent sized movie theater. The concession stand is also renovated and they added an area with a bar tap. There is parking on both sides of the theater. It seems like the parking lot on the right side gets more packed than the left side. There is disabled parking and a charging station for electric cars right out front. read more

This theater is amazing! I love almost everything about it. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They are really kind and just good people. The movie plays at a great volume. It is never too loud or too quite. (Update: it was too loud for Return to Silent Hill . ) Nothing has ever obstructed the projection or interrupted the movie. The seats are comfortable and spacious. They even have themed popcorn containers and merch. The ONLY drawback is the perpetually stale popcorn. It is truly tragic, but that popcorn is always stale. Sometimes it's even cold. I really hope y'all fix this because everything else is great. Yes, they have kettle corn too, which would be great if it wasn't also stale. read more

I really wanted to watch the new Inside Out 2 movie and decided it was worth it to go to the movie theaters. This was the first time I have been back inside a movie theater in YEARS. For a while there were no movies that intrigued me enough to go to a theater until now. I decided to go on a Tuesday because it was very hot outside for 1 and 2 it's considered the discount day :). It was only $7.75/person. From what I can see on my app, it cost $8.50/ticket and a $1.89/ticket fees when you purchase online. If you opt to get the Cinemark Movie Rewards (free btw), you can get each ticket for $7.75, but you still need to pay the $1.89 ticket fee unless you join the Movie Club Member (which you have to pay for). If you buy the tickets in person, you waive the ticket fees and it's only $7.75 each! If you can, I would definitely recommend you coming on a Tuesday to get the best deal. One thing I did not know about this theater was how it had recliner chairs. They were very comfy and larger so you had room to relax. The theater we were in seemed a little smaller than the other ones, but I could also tell this was a smaller theater compared to others that I have been to along the peninsula. I did not get any concession stand items because I had dinner prior. From what I could see, their stand is pretty standard and right in the front by the entrance. Due to the small size of the theater, it did not seem like it was very soundproof inside. During the movie, there was a kid yelling and crying outside the doors that was clearly noticeable to all the moviegoers in the room. Eventually it stopped, but just something to note. Overall, I'd come back again. It's was fairly clean and easy to get to. The staff member I did talk to when buying my tickets was friendly and welcoming. read more

Wish the seats reclined all the way back but other than that it was still comfortable, maybe helped prevent me from falling asleep . Nice clean theater and giant screen all the way to the ceiling. The theater itself is OK- it has the electric loungers and overall the place is kept up well, bathrooms and theaters are clean. I'm often disappointed by their line up of films though, especially since it's now the only Cinemark theater in Marin now (and I have a backlog of Movie Club passes to use up). Their offerings seem to lean heavily into kids films and horror films. Currently there are 3 kids films, 1 horror film and 2 theaters are allotted to a 2-part religious movie- that's a TV show or spin off of one? Really frustrating, since there are films out that I'd like to see. The now closed Cinemark Smith Ranch theater constantly ran great films, but between kids films and religious movies, this location really disappoints. read more

While Cinemark sends reminders about how they're cleaning and disinfecting as well as providing disinfectant wipes for seats, I found this to be untrue. At 3 p.m. Saturday every wipe container was empty, and when I asked a group of six employees gathering to talk about Cracker Barrel in another state they all looked at me as if I was bothering them. After 15 minutes I heard a man in a short sleeved printed shirt say they were out of disinfectant and to fill the containers with water when they put the wipes in. I'll be bringing my own from now on. They also didn't clean the theater between showings. read more

Comfortable seats. Nice and friendly staff. I was actually very impressed with how clean the theater was. My only complaint was that the 25-30 min of trailers before the movie was very excessive. Some people might like that but it makes me ready for bed so it made me very sleepy for the movie lol..I feel like if they said on the ticket the actual time of the movie I would have appreciated that haha otherwise very nice theater. read more

Infernal glare from the side ground lights. This is the best theatre in Marin, HOWEVER, there are those side ground lights that are reflected off the shiny floor all the way down the aisle. TOTALLY destroys the visual ambience of the movie because I can see those reflected lights through the side of my eyes. So very annoying. This is why I don't go to here anymore. What a waste of a really nice theatre otherwise. In the past I have resorted to putting napkins under the side arm of my glasses to create blinders which helped. So then I had this scratchy paper next to my eyes which often dislodged and required repositioning often. Ugh. Never coming back until I know they have fixed this issue. Even if there were no reflection the lights are waaaaayyyyy too bright. Perhaps put fewer. read more

We love coming to this theater since the kids were little - huge parking lot, not attached to a mall, and plenty of eateries nearby at Vintage Oaks shopping center. Moylan's Brewery & Restaurant is walking distance. I prefer Moylan's over HopMonk, but that's for another review. Ever since this theater upgraded to luxury loungers (wish the rest of Marin County would do the same), we find ourselves coming to this comfy theater more often. I dislike kids kicking my seats in the other movie theaters. Last night, we experienced a power outage towards the most exciting part of Avengers...towards the end. I sure wish the outage happened at the beginning of the movie. Avengers was a long azz movie, I'd hate to watch that whole thing again. Apparently, the blackout affected this patch of Novato. At first, when the screen shut off and backup lights came on, many of us continued sitting in these lounge chairs hoping the power would come back on. Staff kindly directed us towards the front to get our free movie passes. We were amazed at how many people were actually in this theater on a Tuesday night. Of course, there's always one person in the dark who has to ask "um, where are they giving out the passes?". Obviously, it's the line we're all standing in; we're not here to stretch out our legs. I'd be a horrible usher working in a theater LOL! Anyway, I just wanted management to know what a stellar job staff did on this particular night, and how calm they were. I know many teenagers work at such theaters after school, on the weekends, during the Summer, and long breaks. They don't get the credit they deserve. Kudos to such great kids for handling the situation with such care and safety. I'm sure Cinemark trains their staff well in unexpected situations. Although, the power outage was not their fault, they still provided free passes for any future movie. Customer service is their #1 priority. Keep up the great work! This is a great experience. If you are going to sit for 2 hours watching a movie, why not do it in comfort like home. The reserved seating is brilliant. I surprised my girlfriend as she had never seen this before. I'm now her movie hero. The Theatre is large with several movies to choose from. And the screens aren't tiny like some theatres. They offer a fully loaded snack bar, lobby seating, and game room. Check-in is always fast and I am always welcomed. In the theatre itself, I choose row 3 because I like the big screen adventure without being too close. One row is now like 2 rows and aisles. Room for the lounger to adjust to your preference. Totally comfortable. This theatre is awesome. When I am not here, I go to Smith Ranch, and also Corte Madera for big super films on the big screen. read more

I am sure this is the case over the whole industry but 36 minutes of the worst, mind numbing, moronic, repetitive ads prior to the film completely sours anything else about the experience. $11.75 for a senior ticket and I have to have this trash shoved down my throat. I should be paid to have to sit through that pain prior to the film I came to watch. I make a conscious point of NOT buying any of the goods or services advertised. Came here recently with a friend to see The Nun II, at around 5PM on a weekday. We found ourselves stricken by the luxurious seats! Roomy, and reclining. We had such a comfy time, we encouraged our larger friend group to make the drive from the east bay to Novato to see Haunting in Venice today at the 6:35pm showing. Same great experience. The staff here are so friendly and helpful - not the apathetic robot like attitude at other chain theaters. We live in Petaluma but prefer this one for several reasons: membership that gives you discounted tix and 20% off concessions, all theaters have big screens and big sound, they will bring your snacks to your seats if you order ahead, staff are helpful and make good suggestions, manager has addressed any issues professionally and pleasantly, seats are comfortable and reclining, place is always clean when we come, parking is never an issue. Last night when we tried to use the self serve butter topping machine (not currently operating), the manager noticed and brought a little container to our seats! She had actually searched the different theaters looking for us!That was so remarkable. My only negative is that hot snacks are prepackaged and not as appetizing as having them prepared as you order. I'm assuming this is likely due to staff shortages - evident in many service businesses today. read more

Parking is somewhat limited but there doesn't seem to be an issue with using the adjacent parking lots after hours. Century Rowland Plaza is a movie theatre I go to a lot. Most of the employees are really kind to me. The theater does not have the best selection of movies but a lot of the movies they have are great. Later in the day the popcorn gets a little old, it is better to go in the morning to watch a movie. You will get a better deal. One night I went with my family and friends to a private watch party and the movie was not playing but I was really happy that the manager figured out the situation and the gave us free popcorn and beverages!! Overall I would go to that theater then the movie theaters in San Francisco. It is too crowded in the city then in Novato. I go here all the time. read more

I've been here two or more times. Just went recently right before The COVID-19 epidemic got out of control. Let me tell you a story. The first time I went here I went with a beautiful Italian girl that I met at the Getlaidium (a nightclub in SF called the Palladium, but everyone called it by the nickname). She wrote her phone number down on a matchbook that they were passing out at the club. They had these little matchbox where you can write peoples phone numbers inside that they would hand out for free. I was so happy because she was so pretty... and rich! Rich is always a plus. lol Anyways, I picked her up at her house in Novato and I met her parents who were very nice. She suggested we go to the local movie theater. So we went there and we made out during the movie. She was a great kisser. I forget what movie it was. And then we went to the parking lot and made out more in my brown 1980 Toyota Corolla station wagon (with the rainbow colored Local Motion sticker on the back that I got in Hawaii). She said she was cold, unfortunately I had nothing to offer her to warm her up. She was looking around inside my car and said 'Oh I think I found something to wear, a sweatshirt.' I was thinking to myself... that's weird I don't remember having a sweatshirt in the car. So I took her back home and dropped her off. Time went on and we lost touch. I called her house a few times and her mom said she wasn't home. I was sad because she was so pretty and nice. So some time goes by and my car needed an oil change. I was looking in the back of my car and I thought to myself, 'Where the fuck did my oil rag go that I use for oil changes?' That's when I realized...oh shit, she must have put it on after the movie. Fuck. So that's why she never called me. So anyways, that's my Rowland Theater story. I remembered it the other day when my cousin and I went there to see Harley Quinn. 5 stars for the theater. I hope to go back soon after this Coronavirus stuff fades away. read more

i had such a great experience for half of my movie. staff at the front were great! same with the staff serving food. I would have given 5 stars for just that... But my experience has changed because when I left to use the restroom and came back into the theater I saw a man in a yellow vest (looked like a worker) jacking off. I am now disturbed and disgusted. After a 5 year hiatus from movie-going, I decided to go this afternoon. In the past I always went to Century Northgate One in Terra Linda because it's closer for me, but after looking at showtimes online I noticed Rowland Plaza has leather reclining seats. This was news to me and I couldn't say no, I had to experience this! To no surprise at all, I was SO COMFORTABLE the entire movie. Granted this was my first experience outside of a traditional theater chair, but I was beyond satisfied. Wide rows and plenty of elbow room. 5 stars are given not just for the seat upgrades, but for the overall business operation. Everything was clean - from the bathrooms to theater floors - and every employee I spoke to was warm and helpful. Overall a great experience! read more

Much better than the northgate mall theaters, and better than driving to petaluma. I read the previous reviews and wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The screen size and sound system was great. and the crowd was very pleasant too - not like the petaluma theater which was crawling with high schoolers. The drinks and popcorn may be on the smaller side, but the movie experience on the whole was good. I'm definitely watching my movies here from now on. read more

The only thing that takes away from this theater is the lack of stadium seating. Otherwise it's my neighborhood theater with all the great movie showing at terrific times and it gets all the first runs. The staff is nice too and always willing to help. I do think it needs a do over but I'm worried that that would shut it down for a while and I like the idea of having a theater so close to home. I can't complain about the food prices because I don't buy the food there. Matinee prices are great however, and you can get the matinee price up until 5 o'clock. A major renovation would be great for Novato and for this theater. read more

Been going to Rowland for years. Service is consistent. Usually fairly clean. Because it's in Novato, it's generally quieter than Northgate. I like the seats better here than Northgate. I generally like going to the first showings because you get a lower price than the matinee price. read more
