The teachers at the Mathnasium in North Bethesda were excellent and my daughter enjoyed working with them. They are also incredibly accomodating and helpful. While my daughter was attending, she was preparing for a final exam in her Algebra 1 class. She just had a couple of questions but not enough time to go to a full session. We dropped in and the teacher was more than happy to help her with her questions. Not only that, but she printed out several sheets for her - giving her explanation of the topic she could take home with her and a couple of extra practice problems for her to work on. Impressive! One of the best things about this Mathnasium is there is no scheduled time for your appoitment. I can drop in with my daughter for a session as long as they are open. This kind of flexibility is very helpful when you have the hectic, ever-changing schedule of teenagers. We never felt as if the sessions were too crowded or my daughter could not get the help she needed. They are very good about the teacher-student ratio and it was well staffed whenever we attended. I would highly recommend this Mathnasium for kids in the North Bethesda area. It is a great environment and the teachers are outstanding.

All the teachers are amazing not just in instruction but they are truly kind and loving to the kids. The community of families that attend there become like family. The principal, Mr. Andy, is super personable and my kids love him. My older 3 still like to come visit their teachers at Epworth and are still top 3 on their favorite teacher list. Shout out to Mrs. Carroll, and Mrs. Shelley. This is our last year at Epworth as my last one is finishing up Trans K with Mrs. David. We will miss Epworth. The inclusive, respectful, and inviting environment cultivated by the teachers, students, and parents makes Julia Brown a fantastic community for any child to be a part of. On my child's first day back to school this week, she started in a new classroom with a new lead teacher. She shared with me, unprompted, that the teacher sat with her at the table on a small chair during lunch and ate alongside her. My child went into detail about how the teacher used sauce with her food, and she was also excited to share that her teacher taught her a new song to get ready to line up and was genuinely kind. The fact that a grown person sat on a toddler-sized chair to cultivate community is a big deal in itself, but to sit, eat, have a real conversation, and model respect and kindness goes above and beyond. From the Director of the school, Ms. Jones, to the Directress (shoutout to Ms. Espinal) and the many wonderful teachers who make up the faculty, I am so impressed. I am truly grateful for how much my child has grown, learned, and been cared for here. Whenever my husband or I have had a question, the faculty team has always been incredibly responsive. Ms. Jones's leadership has been fantastic, and I am so excited for my child to continue her journey this school year!

I wanted to share my experience with Julia Brown School regarding my daughter's time there…read more Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing and left us feeling that the environment was not supportive of helping children adjust and thrive. When my daughter was placed in a new classroom, she had been there for less than a full day before we began receiving calls asking us to pick her up because she was "not listening to instructions." As any parent knows, transitions to a new classroom can be challenging for young children. It typically takes time for them to feel comfortable with new teachers, classmates, and expectations. Instead of allowing her a reasonable adjustment period or working with us on strategies to help her settle in, the school seemed irritated by the situation and quick to remove her from the classroom. We were hoping the staff would demonstrate patience, professionalism, and a child-centered approach--giving her at least a week or two to adapt to the new environment. Unfortunately, that level of support and understanding was not demonstrated. Repeated calls to pick her up after such a short time in the classroom made it feel like the priority was convenience rather than helping a child succeed. Every child deserves educators who are willing to guide them through transitions with patience and care. We had hoped for a more supportive and professional approach from the school in ensuring that our child had the opportunity to adjust and thrive.

Beware of taking this or any course that attempts to group a disparate group of SAT learners in the…read moresame room without taking into consideration their varying levels of competence. My daughter found the course to move too fast on some areas that she had difficulty and too slow in others where she found she was wasting her time. The math teacher was not a native English speaker, and she found him to be very difficult to follow. He also lacked charisma for engaging kids on what are quite dry topics to begin with. Absolutely zero one on one time at this school. Also, there was no feedback or diagnostics from the teachers regarding tests. That is to say the course did not react to problem areas on practice tests, specifically targeting my daughter in the areas that she needed. It was basically a general study program for all, regardless of your score or weaker areas. Most definitely not worth the money. If you are already going to pay that amount, better to get a focused tutor to help on your pitfalls.
