In those 10 years, that went way too fast, there was never a day after dropping him off that I worried about his well-being, safety, education, social interactions, Christian development, or overall happiness. The very reasonable tuition was money well spent. Would that these reviews had no word limits. I would go into depth about our experiences in each grade. Everything begins with a stellar staff. From my very first interaction with the pre-k teacher and aide on my son's very first day of school ever, I was put at ease. From day one all the way through 8th grade graduation, I felt blessed to have found this gem. When we were there they offered hot lunch every day, before and after care, field trips, summer camp, CYO Athletics, a super fabulous science curriculum, and weekly Mass. With hindsight now I can see that St. Ambrose prepared my son for the rigors of high school with its looming academic and social challenges. St. Ambrose helped my son become a better student and a young man who lives by the Gospels but never too preachy. He made lifelong friends and had soooo much fun while learning. St. Ambrose, pray for us indeed.

We got a weekly email about what the class was doing. Beyond academics, I am impressed by my child's social and spiritual growth. The teachers model respect and celebrate diversity. Families are welcome to share their traditions and culture, such as Hanukkah and Lunar New Year. Many faculty members are parents of current students and/or alumni, so they care deeply about the school and it shows. The small community builds a priceless sense of safety and trust. My 4-year-old knew middle schoolers by name, and they were always kind role models to the little ones. Many parents are neighbors, so I knew someone would have my back if I had a drop-off or pick up emergency, or forgot show-and-tell day! The admin is hardworking, resourceful, and receptive to parent feedback. Our family is blessed to have St. Ambrose as our church and school.

There is currently a new director who I did not experience at all as my children were already enrolled somewhere else. Like a number of childcare facilities there has been quite a few teachers who have come and gone. However, I know there are still quality teachers there. Ms. Simret, Ms. Judy, Ms. Toni, Ms. Genie, and Ms. Vanessa, are all teachers I've had personal experience with and hope Greenwood is doing all they can to keep them there. There was a recent merger with Sunny Days, so hopefully this helps with teacher stability as well. I know Sunny days had teachers who had been with the facility for quite some time. My children learned and thrived while they were here and still talk about Greenwood. Overall, I think it's a great facility with the chance to be greater. Federal employees have preference here with general community members without a child currently enrolled there being last in order preference. Our child is also in Room 4 (Ms. R's class), same as the previous reviewer, and we've never had a problem with her not greeting us in the morning or witnessed her on the phone. All of the instructors in that classroom greet us in the mornings during drop off and in the afternoons during pick-up. They also fill us in on any particulars about our child from that day or the day before. They always seem happy and positive (even when it looks like they've had a long day). One of our favorite things about the school is its diversity. My child's classroom is extremely diverse, and it's one of the main reasons that we picked this school. We were unaware of Laurie's pending retirement until reading the previous review, so thanks, person, for spilling the beans on this very public platform. We have had a generally positive experience here. Teachers have always been kind and my daughter enjoys going to school every day. There is an app they use that shares with families what their student has done during the day such as what they ate, when they napped, activities, potty, etc... My daughter will be starting PreK 3 very prepared and we are so grateful for the staff at KU Kids Deanwood.

We've believed since the start that the faculty really loved our daughter and always treated her with care. After the first few shy days and a few tears, she always entered the classroom with a smile and left with the same. Additionally, the community around the school has been lovely. Mothers and fathers alike are open and receptive to new friendships, and create a great, warm, diverse community. Two Rivers, is a smaller than usual middle school that services a very diverse student population. The fact that they are smaller is a great benefit to the child as a whole. The teachers are very in tune with what's going on with each child there. They work in a "family-like" environment where the old adage of "it takes a village to raise a child" holds truth. The staff seemed very much in sync and appeared to be glad to be working there unlike other schools I have visited before. The building itself lends itself to be inviting and comfortable. From the types of desks they use to the color of the wall, this entire building stimulates you to want to learn. The walls are painted with a very warm blue so soothing and calming. each classroom has a teacher and a teacher helper which makes the student-to-teacher ratio very small. I took a tour and was impressed by the aesthetics such as the partial glass walls! But overall, everyone was very inviting and nice as I walked through the halls with my friend giving me a tour. From what my friend tells me everyone works very hard to get to know each child at a personal level and everyone is concerned about the child's well being. I would recommend parents who are looking for schools in the area to visit and maybe ask for a small guided tour to see the building. As someone who works in a middle school with about 1,100 students, I believe smaller settings are crucial especially at the middle school level and if you are looking for that then you need to go check out Two Rivers.

Two Rivers PCS, My…read morechild's first and last year. One would've thought after the new principal came onboard it would've got better, it got worse. First, Two Rivers starts at 8:15, and after 8:30 a student is considered late. You get15-minutes grace, but you'll sit on Benning Road for an half-hour just trying to get through the very busy, high- construction, congested intersection where all the schools in the area start at the same time. Two Rivers staff could do a better job with either starting school earlier, or having their staff to stand on 4th Street that will aid in a smoother traffic flow. There's one way in and one way out, and in the event of an emergency, time would definitely be a factor of life or death. Second, Ms. Chelsea, the new principal. Where do I begin? She has never formally introduced herself to the school-body. She's rarely at the school on-time, never accountable or available. She has failed many parents and is a disservice to the school. She's new to being a principal and it's more than evident that she was hired off familiarity. She probably was great in her other position at Two Rivers, but that's certainly not the case at Young. Maybe because she had two small children who knows, but she's way above her head in this position and the Two Rivers Community will suffer, because she'll never have enough integrity to own the fact that it's too much. Instead the school/students will fail. Third, the schools report card system. It's very subjective and holds no merit to the student or what's needed to excel with the standards of area public charter schools. It's evident that something is wrong, check out Two Rivers Report Card. No real preparation towards achieving in Science, Math, and Reading. What the teachers don't undertake, when their students fail, so do they! Fourth, the school is very racist! The schools grading system is in a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the highest. Very rare do children of color ever score 4-5s while for children of other races it's a norm. During showcases, the African-American children receive small parts while other children receive larger. Fifth, the school use Wednesday's for teacher-development days. It not only causes a very expensive after-school bill for parents. The teachers have not used the time wisely to improve themselves or students to become academic achievers. Basically, Wednesday's has become just another day and nothing has changed! In Two Rivers you'll get diversity, but that's it! Send your child(ren) to a school that'll challenge them academically and learning is fun. A school that'll challenge them to want to know/learn more because it's that exciting. A principal who will always go above and beyond to service the students, parents, and staff. A principal that is dedicated and accountable. All parents wants what is best for their children and their schools should mirror that! The same as parents should enjoy all of the comforts of being home, they should have this the same hidden nugget of cultural treasure within their school.

I love this place for being my chrysalis at a time when D.C. was the murder capital of the world and my life and my academic advancement felt so precarious. Carroll saved me by providing loving guidance in my journey to walk with God and academically over preparing me for college and law school. Generations of my family have graced the halls at great financial sacrifice for our working class parents and grandparents. I found God and myself at Carroll. I made lifelong friends and fantastic memories that lift me up when I feel down. I still get goosebumps when I walk onto that football field just like I did when I strapped up that gold helmet in high school. I owe Carroll much more than I could ever hope to repay. Carroll students reflect the light of Jesus Christ in all of their undertakings. Founded in 1951, Carroll was one of the first racially integrated schools in D.C. to defy the de facto racial segregation that was the law of the land in those pre Brown v. Board days in America. Today the school has a special calling to engage its students on issues of social justice, economic justice, racial equality, gender equality, and religious freedom. Make no mistake about it, Carroll is a college preparatory high school where academic rigor, love for man and womankind, and love of God through good works is at the center of the community. Academically, 99% of the graduates go on to matriculate at top level colleges and universities all while being awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in merit based scholarships and financial aid. Carroll is one of only a handful of schools in this area offering the International Baccalaureate program. The true Carroll compact is that working class families and families with limit means can be assured that if they make the financial sacrifice to send their student here they will go on to college and be prepared for that endeavor.
