My son is also in the after care program which runs till 6pm and every day I see teachers who have worked a long full day still at school working on new lessons and projects for the students! To see my son have teachers who care so much about him and work hard to make him the best student he can be makes me so proud of my son and this school. Once word gets out on this school it will become very hard for new students to attend. Yes the school is that good.

I have a really…read moregood experience with faulty and students here, but overall, the school environment is not Christian friendly. 1.this is mostly a sports school. So if your child is an academic kid, don't sent them here because they favorite athletes, bring there grades up, etc. and even then they don't paid for their track field. 2.they do fundraisers, but only for their selves. Not for other churches, homeless people, etc. as Christian's we should donate to our neighbors and care for others. We even have to pay for our own parties, food, etc. all this money and they can't even paid for us. 3. Most teachers teaching was slow because most students would act up and hold our education hostage. And some teachers only give us assignments once a week and nothing else. Even high school, I was in eighth grade, but felt like I learned more than the ninth graders when I was in 7th grade. Because even their work looked very ez. 4. Clubs: they don't have that much to offer for again, academic kids 5. Rules: they have stupid rules like not having your phone in your pocket. Like that just wild. Or other rules like can't wear a RIVERDALE jacket in school. It ruins the point of having it. 6.lunch: now the lunch is good, but fast food everyday is not good, especially for a mostly sports school. Overall, I like the community, but I don't like the system.

We cancelled 60 days prior to our youngest started school in September, but lost two months worth of tuition deposit, which was $1,540. We explained our situation to the director, Damita Robinson, that we had to cancel due to our PCS to a different state, but she gave zero refund simply saying that she cannot deviate from the contract. They do not have a prorated refund policy. If you cancel after a certain date, you will lose all of your deposit. In my honest opinion, the school's cancellation policy is unjust and unethical. Why did I have to lose all of $1,540 for no school attended? It disheartens me to only give 3 stars to a school that our three kids loved so much.

When we toured the school everything looked to be in order the principal Mrs. Scott was very pleasant and had really updated the school over the last few years. The school was organized which my sons other school lacked. The beginning of school was great, orientation new parents learned all the rules of the school and the kids got a chance to meet their teacher and classmates. The week before school started at a meeting with the parents and teachers we found out that the kindergarten class had 28 kids in the class, mouths dropped and you heard a big gasp in the classroom. After the announcement parents started to look around and talk in smaller groups about how we are paying for a private school why are the classes so large. We were told that the classroom can hold up to 30 kids and if 2 more enrolled they would accept them at any time during the school year. This should have been my first red flag clue and I should have run for the hills with my refund check in my back pocket. The class size was so large they had to convert the library into the kindergarten room in order to accommodate everyone. The kindergarten class had 2 teachers in the room so should I say 1 main teacher and 1 aid. The first couple weeks of school went pretty smoothly my son was happy and during well, after those 2 weeks passed that was it his mood had changed. I begin getting phone calls on a daily basis from him teacher saying that he wasn't paying attention and making strange noises in class. This wasn't my kid they were talking about, he had been to school prior and they only thing he would get a note home for is talking to much (he's a chatty boy). The phone calls went on like this for days finally I met with the teacher and the lady really got under my skin saying that maybe there are problems at home that are causing him to behave this way and maybe you should have him speak with a professional. As a parent who has raised your child for 5 1/2 years with no prior problems like this you start to get a little red in the face and want to go on attack mode. I calmly told her thank you for suggestions I'll talk with my son. After a long conversation he told me he was disrupting the class because that was the only way to get the teachers attention. He never got called on to answer questions or write on the smart board for 56 days (the class did calendar every morning so they knew how many days they had been in school). It broke my heart to know that everyday a question was called on and his had would be up he was being picked over. This is a private school with 28 5-6 year olds, after looking at the other classes and talking with the parents it seemed that the class sizes were growing in every classroom and parents were frustrated. Besides the class size the curriculum was sub-par, my son was bringing home work he had done when he was 3 in pre-school. Oh the principal Mrs. Scott was a reputation of dodging parents and avoiding any questions. It's amazing what you find out after you get in the school, just because the wrapping on the outside is pretty doesn't mean the pieces inside aren't broken. I pulled my son from St. John the end of November and moved him into a wonderful Christian school where he has 13 kids in the class and his behavior changed over night. St. John was not a good fit for my family so good luck to you if you sign your child up. Also please ignore your child's teacher when they say he or she may be ADHD, I've been told multiple times those initials get thrown around a lot when a child "acts out" in class.

Our daughter went from an A student to a C student. My wife sat in the class for 10 minutes and could not believe how disrespectful the students were to the teacher. The teacher had no control and the learning environment was bad. The Principal did nothing. We pulled our daughter out and enrolled her in to St John's. The staff is great and we are very happy with the school. Down side is the 500.00 monthly payment. You get what you pay for.

The inclusive, respectful, and inviting environment cultivated by the teachers, students, and parents makes Julia Brown a fantastic community for any child to be a part of. On my child's first day back to school this week, she started in a new classroom with a new lead teacher. She shared with me, unprompted, that the teacher sat with her at the table on a small chair during lunch and ate alongside her. My child went into detail about how the teacher used sauce with her food, and she was also excited to share that her teacher taught her a new song to get ready to line up and was genuinely kind. The fact that a grown person sat on a toddler-sized chair to cultivate community is a big deal in itself, but to sit, eat, have a real conversation, and model respect and kindness goes above and beyond. From the Director of the school, Ms. Jones, to the Directress (shoutout to Ms. Espinal) and the many wonderful teachers who make up the faculty, I am so impressed. I am truly grateful for how much my child has grown, learned, and been cared for here. Whenever my husband or I have had a question, the faculty team has always been incredibly responsive. Ms. Jones's leadership has been fantastic, and I am so excited for my child to continue her journey this school year!

When my daughter was placed in a new classroom, she had been there for less than a full day before we began receiving calls asking us to pick her up because she was "not listening to instructions." As any parent knows, transitions to a new classroom can be challenging for young children. It typically takes time for them to feel comfortable with new teachers, classmates, and expectations. Instead of allowing her a reasonable adjustment period or working with us on strategies to help her settle in, the school seemed irritated by the situation and quick to remove her from the classroom. We were hoping the staff would demonstrate patience, professionalism, and a child-centered approach--giving her at least a week or two to adapt to the new environment. Unfortunately, that level of support and understanding was not demonstrated. Repeated calls to pick her up after such a short time in the classroom made it feel like the priority was convenience rather than helping a child succeed. Every child deserves educators who are willing to guide them through transitions with patience and care. We had hoped for a more supportive and professional approach from the school in ensuring that our child had the opportunity to adjust and thrive.

In those 10 years, that went way too fast, there was never a day after dropping him off that I worried about his well-being, safety, education, social interactions, Christian development, or overall happiness. The very reasonable tuition was money well spent. Would that these reviews had no word limits. I would go into depth about our experiences in each grade. Everything begins with a stellar staff. From my very first interaction with the pre-k teacher and aide on my son's very first day of school ever, I was put at ease. From day one all the way through 8th grade graduation, I felt blessed to have found this gem. When we were there they offered hot lunch every day, before and after care, field trips, summer camp, CYO Athletics, a super fabulous science curriculum, and weekly Mass. With hindsight now I can see that St. Ambrose prepared my son for the rigors of high school with its looming academic and social challenges. St. Ambrose helped my son become a better student and a young man who lives by the Gospels but never too preachy. He made lifelong friends and had soooo much fun while learning. From other parents, I've heard their Norwood graduates were more than prepared for 9th grade--even at some of the more rigorous independent schools in DC. My child entered Norwood in 4th grade, so cannot speak to the lower school experience (and 4th was during Covid), but the upper school experience has been solid. My child loves and appreciates all her teachers--which is a testament to their kindness and real desire to educate young people.
