I can only comment on what I saw from a tour, so please know that I have not sent my child here. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a very friendly woman, and I had a nice time talking to her about the school and the curriculum. We started the tour downstairs, and I witnessed the 3 year olds at story time. The teacher reading the book seemed very sweet, happy and energetic. So far I liked what I was seeing! However, when I toured the upstairs, things really took a turn for me. My son would be entering preschool and would be in one of the upstairs classrooms. I have to mention that I visited on the last day of school, so maybe I was seeing the product of a long year and children anxious for summer vacation, but I noticed that the classrooms were absolutely filthy. A few of the classrooms still had children in them, and it didn't seem like the teachers had control of the room or children. Kids were running around everywhere. One teacher was trying to put sunblock on the kids so they could go out to play, and the kids were wildly running around (and she didn't appear to even try to get control of it). I also saw that they had older kids from other schools there in after school care, in the same class rooms as the little ones. I really wasn't comfortable with this. Based on other reviews about cleanliness and lice breakouts, I don't have much faith that what I saw was a fluke. I also asked around, and this is a message from one woman who responded to my inquiry online: "Hi - wanted to give you a bit of feedback on Chesterbrook. I toured it 2 years ago and was alarmed to find I could just walk in front door (the security lock was not working). I'm sure they've since fixed it. When we got to the playground, there was a child misbehaving (being dangerous) and the teachers were doing nothing. The Director, who was giving me a tour, had to correct his behavior. I have 2 friends who have had similar experiences. Ask them what they do if Rachel Carson goes into lockdown and see if they have a good answer! Hopefully by now they do. We ended up at Georgetown Hill as did one of the other families. We were overall pretty happy. The other family went to Goddard and were happy as well. Let me know if other questions. Good luck!" My LO has now been going here for about 5 months. Although I have nothing to compare CBA against, I can say that my LO loves her teachers and is learning a lot at the school. Like one other reviewer mentioned, there are some grammatical errors on the daily report my LO brings home, english is not the native language of 2 of the teachers in the class, but neither is it mine, so who am I to judge. But the teachers treat my LO with love, kindness and respect and thats enough for me. I still havent given them 4 stars because the last time I was there, I noticed that the teachers didnt change gloves between changing diapers of the kids. Granted they were not soiled diapers, but considering that the class had 2 episodes of Hand Foot and Mouth disease, they should be changing gloves between each change or wash hands after each change. The open restrooms are kind of smelly by evening coz I am thinking a lot of kids miss their aims !! As for the weekly menu I mentioned earlier, they now write each day's menu on white board at the reception (which may be different from the weekly one published earlier). But it is an improvement. The staff is friendly and I like I said what matters the most is that enough attention is paid to the kids and that I see here. read more

Chesterbrook Academy is an absolute abomination. To start, the amount of internal turnover within this "school" is extremely alarming. It seems as if there are new "teachers" coming in and out on a weekly basis. I've also seen various "teachers" smoking cigarettes on the property during normal hours. My daughter has come home crying because of the way "teachers" have spoken to her on numerous occasions. After bringing this to the attention of the "principal", it happened again and nothing changed The "school" is absolutely filthy, and it's no surprise that there has been a staggering amount of lice outbreaks within the last year. The toys and other classroom items are all old, outdated and appear to be hand-me-downs. While they boast to prepare your children for kindergarten, this "school" is really just a poorly ran day care. The curriculum is not approved by the state of Maryland. If you're looking for a great place to nurture you child's early development, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. This "school" has nothing to offer other than a place to drop your kids off and get poor child care at best. read more

Chesterbrook Academy Preschool in Gaithersburg has been an excellent experience for our family. From day one our son has felt right at home. Because of the friendly and supportive atmosphere, he immediately bonded with his teachers and made several good friends. He also looked forward to going to pre-school each day. Chesterbrook has a well-defined curriculum. They are organized and provide a clean environment in which to learn. I was actually surprised by some of the negative reviews I've read. We can only speak to our experience. Any time we had a concern, we brought it to the school's attention and it was resolved quickly by the administrative staff and teachers. They have always made themselves available, even after school hours. They are quick to act and have effectively addressed any and all situations presented to them. The priority is always child first. This is an exciting time for us as our son starts kindergarten this fall. We know that our son is better prepared for the approaching year as a result of being at Chesterbrook. We have many wonderful memories of our time here and will truly miss our Chesterbrook family. It's probably obvious from this write-up that we highly recommend Chesterbrook in Gaithersburg as a place where preschool is fun, well organized, and a great learning experience!!! read more

I am giving this school two stars for the only two positive things it provides: 1) cheaper than other local daycares 2) Ms. Deb that teaches the oldest group is a fabulous teacher. Update: 3/2015- My older son is now in the 6-pre class with Ms. Deb - again, so impressed with the teacher and the assistants. My son loves school and I'm constantly impressed with the activities and projects. My 5 yr old can count to 100, count to 100 by 5's and 10's and his handwriting has drastically improved. My younger son is now in Mrs. Marlene's class - she and the assistant teachers are amazing, love them all! 2014 - My 4 year old ('C') is in the 5-pre class..Mrs. Marlene is wonderful! All of the kids love her and she is constantly including my younger son into activities when we come for pick-up. I'm continually impressed but the content that is covered and the numerous art projects that C brings home. Will recommend to others and plan to send my two younger children as well. read more

Our daughter has been very happy here, the teachers are caring and management has been very responsive to any questions or requests. Fees are also on the affordable side compared to other daycare centers. Rooms are spacious and the daily curriculum has been great, she's brought home more artwork than we can store! Chesterbrook has been a great environment for my growing children. The teachers at this school are wonderful! Ms. Telma, Ms. Moumita, Ms. Flor, and Ms. Leytise are all great at what they do! I can truly say that I trust them completely with my children. Both of my boys enjoy going to school and that's a great sign! All the staff here are extremely friendly and helpful. My daughter has attended this preschool for 9 months and so far we have loved our experience. All of the staff and teachers are so kind, accommodating, and really take the time to get to know my child. I felt that the teachers really love what they do, and that message is conveyed to the kids. My daughter had a tough time at the beginning but everyone helped ease the transition and now she is excited every morning for school. I think the lunch menu seems healthier than a lot of the other facilities. I loved getting pictures daily of my daughter. The teachers were also we very helpful with toilet training. There are several family fun events in the evenings through out the year. Overall we have had a great experience here, I really don't think I can find a negative thing to say about CBA. We will unfortunately have to take my daughter out of the school due to a move, but I wish we didn't have to, we will really miss everyone. I highly recommend this preschool. read more

I had my daughter in this preschool for a month and when I really saw what it was like, I pulled her out. Let me begin by saying, it is not a preschool, it is more a daycare. Yes they say they have a curriculum and they even post lesson plans in their rooms but when I really looked at it and compared it to the dittos that she was bringing home, I realized it was not a curriculum at all! And to top it off there were multiple spelling errors on the lesson plans, I dont want my daughter being taught by someone who cant spell! Multiple times when I came in to pick her up in the evening and tried to converse with the teacher, she was in the corner on her cell phone so I didnt even bother. The place is messy, children go to the bathroom without doors by themselves and the woman I spoke to at the front office had no idea as to what was happening. I advise you to strongly reconsider putting your children in here if you want quality education! read more
