While the venue appears a bit older, if does seem to be well maintained overall. They also have a good size weights/fitness area, something I haven't seen, or better, than in the few other Chula Vista rec centers I've been to.

I think at the time, 2003 or so, I was a sophomore and I was catching up on those community service hours (on top of it, I know). I remember I had to do a lot of trash pick up and cleaning up graffiti. Aside from that, in these last couple of years, I frequent the recreation center to play basketball (indoor). Their basket ball gym is so cool! First of all, its air conditioned. Second, they always music playing. And, finally, they have a total of 6 hoops. Two main ones and two on each side. However, sometimes they might have only a few down. It just depends. There's definitely regulars here who come in the afternoon to play five on five. Te best times to come are usually the first three hours after its opened. Its dead during the first couple of hours. Honestly, I love this place to shoot around, practice, relax and get away for a bit from everything. The following information below derives entirely and directly from the Chula Vista web site under recreation services. Built in 2000, the Otay Recreation Center includes a gymnasium, game room, patio, and a fitness center. The programs offered at the Otay Recreation Center accommodates a wide array of participants, ranging from toddlers to youth to senior citizens. The center contains a wide-spectrum of activities as well. The fitness center, which requires a membership, contains a variety of state-of-the-art equipment, including cardio machines, free weights, and weight lifting machines. The game room is open during our normal hours of operation for drop in play and consists of pool tables, foosball tables, a ping-pong table, and more. The gymnasium is available for open recreational play each night, for more information on the schedule, please calls the center or click on the link above. The Otay Recreation Center also offers a wide variety of recreational classes. These classes consist of many preschool classes, Ready, Set, Learn, Bumble Bee Sports, Apples to Zebras, Ballet, and more. Other classes offered at the center include, ballet, zumba and belly dancing. The gymnasium, game room, classroom, and patio are available for rentals. What a mass of beautiful greenery. Any outdoor sport you want to practice, this is the park to do…read moreso. Community Parks create memories for birthdays, holding hands, kickball, learning to ride the bike and sometimes relaxing under the sun. By the way this is a good park to learn to roller skate. Montgomery Waller is surrounded by homes, near schools, the community library, senior housing and actual vibrant neighborhoods. It is quite a beautiful layout of this park. From a couple of baseball fields, full on outdoor basketball courts, paved walkways and walking trails, and play areas. It's a lot of land. If you can't social distance here, then there's a problema. As you walk the unmarked course around the park you may see cheerleaders practicing, litte league baseball, Pop Warner football, AYSO soccer, father's pushing baby carriages, celebration of birthdays and dog walkers. I really enjoy how this park is elderly friendly and safe. The paved walkways is very clean and flat and no cracks, crevices or unleveled ground. There are several manageable inclines and declines. If I was too start a walking or running club I would train at this park. In fact, I see groups doing yoga, tai-chi and cartwheels. It's biiiig. There are two areas of play structures that will likely become boring after a couple of times because expansion needs to happen. The rec center where classes are offered is atop the hill and classes are usually free. I saw Zumba having a blast. Also, there are dog poop bag boxes which offer free bags. Don't let your dog poop on the paved clean walkway. The cons to this park are a few: Limited toilets. I saw one outhouse, and two single toilets in this big park. I guess because this neighborhood is 90% diverse, perhaps they don't use toilets. I guess. Cause this is ignorant for this space to not have real toilets around the entire Park area. The other con, is the walkway should be marked with mileage markers. Parking is available in the lots or around the park. I come here once a week and enjoy it a lot. It is mostly an unshaded park from morning to evening. It's not impossible to find shade but it is a task. Bring your umbrella and/or canopy. You will thank me later. Absolutely, I would recommend this park if you are near the area. Would I make a special trip? Ummm, probably because it is a best kept secret; many people don't know it exists. If you're a trainer or have an exercise class or meet up outdoor meditation, this is a perfect place to do it.

I started going because my friend loves it and her brother is part of the band. I remember when we were younger, seeing her brother play guitar and sing. It's very cool to see him perform on a church stage now. Personal ties aside, let's talk aesthetics. I know that's not the most important thing, but it's part of what drew me in after the kind of churches I remember as a kid. My first impression was the coffee bar. It's a really nice touch. The second thing that hit me was the size. The building is in an industrial area and has a sort of brewery feel to it, and I love that. It's bright and airy and very open. The third thing I loved was the bathrooms. In my youth, it was a three stall bathroom with very limited space and air. These bathrooms are massive- tons of stalls, sinks, mirrors. They smell clean and you can still hear the sermon and music through the extra speakers in there so you don't miss anything. The decor. Simple and minimalist but a nice, classy touch. Oh and plenty of parking (always a plus) and easy to get to. On to more important things. I've now participated in an online/Zoom group (my first Restoration event where I got to virtually meet a few members.) I did a wine/succulent ladies night on a Friday evening. I attended a midweek "relationship round table" event (where refreshments were provided even though it was a free event!) I've watched a few sermons online. And finally on Easter, I attended my first in-person service. (I call them sermons but they have a better term for it that doesn't sound as stuffy. Can't recall what it is.) What's great is that I got to attend all these other no-pressure events and get to meet people, feel the vibe, and check out the space before I ever attended a Sunday service. I immediately felt drawn to Restoration and comfortable. I even got my boyfriend to go with me on Easter. We've been dating since 2016 and have never gone to a church service together until last week. The fact that he was willing to come along and enjoyed himself spoke volumes. Pastors Kate and Kurt remembered me despite having only briefly met me at one or two of the events I attended. They are very engaging and talk about things in a way that gets me to see things in a new light. It's not nearly as restrictive and boring as I recall church being as a kid. (I attended Catholic Churches where my one grandma gave me candy to keep me awake. Armenian churches with my other grandma where I'd hide in the bathroom because I didn't have any friends and didn't know the language. Lutheran churches that I found dull and repetitive. And some other one where people spoke in tongues. I've been around lol) I was baptized catholic, confirmed Lutheran, and have never really found a church I fell in love with until now. My friend said she sometimes isn't able to get down there because, life. I was going to only go when she goes but I find myself feeling inspired to go in person on my own. I don't have kids but find it pretty nice that they have ALL sorts of kid groups and activities to keep kids engaged while the service is going on. (Really wish I had that kind of experience growing up, to engage me in Gods word, rather than being bated with candy and doughnuts.) I'm not big into music at churches but I found myself enjoying most of what I heard. There's no pressure to sing along (thank God) so I don't feel awkward standing there, just enjoying the music- not singing, not swaying. I literally just stand there. But because of the concert feel it has with the dimmed lights, I don't have to worry about sticking out like a sore thumb. I didn't have to raise my hand to let everyone know I'm new. They have options for people who ARE new to connect in a relaxed environment. Communion is also done in that manner, so I don't feel any pressure to partake if I'm not ready (they have a separate area to go up and take communion if/when you're ready during any point in the service.) And offering isn't a plate passed around while people stare at you, waiting to drop money in (that's how it was when I was young.) They have multiple options to give back and none of them put you on the spot. There's seriously so many things I've loved already and that's after only a few in person events and ONE service. I know it won't be for everyone and many people still love a lot of traditional aspects of other churches. But Restoration got me (and my bf!) to come in after not having gone to a church since 2007. I'd say that's pretty spectacular.
